Chapter 106: Chapter 106 - Cutting Yourself with Your Own Blade?
Chapter 106 - Cutting Yourself with Your Own Blade?
Byakuya Kuchiki froze for a moment.
Gilgamesh's words were so domineering that they made Byakuya laugh out of sheer anger.
"Without your permission, I'm not allowed to use Bankai?"
"That's the funniest joke I've ever heard."
"You brat, who do you think you are? Do you think you can order me around?"
Byakuya's words received no response from Gilgamesh, who only looked at him calmly.
Byakuya chose to ignore Gilgamesh after that.
To Byakuya, Gilgamesh might have an air of nobility, and perhaps some important background, but he was still just an overconfident child.
Calling himself 'King'? Clearly, he was spoiled at home, thinking that everyone outside would bow to his commands.
Glancing at the kneeling members of Hisagi's squad, Byakuya wasted no time. He held Senbonzakura upside down and recited, "Bankai, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi!"
As he spoke, Byakuya released his grip on Senbonzakura, letting it drop.
In the past, Byakuya hadn't believed Ichigo's Bankai was real, thinking he was mocking him.
But now, Byakuya knew that Ichigo's Bankai was genuine, albeit a highly compressed form that greatly enhanced his strength and speed.
Clearly, Byakuya's Shikai was no longer enough to handle Ichigo's Bankai.
To deal with Ichigo, Byakuya needed his own Bankai—
Clang!
The sound of Senbonzakura hitting the ground suddenly echoed, causing Byakuya's eyes to widen in disbelief.
Instinctively looking toward the source of the sound, Byakuya saw Senbonzakura lying scattered on the ground in disarray.
"This... how is this possible!?"
Byakuya murmured in shock.
When Senbonzakura's Bankai is activated, ripples spread across the ground, and the blade sinks into those ripples, followed by the appearance of dozens of massively enlarged Senbonzakura blades on either side of Byakuya.
But now, there were no ripples, no enlarged blades—nothing.
Without a doubt, Byakuya had failed to activate his Bankai.
This was the first time Byakuya had ever failed to activate his Bankai since mastering it.
But how could his Bankai fail?
As he pondered this, Byakuya's pupils contracted, and he couldn't help but glance at Gilgamesh, recalling the words he had just spoken.
At that moment, Senbonzakura's voice echoed in Byakuya's mind: "Byakuya, I'm sorry. The king's command is absolute. Without his permission, I cannot activate Bankai."
In that instant, Byakuya realized Gilgamesh's words weren't directed at him—they were directed at Senbonzakura.
But why was Gilgamesh considered Senbonzakura's king? And how could he control it?
Byakuya was filled with confusion and wanted answers.
Just then, a sudden change occurred.
A massive hand, wielding a gigantic Zanpakuto the size of a house, came slashing down toward Gilgamesh.
Not only that, the blade was infused with a terrifying amount of spiritual pressure.
Even before the blade reached its target, the spiritual pressure formed a sharp sword aura that slashed toward Gilgamesh.
The ground began to collapse under the weight of the overwhelming sword aura.
Ichigo, noticing the impending danger, reacted immediately. His expression changed drastically, and without hesitation, he moved to help.
"Sit Upon the Frozen Heavens, Hyōrinmaru!"
With that command, a massive ice dragon roared toward Ichigo, stopping him in his tracks.
Boom!
The ice dragon crashed into the ground, forming a chilling pillar of ice. A cold voice followed: "Intruder, your opponent is me!"
The battered members of Hisagi's squad sighed in relief upon seeing the newcomer.
It was none other than the youngest and most talented captain in the Gotei 13, Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya of the Tenth Division.
Ichigo's face showed his frustration as he called out, "Hitsugaya! Get out of the way! Now's not the time to fight you!"
Hitsugaya narrowed his eyes slightly at the sound of Ichigo calling his name and asked, "Who are you? How do you know my name?"
Ichigo didn't bother answering. He used Shunpo to try and bypass Hitsugaya.
"Ice Pillar Murder!"
A barrage of ice projectiles, like a flock of birds, shot toward Ichigo, stopping him in his tracks once again.
With a stern face, Hitsugaya said, "I've already told you, I'm your opponent. There's no way I'll let you go help your ally!"
"Huh!?"
Ichigo was taken aback and couldn't help but ask, "Who said I was going to help the Hero King?"
Hitsugaya frowned, about to ask a question, but Ichigo continued, "I'm going to rescue Byakuya and Komamura!"
Hitsugaya froze in confusion.
Even the members of Hisagi's squad were dumbfounded.
The next moment, they burst into laughter.
"Wait, wait, did I hear that right? This intruder said he's going to rescue Captain Kuchiki and Captain Komamura?"
"Is this guy out of his mind?"
"Definitely. No one in their right mind would invade Seireitei like this!"
"And why would he need to rescue Captain Kuchiki and Captain Komamura? Does he think that handsome student over there could possibly harm them?"
"That's a joke! If a student could harm a Gotei 13 captain, I'll eat three bowls of dung standing on my head!"
Hitsugaya ignored the banter from Hisagi's squad, but something was nagging at him.
By all logic, Komamura's attack should have landed by now, causing a massive impact. So why had there been no sound or movement?
Instinctively turning to look, Hitsugaya's pupils contracted in shock.
Gilgamesh stood completely unscathed, and the surrounding terrain was untouched.
It was as if Komamura's attack had simply vanished.
Meanwhile, Byakuya, standing on a nearby rooftop, wore a look of utter disbelief as he stared at Gilgamesh, as though witnessing something impossible.
What in the world had happened?
Before Hitsugaya could process it, a massive sound erupted from a distance.
Turning toward the noise, Hitsugaya saw Komamura's giant spiritual pressure-infused arm, along with his colossal Zanpakuto, swinging toward him.
Boom!
