Chapter 49
Housekeeper in the dungeon
Episode 49
“By the way, how far do you think you’ll be able to cover once things stabilize? The dungeon activity has been crazy lately. The dungeon activation cycles are getting shorter and shorter, and we’re opening more new gates than usual, so we’re short on fighters. We’re going to need more and more River Hunters.”
Kang Jin Hyun lowered his eyes as if lost in thought. After a moment of silence, he spoke up.
“If …… continues to be like this, I think I can solo up to Class A without too much trouble.”
The Guild Leader raised an eyebrow.
“Without support?”
“Yes. It’s better that way.”
The answer was firm.
Was it because she possessed a destructive power that didn’t care about Pia? Kang was a Hunter who preferred to fight alone rather than work with others.
“Hmm.”
Guild Leader Kim Gyu-hee rubbed her chin slowly, then pressed her temples together in a troubled manner.
“Within two or three years, there will be an SSS-class dungeon in the Pacific Ocean.”
“You mean SSS-class……, is that even possible?”
Class S was the highest rating for a dungeon in existence.
“Yes, it is. I got this information not long ago, in secret.”
The guild leader crossed his legs and let out a low sigh.
“An SSS-ranked dungeon……. I don’t even know if it’s possible to clear it, but it’s a goal that must be met if humanity is to survive.”
Failure to stop the SSS-class dungeon would have been catastrophic, far worse than what happened a decade ago.
“Before the stronger dungeons open, bring your skills to their fullest. With this team leader at your side, I’m sure you can prove to be more than what you’ve shown so far.”
“Understood.”
Guild Leader Kim Gyuhee smirked at Kang Jinhyun’s stiff answer.
“Since the condition of the Kang Hunter is in this team leader’s hands, it could be said that the existence of humanity is in this team leader’s hands. Isn’t that interesting?”
Kang asked.
“What’s funny?”
“People treat household chores like nothing, and even this team leader doesn’t think much of his abilities.”
Kang Jin-hyun, who was listening to her, quietly retorted.
“Ms. Hee-na’s abilities are not insignificant.”
The guild leader waved his hand lightly as if to calm her down.
“I know. I know that so why else would we invest so much in her and try to hold onto her?”
He slowly leaned back in his chair. His voice dropped to a whisper.
“I’m very curious to see where this team leader will take you, and the more I think about it, the more intriguing it is.”
4. The Housekeeper of Two Houses
On the day she woke up after exiting the Class B Mushroom Dungeon, Hee-Na signed a contract and swore an oath with a magic stone.
In a nutshell, she agreed to become the head of the Awakened State Management Team and take care of the Hunters (especially Kang Jin-hyun) in exchange for three houses and a huge salary.
As soon as the contract was over, Kang Jin-hyun thanked Hee-na over and over again. I was surprised that he was so grateful even though he had agreed to work for money.
Anyway, today was the first day I visited the houses where Hee-na and Hee-won would be living administratively from now on.
Of the three houses, it was the one closest to the Blue Dragon Guild.
“Wow. Lee Hee-na, this is amazing!”
Hee-won’s mouth dropped open as he looked around the apartment. Even though the apartment was several years old, it was very clean with no signs of use.
“You found a place in the right neighborhood, not too busy, quiet, and not too far from all the amenities. You did it, my brother. If your parents knew, they’d be so proud of you.”
Hee-Na mumbled to herself.
“Sis, I don’t feel like this is my home yet.”
“Me neither. Who would have thought you’d get to live in such a nice house? What are you going to do with the rest of the house?”
“Well…….”
Guild leader Kim Gyu-hee told them that the guild would take care of the other two houses, and they could rent them out or leave them empty.
However, she told me I couldn’t sell them. The contract said they couldn’t sell them for three years.
It was a big fortune that came so quickly, so she decided to let the other two houses sit vacant for a while. There were so many things to think about.
“I still haven’t decided where to put the ‘door’ to the dungeon, so it’s a good thing we have this house.”
Hee-won stroked the faintly glowing key-shaped symbol on the back of his hand.
He was just as cautious as his brother, so he hadn’t added a door yet. He hadn’t gotten around to it yet because he was just as cautious as his brother, and since he was tending the fields in the dungeon, he didn’t get out much.
But I never thought it would come back to bite me.
