I Created Scientific Magic

Chapter 670: The Extinguished Sun

We would build cities on distant stars, turn basins into oceans, and deserts into oases...

Knowledge was our power, courage was our beacon, we performed miracles named Magic, aiming to create a paradise for Wizards in fifty years...

...

Accompanied by a huge starship coursing through the horizon, a melodious song reverberated ceaselessly above the skies of Boulder Star.

This song, born in the era of grand construction, had become the latest trend, spreading throughout the five planets and seven moons of the galaxy.

However, the lyrics mentioned fifty years, but in reality, they had spent sixty-seven years in the Sea of Quanta!

Few knew why they delayed their return to the grand universe.

Harrov, Aurora, and Vittorio, who were in charge of maintaining the protective shield, had been struggling to cope. In the fifty-fold flow of time, the divine realm in the grand universe could hardly sustain such enormous consumption.

Fortunately, during these sixty-seven years, two new Star Gods—Anthony and Boulder—were born, and with their addition, they managed to sustain it successfully, even allowing for some rotation and rest.

The new generation born during the great construction era had even come to accept only four stars, one moon, and one exceedingly bright Sun in their sky.

Over these sixty-seven years, the remaining four barren planets in the galaxy had been fully developed, and huge city clusters had been established, just as the song had described.

At this very moment, sixty-five million kilometers from the Sun, within the towering buildings of Wizard Star, there was a surge of people, where a dozen children gathered in an alleyway, listening to an old itinerant bard recount tales of the past...

These children did not know the bard's name or where he lived, but they understood the legendary adventures he recounted were incredibly captivating.

Although these histories were also recorded in the magic network, those cold texts could hardly compare to a vivid, live commentary.

Especially the tales of the Magic Star, which they never tired of hearing multiple times.

However, today the itinerant bard wasn't telling the thrilling adventures of Wizards but an older story that took place before the wizards liberated the continent, involving incidents that occurred in empires.

That story was not thrilling, it spoke of the nobles' contempt, the church's indifference, and the commoners' suffering.

"You mean to say that in the past only nobles could eat meat? People like us could only eat bread? Hmm, and maybe some stewed beans and wild vegetables?" The tallest child said incredulously, believing that if one had to eat only these things every day, it would definitely become very bland...

"To be precise, it was black bread, which was harder than stone, sometimes mixed with sawdust and straw, chewing it felt like gnawing on a piece of bark…" the bard's voice was very low, yet very clear to hear.

The group of children looked at each other, finding it hard to imagine what bread harder than stone looked like, as the bread they bought was always soft and fluffy, like clouds in the sky.

"Who would make bread with bark and straw, that would surely not sell," the tall child retorted, feeling certain the old man in front of him was fooling him. "And how would you know what black bread tastes like if it's like bark?"

"Because I have eaten it..." the bard began. "I've eaten both black bread and bark!"

"That kind of bread, even with water, is very hard to swallow, but it fills the stomach, allows one to survive... During famines, one had to chew on bark, eat fern roots, soil, or even... people." The bard said earnestly.

The children were terrified, rendered speechless, unable to imagine such hellish scenes.

The bard suddenly changed his solemn expression and smiled, "So, be thankful, for you were born in a good era."

The heavy pressure in their hearts vanished instantly. The children looked at the old man before them with strange gazes, guessing his identity. According to the records on the Magic Network, the church's rule over the continent had ended almost a century ago.

Just as they were pondering this, a large group of guards rushed over and surrounded the area.

The dozen children who had just breathed a sigh of relief suddenly became tense again. Could this man possibly be a fugitive?

However, this conjecture was interrupted the next second.

"Speaker Your Excellency, it is a message from the Supreme Council, asking you to proceed to the Fourth Home!" the leading captain said respectfully.

"I understand!" the bard nodded, glanced at the bewildered children, and then transformed into a beam of light and vanished before everyone's eyes.

"He... could he possibly be..." the tallest child suddenly thought of something and stuttered, unable to speak.

"Indeed, that is Speaker Boulder, the sixth Star God of the Council, the ruler of this planet beneath our feet!" the leading captain said with a smile.

As for the bard being the other party's personal interest or hobby, or perhaps a reminiscence of the past, rumors had it that the bard was the Speaker's profession before he became a Wizard...

While the group of children was shocked that Speaker Boulder had been telling them stories, Boulder had already flown to his destination.

The so-called Fourth Home is the fourth planet in the stellar orbit. Ten years ago, Sanchez won the seventh divine ascension based on a major biological paper, defeating many competitors. By now, it should be about time, and probably another deity is about to be born in this star system!

When Boulder arrived at the planet, others had also reached there.

It seemed he was one step late, the ascension ceremony was already over, but still, Boulder shook his head and stepped forward to offer his congratulations.

"Congratulations, Speaker Sanchez. May I know what divine office it is this time?"

Just as Sanchez was about to reply joyfully at his breakthrough, he was interrupted by a sudden transformation; the light around them had vanished.

It was clearly daytime on the planet, and moreover, it was noon, the time when light was most plentiful. As the planetary ruler, Sanchez knew very well they were facing towards the Sun.

But now... the light had disappeared!

Then it could only mean...

Several Star Gods abruptly turned their heads to look at the Sun, but that billion-year-old constant star in the universe had completely vanished from sight.

The Sun... had it extinguished?

This thought flashed through Boulder's mind, but the next second, a light a thousand times more intense than usual burst forth!

"Quick, stop it!" Harrov shouted in horror, such terrifying rays, if they reached the planets, could hardly be blocked by their defenses.

Even a tiny leak could cause horrific destruction…
