Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 1052: Support

Despite the noticeable change in Rain's aura, the guards displayed a suspicious lack of hesitation as they charged toward him. The inexplicable behavior of the guards worked to Rain's advantage. As the next opponent charged at him, Rain moved with preternatural speed, sidestepping the incoming strike with ease.

In a fluid motion, Rain seized the guard by the neck and forcefully slammed him onto the metallic floor. The impact resonated through the entire area, causing it to tremble. However, the resilient armor of the guard remained unscathed, not even showing a hint of damage even though the ground had several marks in it…

The oddity of the situation struck Rain briefly, but he didn't dwell on it. The urgency of the ongoing battle and the need to focus on dismantling the massive cannon propelled him forward. Rain slammed the enemy several times on the ground in the fraction of a second, and then the armor suddenly fell apart…

Rain was surprised to see the enemies falling apart into numerous pieces in the shakes of pyramids. It wasn't like he didn't consider that he wouldn't fight robots, but he didn't think that it would be so soon… the others didn't mind that much as they saw that. Everything was surprising to them.

"It looks like the enemies health is the same amount as the mana that they carry," Sakaki said. "Unless all of their mana is depleted, they won't suffer any damage. At the same time, I am having a hard time stealing information from their network… they are using their mana to stop me as well, and they have enough supply worth of four worlds to do that."

While that was important, Rain didn't have time for that as his friends were fighting and slowly being overwhelmed…

Around that time, Asche, Liss and Reca finally launched their first attack on the massive cannon… while Liss and Reca charged their arrow and doesn't with all of their energy, Liss charged their attacks further with her lightning magic. Sakaki imagined that he would suffer some damage from that, so he moved away.

The impact made the whole structure tremble and sparks of lightning spread across the area as well… the guards also stopped moving for a moment, almost as if they wanted to see the result of the attacks… However, while the attacks pierced the cannon, the damage was meager.

Their best attacks only pierced a couple of meters of the cannon, when it was clear that the walls were several kilometers thick.

Reca, Liss and Asche looked at each other in shock for a moment… how many of their best attacks would they have to use to create just a hole on that?

"Keep attacking!" Terra shouted. "Use your head as well."

Those three felt their mana being restored thanks to Vanessa, so they knew that they couldn't stop. At the same time, Rain looked at them over his shoulder… things weren't that simple, they would need to attack while nullifying what makes the defenses of the Cannon impressive… it was the mana that it was able to harness. The cannon worked in the same way as the guards.

"Go do something about that," Rain said to Vanessa.

"I want to ask where my please is, but I guess it isn't time for that…" Vanessa said. "If you want some results, I won't be able to support you three here."

"Just hurry up," Rain said.

Vanessa left Rain's side, quickly making her way toward the others. Her goal was to sever the connection between the massive corridors and the cannon, effectively cutting off the source of its defensive strength.

Meanwhile, the guards, realizing that the disruptive force had moved away, took advantage of the opportunity. Hundreds of them, in unison, raised their weapons—mana-infused spears—and prepared to throw them at Rain and the rest of the group.

The gleam of the spears hinted at their destructive potential, and the sheer number of guards meant that defending against all their attacks simultaneously would be impossible.

Rain and the others found themselves in a precarious situation. They couldn't dodge the impending attack, as doing so would leave those behind them vulnerable. The urgency of the situation weighed heavily on Rain's mind as he assessed the incoming threat.

"What now?" Terra asked.

"Time to make yourselves useful," Rain said.

Elisabetha moved to Jori's hands and Larisa moved to Terra's hands as well. They immediately were able to feel the power of the weapons… while they were made to slay dragons, that still would do the trick against magical attacks of that scale.

"What about you?" Terra asked.

"I will be fine, I will do something else, just focus on attacking them when you can," Rain said.

"By the way, I am noticing that we aren't getting experience… those things aren't monsters or people like us, right?" Jori asked.

"That is right, no need to feel bad about them," Rain said.

Rain took a few steps backward and then Terra and Jori readied themselves for the enemy attack… They didn't know why Rain was stepping back, but they trusted him completely. Their trust was confirmed when the enemies fired their spears at them…

Terra and Jori swung the weapons violently from one side to the other and repelled them, making all the mana dissipate as well. Still, they couldn't block all the attacks at once… several of them passed their defenses.

Still, much to their surprise, some minor explosions happened around them and they felt the pressure of the air pushing them backward, but no real damage was caused. Jori and Terra were surprised when the Barrage of attacks ended and they were mostly fine…

The guards didn't do anything, they just looked at Rain blankly… when Jori and Terra did the same, they saw Rain's arms mainly burned trying to be healed as fast as possible, but repairing the flesh was taking some time.

"What did you do?" Terra asked.

"A real magician never reveals his tricks," Rain said. "Anyway, this doesn't hurt, so don't worry."
