I'm Really Not A Nen Exorcist (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 478: Chapter 478 Chairman?

The excavation of Tumonkatan's tomb in the Luluci gave Satotz the opportunity to meet the exceptionally talented Moses.

But since that encounter, they hadn't seen each other in years.

It was not until this Hunter Exam that Satotz received the examiner appointment notice from the Hunter Association, and learned that Moses, who had disappeared for many years, would also serve as examiner in this Hunter Exam.

This made him quite happy.

Although he already knew in advance that Moses would participate in the test as examinee No. 000, seeing him now with a Netero mask on his face stunned Satotz.

'Does Chairman Netero know about this?'

Suppressing his urge to ask, Satotz managed a difficult nod in response to Moses's question.

'That silicone mask doesn't even have holes for the eyes and mouth. It's basically a complete replica, how could it not look authentic?'

Moses looked at Satotz reaction and laughed with satisfaction.

Only, that chuckle sounded a little strange, muffled by the tightly sealed mask.

"Mr. Moses, I heard you recently earned your Double-Star title."

Satotz tried to avoid looking directly at the mask as he mentioned the news he'd recently heard.

"Yes."

Moses confirmed without hesitation. "But my license hasn't been updated yet."

To earn a Double-Star rank, one had to train a Single-Star Pro Hunter as their disciple. Two years ago, Menchi earned her Single-Star title, making her the youngest Single-Star Gourmet Hunter in history, which directly enabled Moses, her mentor, to rank up to Double-Star.

However, Moses had spent nearly two years within ancient ruins, delaying his registration with the association.

It was not until recently when he came out of the ruins that he completed his promotion process with Beans's assistance.

Due to the timing, right before the Hunter Exam, his Hunter License hadn't been updated, and no formal announcement had been made.

A Star Pro Hunter's Hunter License is different from the ordinary Hunter License. The Hunter Association's exclusive X mark will be added on the back of the license, and each X represents one star.

"Your ability more than qualifies you for Double-Star."

Satotz finally looked directly at the Netero silicone mask and remarked sincerely.

Moses just smiled when he heard this.

A moment of silence settled between them.

Satotz soon turned his focus back to the mask.

Without eye holes, the mask would undoubtedly limit Moses's vision, yet Satotz felt as though Moses could still see.

"Satotz, are you planning to wait here for the examinees?"

Moses asked suddenly, gesturing to the rectangular hole above the pipes.

He vaguely recalled that in the original work, Satotz didn't officially appear until the test began, 'Surely Satotz wouldn't change plans because of my presence, right?'

Satotz looked hesitant.

He actually planned to stay here and wait for all the examinees to arrive, so that he could chat with Moses in the limited time.

However, after taking one look at the mask on Moses's face, he ultimately decided to return to his standby position.

"I'll appear after the check-in time ends."

He glanced at the hole above the pipe and said.

Moses nodded.

Moments later, Satotz returned to his position.

Moses then saw that the rectangular hole with a missing brick was restored to its original state with a slight Nen fluctuation.

'Emission or Conjuration-Type, perhaps…'

Seeing that Satotz used his ability to restore the hole to its original state, Moses made some guesses in his heart.

There is too little information to make a clear guess.

Moses took out his number plate and casually pinned it on his chest, then he jumped onto a pipe more than three meters above the ground and sat down to wait for the arrival of other examinees.

A long time passed…

No examinees have arrived here yet, but Beans showed up first, carrying a box of number plates.

His duty is to distribute number plates to the examinees present.

"Yo."

Seeing Beans, Moses, who was sitting on the pipe, raised his hand and greeted him.

"Huh?"

Hearing the strange sound suddenly coming from high up, Beans was slightly startled. Following the sound, he looked up to see what appeared to be Netero's face peeking out from the dimly lit pipe above.

"Chairman, what are you doing here?!"

Beans's eyes widened in shock, his face full of disbelief.

Moses was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter.

Realizing something was off from the strange sound of the laugh, Beans quickly understood it wasn't actually Netero. With the faint light, he saw the special number plate on Moses's chest.

"Mr. Moses, you...???"

Beans was speechless as he stared at the highly realistic Netero mask, and unstoppable black lines and wrinkles appeared on his smooth forehead.

Moses's laughter subsided, and he asked earnestly, "What do you think? Pretty attention-grabbing, right?"

"Yes… I imagine every examinee who arrives will take a second look at you."

Beans replied, the lines on his forehead deepening as he finally understood how Moses planned to attract the examinees' attention.

'But even if he wanted to give the examinees clues, there is no need to violate Chairman's image rights, right...?'

"Mr. Moses."

Beans hesitated for a moment and asked, "If I may ask… did you get Chairman Netero's permission for this?"

"Beans, take a guess- how do you think I got this mask?"

Moses responded with a question.

Beans was stunned when he heard this, and soon thought of a possibility.

'Could it be that Mr. Moses went to Chairman Netero to seek advice, and then Chairman Netero not only agreed, but also enthusiastically offered to provide Mr. Moses with a silicone mask of himself???'

If it were anyone else...

Beans would have thought such a scenario was absurd.

But if it involved Netero...

Beans: "…"

"Looks like you've guessed it," Moses chuckled under the mask.

Beans sighed deeply, feeling both exasperated and resigned.

One Netero causing chaos was already enough, but now Moses joined in.

Beans suddenly felt a bit weary. Fortunately, he was used to these kinds of antics and quickly regained his composure, taking his place in the passageway to await the examinees' arrival.

Since Moses's current official identity was an examinee, he did not talk to Beans anymore.

An hour later.

An hour later, a faint pneumatic sound echoed from the elevator room, followed by the opening of the main doors. A burly man in white samurai clothes with a long sword hanging from his waist walked out.

"So, this is the place?"

The samurai walked into the passage and saw Beans at a glance. When he was about to say something, he saw Beans pulled out a number plate 001 from the box.

"Oh?"

When the samurai saw the number plate, he immediately realized that Beans was the staff member responsible for the Hunter Exam.

"Looks like I'm the first one here. The Hunter Exam isn't as challenging as they say."

Taking the number plate 001 from Beans, the samurai seemed a little proud.

This was his first time taking the Hunter Exam, and he'd heard plenty about its difficulty before signing up.

But he didn't expect to be the first to reach the test location on his maiden attempt. This made him feel that the Hunter Exam's difficulty might be exaggerated.

Hearing this, Beans corrected him, "You're the second candidate to arrive."

"The second one?"

The samurai had just pinned the number plate on his chest. Hearing this, he raised his eyebrows and looked at Beans.

Beans didn't explain further, but merely glanced toward where Moses was seated.

Seeing this, the samurai also looked in that direction along with Beans, and saw Moses perched on the pipe, with number plate 000 on his chest.

'There's a 000???'

The samurai's expression stiffened, and his previous pride immediately vanished.
