I Have a Penglai Immortal Island

Chapter 025 – House Construction Begins

The next day, Da Linzi learned about their hot search and became even more enthusiastic about live streaming. They decided to go out to sea every two or three days for a live stream.

While out at sea, Zhao Zhao let the killer whale, Siren, out to attract viewers to the live stream. The whale had become very attached to her. Initially, she encouraged it to find its mother and pod, as killer whales are social animals and she worried it might get depressed without companions. However, Siren became fixated on Poseidon and followed them wherever they went. If it wasn’t around during their return journey, it would find its way back later; the whale had learned the way.

Fans knew that the killer whale would follow them back to the waters off Jinshi Island. Those nearby even rented boats to go whale watching. Now, people around Changshan Island knew about the killer whale that often followed boats, leading to more people renting boats for fishing and sightseeing. The islanders also knew about their live streams, and many visiting tourists mentioned it, providing some promotional effect.

On the day they reached 100,000 followers, they dived in the area where Siren had stranded itself and caught three magnificent lobsters. They held a grand raffle, giving away the largest lobster to a lucky fan.

The two smaller lobsters were sold to Mr. Zhao for 8,000 yuan each, while the largest one fetched over 10,000 yuan, giving their account a brief burst of fame. China indeed lived up to its reputation as a nation of food lovers; a raffle for 10,000 yuan in gold likely wouldn’t have caused such a stir.

The giant lobsters brought in over 30,000 new followers.

They didn’t make money every time they went out to sea. Once, during a nearshore fishing live stream, they had no luck, much to the amusement of the viewers. Da Linzi then started diligently practicing his fishing skills, asking everyone for tips. In reality, it had little to do with technique; the so-called fishing hotspot had very few fish.

Despite this, their account performed well for a month without spending money on promotion or signing with a company.

The backend showed earnings of over 30,000 yuan. Zhao Zhao gave half to Da Linzi, who felt a bit guilty. “I think we should share some with Yaoguang and Gun Gun. More fans come to see them.”

Losing to a dog and a bird was indeed a fact…

Zhao Zhao handed the now larger and rounder Gun Gun to him. “Then repay Brother Gun Gun by giving him a bath!” Brother Gun Gun had made a mess in the backyard, turning the white fur on his legs yellow.

The village committee had already selected the crew, but over the past few days, she still encountered various people asking if she could add someone. She stopped going out for the past two days to avoid the awkwardness of rejecting people.

The Boundless Sea Technique had reached a bottleneck and had been stagnant for a while. Yaoguang mocked her daily, and she was close to losing her patience with it. She needed to focus and spend time improving. There were also a few chief engineers to interview, and construction on the house needed to start soon to avoid delays once the large ship was delivered and they went on long trips. Thinking of all the tasks, she decided to stop live streaming.

Over the past two days, she reviewed quotes from construction companies. The Tang-style house was complex, and the islanders couldn’t handle it. It was better to hire a professional construction company.

While busy, Gun Gun, still wet, rushed past her toward the door. It had grown a bit and developed territorial awareness, becoming a watchdog recently.

Someone must have arrived. Zhao Zhao quickly followed.

At the door stood a woman in her thirties, with a gentle appearance but looking a bit tired. Gun Gun was growling fiercely, ready to pounce if the woman moved.

Zhao Zhao blocked it with her leg, and Da Linzi ran over to greet the visitor, taking the wet dog away.

The woman introduced herself, “You might not know me; I’m Yang Yang’s mother from the back street.” Oh, the mother of that clever little boy who once offered to help weed her backyard in exchange for fruit.

Yang Yang’s mother had a large basket, which she set on the ground upon entering. “I’m here to thank you. Yang Yang’s grandmother used the medicine you gave, and her eyes are much better now. She can see things recently. We came by once when you weren’t home. We don’t have much, so I saved some goose eggs for you. I hope you don’t mind.”

The island had this custom: when someone helped another family, they often repaid with food or goods, especially among close friends, as it felt more heartfelt than a straightforward payment.

Hearing that the whole basket was for her, Zhao Zhao quickly refused, “Sister-in-law, I can’t eat all of these. If the medicine worked, that’s all that matters. Take them back for Yang Yang; it’s really nothing.”

She was actually quite uncomfortable with people she wasn’t familiar with. Yang Yang’s mother wasn’t very talkative either. Hearing Zhao Zhao’s words, she immediately said, “No way. These are from our geese, and they keep well in the fridge. I have other work to do, so I’ll leave now.”

Afraid that Zhao Zhao would return the eggs, she quickly left without even taking the basket.

Zhao Zhao lifted the cover and saw 60 eggs. Farm goose eggs cost 5 yuan each, making these worth 300 yuan, a significant sum for Yang Yang’s family.

When she returned, she looked through the fridge and packed some of her own fish and shrimp into the basket. She didn't pack too much, knowing that for someone who didn't want to seem like they were taking advantage, too much could be a burden.

“No one in his family goes out to sea, so just say these are leftovers from our sales and give them to Yang Yang to eat.” Da Linzi obediently ran the errand, enjoying the task since he liked the little boy and took the fruit platter from the table along with him.

She reviewed her previous work and quotes and selected a construction company called Zhicheng Construction in Chonghai. She scheduled a meeting with the project leader.

This company was known for its prestigious Tang Dynasty-style villa district in Chonghai, which was quite impressive. The entire project, including the landscaping of the courtyards, the covered corridors in the residential courtyard, and the sea-themed wall for the small inn, would cost over ten million. The next day, the company’s boss brought a team over personally.

They finalized the contract details, agreeing to start with the residential building, and Zhao Zhao paid a two million deposit.

The head of the construction company, Mr. Wang, was amazed by the detailed design plans. Every small detail had specific requirements, and he had already concluded that Zhao Zhao was a meticulous and wealthy client willing to spend. Even the beast-face tiles on the roof and the wind chimes had specific demands, not to mention the design of the ridge decorations.

“These design plans must have taken a lot of effort. Which designer in Chonghai did you hire, Miss Zhao? This is a perfect design, and I can't wait to see the final product.”

“I didn’t spend any money on the design. I graduated from the architecture department at Peking University and did it myself.” So don’t try to fool me.

Mr. Wang agreed to have the workers start within three days. This way, the house project would be on track before the Yaoguang's delivery. After that, she wouldn't have to worry about it much; she would only need to handle the payments and inspect the work when necessary.
