Hunter x Hunter - Unlimited Abilities

Chapter 25: Regroup and Vanishing Nen User - Chapter 25

Alia stood beside Ertis.

Her eyes flicked once more toward the closed door of Room 101, then back at him.

"If we can't solve the problem with this woman,"

"We can't really expect to fight Arkanis."

"Agree," Ertis responded without hesitation.

Alia gave a cold smile, then without waiting another second, snapped the handle off the door in a swift motion.

She wrapped it in Shu, reinforcing the metal with her aura, and aimed it at the woman.

In one seamless movement, she launched the door handle like a projectile.

It tore through the air with high velocity, enhanced by Nen and force.

Ertis, watching beside her, commented inwardly:

"Without Nen protection, that strike could easily kill an ordinary human."

The handle struck the meditating woman, hitting her clean.

She didn't scream.

Instead, she calmly stood up and smiled, brushing dust from her legs as if she'd been waiting for this moment.

"In the end," she said, looking directly at them,

You couldn't handle the pressure and decided to attack me."

Neither Alia nor Ertis responded.

They both held their ground in silence.

And then she vanished.

Gone. Like smoke drifting away.

Not a flash of light, not an explosion of aura.

Alia and Ertis exchanged glances.

Ertis broke the silence.

"A counteractive ability that activates after she's attacked and transports her to a safe place."

Alia shook her head slowly.

"It'd be too simple if that were all," she said.

"I think her ability is more tied to this room specifically."

Ertis touched his chin, going through the sequence again in his mind.

He could feel something was off.

"A counteractive type… mixed with a barrier-style mechanism," he began.

"She gets attacked. And if after that her attacker enters a specific area she designated before taking the hit… something activates."

Alia nodded, arms crossed, thoughtful.

"A double-condition Nen ability," she confirmed. "It must be powerful. She not only risks getting hit but also sets a trigger that depends on someone walking into a place she prepared in advance."

Ertis exhaled deeply.

"This is a big problem."

They had no name for the ability yet.

No clue what the full effect might've been.

But one thing was certain.

If they had entered the room after striking her, something irreversible would have happened.

The voice of Nakis came through the earpieces three seconds later.

"Come back and leave the hotel."

"We've spent too much time there. We need to regroup and find our actual target. The woman isn't Arkanis."

There was no argument.

Both Alia and Ertis knew better than to linger in a volatile situation without purpose.

"Understood," Alia said.

"On it," Ertis replied.

Together, they turned and began walking down the long, narrow hallway toward the staircase.

The air inside the hotel felt heavier.

As they descended to the lobby, Ertis finally broke the silence.

"In the end," he muttered, voice low but certain,

"That woman must have some connection to Arkanis. Nen users capable of forming complex hatsu abilities like that… they're not common."

Alia nodded, her footsteps light but steady beside him.

"I agree," she said.

"A conjurer, maybe even a specialist… Arkanis might know someone like her."

Ertis's expression was unreadable.

"Compared to that other woman I killed, the conjurer with the shotgun, this one was on a different level entirely."

He shook his head slightly.

"That one was chaotic. On the other hand, that woman in the "Room 101"

He paused.

"She controlled the pressure of the entire situation without ever moving. Just by sitting still, she made it nearly impossible for us to make a move."

Alia remained quiet, but her nod signaled agreement again.

She had sensed it too, the tension, the invisible edge that told them they were always one step away from disaster.

They exited the stairwell into the hotel lobby.

Neither spoke again as they passed through the doors, out into the night.

They both knew this was far from over.

They needed to regroup.

Ten minutes later, inside an abandoned house,

Nakis, Alia, and Ertis now gathered in a triangle formation around a metal table bolted into the ground.

Nakis leaned forward slightly, arms crossed.

He looked at the two of them for a long silent moment before footsteps echoed outside.

Then, the door creaked open.

Sagu entered.

"No tails," he said simply, voice even.

"I watched all three of you from the moment you left the hotel. Nobody followed, and nobody suspicious left the building after you. That woman never came out."

Alia narrowed her eyes and immediately asked,

"Then is there a problem with the lead we were given?"

Her voice was sharp but controlled.

She wasn't doubting Nakis, but the situation had created too many unknowns.

The supposed intel had led them to a hotel room filled with danger, but not their target.

Nakis shook his head.

"It couldn't be."

"If the lead was fake, if Arkanis was never there, then why were two different Nen users positioned inside that building?"

"One with a conjured shotgun… and one with an elaborate counteractive ability. That's not random."

He straightened his back and rested his hands on the table.

"We were supposed to find Arkanis there. Something or someone intervened."

Ertis folded his arms and nodded.

He looked down for a moment, as if going over the events again in his mind, then looked up.

"Yeah. That's too much coincidence."

He paused.

"That crazy conjurer woman… She wasn't just some civilian. And the woman in 101? She had aura control and structure I've rarely seen."

Nakis nodded.

"We will wait for Mavel to heal and then regroup here in one week to discuss the new plan."

"In the meantime I will track down Arkanis..."

Everyone nodded and left the house and the area.
