In Honkai with Tom Cat

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Run!

Li Huan wasn't wrong—something had indeed happened outside.

Let's rewind a bit to before the gunshot.

Kiana had been crouching obediently in the bushes for about twenty minutes. She was a person of her word, so she waited for Li Huan to return, although it was incredibly boring.

Seeing that there were only about twenty minutes left, she decided to start clearing out the dead soldiers around the building.

After all, it would be too troublesome if Li Huan and the others had to sneak around when they came down, so she might as well clear a path.

So, Kiana grabbed a baseball bat (one she got herself) and made quick work of all the dead soldiers in the area.

However, just as she finished off the last dead soldier and was about to put away her bat and wait for the others, a sudden bad feeling made her shiver.

And then, that feeling came true.

A cold flash, accompanied by a fierce gust of wind, suddenly came at her from behind. The speed, angle, and force all suggested it was meant to kill her.

If it were an ordinary person, they'd probably be sliced in half before they could even react. But Kiana wasn't one to sit around and wait for death. As a warrior of the Kaslana family (as she called herself), her battle instincts kicked in, and she quickly swung her baseball bat behind her to block the attack.

Screech——

With the sound of metal grinding, Kiana barely managed to block the attack with her metal bat.

Seizing the opportunity, she didn't bother to see who had attacked her and delivered a powerful backward kick at her assailant.

Thud.

Her kick landed, and the sheer force sent the attacker flying, slamming them into a tree.

Meanwhile, this was the moment when Li Huan's head was hit by the monitor, so he had no idea what was happening outside.

Feeling the pressure behind her, Kiana immediately did a forward roll, then skillfully turned around and steadied herself in a half-crouched position.

Now, she finally had time to see who had been foolish enough to ambush her.

The attacker, who had been kicked away, slowly stood up.

It was a woman dressed in black with purplish-white skin. She had short white hair, a plain face with no expression, and eyes filled with a dull, dark purple, devoid of any life.

The moment Kiana saw her attacker, her eyes narrowed.

It was a Reaper Dead Soldier!

There are ranks among the Dead Soldiers. The lowest are zombie-type Dead Soldiers, who have no weapons or abilities, only the most basic attack instincts and the enhanced strength given by the Honkai energy.

One level above these lowest ranks are the Reaper Dead Soldiers. These Dead Soldiers usually have a more distinct appearance and are far more powerful than the zombies, possessing a certain level of combat skill and technique.

Though they're still considered cannon fodder, with weapons and some combat skills, they're no longer as easy to deal with as the zombies.

This Reaper Dead Soldier must have wandered here and decided to ambush Kiana while she was clearing out the area.

"They're already sending out Reaper Dead Soldiers?" Kiana muttered as she looked at her metal bat, now sporting a deep cut from the scythe.

"If it weren't for the metal bat, I'd probably have been hit…"

Meanwhile, the Reaper Dead Soldier, holding its scythe, had already stood up and was charging at Kiana again!

Bang!

With a gunshot, a hole appeared in the Dead Soldier's forehead.

Kiana's left hand now held a handgun, and she had discarded her bat, pulling out another handgun with her right hand.

As the saying goes, "Beyond seven steps, a gun is quicker; within seven steps, a gun is quick and accurate."

With the enemy this close, Kiana didn't hold back.

She repeatedly pulled the triggers, fire spitting from the gun barrels.

Her bullets struck the enemy's hands, feet, body, and head. When Kiana finally stopped shooting, the Dead Soldier swayed and then collapsed to the ground, disintegrating into purple particles.

Even though she had defeated her opponent, Kiana's expression wasn't happy—she became more anxious instead.

The noise from the guns would easily attract more enemies, and Dead Soldiers had very sharp hearing, so they must have heard the gunfire.

As Kiana expected, faint groans from Dead Soldiers could already be heard in the distance.

It seemed like they were heading this way, which was really bad.

At the same time, Li Huan opened the window in the computer room.

Seeing him appear, Kiana immediately shouted, "Slide down quickly, we need to run!"

Li Huan looked around at the surroundings.

From his high vantage point, Li Huan could see more. He noticed a group of zombies coming from the west, seemingly heading their way.

"Damn, what did you do?"

"Forget that, if you don't come now, we won't be able to escape!"

With the situation urgent, Li Huan glanced down, and without thinking too much, steeled himself, grabbed Tom, and jumped from the third floor.

Tom looked terrified as his owner suddenly grabbed him and jumped out of the window, his eyes bulging in fear as he let out a scream.

"Meow——————————!"

Kiana, watching from below, was stunned as she saw Li Huan jump.

What was he doing, trying to kill himself?

Li Huan and Tom free-fell for a moment, then crash face-first into the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Kiana, who had witnessed the whole scene, closed her eyes, unable to bear watching.

In the dust, Li Huan lay on the ground like a corpse at a crime scene.

Tom, on the other hand, was knocked out cold, little stars circling above his head.

Looking at the lifeless Li Huan, Kiana's first thought was that he might have died from the fall.

But in the next second, Li Huan suddenly pushed himself up with his hands and stood up.

"Ahhhh!" Kiana screamed in shock, jumping back a step.

Li Huan, acting as if nothing had happened, shouted at her, "What are you waiting for? Run!"

The next moment, he grabbed the unconscious Tom and started running east.

Tom, like a flag flapping in the wind, swayed in the air as they ran.

Kiana quickly came to her senses and followed behind Li Huan. The two of them, along with the cat, sprinted off into the distance like journalists fleeing a dangerous scene.
