Chapter 301: Knowledge from Earth
Eryndor decided to enter.
Employing Shadowstep and Cloudstride to his maximum capacity, Eryndor ignored all the disciples who couldn't enter and swooshed in at the last moment before the gate closed.
The disciples who were so seriously injured and couldn't even move despite the healing pills only saw a brief flash of a figure pass through them before the door closed.
They didn't even have enough strength or the leisure to talk, else they would've definitely asked and confirmed with each other about a single thing.
Did someone pass by?
The disciples looked at each other in confusion for a brief moment before pain overwhelmed their ability to think once again.
As soon as he was inside, Eryndor immediately felt a difference in the air.
No, not air.
He thought, feeling the feedback from his passive cultivation.
The Qi is denser here.
This is definitely not the aftereffect of Sky Reaching Bamboos.
Eryndor had partly entered this place because it did not look like the deadly space destabilization or space cutting side effect of those bamboos.
It also didn't resemble any of the oddities mentioned in the information package provided by the black market.
It could mean three things.
One, that it wasn't unusual enough for the black market to categorise it in the information package provided to him.
Two, the black market didn't want to include this in their information package for some reason.
Third, it was something which even slipped past the attention of the black market.
Personally, Eryndor was leaning towards the third option.
Well, it's not like me to jump into unknown things like this.
It must be because my willingness to take risks to grow myself has increased recently that I entered without thinking much.
Perhaps because he had entered in the end that he couldn't see anyone around him.
Did they move away so quickly?
Did they move deeper?
Eryndor glanced around.
The door behind him had disappeared as soon as he entered, and he was currently in a wide clearing.
Surrounding the clearing was a forest on three sides, and a flowing river on one side.
Suddenly, his gaze froze.
Taking slow, steady steps, he approached a tree.
A Whisperleaf Vine was coiled around that tree.
Why was he shocked? Because it was a plant which came under the Spiritual energy based power systems, which were Mentalist power system and Cyborg power system.
Yes, different fauna were useful for different things and power systems depending on their natural affinity. However, it wasn't a rigid rule.
For example a Silver Fern plant.
Majority of the time, it would conduct Qi through its body, making it suitable to use it in Qi based pills.
However, there had also been several instances where the Silver Fern plant was shown to conduct the other three energies.
The same was the case with ores, metals, and other things.
Some types showed a clear affinity in which energy they conducted, but once in a while, some sample would be found conducting a different energy from the norm.
Despite them conducting those energies however, they were still classified according to the power system of anomalies.
The one in charge of naming, Dr. Kirchoff, when asked about this, simply said.
"It's tedious to explain."
Eryndor came near, and gently harvested the vine.
It was a delicate climbing vine with slender, silvery-green leaves shaped like elongated teardrops.
Each leaf had faint, vein-like patterns that shimmered faintly when he turned them in different directions.
Isn't this the Cultivation world?
How is a vine known to conduct Spiritual Energy here?
Eryndor checked if the vine was conducting Qi.
Nope, it really was Spiritual Energy.
The other disciples naturally have no idea that they missed such a treasure because they never had any knowledge regarding this.
This was the difference between Eryndor and them.
He had the knowledge of alchemy of all power systems, while the ones here in the Cultivation world only knew about the Qi flora.
He called Whisperleaf Vine a treasure because it was a main ingredient in a pill which could give a massive boost in Spiritual Energy to the user.
It was similar to the Pure Qi pill, but just a level about it, and easier to absorb.
Do I wait to learn more alchemy knowledge before attempting to make a pill out of it?
He immediately shook his head.
There was no guarantee that the alchemy knowledge of the Cultivation world could allow him to concoct a pill from the Mentalist power system.
Might as well use it later in its raw form.
Majority of the things which could be used as a main material could be used in their raw form as well, just that their efficiency would be lowered.
He hid the vine on him and continued walking ahead.
Fortunately, it seemed that there was no other obstacle to his Spatial Sight, as he could immediately spread it wide and far.
Within a second, he found where the group of disciples were.
Unlike his current surroundings, they were on a rocky expanse, a rather broken terrain and were fighting two huge beasts.
Eryndor recognised them as Nightfang Stalkers. Each beast was the size of a small elephant, with tough obsidian-black hides, glowing crimson eyes, and massive, bone-crushing jaws.
