I Became Robin?! (Honkai Star Rail)

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Two Shapeshifters of Qingcheng

The white-haired Cat Girl mentally calculated that even though they had moved swiftly, two days and nights should have been more than enough time for the Killer to reach the midpoint of their plan. How could so many survivors still be alive?

Then she saw Robin emerge from the hot pot restaurant. "The Qingcheng Bureau of Anomalous Investigations? You're finally here!"

"Who are you?" The Cat Girl's eyes narrowed as she took in Robin's appearance, specifically the wings behind her ears and the halo above her head. She tensed, like a startled kitten with its fur on end.

"Robin?! So that's why you've been skipping your streams these past few days—you were trapped here?" Another voice chimed in. Robin glanced past the Cat Girl to the three other people present. They were busy scanning their surroundings in silence.

"Hey! What are you looking at? I'm right here! Look down! Look down!"

Robin lowered her gaze and finally noticed a black cat prowling at the Cat Girl's feet. It looked like any ordinary feline, except for one peculiar detail: it could talk.

Clearly, this Black Cat was highly likely a Transformer. As Robin considered this, she produced her official identification and began to explain the situation inside the Veil in detail.

From the moment people began disappearing from the bakery to the human's deduction of the killer's identity, everyone had banded together and acted in unison until now.

Hearing this, the Cat Girl clicked her tongue in disbelief. "Seriously? That's insane! You managed to deduce all that?"

After a moment's pause, she sighed. "This Dimensional Rift Incident dragging you in might be the luckiest thing that could have happened to everyone trapped here."

It was no exaggeration to say that while Robin lacked combat prowess, her ability proved far more valuable than brute force during this crisis.

Ultimately, even the strongest fighter would still need to identify the killer in such a situation. As the search dragged on, casualties would inevitably mount. By the time the culprit was found, countless lives might already be lost.

Even if someone with overwhelming strength could instantly eliminate the exposed killer, those already murdered could never be revived. Robin, however, had nipped the killer's rampage in the bud, rendering them powerless to act.

"Honestly, none of us could have handled this better, even if we had stumbled upon it ourselves. We're truly grateful!" The white-haired Cat Girl bowed slightly, her voice filled with sincere appreciation.

"But still, four people died..."

The Cat Girl cut Robin off. "Don't think like that. Focus on the hundred-plus lives you saved, not the four you couldn't. No one can save everyone. You've already done an incredible job."

"Exactly!" This time, the Black Cat chimed in. It had somehow scurried to Robin's feet and was rubbing against her pant leg. When she glanced down, the cat tilted its head, its bright, wide eyes gazing up at her with irresistible cuteness.

It was the epitome of feline charm. Though Robin wasn't strictly a dog or cat person, she instinctively wanted to kneel down and pet the adorable creature.

Just then, the Black Cat leaped into the air, aiming to land in Robin's arms. But it was intercepted mid-air. The Cat Girl grabbed the cat by the scruff of its neck, her voice exasperated. "Don't be fooled by his cuteness. Every single one of his adorable antics is just a ploy to take advantage of girls. Be careful—he's a total pervert."

"Holy shit!" The Black Cat instantly dropped its cutesy act, flailing its paws wildly and cursing, "Liang Haikun, are you out of your mind? That's Robin! I was about to succeed! You son of a bitch!"

Robin's expression froze, her face a mask of bewilderment. "???"

The white-haired Cat Girl, identified as Liang Haikun, explained, "As you can see, this one's a Transformer. He used to be a man, but now he's a cute little female cat."

"I don't even have that ability anymore! Can't you even let me have this one mental satisfaction? How dare you deprive me of a cat's most basic right?!" The Black Cat continued to rant, "You flat-chested bitch, let me go!"

Robin noticed that the white-haired Cat Girl's chest wasn't actually flat. While not particularly large, it certainly wasn't "flat-chested" either.

Sensing Robin's confusion, Liang Haikun added, "Actually, I'm a Transformer too, and this guy's roommate. Also, I'm not a real Cat Girl—I'm a Witch. I just dress like this to make him feel a little better about himself."

As she spoke, Liang Haikun removed her cat ears in front of Robin and then reattached them.

Unsurprisingly, Robin, already somewhat bewildered, was now completely dumbfounded.

What?

What the hell is going on?

Huh?

The sheer amount of information momentarily overloaded Robin's brain, and it took her a while to process everything.

Soon, however, they returned to the main topic. Robin asked, "So, why is the killer slaughtering the others? Were they brainwashed, or are they just natural-born sociopaths?"

Liang Haikun replied, "Neither. It's simply about power, about temptation, and nothing more."

She then elaborated on Robin's earlier account, supplementing it with information gleaned from the previous Dimensional Rift Incident.

Robin stared blankly. "Killing makes you stronger? That's all there is to it?"

"Yes. That's all there is to it," Liang Haikun said, a hint of bitterness creeping into her expression. "This Dimensional Rift didn't unleash monsters or viruses. Instead, it locked down an area and granted one person within it the opportunity to grow stronger, thus driving humanity to slaughter itself. Isn't that bitterly ironic?"

This is the opportunity every netizen envies—the chance to become an Evolver!

For instance, Qin Chuming went so far as to deliberately create a Dimensional Rift and release the Fancheng Virus on the streets, all in his desperate attempt to become an Evolver. If we threw him into this Veil and gave him a chance, he'd probably die of excitement, wouldn't he?

Robin was at a loss for words. Meanwhile, the ordinary people in the hot pot restaurant and supermarket had gradually noticed the commotion outside. After the police confirmed there was no immediate danger of a fight breaking out, they surged into the street to begin evacuating the civilians.

Liang Haikun said, "These people will be taken back to headquarters for processing until we catch the real culprit."

By noon, Robin found herself at the Qingcheng Bureau of Anomalous Investigations, accompanying the investigation team. As a firsthand witness to the Dimensional Rift Incident, she was required to file a report. She had always loathed writing such documents, both in her past life and now, but duty compelled her. The inescapable task only added to her frustration.

"Sigh..." Robin sighed helplessly, the white wings behind her ears drooping involuntarily in response to her dispirited mood.
