I want to be a Necromancer!

Chapter 12: Cave of monsters

As Azrael arrived he saw his father outside of their house doing craftsmanship, his father immediately asked him "Where have you been?" as soon as he saw Azrael, eyeing him curiously.

"I was… at the local library, Father," Azrael replied, fabricating a little lie for a quick excuse.

"But what happened to your clothes? They're dusty and covered in mud," his father pointed out.

"Oh—uh, I tripped on the way back. Haha," Azrael said nervously.

His father sighed. "Alright, go change your clothes. Once you're done, we need to talk."

Confused, Azrael nodded and headed to his room. After quickly changing into fresh clothes, he made his way to the living room, where his parents were sitting on the couch, waiting for him.

"What's going on, Mother? Father?" Azrael asked as he sat down across from them.

His father cleared his throat. "Azrael, your mother and I have been discussing about your future. Since you already have magic powers, we believe it's time for you to formally hone your abilities. We'd like to consider you enrolling in the kingdom's only prestigious academy."

"The Asheroth Academy?" Azrael asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, son," his mother chimed in. "They accept students regardless of status, as long as you pass their entrance exam. But here's the thing—the exam is only for those who are 14 years old."

Azrael nodded thoughtfully. "I see. That's an incredible opportunity, and I'll definitely consider it. Thank you, Mother and Father."

His father beamed with pride, and his mother smiled warmly. "We're so happy to hear that, Azrael. It's a chance for you to grow into your potential," his father said.

"Alright, may I excuse myself and head to my room? It's been a long day, and I could really use some rest," Azrael said with a light chuckle as he stood up.

"Of course, dear. I'll call you when dinner's ready," his mother replied warmly.

Azrael nodded, then made his way to his room, his thoughts empty as he drifts away from his sleep

Morning came, and Azrael woke up with a start. "I missed dinner last night... but wow, that was a great sleep," he muttered to himself, stretching as he got out of bed.

Heading out of his room, he saw his mom busy in the kitchen, preparing breakfast.

"Morning, Mom!" Azrael greeted cheerfully.

"Oh, you're up already. Sit down, I've got breakfast ready for you," his mom replied with a smile. Azrael quickly sat at the table.

"I didn't bother waking you last night since you were sound asleep—that's why you missed dinner," she explained, placing the food on the table. "Here you go," she added, gesturing to the meal.

"Thanks, Mom," Azrael said as she stepped away.

"I'll be heading out to buy a few things, alright? Just finish your breakfast," Azrael's mom said as she made her way to the door.

"Okay, Mom. I'll be leaving after I finish eating, too," Azrael added.

"Alright then, just make sure to lock up before you go," his mom replied with a smile before stepping outside.

after a while Azraels done eating and head outside, his only plan today is to go inside the forest to meet the wolf leader

"Haaa," Azrael sighed. "I lost the Goblin Chief's soul during the fight yesterday. How can I replace it?"

He paused, then continued, "I even lost so many soul stacks in my inventory from using Soul Blast. I'll need to kill a lot of monsters today."

Suddenly, footsteps echoed nearby—like the sound of a pack of wolves. "Oh, it's just you," Azrael muttered, seeing the wolf leader he had formed a pact with the day before.

The wolf leader joyfully greeted his master. "What are your plans for today, Master?" he asked eagerly, like an excited dog.

"I need to kill monsters," Azrael said bluntly, causing the wolf leader to grow nervous.

"M-master, what do you mean by that?" the wolf leader stammered.

"Oh, I didn't mean to say it so seriously. I just need to kill monsters. Do you know where I can find them?" Azrael asked.

"Master, there's a place where you can kill as many as you want," the wolf leader replied.

"What? Kill as many as I want? Where?" Azrael asked, intrigued.

"I'll show you. Follow me," the wolf leader said, leading the way.

Azrael tried to keep up, using his Soul Traversal state to move faster. But when it went on cooldown midway, the wolf leader offered Azrael a ride on his back.

After a while, they reached their destination, where the wolf leader stopped in front of a cave entrance.

"This is the place, Master," the wolf leader said.

Azrael dismounted and asked, "A cave?"

"Yes, Master. Inside, there are so many monsters you can't even imagine!" the wolf leader said proudly.

Before entering the cave, Azrael wanted to create a fire to help him see, but the wolf leader offered his own light magic, which he could emit from his forehead.

Azrael and the wolf leader entered the cave, leaving the normal wolves behind to guard the entrance.

A few meters in, Azrael finally asked, "There's nothing in here?"

"We just need to walk a little farther, Master," the wolf leader replied.

After a short distance, the wolf leader stopped and said, "Master, here we are." Azrael, confused, could only see a wall and darkness ahead.

Suddenly, the wolf leader let out a massive howl that echoed through the cave.

The ground trembled, and everything seemed to shake, like an earthquake.

"Master, here they come. Prepare yourself for battle, and I'll assist you," the wolf leader said.

"Summon!" Azrael commanded, calling upon 20 goblin souls from his inventory.

Azrael watched as his 20 skeletons rushed into the the battle, swords raised. A group of skeletons jumped on the three-headed snake, but it's so fast the three headed snake made it's first struck, its jaws snapping at the skeletons. A group of skeletons charged in, swinging their swords at the snake's thick scales. One skeleton was thrown aside by the snake's whip-like tail, but it quickly got back on its feet and kept attacking. Another skeleton slashed at one of the snake's heads, cutting deep into its scales, but the creature hissed and retaliated with a vicious lunge.

Meanwhile, the tarantulas and scorpions poured from the shadows. A tarantula lunged at one skeleton, its fangs sinking into its chest. The skeleton swung its sword, cutting one of the tarantula's legs, but another spider quickly replaced it. A second skeleton joined the fight, cutting into the spiders side, but more spiders kept coming from the darkness.

The scorpions were no less deadly. One giant scorpion swung its pincers at a skeleton, knocking it back, but the skeleton quickly recovered, grabbing another sword and slashing at the scorpion's legs. The scorpion staggered back, only to be replaced by another one, its pincers snapping. The skeletons kept moving, their swords swinging and slashing as they fought back the endless wave of monsters.
