Chapter 55
I woke up naturally.
When I sat up, I saw that it was just past 8 AM.
I turned to wake up Hitomi, who was still sleeping beside me.
“Hitomi, it’s morning.”
“Eh… ah… mm…”
Hitomi, unable to resist the lure of a second sleep, was about to drift off again.
“You are NOT going back to sleep!”
“Whoa!!!”
Kirishima, determined to wake her up, pulled Hitomi out of bed, made her wash her face, and then changed into his usual clothes.
By the time she had finished washing her face, Hitomi seemed to have finally woken up and began getting ready.
Once they were both prepared, Kirishima took Hitomi to the Venetian Macau’s breakfast hall.
“Try the breakfast here and let me know what you think.”
“Leave it to me.”
The two of them sat down and each picked out their preferred breakfast items.
After finishing everything from salad to dessert, Hitomi gave her verdict.
“Honestly, my impression is that I have no impression.
Compared to regular hotels, it’s probably good, but it’s not quite worth the price.
There’s no excitement. I think people come here looking for an extraordinary experience, but this is just… ordinary, for better or worse.”
“I see. Let me call the manager.”
I signaled to a familiar staff member and asked them to bring the highest-ranking person currently on duty in the food and beverage department.
Within minutes, a middle-aged man arrived, slightly out of breath.
“Apologies for the wait. I am Robert, the director of food and beverages.”
“I’m Kirishima, and this is Hitomi Yuuki, who assists me.
We had some thoughts about the food and wanted to discuss them with you.
Hitomi, could you explain?”
Surprised by Akira suddenly switching into work mode, Hitomi nonetheless delivered a more detailed critique to Robert than before.
Robert’s expression grew increasingly serious, and in the end, he bowed in apology to Hitomi.
“I sincerely apologize, Miss Yuuki. I swear on my pride that I will address this issue.
Please give me three months—no, one month.
In one month, I promise you a breakfast experience that will be unrecognizably better.”
Watching Hitomi provide clear and precise feedback, I felt an urge to embrace her.
She was far more talented and remarkable than even she realized.
While I was caught up in my admiration, Hitomi was calmly responding to Robert.
“Thank you for listening so sincerely to someone as inexperienced as me.
I’m looking forward to seeing the changes.”
After Robert left, I turned to Hitomi with gratitude.
“Thank you, Hitomi.
With this, we’ve taken another step closer to the real thing.”
“Well, I just wanted to support your goals, Akira.
I’ll keep pushing you from now on!”
“That’s reassuring!”
With breakfast concluded, the two of them returned to their room, only to find Emma waiting for them, fully dressed in golf attire, including a sun visor and gloves, looking absolutely ready for action.
“I’ve brought some golf wear for you to choose from.
All the equipment is already loaded in the car, so you needn’t worry.”
Before them, Emma displayed an array of high-end golf wear from brands like Lanvin Sport, Pearly Gates, and Ampathy—names even I recognized. I let Hitomi pick my outfit.
After choosing our outfits, Emma led the way to the entrance.
Waiting outside was the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG I had ordered before leaving Macau.
Emma took the driver’s seat.
“I’ll guide us to the Macau Golf & Country Club.
We can’t have our star player getting injured, after all!”
“Ah… thanks.”
I was a little overwhelmed by her enthusiasm.
“Such thoughtfulness, as expected of Emma,” Hitomi praised blindly.
“Thank you, Miss Hitomi.”
Amid lively chatter in the car, we soon arrived at the golf course.
Since it was peak season, the turf was in pristine condition, making it impossible to suppress my excitement.
After parting ways at the entrance, I followed the guide to the locker room to change.
Emma had chosen my outfit size, and disturbingly, it fit me perfectly.
Once fully dressed and prepared, I stepped outside to find Hitomi and Emma already waiting, ready to go.
“I went into the locker room first… how are you two out here before me?”
“Shall we?”
“…Are you just ignoring me now?”
“Akira, a pro knows how to switch gears.”
As we engaged in small talk, my trainer for the day arrived.
“Hello, Mr. Kirishima. Looking forward to today.”
I turned to look at my coach.
I could only sigh in disbelief.
“I’ll be coaching you today. I’m David Blackbetter.”
David Blackbetter—once a major champion, now a teaching professional who had trained numerous players to world champion status.
Top professionals around the world sought his guidance, but he rarely accepted requests.
“It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Blackbetter.
I have to ask, why would someone of your caliber agree to coach a third-rate—no, fifth-rate golfer like me?”
“Well, I find training young players interesting.
Also, I was supposed to coach someone in Macau, but the schedule got canceled.
For me, this was a lucky coincidence.”
“I see…
I am incredibly grateful for this rare opportunity.
I look forward to today’s lesson.”
“Same here.”
We shook hands firmly.
Led by Emma, we boarded a golf cart with Blackbetter and headed to the course.
Looking back, that day was the most golf I had ever played in my life.
From etiquette to tee shots, escaping bunkers, handling rough terrain, reading greens, marking the ball—Blackbetter taught me everything a golfer needed to know.
He later evaluated me with these words:
“He is blessed by luck. There was never a moment where I thought he was just ‘close’ to success.
He’s an all-or-nothing kind of player.
It was fascinating. I thought I knew everything, but he reminded me that there is always more to learn.
His learning speed is remarkable—if I keep training him, he’ll reach top amateur status in no time.”
Of course, neither Hitomi nor Emma relayed Blackbetter’s high praise to me.
As evening fell, we arranged for another session the following day at an indoor training facility.
“Another practice session tomorrow? I can’t wait!”
Though my body was nearly falling apart, the sheer joy of improving by the second overshadowed my exhaustion.
After parting ways with Blackbetter, the three of us returned to the hotel by car.
I barely remember getting into the car—I had already drifted off.
Upon arrival, Hitomi woke me up.
“Akira, we’re home! Wake up!”
“Mmm… oh… home, huh…”
Hitomi dragged me back to the room and had Emma call a massage therapist.
I dozed off during the massage, only to be woken again for a bath before finally going to bed.
This routine continued for about three weeks, and by the end of it, my golf skills had significantly improved.
Even Blackbetter was impressed, saying, “I never expected such growth in less than a month.”
Then, one day, with the city golf tournament approaching—
“Let’s go check out the tournament venue.”
Emma abruptly proposed.
“That’s a great idea, Emma,” Hitomi agreed.
At that point, there was no stopping them.
Emma immediately started making calls.
From what I overheard, she was arranging a flight.
“I’ve booked a flight and secured the golf course. We’ll be in Japan until the tournament.”
As always, her speed of action left me in awe.
