chapter 48
The Housekeeper in the Dungeon
Episode 48
“Yes? Where to? I like what I’m doing.”
It was a sound like wind in a dry sky.
Hee-Na loved her current job. It was rewarding in many ways.
She loved keeping the building clean, gaining experience for her Awakening ability, and getting to know the people on the fifth and eighth floors so well that she was sad to leave.
Mr. Kang Mok-hyun, the head of the human resources team, soothed Hee-na’s tears.
“I know you’ll be sad. But if you listen, you’ll realize that there’s a better opportunity for you.”
“What is that?”
“You’ll be in charge of the Awakened State Management team.”
Hee-Na’s mouth dropped open.
“What? The Awakened State Management Team? I’ve never heard of that department before, and I’m the team leader?”
“The team was just created an hour ago, so it’s not surprising you’ve never heard of it.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“We’d like you to be the first team leader. I promise to treat you better than any other team leader. You won’t regret it. The contract is blank. You can write down anything you want.”
It was an offer that bordered on the insane. A hot new team, less than an hour old, and a team leader who wasn’t even a member of the team.
Hee-Na pinched her cheek.
“It hurts.
It wasn’t a dream.
Well, it was a dream on a scale far beyond her humble imagination.
Mokhyun Kang explained the department and what Hee-na would have to do.
“You’ll be the sole team leader and team member, and the job won’t be too difficult. You’ll be managing the health of the Awakened in the guild. …… But that’s just the external description, you’ll only be managing the health of Hunter Kang Jin-hyun.”
Hee-na glanced at Kang Jin-hyun, who sat silently beside the Guild Leader.
“You only need to manage Hunter Kang Jinhyun?”
“That’s right. Hunter Kang is the mainstay of our guild. However, due to his superhumanly superior five senses, he hasn’t been able to fully utilize his abilities, but with Ms. Lee’s help, he’ll be able to reach 100%, maybe even 200% of his potential.”
He pauses for a moment, then adds.
“He may look a bit blunt and fierce, but he’s quite gentle. He’s guarded, but once he lets go, people follow.”
As for Kang Jin-hyun’s older brother, he’s like the guy who puts an abandoned puppy up for adoption.
He looks like an abandoned puppy, but he’s more people-friendly than you’d think. He can sit, down, and stay. ……. It’s kind of like this.
At this rate, I was going to start talking about how he can cover up his feces.
Hee-na laughed awkwardly because that was the last thing she wanted to hear.
“Haha……. Everyone in Korea knows that Hunter Kang Jin-hyun is a nice guy.”
“I heard you’ve even had a private meal with him.”
“Oh, yeah.”
I shook my head, and Mr. Kang Mokhyun, the head of HR, made a plea.
“I’m sure you’ve seen the human side of Hunter Kang during those meals.”
“That…… is true.”
They had even seen the human side of him picking up food off the floor and trying to eat it.
“Pu…… kulk, kulk, hmmmm.”
As soon as I rolled my eyes at the scene, Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee coughed and covered her mouth.
However, HR Manager Kang Mok-hyun didn’t let the interruption stop him.
“Living as an S-class Hunter may seem like nothing to be afraid of. But if one cannot enjoy proper ceremonial food, can one call his life a human life? As the older brother of Hunter Kang Jin-hyun, I don’t want my brother to live like that for the rest of his life. I beg you, Ms. Lee Hee-na. Please save Jinhyun from his pain.”
He bowed his head as if to beg.
“Please, Ms. Hee-na.”
Even Kang Jin-hyun begged for Hee-na’s name. It was an incredibly embarrassing situation for Hee-na, who had lived her entire life as an eunuch.
“Go, look up, you don’t have to do this!”
“Then do you agree to the transfer?”
Hee-na bit her lip tightly as Kang Mok-hyun, the head of the HR team, asked.
She was dazed by the sudden influx of information. She had only been awake for less than an hour.
When a person is suddenly faced with a huge offer, it’s hard to accept it.
“What am I going to do……? It’s so sudden.
I wanted to go home and think about it.
Woo Min-ah nudged Hee-na from the side.
“I know you’re worried because something big happened all of a sudden, but Hee-na, you said you wanted to stay with a good company. A company that won’t go out of business or disappear, a company that covers all four major insurances, and a company that doesn’t miss a paycheck.”
