"Kirlia, use Magical Leaf!"

Magical Leaves, glowing green, formed in Kirlia's hands and flew continuously toward Sandshrew. Seeing this, Anthony flicked his whip, making a soft 'snap,' and Sandshrew, hearing the sound, spun its claws and burrowed into the ground at incredible speed, avoiding the attack.

Having lost its target, Kirlia stood still, cautiously observing the situation beneath its feet. After a moment, a hole suddenly appeared beside it. Without warning, Sandshrew burst out of the hole, charging directly at Kirlia. Fortunately, Kirlia was vigilant. The moment the ground broke open, it used Teleport to dodge the attack.

"Did you think the attack was over?" Anthony cracked his whip again, shouting, "Sandshrew, let's use our ultimate move! Fissure!"

The Sandshrew, which had just missed its attack, leaped high into the air, its body emitting a fierce earthy-yellow glow. Head-first, with its right claw raised, it spun and rapidly plummeted towards the ground. The next second, accompanied by a tremendous crack, the battle arena violently split open from the center of Sandshrew's claw, shattering into countless pieces! These fissures spread across the entire field, cracking like chasms with terrifying tremors.

Fissure, one of the Ground-type's physical one-hit knockout moves. If a Pokémon accidentally falls into the resulting chasm, the crushing force can inflict full, near-fatal damage on any Pokémon!

Ethan shouted, "Kirlia! Get out of the way, quickly!"

Kirlia used Teleport over a dozen times in succession, disappearing, reappearing, disappearing again, reappearing again, constantly searching for a foothold. Only after consuming most of its stamina did it finally, by sheer luck, move away from the epicenter of the tremor and reach a safe corner.

"What!?" This truly exceeded Anthony's expectations. Although Fissure's accuracy rate was low, one had to remember that, except for flying Pokémon, he had used such a large-scale area attack many times before and had never seen any Pokémon manage to dodge this ultimate move.

On his side, seeing Fissure stop and Kirlia unharmed, Ethan couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. It was a good thing he had the foresight not to send out Bulbasaur or Squirtle for the battle; otherwise, with their slower movement speed, they surely would have been incapacitated by this Fissure.

After expending such immense energy, Sandshrew was also affected by the residual shockwaves, falling into a brief state of sluggishness. Seeing this, Ethan decisively ordered, "Kirlia, use Magical Leaf!"

Kirlia raised its hands. Before Sandshrew could react, Magical Leaves, like a hurricane, swept toward it.

Grass beats Ground, super effective! Sandshrew's body swayed back and forth, eventually unable to hold on. Its eyes rolled back, and it collapsed to the ground.

"Sandshrew!!" Anthony rushed over, quickly embracing Sandshrew's body. Even now, he couldn't believe it—he had actually lost!? He had achieved ninety-two consecutive wins; just eight more, and he could have left here to challenge Gyms! Damn it…

Seeing his victory, Ethan applauded: "A magnificent battle. Your Sandshrew is truly strong, the toughest opponent I've faced on my journey so far!"

Returning Sandshrew to its Poké Ball, Anthony remained silent. When he stood up again, the confidence on his face had already vanished.

"I lost! Defeating my Sandshrew truly exceeded my expectations." Anthony let out a heavy sigh, but quickly recovered his composure. "But even so, I won't give up on my dream. Starting today, I will begin from zero again, guarding this Gym until I achieve one hundred consecutive wins. And after that, I will find you and challenge you once more!"

"I look forward to that day," Ethan extended his right hand, sincerely stating, "It's precisely having powerful opponents like you that motivates me to constantly improve and move forward!"

After parting ways with Anthony, Ethan had originally planned to continue to Pewter City and challenge the Pewter Gym. However, a call from Professor Sakuragi summoned him back to Vermilion City.

At the Sakuragi Institute, Professor Sakuragi said apologetically, "I'm truly sorry for calling you back here so suddenly from such a distance. It's because there's something very important that urgently requires your help."

"No need to be formal, Professor. Please, just tell me what it is," Ethan said casually. "Besides, I was just near Vermilion City; it wasn't a long distance at all. You really don't need to apologize."

Kikuna then took a small box from the side and handed it to Ethan.

Ethan asked, puzzled, "What is this?"

Professor Sakuragi explained, "Inside is a prototype of a precision instrument. Because its development isn't complete yet, it's a scientific secret and cannot be sent via express delivery. And since we cannot leave the institute due to our work, we can only find someone trustworthy to deliver it to Professor Oak's Laboratory and hand it over to Professor Oak."

Ethan nodded solemnly.

"I understand. As a Special Research Fellow of the Sakuragi Institute, I will deliver it safely and soundly into Professor Oak's hands!"

Leaving Vermilion City, Ethan hastened his journey, bypassing the famous Viridian Forest. By nightfall, he found himself in Viridian City. Since it was already late, he decided to rest for the night at the Pokémon Center there, planning to depart for Pallet Town the next day.

However, before entering the Pokémon Center, he first went to a nearby store to replenish some canned food and a few Poké Balls, just in case. While checking out, he received a call from Koharu.

"Hello, Koharu, is something wrong?"

On the other end of the line, Koharu said, "Didn't you send a message this morning saying you were returning to Vermilion City? I wanted to see Kirlia's new look; it must be even prettier now, right?"

"Ah, I'm really sorry," Ethan looked up at the clock on the wall. "But after arriving at the institute this morning, I left almost immediately. I'm already in Viridian City now."

"Viridian City?" Koharu exclaimed in surprise. "How did you get there so quickly?"

"I had some business, so I had to go to Professor Oak's Laboratory. Anyway, I have to go; it's getting late. You should get some rest."

Hanging up the phone, Ethan was about to leave the store when he heard a shop assistant nearby suddenly call out to him.

"Excuse me, young man, please wait."

Ethan looked at him, puzzled: "Is there something I can help you with?"

The shop assistant took a package from the counter.

"I apologize, I overheard your conversation by chance. Are you heading to Professor Oak's Laboratory in Pallet Town?"

Seeing Ethan nod, the assistant happily said, "Ah, that's wonderful! This package was ordered by Professor Oak a few days ago, but we've been too busy to deliver it. Could you please take it with you on your way?"

It seems Ethan's journey to Professor Oak's Lab is turning into quite the delivery service! He's now carrying a mysterious prototype from Professor Sakuragi and a package for Professor Oak.

What do you think will happen when he finally reaches Pallet Town and meets Professor Oak?