Hee-won looked around the apartment and thought about where to put the door.
“I’ll make this room my room, and I’ll assign a door to this room.”
He picked a room and gestured to it, and Hee-Na gave him the OK sign.
“Finally, I’m done running errands for your gardening supplies. From now on, you can buy whatever you need on your own.”
Hee-na was quick to insist that the gate be installed, as she was secretly annoyed that she had been running Hee-won’s errands for her.
“Okay, okay.”
Hee-won waved her hand and stared into space. He seemed to be reading some kind of system message.
Soon, a front door appeared in the corner of the wall. It was the door to Hee-Na’s “home sweet home.
“That’s it. Now I just have to get here and there.”
Hee-won looked proudly at the front door she’d created, and Hee-na’s eyes lit up.
“Do you mind if I open ……?”
“I don’t know. Do you think you can handle it?”
Hee-na looked confused.
She could see why Hee-won was so hesitant to enter Home Sweet Home. Hee-Na was also afraid of the conflicts that would arise as soon as she opened the door.
“But it’s something you have to face at some point.”
“That’s true.”
With a small sigh and a nod, Hee-won grabbed the doorknob and turned it.
Through the open doorway, she saw a familiar sight. Unlike the creepily tidy apartment, this place was full of life.
“Oh Sack, we’re home.”
Hee-na searched the house for the little snail. The little snail that greeted her every time she opened the front door was nowhere to be seen.
“Oh Sack, where are you?”
Hee-na looked around the house anxiously and found a few lettuce leaves on the kitchen table.
“Is this ……?
There was a hole pierced through the lettuce. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a letter.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a prophecy about who the next president or king would be. Instead, it said something else.
Hee-na slowly read the letters on the lettuce leaf, one by one. Hee-won read beside her, too.
“Two…… struggle…….”
As soon as they finished reading, Hee-na and Hee-won let out a collective sigh.
It was a message from Oksai.
It was. Oh, Haekyi was a jealous snail. As soon as he heard the rumor that Hee-na had gotten three new houses, he protested loudly.
“Two houses, no! Four houses, no! I’m shocked by the landlord’s infidelity!”
Some people might have thought she was having an affair.
From that day on, he was furious and demanded that the house be sold immediately. The expression “sell” is a euphemism for “burn down” and “burn all the other houses”.
But since the three houses themselves were part of the contract, it was impossible to sell them for a while.
Hee-na explained this fact over and over again, but it didn’t matter to the snail, who was already blinded by jealousy.
“Adultery! Strong punishment!”
“♬I love the place!”
“Octopus legs!”
“Traitor! I hate intermarriage!”
Every day, Wu Xiaoxi pecked at Hee-na and Hee-won.
Today, he mysteriously disappeared, leaving the word “struggle” on two pieces of lettuce. It was a runaway of sorts.
But there was no way Oh Sae-yi, the house manager, would have left Home Sweet Home. It was clear that he was hiding inside the house, even though he had written this.
“Oh, where are you?”
Hee-na and Hee-won searched every corner of the house.
Home Sweet Home was tiny compared to the siblings’ new apartment, but it was big enough for a snail to hide in.
“Come on, colorful, we need to have a proper conversation. I won’t blame you for ripping the lettuce!”
Hee-won raised her voice and looked around for a while, searching for Oh-saek.
At that moment, Hee-won suddenly spoke up.
“Is that Hee-na?”
“What’s wrong, big brother?”
“Am I the only one who feels like the humidity has increased in here?”
“No. I feel it too. It’s humid.”
It didn’t take long for them to realize that something was wrong with the house.
Their “home sweet home” was always at the right temperature and humidity.
“The wallpaper is damp?”
The sheets were sticky, and the wallpaper was damp. It was as if condensation was forming in the subterranean room.
“What the hell, is this mold?”
Hee-won gasped as she inspected the wall and pointed her finger at the bottom of the wall. There it was, a giant mold creeping up the wall.
“Mold again?”
Hee-Na cursed her relationship with mold. The damn fungus had no intention of getting out of her life.
Hee-won crossed her arms, thought about it, and concluded.
“I think this phenomenon is related to the five colors, right?”
Hee-na agreed with her brother.
“I think so, too. After all, things suddenly started to go wrong in the house after he disappeared.”