“Yes, sis.”
“I thought you already turned down Kang Jin-hyun’s offer once. You didn’t want to work for a sole proprietor.”
Hee-na nodded. She said she had turned down the offer to be a personal chef and had agreed to pack her lunch.
Woo Min-ah giggled.
“You……. You dumped Kang Jin-hyun for that reason. You’re a great girl in a strange place.”
“Qi, I’ll take it as a compliment.”
“Okay. But this is different. You’ll still be a full-time employee of the Blue Dragon, just with a raise. Your job will be the same. Calming the Hunter kids, cleaning up messes. It’s just that you’re Kang Jin-hyun.”
It made sense. Hee-Na’s heart sank.
“Yes, it’s a sudden change of personnel, but isn’t it common enough in a normal company?”
Mr. Kang Mok-hyun, the head of the HR team, nudged her. I felt a little cognitive dissonance as he spoke with a cold expression.
“Umm…….”
Hee-na crossed her arms and thought for a while. Finally, she nodded.
“I’ll do as you say.”
The sight of four pairs of intense eyes staring at her was overwhelming. If he didn’t say yes here, he would be in trouble.
It wasn’t like when he’d had a one-on-one with Kang Jin-hyun. He had a soft corner, and the guild leader and HR manager didn’t seem to be able to thread the needle.
‘Besides, the boss told me to do it…….’
With the guild leader looking so determined, it was hard for the lowly employee to refuse.
“Good thinking, Ms. Lee. You won’t regret it.”
Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee clapped her hands together, a smile on her face.
“Yes.”
While Hee-na was momentarily overwhelmed by the enormity of her decision, Woo Min-ah excitedly interjected.
“We can’t let this slide. You need to read the contract with your eyes open. You need a raise, and you need a house.”
My mouth dropped open at the unthinkable.
“A house?”
“Yes. I thought you were sorry about living in my house.”
Having a house solves a lot of problems.
Not being able to order delivery food, not being able to have a courier come straight to your house, and having your bills delivered by Woo Min Ah.
I was even able to secure a “door” spot for my brother, Hee-won.
Even for Hee-Na, who already had a house with the Awakening skill, the idea of having a ‘home’ outside of the dungeon was not a bad one.
‘Even so, I needed somewhere to go if something happened to my home sweet home…….’
The best part was that if something happened to her home in the dungeon, she would have a place to stay.
“Do we just need one house, two houses, or three houses?”
Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee snapped her fingers.
“Ha, I think one house will be enough.”
Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee nodded solemnly at Hee-na’s answer.
“You’re a clean and straightforward young man. Therefore, I will grant you three houses.”
Not a gold axe or a silver axe, but three houses. How could this be possible?
While Hee-na was dumbfounded, the head of the HR team, Kang Mok-hyun, brightened up and scribbled on the blank contract.
“How much do we agree on? Three times, five times, ten times, whatever you want.”
He then offered her a staggering salary. It was a lot, a lot, a lot more than Hee-Na had saved in her entire life.
A billion, base salary only, no bonuses.
Hee-na listened to the number in a daze.
“Brother, you don’t have to work anymore, you can just farm as a hobby…….
And just like that, she had a new house and a job with a great salary.
He is a successful family man in this era.

“Good work on the contract, Mr. Kang.”
Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee congratulated Mok-hyun Kang on his hard work.
He was the one who kept the complex contract straight and organized.
“He did the right thing. It was necessary.”
Kang Mok-hyun, head of human resources, wiped his forehead with a tired expression.
It was he who had reviewed and pushed through the contract during the few days Hee-na had been asleep.
The Guild Leader gave him a small nod of appreciation for his efforts. Then he crossed his legs and snapped his fingers.
“I see. How does Hunter Kang feel, now that he can officially enjoy the touch of Ms. Lee, or rather, Team Leader Lee?”
“Thank you.”
Kang’s reply was terse enough to feel impolite.
“Tsk. Blunt.”
But the guild leader could feel how happy he was.
Right now, Kang Jin Hyun is in better shape than ever. Her mind was clear, and her body was light as air.
She smiled lightly, then hardened her expression again. Now came the real work.
