Chapter 39. The Change in Relationship
“Here, open your mouth.”
I opened my mouth, allowing the spoonful of soup inside. And I gobbled it down, eating it all down happily.
“Is it good?”
Looking a little anxious, Miria asked me about her handmade soup. She was concerned whether I'd find it to my liking. Cute!
Truthfully, the soup isn’t that amazing. But it’s still better than the food I am eating these days. Though this event was an easy way to gain points, I still replied with my heartfelt praise.
“It’s good. I have never eaten any other soup much better than yours. Thanks for it, Miria.”
“R-Really?”
A smile bloomed on her face, but she couldn’t help but ask again. Being a demon hunter, she was worried whether her womanly charms could make Kurt fall for her. That’s why she tried to cook and earn some affection from him. Unknown to her, Kurt is drooling over her sexy figure.
“Of course. I never lie.”
With no hesitation, I praised her soup. And in return, a shy smile bloomed on her face. The anxiousness vanished, and Miria took up the bowl and started to feed me more actively.
“Take one more spoon.”
“O-okay.”
‘Why is she that proactive?’
One more spoon was all right. But Miria didn’t stop and pushed me for one more. And before I knew it, she shoved for more soup than I could eat.
“W-Wait…”
If I eat, no, if I even smell the soup, I doubt my stomach can handle it.
“Huh? Shouldn't you eat more?”
“N-No, I am full!”
I have to be more careful handling her enthusiastic nature.
“I have to rest a bit more for the recovery. Sorry, Miria. It seems I can't eat anymore.”
“Alright.”
She seemed a bit saddened that she couldn't feed me more, but she understood and stopped. Taking this chance, I asked her about the confession I wanted to talk about.
“Miria, about that confessi—”
“I-I have to wash the dishes!”
Her behaviour took a 180-degree turn, and she cut me off in the middle and rushed out, clearly avoiding the topic. While I was a bit disappointed, I also released a sigh of relief. Such contradictory emotions!
“If Miria didn't stop, God knows what would have happened to me.”
For the first time in history, I would be the first reincarnator to die in his reincarnated world after being choked with soup.
“But… Why the hell is she avoiding the topic?!”
As an innate shy guy, I waited a bit, wanting her to make some moves on me. But my patience ran out. And I went to active mode. I went on to talk about that filmy confession in the middle of the life-death battle, but she avoided it for some reason.
“Though, she jumped on me, cracking several ribs when she found me awake.”
The first time she saw me coming out from my short-lived coma, she went to jump on me with tears on her face. Knowing her feelings, I let her hug as much as she wanted, enduring that strength of hers which cracked several ribs of mine, resulting in taking more than the initial time for recovery.
“Still, why is she avoiding me? Didn't I confess to her as well?”
In truth, I was very embarrassed. After all, I said whatever that was in mind. Remembering it, I can’t believe that guy was me. It was cringe as hell but…
“It was cool.”
Enough about my cool moments. I need to brainstorm more to find out more about her reasons for avoidance.
“Is she also embarrassed? No, it seems like she is confused.”
Even though I never dated anyone, don’t forget my experiences. I was a bonafide otaku. And in anime, there is a genre called romance. With all those experiences, it is not difficult to deduce it.
Heh! There is only one truth.
“But confused?”
To be honest, I understand her problem. We were partners in demon hunting where things were comfortable. But after experiencing all those events together and the last end confession, things have changed. From partners to lovers, the transition is too fast.
Sigh!
The relationship has progressed, but neither she nor I have any idea how to lead it. But…
“I can't ignore it.”
Being bedridden for multiple days, my mental state is becoming unstable. And all this credit goes to Oliver.
“All these lazy days have washed away all joy of victory.”
I won against him, and all that was because of luck. And even that came at the cost of death. At the moment, I was drowning in pleasure, but all that have vanished during these days of laziness.
“That guy would become stronger than his original one.”
A human almost killed him… That would make him furious. And he would direct all that to increase his strength. That guy has an incredible superiority complex. For devils, their power comes from negative emotions. And knowing that, I can't afford to lie down.
With that much desperation, I should be out of bed and take up my incomplete research, working on ways to make me strong. But all that desperation is overshadowed by one thing.
“Massage Appointment!”
Knowing something like that exists just a moment away, I can’t find myself in focus. I fought against Oliver just for this reward! And after finding myself in the perfect time, place and moment, how could I let it go?
“I need that reward of mine as fast as possible.”
