Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Frozen Echoes
The world snapped to white.
One moment, Riven was suck through the flickering portal in the mall. The next, he stood alone in a place of ice and silence.
Wind howled through jagged caverns, and frost hung heavy in the air, curling into his lungs with every breath.
The dungeon was different—brighter, colder, and somehow quieter than the previous one.
Riven's boots crunched over the snow-dusted stone as he scanned the area.
No sounds. No footsteps. No hunters.
He raised a brow. "No one else got pulled in?"
He waited for a few seconds, half-hoping some hunter would come stumbling through the portal behind him. But the swirling tear sealed shut, leaving him alone in the blue glow of the frozen dungeon.
'Great.'
And he can't go back until the dungeon boss is defeated.
Riven pressed his hands against his arms, rubbing warmth into his sleeves. The temperature was dropping fast. His breath came out in plumes. The Omnitrix gave off a faint green glow on his wrist, steady but unreadable.
"Definitely an ice-type dungeon," he muttered, peering ahead. "Figures they'd tossing me into a freezer next."
He moved forward with caution, keeping his steps light. Ice coated the walls, glimmering like glass. Stalactites hung like frozen teeth from the ceiling. Even the ground shimmered dangerously, as if daring him to slip.
He didn't get far before the first enemy found him.
A low growl echoed from behind a jagged ice pillar. Then another.
Three beasts emerged from the shadows—ice wolves, made of frost and bone, their eyes glowing with blue fury. Crystallized spikes lined their backs, and vapor poured from their mouths like dragon breath.
Riven stepped back.
"Of course…"
He slapped the Omnitrix, activating the dial. A flash of green surged through him.
Heatblast!
Flames roared to life along his arms and shoulders. The wolves flinched but didn't hesitate. They charged.
Riven spun and sent a wave of fire across the floor. The front wolf melted into a puddle of slush, while the second froze mid-jump, stunned by the sudden heatwave. The third managed to strike, its icy claws scraping across his shoulder, but the molten armor absorbed most of the impact.
He fired another blast and sent it crashing into a wall.
The second wolf that was stunts before saw his friends got melted and growls and jump towards him and tried to bite.
But before the wolf could bite him.
Riven leg burst in flame and he flew upward and fire another blast.
After he had defeated the ice wolves he stays in his alien form for atleast a few minutes.
But the Omnitrix beeped sharply—flashing red.
Warning: Energy Levels Depleting Is high Due to the change of environment around the alien is opposite to itself.
"Already?!" he hissed. "So the cold drains power faster here, huh?"
He gritted his teeth and manually deactivated the transformation, flames flickering out as he returned to his human form. He dropped to one knee, breath fogging in the air.
"Can't waste it on everything that growls."
He didn't want to die fighting in his human form.
The cold hit him harder now. His body trembled, not from fear but sheer exposure.
He pushed forward.
The deeper he went, the worse the cold became. Every breath stung his lungs. His fingers felt stiff. His lips cracked. He wrapped his arms around himself as the wind grew stronger, howling through cracks in the dungeon walls.
Then, just ahead—a strange silhouette.
Half-buried in snow and frost stood what looked like the crumbling shell of a building—metal walls curved inward like a giant ribcage, with broken pillars holding up a collapsed roof. Glowing blue script ran faintly across the edge of the structure.
Riven's eyes narrowed. "A lab?"
He approached the ruined doorway and shouldered it open. The moment he stepped inside, the wind died. The air, though still cold, felt less hostile. Strange machinery lined the walls—tubes, containment chambers, melted control panels. One corner even held collapsed crates and shelves covered in frost.
The Omnitrix lit up without prompting.
Unknown DNA signature detected… Synchronization in progress… Source location: internal vault.
Riven's heart jumped.
"So this is another one of those ancient labs…" he whispered. "And there's alien DNA here."
He turned to explore. Lights flickered faintly along the ground. Rusted storage units clattered under his boots. The place looked ransacked, as if someone—or something—had already looted it centuries ago.
Then, near the back, Riven spotted a locker wedged into the wall, its door frozen shut. He slammed his shoulder into it twice before the latch cracked open.
Inside, to his surprise, were weathered thermal clothes—an old insulated coat, thick gloves, and a pair of reinforced boots. Hunter gear, or maybe ancient researcher uniforms. Whatever they were, they looked warmer than what he had on.
He changed quickly, slipping into the new coat and boots. They were a little big but manageable. He flexed his gloved fingers and nodded.
"Better."
The Omnitrix pulsed again.
Genetic pattern partially integrated. New strain: Cryo-type. Stabilization required for combat use.
He looked up slowly.
"Another alien, huh?"
It was happening again—just like the volcanic dungeon. The closer he got to the heart of the dungeon, the more the Omnitrix responded. The more connected it felt to these ancient labs.
"You're evolving," he said quietly, looking at the device. "Or unlocking your features."
He tightened the new gloves and moved toward the interior vault.
Somewhere deep inside this frozen tomb… the real threat waited.
Chapter End.
