Empty District.

This was an abandoned city in the wilderness and served as the base for the Ninja Cat Clan. To ensure Neji's injuries could heal well, Sasuke brought him to this familiar place.

Not long after they entered the underground passage, two ninja cats in kimonos gracefully jumped down to the ground, meowing as they gathered around.

"Who are you?" A white ninja cat resembling a small tiger sat on the ground, looking up at Sasuke. "Oh, I remember! You're Sasuke-meow!"

"Sasuke?" Another multi-colored ninja cat, seemingly more composed, added, "Child of Uchiha, are you here to see Granny Cat?"

"Yes," Sasuke said, crouching down and pulling two small bottles out of his ninja pouch, placing them before the two cats. "It's been a while, Hina, Taka."

Hina quickly hugged one of the bottles with her forepaws, sniffed it, and immediately warmed up to him. "Meow! My favorite Matatabi drink! Thank you, Sasuke-meow!"

"Follow us," Taka also picked up her bottle and turned to lead the way deeper into the ruins.

"Let's go," Sasuke said, signaling to Neji, and they followed the ninja cats.

The manager of the Ninja Cat Clan, Granny Cat, was an old lady wearing cat-ear accessories. As soon as she saw Sasuke, she came forward to greet him.

"This is a rare guest," she said, looking Sasuke up and down. "It's been a while, Sasuke."

"Good to see you again, Granny Cat," Sasuke replied with a slight bow. "I'm afraid I have to trouble you this time."

"No trouble at all," Granny Cat said, holding her smoking pipe as she sat back on a large cushion surrounded by a group of cats.

"This is the store manager, Granny Cat. And this is Hyuga Neji," Sasuke introduced them.

"Hello, sorry for the intrusion," Neji also bowed politely.

"Hello, so you're a child of the Hyuga Clan," Granny Cat said, taking a puff from her pipe, then turned to Sasuke. "What do you need, Sasuke?"

"Besides replenishing some ninja tools and other items, Neji is injured, and we would like to stay here to rest for a while."

"Hmm…" Granny Cat exhaled a puff of smoke. "Understood. Let my granddaughter take care of you both. Hina!"

"Coming!" A young girl with long hair ran out from a nearby storeroom. "Granny, did you call me?"

Granny Cat spoke warmly. "These two young men need to rest here for a while. Granny is getting old, so you'll be responsible for looking after them."

"Yes, Granny."

Hina turned to the two boys standing in the room, smiling as she greeted them, "Hello, my name is Hina."

"Uchiha Sasuke," Sasuke nodded.

Neji adhered to formal etiquette, "Nice to meet you, I am Hyuga Neji. Thank you for your assistance, Miss Hina."

Hina blushed slightly at the sight of the two handsome boys, quickly turning to hide her embarrassment as she led the way outside.

"Come with me, and I'll show you to a room where you can rest."

Sasuke and Neji bowed to Granny Cat before following Hina.

The three of them walked down the dim, winding underground passage in silence.

The passage was quiet, with only their footsteps and distant meows echoing from afar.

"Ah, here it is!" Hina said, pushing open a door after turning a corner. "I remember there are some candles in here for lighting. Rest here for now; I'll bring over some bedding later."

"Thank you."

Sasuke nodded and stepped into the room first, lighting a small orange flame at his fingertips.

He flicked it casually, and the flame split into several parts mid-air, landing on the room's candle holders. The warm candlelight filled the once dim room with brightness.

Neji and Hina entered the room, thanked her, and shut the door behind them.

"Take a seat," Sasuke said, casually sitting cross-legged on the ground, unfastening his sword and ninja pouch, and setting them aside.

Neji grabbed a cushion from the corner of the room and sat formally.

"How's your injury healing?" Sasuke asked, checking the contents of his ninja pouch.

"Not bad. Your medicine is quite effective. In another week, my bones should be fully healed."

Neji answered absently, lowering his gaze, deep in thought.

"That's good. I'd like to get moving as soon as possible." Sasuke glanced at him. "What's on your mind?"

"Nothing," Neji replied, somewhat dismissively.

"Hmph, I know what you're thinking."

Sasuke lined up his kunai and shuriken on the ground, organizing their quantity.

Looking up at Neji, he said, "Just a reminder—since you've already made a choice, don't regret it."

"I won't regret it!" Neji replied, meeting Sasuke's gaze fearlessly.

"Then what are you thinking about?" Sasuke resumed organizing his ninja tools.

It took Neji a while to respond, "I didn't interact much with my clan before, but now I realize my actions will likely ignite the tension between the Main and Branch Families."

Sasuke merely scoffed at his words.

"Why are you laughing?" Neji asked, frowning at him.

"I'm laughing because you're still too soft-hearted," Sasuke replied calmly. "If you intend to reform the deeply rooted system of the Hyuga Clan, did you expect the family to peacefully endure the change?"

"I'm not that naïve!" Neji quickly denied it.

Sasuke shook his head. "Then stop overthinking. Reformation is bound to come with sacrifices."

"I understand." Neji looked down at his hands. "You're right; I need to rid myself of this weakness."

"Hmph, in the end, you'll need to sacrifice even yourself," Sasuke reminded him, "because regardless of the outcome, you can never return to the Hyuga."

Neji, however, smiled. "If I can accomplish my goal, then it's worth it."

"By the way, have you thought about the consequences of removing the Caged Bird Seal?" Sasuke suddenly looked directly into Neji's eyes. "After all, in the ninja world, many people covet the Byakugan. Removing it might put the weaker members of the Hyuga in danger."

Neji frowned even more. "The Uchiha never had the Caged Bird Seal!"

"Hmph, the Sharingan and Byakugan are different," Sasuke said proudly, lifting his chin. "If someone transplants a Sharingan, they're cursed by its power, which drives them mad."

"Ha, but Kakashi is fine, isn't he?" Neji was skeptical.

Sasuke explained, "I looked into it. Kakashi's eye was given to him willingly by his teammate."

"Willingly? So, there's no curse if the original owner consents?" Neji found Sasuke's explanation far-fetched. "That's a bit mystical."

"There's a reasonable explanation," Sasuke said.

He recalled that Kaito had once discussed this topic with him. In simple terms, the Sharingan was Yin Release, or the application of spiritual energy. If an eye isn't given willingly, it carries the original owner's intense pain and hatred.

In other words, that negative spiritual energy, transferred through the visual nerves, affects the brain, resulting in madness.

Sasuke explained it all in detail, leaving Neji somewhat amazed.

This guy sure knew a lot.

Neji found himself admiring Sasuke's knowledge.

Sasuke smirked with a hint of pride.

Yet the problem remained unsolved.

Neji could only sigh, "Maybe that's the price of freedom."

However, he was unwilling to give up.

Feeling good, Sasuke offered, "About that issue, let me show you a path forward."
