Chapter 226: Chapter 226: A Dream (Part 1)
---
The weekly staff meeting had always been a dreadful ordeal for Severus Snape.
Spending hours on such pointless discussions felt like a complete waste of time.
Why couldn't these meetings be held monthly, or even once per term?
He fixated on a stray fiber sticking out from the black quill in his hand, glaring at it as if his gaze alone could incinerate it.
The monotonous drone of voices filled the room. Flitwick was expressing his dissatisfaction with Moody's unilateral decision to alter the teaching schedule, specifically his choice to teach fourth-years defensive spells originally intended for sixth-years.
Moody, thumping his wooden leg and slamming the table, defended his actions passionately, arguing that Dark wizards wouldn't care whether a child was fourteen or sixteen when attacking.
Snape's lips curled into a derisive smirk. What was so challenging about those spells? Those students, as dense as trolls, likely had brains as smooth as glass, having never exercised them in their lives. Orli Waters had mastered those basic defensive spells in just a week during the summer holidays—though, of course, that was largely due to his rigorous instruction...
Irritated, he began doodling absentmindedly on the blank parchment before him with the quill.
Ever since that mangy mutt had visited the Waters household, everything had spiraled out of control. He had actually distanced himself from Orli Waters because of a few idiotic remarks from Black. He hadn't done anything inappropriate, so why was he acting as if he had something to hide?
He loathed admitting it, but he regretted it now. Yet he had no idea how to return to their previous dynamic.
Some time ago, Waters had even contacted him using the two-way mirror. What had he been thinking at the time?
Ah, yes. He remembered now—he had thought, "So she still remembers she has a two-way mirror? It's been nearly a year, and she finally thought to use it."
But all she talked about was Lupin's potion, Lupin's leg, and the side effects on Lupin!
He had tossed the two-way mirror back into the drawer with a scowl and retreated to his bedroom, thoroughly displeased.
And then he had a dream.
In the dream, Waters was striding briskly down a corridor at Hogwarts. He struggled to catch up with her and finally managed to call out:
"Orli Waters! Why are you running so fast in the corridor? Ten points from Gryffindor!"
But Waters turned back to look at him, her expression puzzled. "Senior, do you... know me?"
He froze, instinctively glancing at the glass window on one side of the corridor, only to realize that he had reverted to his sixteen-year-old self, dressed in Slytherin robes. To his delight, Waters was wearing robes of the same color—silver and green adorned her neck, complementing her beautifully.
"Senior?" Waters was still looking at him, her confusion evident. "If there's nothing else... I'll be on my way. It's Hogsmeade weekend today."
Snape had wanted to ask why she was allowed to go to Hogsmeade, but he heard his dream-self respond instead:
"...I'm going too. It's on the way."
And so they spent the entire day in Hogsmeade. Snape had never found the place so enjoyable. Although he knew it was just a dream, in the dream, he was only sixteen. His arm bore no unsightly marks. He could let go of everything, even aimlessly wandering the streets felt delightful. Fourteen-year-old Orli Waters walked beside him, her melodious voice chattering away. He didn't say much in response, but he listened attentively, a faint smile playing on his lips.
But as they were about to return to the castle, four figures he despised appeared in their path.
