Chapter 109: Trip to Center Battle Administration Area
Rodney drew in a mouthful from his cigar and puffed it out.
He picked up his coffee mug and took a sip from it.
"Also, the reward of $100,000 for this mission must be increased.
"We didn't sign up to become fugitives, fight with Shadow Lotus, and go through Mid and High Tiered demonic beasts to get back," Riley said.
The team wasn't doing charity after all.
They needed the funds to get demonic beast cores and become stronger.
Rodney coughed and quickly covered his mouth, nearly spilling his coffee.
He frowned and glanced over at his secretary.
Vigorously shaking her head, his secretary confirmed his thoughts.
There wasn't much budget left for him.
Giving out a long sigh, Rodney pondered for a moment.
Finally, a thought went through his mind, and he said, "Come with me to the Center Battle Administration.
"I need all of you to be witnesses and testify against Peter Lim to clear your name.
"And at the same time persuade our dear Secretary Hanselman to give me the budget for your rewards."
It was time for him to go to the Center Battle Administration to create a scene.
Rodney would have to take the gamble that the Leader would fix it for him.
Riley glanced over at the other team members, and they shrugged their shoulders.
They knew that Rodney didn't have much choice with what they'd seen on the ground; roads and debris still needed cleaning up, and some of the homeless were still going hungry.
And most importantly, they wanted to clear their names.
Lukas also nodded.
It would be a great opportunity for him to see and learn about how the Center Battle Administration works.
"Since there's no objection to my suggestion, we shall leave in two days' time," Rodney said and glanced over at Dr. Uwe. "I will try to arrange for the research lab when we get back."
Lukas and the others then left his office, leaving Rodney alone.
With his hand hovering above his phone, Rodney hesitated for a moment.
And after a few moments, he made a call to Albert.
...
Lukas and the team members didn't leave the Awakened Center immediately.
Riley and the others went to the merchandise area and purchased all the demonic beast cores they could.
While Lukas went and replenished his grenades and bullets.
"How may I help you?" The attendant who was in the weaponry store said and was startled for a moment.
Lukas recognized her; she was one of his classmates in high school.
"Lukas... nice to meet you," she greeted him with her head low.
She had recalled how they shunned him after Jules Robertson began his persecution of Lukas.
And yet, everything had changed.
Jules Robertson was waiting for his sentence in a jail somewhere, while Lukas was living out a challenging and rich life as an awakened.
Something that they'd dreamed of in high school.
But here she was, stuck in the Awakened Center.
"Hi Adeline," Lukas replied without any emotion and said, "I need grenades for my grenade launchers and bullets for my pistol."
"Yes, come with me," Adeline cleared her mind of all the negative thoughts and brought Lukas to the weapons rack.
Lukas glanced at the grenades and boxes of bullets and said, "I want all of it."
"All of it..." Adeline was surprised at what she heard.
"Yes, all of it," Lukas confirmed.
She quickly packed everything and was astonished that Lukas didn't even flinch when he paid for it all.
All of it totaled $40,000.
An amount that would take her two years to earn.
Yet he spent it in a split second.
That poor Lukas who had to wear the same clothes and work odd jobs to survive was gone now.
"Do you have help to transport these, or do you need us to help you with it? I can arrange something for you," Adeline asked as she didn't see anyone with Lukas.
"No need for that. I can handle it myself."
To her surprise, Lukas picked up a box of bullets and placed it into his Darkmatter Vault Armor.
And soon, one by one, he had stored all the grenades and bullets into his Darkmatter Vault Armor.
Adeline could only look on with envy from behind when Lukas left the weaponry store.
When they got to the lobby, the awakened teams glanced at them with a weird look while they were leaving.
"Should we have a try?" one of the awakened said, and everyone else turned and stared at him.
By now, they knew about the $5 million dollar reward on each of them from the West Battle Administration Area.
However, after witnessing what Lukas could do, like killing off a High Tiered demonic beast easily, all of them weren't dumb enough to want to try.
And on top of that, Lukas and the team fought valiantly, saving many lives during the demonic beast horde attacks.
They would be ashamed of themselves if they did so.
To them, they knew that Lukas and the team had been framed.
...
When Lukas and the other team members got back to their home, it was different for the next two days.
All of them except Lukas spent their time absorbing the essence from the demonic beast cores.
Emma was also busy with it, so he helped with cooking the meals.
Luckily, his days of living alone and cooking for himself helped.
After having their meals, the other team members would get back to what they were doing.
When Lukas woke up the next morning, he had a surprise.
On one side, Riley and Rex were sparring with each other.
But this time, Riley had armor that was made of lightning wrapped around his body.
Rex wielded a whip that was made of sharp and spiky rocks.
Whip.
When the spiky whip hit Riley's lightning armor, it cracked into pieces.
"I give up," Rex raised his hands and said.
On the other side, Emma and Harianto were also sparring.
Emma unleashed a net made up of her poison, and it surrounded Harianto.
The net slowly closed in toward Harianto.
Harianto had full armor made up of mechanical and electronic parts on his body.
Boosters from his feet fired off, and Harianto flew into the air.
Compartments with small rockets rose from his shoulders, and they aimed at Emma.
"Stop. I give up too," Emma shook her hands and shouted at Harianto.
"They are now at Expert Level of Mastery, allowing them to use their abilities in new forms and with more power," Margaret explained and handed Lukas a cup of coffee.
