Chapter 488 Reaper Han Yu
"It's raining again?"
Yan Junze looked up at the sky. Overhead, it was gloomy and slightly dim, with a light drizzle steadily falling.
On days like this, the rain wouldn't stop anytime soon.
At the moment, Yan Junze was standing behind a bus stop. Pedestrians hurried by, holding umbrellas as they passed him.
Yan Junze stepped back two paces, taking cover inside the bus stop.
"Is this the Reaper Han Yu's residence?"
He glanced around. Across the street from the bus stop was a five-story building. The ground floor housed a shop that sold flour, grains, and other food items. Right now, a window on the third floor of the building was open.
A tall, thin figure was standing inside the window, silently staring at the rain, observing the pedestrians coming and going in the street.
Not long after, the tall man seemed to sense something. His gaze shifted, landing on the bus stop across the street—and on Yan Junze.
Yan Junze offered him a smile, checked to see that there were no cars passing on the street at the moment, and started walking toward the building.
That tall man was none other than Reaper Han Yu. When he saw that Yan Junze was clearly heading toward him, his eyes narrowed slightly. He simply stared at Yan Junze, showing no other reaction.
As Yan Junze reached the middle of the road, he suddenly heard a buzzing in his ears, as though overcome by tinnitus. In an instant, all sound vanished.
His movements froze. The ear-ringing sensation was accompanied by constraints on his actions, making even simple movements, like raising a hand, egregiously sluggish.
The raindrops falling around him appeared in Yan Junze's eyes as though slowed down—each droplet descending in slow motion before his gaze.
Beep-beep—
Out of nowhere, a car appeared from the direction to his right. Its lights flashed while it honked twice aggressively, speeding toward Yan Junze.
Yan Junze couldn't hear the car horn at all. He only realized the danger through the flashing headlights. It was clear now: he had fallen into Han Yu's Silent Magnetic Field—a domain unique to the Reaper. His movements were restricted, fully under Han Yu's control.
Although it seemed to Yan Junze that everything around him had slowed, the truth was that the outside world continued to operate normally. The slowed perception was solely a result of the Silent Magnetic Field.
At this moment, there was only one thing he could do—to summon the special emblem of an appointed exorcist from his pocket, with all his strength.
The instant the emblem emerged, all the eerie silence dissipated. An overwhelming flood of sound crashed into his ears—including the ferocious and persistent honking of the oncoming car.
Yan Junze took a fierce step forward. A second later, the car roared past his back, followed immediately by screeching brakes.
A door to the shop beside the building had already opened. Yan Junze, still shaken, quickly went inside, paying no attention to the curses shouted by the driver outside.
The Reaper Han Yu's power was indeed far stronger than Morrison's. Even when manifesting as an avatar, Han Yu's Silent Magnetic Field had been enough to suppress Morrison's full form.
Although Morrison's eventual death hadn't been directly caused by Han Yu's avatar, it was undeniable that the avatar had triggered the black venom inside Morrison's body.
Had Han Yu confronted Morrison with his true form instead of an avatar, Yan Junze was confident that Han Yu could have slain him with complete certainty.
By comparison, the Reaper Kurosawa Tsuyoshi of Great Capital Japan was weaker than Morrison, and certainly no match for Han Yu.
Ascending to the third floor via the staircase, Yan Junze found a room door already open. However, no one stood at the entryway.
Yan Junze stepped directly into the room, and there Han Yu stood. He was still by the same window as before, staring out at the rain, his back turned to Yan Junze.
"Mister Reaper, greetings!" Yan Junze did not approach further, stopping a distance of five or six meters behind Han Yu.
"It wasn't until you brought out the special emblem earlier that I suddenly realized Zhang Chengjing had mentioned you before." Han Yu's voice rang out.
His voice sounded ordinary, as if that of a young man. It carried the tone of someone perpetually cooped up indoors, untouched by the rough winds or rain of the outside world.
"Apologies for my abrupt appearance, suddenly rushing here to find you." Yan Junze said with an apologetic smile.
Han Yu turned his head slightly and asked, "Was it Zhang Chengjing who sent you here?"
"No," Yan Junze shook his head. "I came specifically to inform you: the Claudia IX Demon Hunting Group, Iron Blood Demon Hunter Group, and Payne Cross Demon Hunters Group of Olay Great Capital are conspiring to massacre all Reapers and higher-ranking exorcists within other organizations."
"What?" Han Yu's brow furrowed slightly.
"They've already killed Reaper Valerie Walker of the Half Moon Association in Great Capital USA." Yan Junze explained, "Using the Book of Change to summon the True Word Demon Sylvanus, they used the True Word Barrier to kill her remotely."
Han Yu remained silent, but his frown deepened.
"Please believe me, Han Yu. My information source is highly reliable," Yan Junze added. "It could be now, it could be tomorrow—sooner or later, the immensely powerful True Word Barrier will target you, no matter whether you're in Tianmeng or Olay, home or street."
"Does Zhang Chengjing know about this?" Han Yu asked. He had always trusted Zhang Chengjing. If not for Zhang potentially considering Yan Junze as a future son-in-law, Han Yu wouldn't have let him upstairs.
"He might lack certain details, but he has definitely received word of Valerie Walker's demise," Yan Junze nodded.
After a pause, seeing that Han Yu still hadn't spoken, Yan Junze asked, "It can't be delayed anymore. Mister Reaper, do you have any means to temporarily evade the True Word Demon's barrier attack?"
Han Yu shook his head. "I don't know how it will target me. How can I defend against it?"
