Chapter 61: War VII
(Third Person POV)
Drakken walked over the corpses of Rivermen that laid in the field outside Harrenhal. After a quick but bloody battle, he decided to walk and take in the grotesque view. There were bodies littered everywhere, blood had fused with the damp ground already.
There was an attack on Harrenhal the day after Drakken received word that Jaehaerys intended to fly to discuss peace terms. Remnants of House Tully's resistance had joined with House Strong's stragglers in an attempt to take back Harrenhal while Drakken's Duskguard were settling in with the castle.
While it was a futile attempt, it was one that Drakken respected and decided to butcher the men that tried attacking them and letting them rest, returning them to the earth.
As many of his men walked around the battlefield, executing those who survived the onslaught, Drakken simply breathed in the air that was around him. It was damp, humid, and was reeking of blood.
"Blood....." Drakken said, "Viktor...Riktor.....the two of you would have adored this...you blood-sucking fiends.....How I miss you...."
He looked up at the sky, full of rainclouds. There was a strange feeling of serenity that Drakken had been feeling throughout the entire time he decided to wage war. He had always boasted about how he is a god and his dominion is War and Death but now, of all times, he had shown how terrifying his power is.
Within a short time, he overtook the Riverlands with his pure might, and if given a bit more time, he would eventually spread out and overtake more regions. He had his sights aimed at The Vale and was more than willing to gather a massive army to begin marching to the region, clashing with the Host that the Arryns had formed.
He had forced thousands of Rivermen to submit to his will. This was the first stage of his plan, to force them to join his forces against their will. Those that were resurrected via two Thanatos Feathers spells were subservient to him. While they were brought back shortly after being killed, their personalities were slightly rearranged, showing devotion and unwavering fealty to the God of War.
That spell was incredibly powerful and something that was more than terrifying. But despite that, Drakken did not want to overuse. It took a lot of his power to perform it and he only used it twice to gather enough manpower to threaten the rest of the Realm. Jaehaerys was aware that should Drakken obtain a sizeable army, it would mean terrible danger for the realm considering that he himself is powerful alone. That said, the King knew about his dragon, The Cannibal, and the new beast that he had learned about.
Those factors alone made Drakken a threat to the Crown and Jaehaerys did not want to test the kind of strength Drakken had.
Drakken crouched down and placed his hand on the ground, "The land breathes...." He said with a slight smile, "The more blood is takes in, the happier it feels....I can sense it.....when War walks this land, it breathes in relief."
He then felt some sort of presence off in the distance.
Straightening up, Drakken patted his coat and looked back up to the sky, seeing two figures in the distance. He recognized the shape of the figures; dragons.
"Hm...." Drakken said with a slight smirk, "Dragons.....and it does not look like the Prince Aemon's dragon.....they look normal. Well, one of them is huge."
A couple of moments later, Drakken could make out the massive figure of Vhagar approaching the battlefield as it let out a deafening roar. Many of Drakken's men that were around the field looked up in alarm and slowly backed away in caution.
"It's Vhagar....and...." one of the men said, "Hells, it's Vermithor!"
Drakken, unfazed, merely watched as the massive dragon landed right in front of him and let out a roar. He saw Baelon Targaryen clad in black armor as he gave him a serious look, holding on the handles of Vhagar's saddle.
"Hm...." Drakken said, "This.....is Vhagar?"
Out of the corner of his eye, Drakken saw that Vermithor landed a couple of dozen meters next to Vhagar's wing. The Bronze Fury, Jaehaerys's mount, let out a serious snarl as he looked at Drakken.
Drakken then looked over at the bronze dragon and saw that King Jaehaerys Targaryen was sitting atop his saddle, also wearing armor as a single girl was holding on to his waist. The God of War's eyes slowly widened as he made out the Septa clothing on the girl. He recognized the white hair and purple eyes as the young girl peered at him from behind the King's back.
"Hm...." He said with a slight smirk, "He brought her after all...."
"Drakken!!!" Baelon shouted as Vhagar shifted, "We have come!!"
"I can see that." Drakken said as he tilted his head, "What of it?"
As he said this, Olyver Rivers, walked up to Drakken, leaning into his ear.
"There are several hundred Rivermen in the forest, my lord." He whispered, "What should we do about it? They are hidden, waiting for the right moment to strike. It appears that they've grown quite confident with the sighting of the dragons."
"Leave it." Drakken waved him away
Olyver put his hood on and stepped back a couple of meters, "Yes."
Drakken then watched as Jaehaerys dismounted his dragon, helping Maegelle along the way.
"Drakken." Jaehaerys said as he grabbed Maegelle's hand as she was climbing down, "I am here. She is here. It is time to end this."
Drakken crossed his arms, "Ho?" He said, "You want to end it? You haven't even done anything and you want to end it? What, did my little puppy scared away your biggest lizard, Jaehaerys?"