From his knowledge of them, he already knew what their abilities were: the first, Rubble Roar, caused localized seismic disruptions, while the second, Shadow Warp, allowed it to phase short distances through solid matter, including earth.
They were one of the strongest species found by humanity on Earth.
Where in other species of beasts, a single one among them would awaken an ability, in these species, the awakened ones could obtain two abilities at some times.
From the looks of it, both of the Nightfang Stalkers had both abilities.
The problem? This knowledge of his was obtained from Earth.
As far as he knew, there was no mention of such a beast here in the Training Camp or in the memories of any disciple.
He could see that the group had already organized themselves sufficiently, which meant they had already experienced the abilities and were fighting with keeping that in mind.
Seeing that none of them had discovered him, Eryndor took care not to place a single step forward, because he didn't know the range of those Nightfang Stalkers.
They looked stronger than usual.
Might as well watch the fight while looking around for other valuable plants.
It was the first time he had seen a hint of hope in achieving level three in three power systems, he was obviously going to gather as much of these valuable treasures as he could.
With them I can easily resume my progress on the Mentalist power system.
He began focusing on the fight, where he could recognise a few disciples due to his habit of scanning memories of other disciples, while taking in the locations of other important flora.
The lead Nightfang Stalker, its eyes burning like embers, lunged. "Rubble Roar!" a disciple screamed, recognizing the danger from before.
The ground beneath the disciples bucked violently. Several Qi Condensation cultivators lost their footing, tumbling into jagged rocks. Jacob, who had assumed the role of the commander roared, "Shield formation! Protect the rear!"
He slammed his Tower Shield down, channeling Qi to stabilize the ground around him, creating a temporary anchor.
As the tremor subsided, the first Stalker was already upon them. It lunged for a cluster of fallen disciples.
Sofie, quick as thought, activated her Cyclone Slash art, her twin sabers a blur of Qi-infused steel.
She aimed for the Stalker's exposed flank. Her blades scraped against its obsidian hide, leaving only shallow, sparking gouges. The Stalker ignored her, its focus on the easier targets.
"Lightning Orb!" shouted a mid stage Qi Condensation disciple named Ren, unleashing a crackling ball of electrical energy. It struck the Stalker's head, momentarily dazzling it, but the beast merely shook its massive skull, barely affected.
Meanwhile, the second Nightfang Stalker moved with terrifying grace. It phased through a large rock formation near the group's flank using Shadow Warp, emerging silently behind two unwary healers.
Before they could react, its massive jaws snapped shut, crushing one instantly. The other shrieked, paralyzed with terror.
"Spread out! Focus fire!" Commander Jacob bellowed, slamming his shield into the first Stalker as it wheeled around. His Boulder Bulwark defense art activated, creating a shimmering, earthen barrier around his shield.
The Stalker's charge was momentarily halted, its jaws snapping futilely against the durable shield.
A group of Qi Condensation cultivators, seeing the opening, began launching a volley of their strongest offensive arts. Fiery Serpent Strike, Wind Blade Flurry, Earth Spike Volley – a chaotic cascade of elemental energy rained down on the first Stalker.
Yet, its scales seemed to absorb most of the punishment, only minor scorch marks and faint cracks appearing on its hide.
The second Stalker, after its swift kill, became a deterrent.
It would Shadow Warp into the ground, disappear, then re-emerge unpredictably, its crimson eyes glowing as it hunted.
A nimble disciple with a whip-like chain art, Wei Fang, attempted to snare it, but the Stalker simply phased through her extended weapon.
"Aim for the eyes! The joints!" Commander Jacob barked, coordinating their desperate efforts. He knew their combined power was simply not enough for these beasts.
The fight devolved into a brutal war of attrition. The disciples, despite their coordination, struggled against the Stalkers' overwhelming durability and unpredictable movements.
Every time they thought they had one cornered, it would either Shadow Warp away or unleash a devastating Rubble Roar, throwing them off balance.
Jacob was growing frustrated.
What is this goddamn place?
It has nothing valuable but only these two goddamn powerful beasts?
Unbeknownst to them, a certain someone was happily collecting the valuables of this space.
