When the light vanished, what appeared before Ethan was a new form of Eevee with a yellow body covered in lightning-like spikes—Jolteon!
Jolteon had slender limbs and small paws, a white mane around its neck, and spikes as sharp as lightning rods all over its body. Just by looking at it, one could almost feel the vibrant energy and electricity surging within it.
Pushing aside the other curious Pokémon that had gathered around, Ethan quickly pulled out his Pokédex to check Jolteon's information.
Pokédex: "Beep. Jolteon, the Lightning Pokémon. Electric-type. It evolves with a Thunder Stone. When startled, the fur all over its body stands up like needles, intimidating enemies. It specializes in Electric-type moves, can inhale negative ions from the air, and sometimes expels high-voltage electricity of approximately 10,000 volts. It possesses considerable speed, which is why in some places, it is even employed to guard other Pokémon."
"This is great," Ethan said, stroking Jolteon's sharp bristles. He nodded in satisfaction and praised, "Jolteon, your new look is excellent. It really suits you."
Morning.
Ethan left the Sakuragi Institute and slowly made his way into the deep mountains adjacent to Vermilion City, following a winding, uphill road. After walking for a long time, the terrain gradually rose, and the buildings on both sides became scarcer, replaced by increasingly thick and dense trees, and rows of constantly spinning wind turbines standing on the hillsides.
Nestled among the mountains, an old power plant built with red bricks and concrete stood. From its exterior, though moss had long crept into the wall cracks and some windowpanes were shattered, judging by the occasional flashes of electricity on the power lines and the humming sound of equipment running inside, it wasn't completely derelict. There were still occasional staff members who came for minimal equipment maintenance.
Looking around, the place was eerily quiet, save for the rustling of the breeze. There were no strange movements or signs of wild Pokémon activity.
Upon reaching the power plant, Ethan found the main gate closed, secured by a half-rusted padlock. However, a nearby window was half-open, with broken glass scattered on the ground. He looked left and right, confirmed no one else was around, then climbed through the window.
The interior of the power plant was built like a maze. Just like outside, it was unusually quiet, dimly lit by orange emergency lights. Taking out his flashlight, Ethan peeled off the tape. When the flashlight turned on, its beam illuminated the surroundings, finally allowing him to see the power plant's internal structure clearly.
Faint footsteps echoed softly in the corridor. Ethan searched meticulously, but after twisting open the doors to several rooms, he found no special circumstances.
"Did any of you find anything unusual?"
Hearing Ethan's question, Kirlia and the other Pokémon gently shook their heads.
Nothing? Could it really just be aging equipment!?
With that question lingering, Ethan rubbed his chin and instructed, "Well, since we're already here, let's split up and search. We might find something."
However, no sooner had he spoken than he suddenly heard a cry from deep within the power plant. The sound was short and sharp. Although it was only for an instant, he keenly caught it.
That sound…
Ethan cocked his head, listening intently. When no second sound followed, he looked at his Pokémon. They all nodded, clearly having heard the sound as well.
"It sounded like it came from over there. Let's go!"
Leading his Pokémon, Ethan walked quickly, turning left and right, eventually arriving outside a slightly ajar door. Through the gap, he could see sunlight pouring in from the glass roof, illuminating the entire room. The humming of several generators immediately told Ethan that this was the power plant's most crucial section—the main power room.
But what surprised Ethan even more was that, inside the room, a massive, golden bird Pokémon was continuously drawing electricity from one of the generators! Looking at its familiar shape and striking appearance, even though Ethan had seen many Pokémon, his heart still pounded.
It's a legendary Pokémon—Zapdos!!
Zapdos is a very rare legendary Pokémon. Its body is golden-yellow, with numerous spike-like feathers on its wings and tail. Beneath its sharp eyes, it has a long, orange, pointed beak. Because it can control lightning and change the weather, it is often referred to as the "Thunder God"!
What should I do now?
Ethan turned and looked at his Pokémon. Seeing them all watching him, awaiting orders, he couldn't help but clench his fists.
A heaven-sent opportunity. Since I've encountered it, no matter what, I must catch it!
However, with his current Pokémon, catching Zapdos would be no easy feat. Zapdos is an Electric/Flying-type. Ethan currently had no Pokémon that could counter it type-wise. Conversely, Zapdos could deal double damage to his Squirtle.
But no matter how difficult, Ethan didn't want to miss this chance.
"Kirlia, Ivysaur, Jolteon, Squirtle, and Charmander! It's all up to you now. Our opponent this time is an extremely powerful foe. If we try to fight it alone, none of you will be a match for it. So, don't hold back, let's all attack together and defeat it!"
All the Pokémon cried out in unison. Then, the power room door was violently pushed open. Jolteon rushed out first, and behind it, the other Pokémon followed in single file, completely surrounding Zapdos.
Inside the room, Zapdos, which had been replenishing its energy, was furious at being interrupted. And seeing that the annoying intruders were merely a group of unevolved, low-level Pokémon, it grew even more impatient! It roared, flapping its wings, and instantly, a scorching wave of electricity swept outwards. It intended to use its sheer intimidation to drive away these Pokémon that had trespassed on its territory!
Ethan then walked into the power room and loudly shouted at Zapdos, "Zapdos, let's battle to the fullest, staking your freedom!"
Zapdos looked down at Ethan defiantly, seemingly not taking him seriously at all.
"If that's your attitude, then I'll take that as a default acceptance," Ethan pulled out a Poké Ball, tossing it in his hand. "Kirlia, use Magical Leaf! Ivysaur, use Razor Leaf! Charmander, use Ember! Squirtle, use Water Gun! Everyone, attack together!"
As Ethan commanded, various moves instantly rained down on Zapdos from all around. Thus began the great battle to catch Zapdos!
Ethan is about to face a legendary Pokémon, Zapdos, in an intense battle! This is a massive leap in challenge compared to his previous Gym battles. He's decided to go all-out with a coordinated attack from his entire team, recognizing that no single Pokémon of his can stand alone against a legendary.
How do you think this epic battle will unfold? Will Ethan succeed in catching Zapdos, or will the legendary bird prove too powerful?