Jaehaerys scowled, "Listen to yourself, Drakken." He said, "Are you really that petty?"
Drakken narrowed his eyes, "Mind your tone, boy." He said seriously, "You want petty? I will show you petty....."
Vhagar let out a vicious roar as she slammed her wings, "Take it easy, Drakken." Baelon warned, "We have come to broker peace."
Drakken looked around, "Where's the other one? Aemon."
"Do not worry about it." Jaehaerys said, "I brought Maegelle, my daughter. She was the one promised. I would like to apologize, Drakken. Instead of giving her to you, I gave her to a different religion. A deal was made."
Jaehaerys gestured for Maegelle to step forward and the young septa took a couple of steps forward, looking down.
Drakken looked at her, "So...girl...." He said with a slight smirk, "What are your thoughts? There is nothing but blood and corpses around you."
Maegelle looked around, a bit taken aback by the sight of death around the battlefield, "I...." She stammered, "I.....am...."
"This is War, girl." Drakken extended his arms outwards, "These men fought and died not only for their land but for the gods you refused me for."
Maegelle looked at him, "Is that why you did this? Because of what I told you?" She said, "H-How could you do this? Why would you do this?"
Drakken looked at her, "Because you are mine. And your eyes are on those stupid fucking gods that don't care for you." He said, "Nobody in this land recognizes me for what I truly am, the true god. And with this, they will finally realize that I am not some guy that claims to be that."
"Enough, Drakken." Jaehaerys said, "She is here. We can stop everything, we can go back to how we were. You allowed the Realm a time for peace, please return to that."
Drakken pointed at Maegelle, "She knows what to do." He said, "I have an army, Jaehaerys. I have more power than you can hope to fathom. If I decide to do so, I will conquer your Vale, your North, every corner of your Realm will be mine. However, if Maegelle decides to come to me and denounce her gods.....I will consider the Peace."
Jaehaerys looked at Maegelle, "I am sorry, Daughter."
Maegelle looked down, "I know what I have to do."
The Septa walked over to Drakken as she looked at him in the eyes. The God of War and Death was slightly smiling as she did so.
"Hm...." Drakken said
Maegelle stood before Drakken, a couple of feet away, and let out an exhale, "I....M-Maegelle....." She said, "Recog-"
Drakken reached for her and placed his finger on her lips, "Shhh..." He said with a slight smirk, "Hold that thought."
"What?" Jaehaerys said with a surprised look
Drakken closed his eyes and smiled, "Do you three think I am an idiot?" He asked, "The almighty Targaryen King doing nothing but goes and broker peace to the one waging war in his land? Even I am not that stupid to believe...."
"What are you saying?" Baelon asked
Drakken opened and he glared at Baelon, "If I were you imbeciles, I would have attacked my home while I was away and distracted with you." He said with an angry tone, "I am the God of War after all. Is that where Aemon Targaryen is?!"
Jaehaerys grimaced and placed his hand on Blackfyre's handle, "D-Drakken...."
"Arise, Cannibal!!!!"
Drakken had shouted this command and his voice resounded throughout the air with a serious distortion that shook the air and ground.
Suddenly, the loud flaps of dragon wings were heard in the distance and a loud roar followed. Jaehaerys and Baelon looked over to the side and saw a massive black dragon flying in the distance. Both Vhagar and Vermithor were reacting to this, growling and roaring in response.
"A dragon?" Baelon said, "That's the one he claimed?!"
Drakken then pointed to the side of the forest where he could feel the presence of the men that Olyver had warned him about.
"Destroy"
In an instant, The Cannibal swept over the treeline, and the trees were replaced by massive explosions of green flames that shook the ground.
"W-What?!" Jaehaerys exclaimed as he stumbled slightly, "What is the meaning of this?!"
Drakken then grabbed Maegelle's hand and pulled her to him, "Come here."
"N-No!" Maegelle exclaimed
The God of War and Death then pointed his finger at Jaehaerys, "You stupid fucking idiot." He said, "Do you seriously think we are done here? You hand your girl over and try to trick me? Me?!"
"Drakken, let her go!" Jaehaerys drew his sword
"Bang." Drakken said with a smirk
Jaehaerys was then hit with an invisible force and he was sent flying back several dozen meters.
"Father!!" Baelon exclaimed as Vhagar snarled viciously
Drakken held on to Maegelle's waist, who was looking at this with a terrified expression, "I say when War is over." He said, "From here on out, the Duskguard will be established as Westeros's greatest Military Power. From here on out, my House will be established as the Greatest in Westeros. From here on out, my Religion will be established and with time, your Faith will be nothing to it."
The Cannibal circled in the air above them, letting out a roar as Vermithor and Vhagar roared in response.
"Let me go!" Maegelle said, "Stop this, please! This was the deal!"
"No." Drakken said, "And what do you mean? The deal? What are you talking about? I am merely taking you back."
"You were already mine!"
