Chapter 120: James
James knew it would not be easy to get rid of Adam. He would have to make a plan a very careful plan.
Adam in front of him was getting very agitated. He looked at James. "This is the first and last time," he said.
"Don't make me come to you again. It will create a lot of problems for you. Do you understand?"
James just nodded his head a silent admission of defeat.
Sophia watched them from her seat in the classroom her heart pounding in her chest. Then Adam turned and walked back into the class leaving James standing alone in the hallway.
James went back to his office muttering curses under his breath curses that Adam heard with his enhanced senses. He knew he would have to teach James a more permanent lesson soon.
He sat down next to Sophia. "Adam what were you doing with Teacher James?" she asked her voice a mixture of concern and a dawning fear.
"Sophia remember this," he said his voice a firm command. "You have to stay as far away from this teacher as possible."
She was surprised but she trusted him completely. If he said to stay away from Teacher James she would. She then looked around the classroom and noticed that Lily was still not there.
"Are you okay now?" Adam asked his voice a little softer now.
"I'm perfectly fine," she said with a small smile. "I'm feeling much better now."
They studied together for the rest of the day in a comfortable silence. When the final bell rang they walked out of the school together.
"You go," Adam said to Sophia when they reached the school gates. "I have to go somewhere else."
She wanted to argue to protest. But she knew it was useless. She knew his life was not normal. It was a life filled with danger and secrets. She nodded and walked away leaving him standing alone.
Adam then went back inside the school. He saw James getting into his car in the deserted parking lot. He came up behind him grabbed his clothes and threw him backwards with a surprising strength.
"Where are you going so fast Mr. James?" he asked his voice a chilling whisper.
James's face was pale with fear. "At least let me go home," he stammered his voice a pathetic whimper. "What have I done now?"
Adam punched him in the face a single brutal blow that sent him sprawling to the ground. James's eye was already swelling shut.
"It seems I'll have to give you this treatment repeatedly," Adam said his voice a cold promise of future pain. "Then maybe you'll understand. Otherwise you'll just keep making the same mistake over and over again."
James struggled to his feet. He was in a lot of pain but he did not want Adam to hit him again. He did not understand how Adam had become so powerful so strong.
Adam got into the passenger seat of the car. James got in as well his face a swollen throbbing mess.
"Where do you want to go?" he asked his voice a pathetic whimper a complete surrender.
Adam was surprised. It seemed one punch was all it took to beat the arrogance out of him. He had learned to give him the respect he deserved.
Adam spoke calmly his voice a flat monotone. "Let's go to Philips's house."
James looked at him surprised.
He knew now with a chilling certainty that Adam was not an innocent child.
He was something else entirely something far more dangerous. James looked away from him and stared out the front windshield his mind somewhere else.
I should have killed this boy when I had the chance he thought to himself a bitter taste in his mouth. But that foolish Philips ruined the whole plan. He just had to hesitate. He glanced at Adam again. He's becoming more dangerous day by day. Or was he always this dangerous and I just didn't see it?
He started the car and drove away from the school his hands trembling slightly on the steering wheel.
After a short drive they arrived at Philips's house. It was a large impressive home a mansion.
Neither of them showed any emotion as they pulled up to the gate. James was not surprised to be here and Adam was not surprised that James knew the way.
He realized that James had been here before. He had never told him the address. Not only did James know where Philips lived, he had been to his house before.
He was probably blackmailing him in his own home a cruel and ironic twist. Adam was surprised that Philips had not done anything about it. Why would he allow himself to be controlled by a weak and greedy man like James?
But then he remembered one thing. Philips was obsessed with Sophia.
He would do anything to maintain his normal persona his mask of the quiet studious boy in order to get closer to her. He would even allow himself to be blackmailed. He would endure any humiliation any indignity for the sake of his obsession.
"Now go inside quietly," Adam said his voice a low command. "And if you tell Philips that I am with you or that I did this to your face then I have many things I can do against you. Things that will make you wish you were never born."
James looked at him fear in his eyes. He understood Adam's threat. He nodded his head indicating that he understood.
"Go to his house and bring me all the papers you find there," Adam said.
"Whatever kind of documents you find whatever things you find you have to pick them up and bring them to me. I want everything. And remember Philips should not know about this. Even if you blackmail him he should not know about this. Do you understand?"
James was surprised. He wanted him to steal from Philips's house. And he had chosen him his own teacher to do it. The irony was not lost on him. He was frustrated but he knew he had no choice.
It was not a difficult task for him. He could easily manipulate Philips. He had been doing it for months. He had no fear of him. And that was exactly what Adam wanted.
The moment James discovered Philips's true colors the moment he saw the monster behind the mask he would be useless to him as a tool. But for now he was the perfect instrument.
