Chapter 1356: Winged
"Shit!" Rain roared and then kicked the floor.
The enemies found them out a lot sooner than Rain had expected… the relic seemed to be fine; it hadn't been corrupted by the enemies' powers or a giant monster, but it wasn't completely unprotected.
Rain wondered for a moment if the enemies teleported the relic to somewhere else or if it had an automatic spell cast thanks to his approach… either way, he had no idea where he would find it now.
While Rain was considering his next move, only a couple of seconds had passed… but soon he felt another powerful presence arriving in the world. At the same time, he felt countless impacts happening on the surface of the planet. Without hesitation, Rain teleported to the surface and then saw the enemy…
The enemy that Rain encountered was a towering humanoid creature, standing at an impressive height of five meters. Unlike the typical first dragons that Rain had encountered before, this creature did not exhibit any deformities on its body. Instead, it possessed a sleek and slender physique that exuded a sense of power and grace.
The creature's most striking features were its long black hair cascading down its back and a pair of massive dark wings sprouting from its shoulders. These wings, with their imposing span and ominous aura, hinted at the creature's formidable abilities and supernatural nature.
Despite its imposing stature, the creature's gender was indiscernible, as its features lacked any distinct male or female characteristics. However, its body pulsed with an unmistakable aura of power, emanating a vivid blue glow that surrounded it, further enhancing its imposing presence on the battlefield.
"By the orders of my master, all of you will be exterminated here," The winged creature said and then moved its arms to the sides.
In the next moment, the hands of the creature began to glow, and at the same time, countless people were pierced by bolts of light on the ground… it looked like the projectiles just appeared inside of them… Rain opened his eyes widely… it was an instantaneous attack… but considering the shape of the projectiles and the arrival of that creature when the crossbow disappeared… it couldn't be a coincidence.
Rain teleported to the back of the enemy and then swung down the ominous sword, but the enemy flew away after turning into a beam of light and then reappeared while looking at Rain and bombarding his body with countless light bolts as well… Rain felt his skin burning and being erased with each strike, but at least he was resisting.
"You must be the leader of the invaders. My master warned me of you," The creature said while still attacking Rain.
"Wrong, I am just a lowly minion," Rain said. "Take this: Hoe Transformation no jutsu."
The attacks stopped in the blink of an eye, and Rain used that chance to approach and slash his sword at the enemy… the jokester path worked on the enemy, but not that much since the enemy flapped its wings away and then avoided the attack…
"This speed…" Rain thought.
The enemy opened his arms and hands again, and soon Rain moved away from his spot… but despite that, he still felt his whole body being barraged by countless light bolts that suddenly appeared, hitting his body.
The nature of the attacks was of the same nature as the magic gun that Rain once found… it would hit the target no matter what, but since the attacks were made of light, they would hit instantly as well… Rain wondered where the power of the crossbow was there, but he didn't have time for it…
Rain equipped the skill Phoenix's Rebirth and then activated it. In the next moment, all of the damage caused by the enemy was nullified… the creature kept hurting his skin, but it soon regenerated. Before long, the creature stopped attacking altogether once they realized the uselessness of that level of attack.
"My master allowed me to take this fight a bit more seriously," The creature said and then summoned a crossbow of light.
"Did you ask permission to breathe as well?" Rain asked. "You probably have just enough animal cunning to know how to breathe. By the way, breathing is fun."
Rain teleported to the back of the enemy and then tried to punch the creature, but the enemy flew away after turning into a bolt of light in the opposite direction. The enemy didn't notice that Rain didn't use the ominous sword, and soon the weapon touched the enemy's back, but it pierced slightly the enemy before becoming a sphere of light again and then disappearing in the distance.
"This fucker can move at the speed of light…" Rain thought.
Before Rain could pursue the enemy, a barrage of light bolts streaked across the horizon, hurtling toward the battlefield with incredible speed. These bolts, aimed directly at Rain and his companions, posed a threat with their relentless velocity.
Despite the ferocious speed of the incoming projectiles, Rain remained composed. With practiced precision, he swiftly brought his hands together, conjuring a protective barrier of water droplets using his secret technique. As the barrage of light bolts descended upon them, the water barrier intercepted each bolt, dispersing their energy and shielding Rain and his allies from harm.
However, the strain of maintaining the barrier began to take its toll on Rain's body. With each passing moment, he could feel his stamina draining rapidly, the exertion of his powers weighing heavily upon him. Though he managed to neutralize the immediate threat, the realization dawned upon him that he could not sustain this defense indefinitely.
"... They are still busy dealing with the sentinels, but in a minute or two…" Rain thought and then saw another wave of attacks coming on the horizon. "Fuck…"
Rain used the technique again, and then after blocking the attack, he appeared in front of the enemy… the enemy tried to move away, but Rain kept chasing him.
