Chapter 12: Nen Category - First Nen Ability From System - Chapter 12
One week had passed since Arin had pinned the calendar to his wall, marking the date of the 285th Hunter Exam.
Every day had begun the same way: a cold rise before dawn, a quick stretch, and then two hours of Nen basics. Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Gyo
Afternoons were devoted to physical conditioning.
By nightfall, his muscles ached pleasantly, and his aura flowed with increasing stability.
But as the seventh sunrise edged through his window this morning,
Arin realized it was time to learn what kind of Nen user he was.
For that, there was only one test:
Water Divination.
He closed his notebook after jotting down the day's training accomplishments.
It was time to find his Nen type.
"Enhancer or Transmuter are ones that I do not want for myself."
"They are too simple for my plans in the future."
Arin took a deep breath.
Cross-legged on a woven mat, back straight, shoulders relaxed.
He placed both hands flat on the table, fingertips lightly brushing the bowl's rim.
His eyes were closed.
With a single, effortless motion of his will, he used his nen to see a reaction on the water or the leaf.
For a moment, nothing happened. Just the leaf drifting on ripples from a stray breeze.
Then, imperceptibly at first, it began to turn.
Slowly at first, then more steadily, until it spun in wide circles clockwise.
Arin's heart quickened.
This was no accident.
His aura was guiding the leaf.
He whispered softly under his breath.
"Manipulator."
He exhaled, opening his eyes.
"A manipulator I am,"
He rose and circled the table slowly, hands clasped behind his back.
He had studied the six Nen types—Enhancer, Transmuter, Conjurer, Emitter, Specialist, and Manipulator—each with its strengths and quirks.
Manipulators were artists of control, bending living creatures, objects, even abstract forces to their will. They excelled at puppetry, mind play, and creating subtle, insidious effects.
They were less direct than emitters or enhancers, but they were powerful from what he knew.
"The first come, first served rule of the manipulators is important," he said to himself.
He remembers Shalnark, Morel, and Illumi; they were all great manipulators.
He retrieved his notebook and wrote in bold letters at the top of a fresh page:
Nen Type: Manipulator
He paused, tapping the pen against his lip.
Back in his room, he placed his notebook down with a thump and sat cross-legged in the center of the floor.
Right behind his eyes, no pain, no voice, no warning—just a seamless change in his perception as the System Panel silently appeared before him again.
But this time… it had changed.

"The Unknown Origin has changed to the "Unknown Traveler & Points of Fate."
"A natural specialist ability coming from the system to the "user" "Arin".
"Nen Points are now visible to the user."
"Nen Points represent the creative and energetic capacity to form and maintain Nen Abilities"
1 Nen Ability requires 20 Nen Points.
Nen points increase through
– Raising overall Aura Volume
– Performing acts of extraordinary difficulty
– Surviving near-death combat
– Executing high-risk intelligent plans
– Meditating under harsh conditions

Arin blinked slowly.
Then read it again.
"Nen Points…"
He had five.
The information hit like a sudden drop in gravity.
A visible measure of his progress that now included the fuel for actual Hatsu creation.
He exhaled sharply through his nose, his heart rate increasing.
Twenty points for a Nen Ability...
Which meant even if he came up with the perfect concept tomorrow, the energy to bring it to life wouldn't exist yet.
"Interesting," Arin murmured. "So it's not just creativity… it's currency. Spiritual currency."
With this system, he wouldn't be like other manipulators who had to wait years to master aura control before developing one ability.
His system was preparing him for multiple abilities as long as he have enough "Nen Points"
"A specialist ability that has many conditions and rules similar to an "RPG" game."
"Increase your level and power in order to have new abilities, more like having chances of creating new abilities."
"A double-edged sword if used wrongly..."
He stood up and paced the room, eyes sharp now, the fatigue of training forgotten.
And the system even outlined how his natural specialist ability works.
Raise Aura Volume.
Perform acts of extraordinary difficulty.
Survive near-death combat.
Execute high-risk intelligent plans.
Meditate under harsh conditions.
Arin smiled after remembering each one and commented.
"The high-risk plan is similar to Chrollo Lucilfer."
"He will need to steal the treasures of Kakin to upgrade his nen ability to another level."
Compared to Chrollo, Arin needs to perform these conditions to increase his Nen points to have more chance to create new abilities without drawbacks.
"A great specialist ability and a cheat, I suppose." Arin thought.
