Chapter 29: Battle For Real - Chapter 29

There was no doubt.

The subtle pressure.

The sharp clarity of his movements.

The way he walked

Arin could sense the fine control,

Agris wasn't just some brawler that stumbled into Nen by accident.

This wasn't a game anymore.

This was his first real fight.

The referee, standing on the edge of the arena, looked between the two and raised a single hand.

"Victory by knockout, surrender, or inability to fight. Match will begin on my signal."

Both men gave a curt nod.

Arin steadied his breath, lowering his stance slightly.

He shifted his feet apart, opened his hands, and let a slow pulse of aura spread through his limbs.

Not too much.

Not yet. He needed to feel his opponent first.

Agris didn't move. Just stared.

The referee's hand dropped.

"Begin!"

The arena exploded into motion.

Arin didn't rush. He stepped to the side cautiously, eyes locked on Agris's center of mass.

He wanted to bait an attack, measure the distance, and read the timing.

But Agris didn't fall for it.

He too circled slowly, matching Arin's pace.

Then, in an instant, Agris lunged forward.

It wasn't a sloppy charge; it was a controlled burst.

His fist rocketed forward with a tight arc.

Arin moved back, twisting slightly to avoid it.

But Agris wasn't done.

A follow-up kick came from below.

Arin ducked and countered with a palm strike aimed at Agris's ribs, but it was blocked, deflected easily.

They disengaged.

"Good reflexes," Agris said, flatly.

Arin didn't answer.

Instead, he extended his senses more.

His ten was solid, but he could feel the difference between them.

"Compared to my mastery over 'Nen' and control of his Nen, his is more natural."

"While attacking, he is not using 'Gyo' or anything to empower himself."

"I am sure that he does not use 'Ken' either; at the very most, he just uses 'Ten' to empower his attacks and defend against my attacks."

"If he is lacking in the training of using Gyo to defend and attack like how Biscuit taught Gon and Killua while in Greed Island."

"There should not be a problem to defeat him."

Arin needed to push the tempo.

He dashed in.

A fake jab to the shoulder.

A low sweep.

A spinning elbow.

Agris blocked, ducked, and stepped back, but a glint appeared in his eye.

He cracked his neck and muttered,

"I did not expect to fight against a Nen user at this level…"

Agris exhaled sharply, and his aura flared.

Arin's breath hitched.

Arin responded in kind, focusing his aura on his limbs.

He didn't use Ren yet.

No need. Not unless he saw Agris commit it.

They clashed again.

A blur of movements.

Blocks, counters, strikes.

Agris was fast but not lightning fast.

As the match went on, Arin began to notice patterns. Agris favored his right side.

He used his left hand to block more often.

His footwork left brief windows on his flank.

"So, this is how a real fight feels."

"Compared to ordinary fighters who are not nen users, this is a whole lot different."

"Just a simple use of 'Ten' will not cut it."

After nearly four minutes of intense exchanges, Arin saw it.

A slight dip in Agris's left shoulder.

Arin stepped in and unleashed a short-range burst of aura-enhanced palm strike targeting the ribs he'd mapped earlier.

This time, he used "Gyo" to enhance his palms to attack.

He decided that just "Ten" would not cut it, and using Ren is not too subtle, as it would show that he is preparing for a real attack.

Impact.

Agris staggered.

Not down but unbalanced.

Arin pressed the opening another strike, a sweep, a shoulder check.

"No !"

Agris shouted but it was no use.

He fell, and Arin kicked the head of him, without using Gyo to not kill him.

"Thud!"

The kick hit the head of Agris, and Agris dropped on the ground half awake or half asleep.

The referee stepped in and checked the eyes of Agris and nodded.

"Match over!"

He had won.

And as he stood there, sweat dripping from his brow, he smiled.

The level one hundreds were just the beginning.

After the battle between Agris and Arin ended, Arin returned to his room in the Heavens Arena.

The fight still echoed in his muscles, in his thoughts.

He didn't go straight to rest.

Instead, he sat down on the small chair beside the window, letting his body relax while his mind replayed the match step by step, blow by blow.

After a few minutes, he shook his head and stood back up.

His limbs were sore, but his aura was stable.

He walked toward the small fridge in the corner, opened it, and pulled out the filled bottle of whiskey he bought two days ago.

He poured himself a drink into a short glass and took a sip.

A soft smile formed on his lips as he tilted the glass slightly toward the window, like toasting the view.

"That was a lot of fun," he said to himself with a chuckle. "Different."

Arin wasn't under any illusion.

Agris wasn't a master of Nen, not someone like Hisoka, Chrollo, or anyone at the top.

But Agris wasn't a rookie either.

He was strong, well-trained, and capable.

He used ten proficiently, and that alone placed him above the average.

Fighting him was different from the matches against martial artists or brawlers who relied on muscle or instinct.

He walked across the room and threw a few punches into the air, testing his form and measuring the speed of his arm.

His eyes focused on the imaginary silhouette of Agris, mapping again the flow of the battle.

He sipped the whiskey again and let out a long breath.
