Chapter 13: Chapter 13
[You went outside the city and hunted five Giant Frogs. After receiving the task reward and selling the Giant Frog meat, you earned 30,000 Eris.]
[Congratulations on completing the quest. Your attributes have slightly improved.]
"Huh?!"
Kei was surprised to hear the notification in his mind. He hadn't expected to receive rewards just for completing a mission.
"Oh, training is a form of effort, and similarly, doing quests is also a form of effort. I spent time, energy, and took risks to complete the task."
"So, of course, I can earn rewards! And an all-around stat boost at that! Not bad at all!"
Kei suddenly discovered a better training method: doing quests. The rewards from completing tasks would help him grow stronger much faster.
"Time to grind! Let's get to it!"
Kei originally planned to take a break, but at this moment, he completely threw that idea away. He immediately began accepting every mission that his level could handle.
Eliminate Giant Frogs, hunt Wild Wolves, clear paths, gather information—if he could take on the quest, he accepted it.
[Encouraged by the task rewards, you began relentlessly taking on quests. Your diligence and effort gradually caught everyone's attention.]
[Your strength continued to improve.]
Three days later.
"Eh?! There are no more Giant Frog quests left!"
"That's right. All the Giant Frogs from the surrounding villages have been wiped out, and most of the dangerous creatures have been hunted down as well."
"These types of quests are all gone."
Luna explained to the adventurer standing before her.
"What's going on? Just two days ago, there were still plenty of these tasks. How did they disappear overnight?"
The adventurer was broke and desperately needed to earn money through quests.
"Brother, you haven't been to the Adventurer's Guild these past few days, have you?"
A burly adventurer sitting nearby, sipping his drink, spoke up.
"Yeah, I was soaking in the hot springs at a neighboring city. Did something happen during that time?"
The adventurer asked, confused.
"Heh heh, during this time, a 'Quest King' appeared in our guild!"
"Quest King? What's that? A title or something?"
The adventurer grew even more puzzled.
"The Quest King is a newly emerging legend. In just three days, he completed over a hundred quests!"
"A complete monster!"
Another adventurer at the guild added.
"Wait, are you saying this 'Quest King' accepted all the quests? But completing over a hundred quests in just three days—how's that even possible?!"
The adventurer couldn't believe it. Completing even one quest usually took him a day or two, and difficult tasks took even longer.
A hundred quests in three days? That's something no human could possibly achieve.
"Heh, that's the Quest King for you. Born to do quests!"
"I once saw him still working on tasks at three in the morning when I was heading home."
An adventurer from the tavern spoke up.
"Wait, why were you heading home at three in the morning?"
"Drank too much, fell asleep on the street. Woke up around three and happened to see the Quest King returning from a monster hunt."
"Now that you mention it, I remember something! Yesterday, I woke up at four in the morning to use the bathroom and saw the Quest King too!"
"Damn! Is he really staying up all night doing quests?!"
"Not just that! I woke up again at five and saw him too!"
"Five in the morning?! That's nearly sunrise! Is he planning on working through the entire night?!"
"When I woke up at six to use the bathroom again..."
"Why do you keep waking up so often to use the bathroom?!"
"I drank too much water! Mind your own business. Anyway, I saw the Quest King at six. The guy seriously didn't sleep all night!"
The adventurer listened to their descriptions and imagined a task-crazed lunatic working through the night. He asked:
"Has that guy been working non-stop for three days? Is he even human? Could he be an undead creature or something?"
"Funny you should say that. Someone claimed to have seen him purifying the undead, actually."
"Huh? That sounds like a rumor. The Quest King's class is supposed to be a Sword Saint. He shouldn't have the skill to purify the undead."
"But cutting down undead creatures is a form of purification, isn't it? I saw the Quest King holding twin blades of light, slicing through the undead!"
"How brutal! No wonder they call him the legendary Quest King!"
The adventurer gulped nervously.
"And you guys are just standing around, letting him hog all the quests? Without quests, how are we supposed to make money?!"
"It's not a big deal. The Quest King completes tasks really fast, but the monsters he kills still need to be transported back. We just take on those tasks."
"Exactly. Sometimes, if the Quest King doesn't feel like getting food himself, he even pays us to do errands for him."
"He only cares about completing tasks. Money doesn't seem to matter to him. To be fair, with how many tasks he's completed, he probably has more than enough money."
The crowd in the tavern laughed and joked.
"These guys are done for!"
"If you're an adventurer who doesn't even do quests, you're nothing but a lowly errand boy!"
The adventurer's pride wouldn't allow him to settle for mere scraps from the Quest King's leftovers.
"The Quest King is an adventurer. So am I. He's human, and I'm human. If he can do it, so can I!"
The adventurer steeled himself, determined to compete with Kei and restore his own dignity. He firmly believed that with enough effort, he could achieve the same results.
Just then, the doors of the Adventurer's Guild opened.
"Miss Luna, I'm here to turn in my quests. By the way, are there any new quests available?"
"Yes, I've already prepared them for you."
Kei walked over and started signing off on the quest sheets one by one. These were all the tasks he had completed.
"Alright, I've signed them all. You can check them whenever you're ready and pay me afterward. For now, I'll take on the new quests!"
"Understood. Here are the new quests. Once you confirm, I'll register them for you."
Kei quickly looked over the dozen or so quest sheets and nodded, indicating there were no issues. Luna immediately began registering the quests.
"All done. Wishing you the best of luck."
"Thanks for the kind words."
Kei took the quests and headed out the door.
"The Quest King is as fast-paced as always!"
"Alright, guys, let's go clean up the battlefield for the Quest King."
"Yeah, let's go."
The crowd in the tavern quickly moved to handle the cleanup tasks. There was no need for Kei to instruct them; they had already made arrangements, with deposits paid in advance.
"Hmph! I want to see how that guy does it!"
The adventurer wanted to take on quests and compete against Kei, but after checking, he found that all the tasks had already been taken. With no other choice, he decided to follow Kei and secretly observe him.
