Ch 29
The Enchanting Zerg
In the living room, Phoebe was passionately delivering a speech about the importance of romantic love and cherishing beauty for the sake of the Zerg race’s reproduction. Meanwhile, He Yi stared ahead, paying no attention—everything went in one ear and out the other.
At that moment, Zhao quickened his steps and knelt gently in front of He Yi. “Master, I got burned,” he murmured softly, his voice light and slightly rising at the end—like a hook pulling at the heart.
“How did that happen?” He Yi’s pupils contracted as his gaze fixed on the bright red mark on Zhao’s palm. Without hesitation, he clasped Zhao’s hand, channeling his abundant wood-element energy. A few seconds later, he opened his hand again.
The burn was gone. Zhao’s palm looked as smooth and flawless as before.
Zhao was stunned. He had thought through several strategies before coming here, but none of them accounted for this outcome. He had focused on using his core to prevent the wound from healing on its own, only to forget that He Yi’s spiritual energy possessed rare healing abilities.
He Yi met Zhao’s slightly complicated gaze. “How could you be so careless? From now on, you’re not allowed to cook anymore. Just let—”
Before he could finish, Zhao hastily interrupted, “No, it was just an accident. It won’t happen again. Let me cook. Don’t let anyone else…”
Halfway through, Zhao realized he was contradicting his lord and lowered his voice to a whisper. “I’m good at cooking.”
It was unclear whether he was explaining himself or emphasizing his skills.
Even though Zhao spoke quietly, He Yi, with his heightened mental powers, heard every word clearly. His brow furrowed slightly. “What other people? Who’s there? I was talking about letting Xiao Yi cook.”
He glanced briefly at the guests nearby, and realization dawned on him. Smirking, he ruffled Zhao’s soft golden hair, drawing out his words slowly.
“You think I’d want any of them?”
The female Zerg remained silent, tacitly admitting the guess. His soft, fluffy head lowered slightly, revealing the neat swirl at the center of his crown. That golden vortex resembled a swirling galaxy, as if formed from the collision of particles in the depths of a black hole—dreamlike and mesmerizing.
For a moment, He Yi’s gaze was lost in it.
Phoebe gave a light cough, and Joey took the hint. Stepping forward softly, he said, “Your Excellency, though I regret that my appearance doesn’t please you, the other military females here are also excellent. While they may not be on par with General Zhao in rank, their fertility value is high. They will certainly give you adorable Zerg eggs in the near future.”
Zhao’s heart quivered. The phrase “Zerg eggs” from the young Joey felt like a sharp, thin needle stabbing deeply into his chest—bloodless, yet painful and numbing.
Sensing Zhao’s sudden surge of emotion, He Yi’s dark, penetrating eyes narrowed as they locked onto Joey’s delicate, charming face like an arrow. “You’re both noisy and insincere. All I see in your eyes is ambition. Does the ‘Manual of Submissive Behavior for Sub-females’ only teach you how to meddle in the decisions of a male lord?”
Invisible strands of spiritual power slowly spread through the air, tearing it apart like rippling water, carrying a chilling coldness.
“Your so-called admiration is an insult to my integrity.”
“My advice? Crawl back into an egg and get remade.”
This was the first time He Yi used his spiritual power since his evolution. Invisible threads of energy swiftly formed into a precise “net,” capturing the stunned Joey without fail.
Joey froze as an overwhelming pressure crashed down upon him. Though it caused no physical pain, the surrounding air turned ice-cold, making him feel as if every pore in his body was filled with imminent danger. He shivered from head to toe.
This was the pressure of a male—a deadly warning laced with the scent of death.
Joey felt both terrified and regretful. A high-ranking male with such insight into others’ hidden motives was unlike the spoiled and foolish males on their planet. He was far beyond anything Joey could hope to manipulate.
His knees weakened, and he wanted to kneel and beg for mercy. But the dense threads of spiritual power wrapped tightly around him, leaving him unable to move even a finger, like a silkworm trapped in a cocoon.
He Yi’s evolution had further honed his mastery of spiritual energy, allowing him to use the threads with perfect control. None of the surrounding Zergs were harmed, yet they could still sense the overwhelming and terrifying spiritual pressure.
It was a power that struck fear into their hearts.
The moment they felt the threat, the five military females instinctively entered their Zerg-forms. Their eyes glowed red as their bone wings pierced through their azure uniforms, unfurling elegantly from cleverly designed slits at their shoulder blades.
Even Phoebe’s usual lazy demeanor disappeared. He struggled to muster what little spiritual energy he had, resisting as if trying to shake a mighty tree.
“Master.”
Zhao’s soft voice broke the tension.
At once, the terrifying aura around He Yi dissipated. A subtle smile curved his lips. “Lord Phoebe, I must trouble you to take these ‘gifts’ back. And please relay a message to President Howard: I appreciate the thought, but I will not accept the gifts.”
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Phoebe cursed Howard— that smiling fox—up and down in his heart. No wonder Howard had been so cheerful when he took on this errand; it turned out Phoebe had been used as a pawn.
He stood up, his legs trembling slightly, barely managing to regain his composure. “Alright, I’ll take my leave now.”
“Take care. I won’t see you out.”
In the blink of an eye, the guests retreated like a receding tide, leaving the living room quiet once again.
He Yi flicked Zhao’s forehead playfully. “Dear, you have to trust me! I never even thought about wanting anyone else.”
“I get dizzy just riding spaceships, let alone trying to juggle two relationships.”
Wife, I’m innocent!
Zhao’s forehead tingled, as if pecked by something soft. When the male’s nail touched his brow, the golden core nestled deep in Zhao’s mind trembled fiercely.
The aloof and noble demeanor He Yi had built up in Zhao’s heart crumbled in an instant, replaced by a soft and lovable side.
Joy surged from deep within Zhao. He shifted his posture slightly, still half-crouching with his golden hair swaying with the movement. Looking up at He Yi, he said, “I trust you, Master. I’ll always trust you.”
He truly believed in the sincerity of He Yi’s words at that moment. The light in He Yi’s eyes was brilliant, like a solitary lighthouse shining over a vast sea on a dark night—blindingly bright, illuminating the lonely fishing boat in Zhao’s heart.
The warmth in He Yi’s gaze and the sincerity in his voice fostered a growing hope in Zhao’s heart. “But… what if I never want you to be with anyone else? Not ever.”
“Ah Zhao, you underestimate me.”
“Do you think I’m the kind of Zerg who would be unfaithful?”
Zhao shook his golden head gently. “Master treats me so well.” He neither confirmed nor denied it, subtly implying that He Yi’s current sincerity gave him room to change his mind later.
“Hmph, so you don’t believe me!” He Yi, sharp as ever, wasn’t fooled by Zhao’s wordplay and asked, with a sly twist, “Ah Zhao, are you rejecting me?”
“How could you say that, Master?” Zhao blinked his innocent ice-blue eyes.
“Isn’t it true? When you say I treat you well, you’re implying that you fear I’ll treat others well too.”
He Yi leaned down, cupping Zhao’s slightly tilted head with both hands. His gaze locked deeply onto Zhao’s clear eyes, which seemed both distant and transparent. “It’s okay if you don’t believe me now. Time will prove everything.”
“Hmm…”
The male softly rubbed Zhao’s trembling cheek in a gentle caress.
—
Later in the evening, light rain pattered against the windows.
He Yi received hundreds of messages on his communicator from Phoebe. The first was a simple text confirming that the “gifts” had been returned. The rest, however, were all images and videos.
He scrolled quickly through the holographic screen, revealing countless photos and videos of Phoebe traveling with various female Zergs across different planets. There were valleys made entirely of sparkling crystals, mountain peaks filled with strange rock formations and living fossils, and blood-red waterfalls cascading from thousands of meters high…
Oh, is this a honeymoon destination guide?
If he ignored the slightly eye-searing moments of Phoebe and his many female companions, the scenery on these planets was truly breathtaking. Honestly, these places were far more unique and beautiful than anything He Yi, a non-native male Zerg, had managed to find aimlessly browsing the interstellar web.
After thanking Phoebe for his thoughtful suggestions, He Yi selected a few of the most appealing planets and added them to the honeymoon itinerary.
“Master…” The female Zerg’s voice sounded strange.
He Yi instinctively shivered, slowly shifting his gaze away from the screen. When he saw the female standing just a few steps away from the bed, his dark pupils froze slightly.
White. So much white!
The female was dressed in an adorable snow-white bunny onesie. The fuzzy outfit, complete with a hood topped with soft rabbit ears, covered his golden hair entirely. What caught He Yi’s attention the most, however, were the three long, fluffy white tails wagging happily behind him.
A blue-eyed snow rabbit—cute, but…
“W-why are you dressed like that?!” He Yi stammered, his lips trembling in shock.
A little demon! Give me back my wife!
“Master… do you like it?” The female’s voice became even stranger, as if his mouth was stuffed with candy.
“L-like it? I… think so?” He Yi, utterly bewitched by the sight, swallowed hard. After a moment of hesitation, he gave a shaky response, unsure of himself.
The realization hit him like a cold wave: I’m the one responsible for turning a hardened Zerg general into this soft and playful creature! He shuddered violently. Sss… haa…
The female Zerg wobbled closer, his steps unsteady.
Under the glow of the light, his serene face paired with the lively tails behind him created an oddly harmonious scene.
He Yi didn’t even dare to blink. He had underestimated the charm of female Zergs—and, more importantly, the seductive skills of his own partner. It was clear now: finishing his study of *Zerg Psychology* was more urgent than ever.
Things, however, did not go as the female had anticipated.
The elegant and noble male didn’t transform into a wolf and pounce on him immediately.
Instead, as the female neared the bed, He Yi shifted gracefully toward the center and made room for him. Then, with calm composure, he lowered his gaze, summoned the holographic screen again, and opened a notepad. His tone was indifferent as he said, “Perfect timing. Come take a look at the honeymoon destinations I picked and see if anything needs to be added.”
For a moment, the female felt deflated by He Yi’s mood-killing words. Still, he obediently sat beside him and carefully reviewed the draft of the honeymoon plan.
After a while…
“You want to visit Pink Dusk Planet?” the female asked in surprise.
