Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Happy Birthday
Ten minutes later, the crew of Sin City, under Ethan's direction, stood in front of the bar stage set, uniformly posing with peace signs, their fingers pointing forward.
In America, the forward-facing peace sign represents victory, while the backward-facing one symbolizes provocation.
Everyone understood Ethan's intent, so they cooperatively struck the pose.
But before taking the photo, Ethan had them all shout "Niubi" (a Chinese slang term roughly meaning "awesome").
This made Quentin, who loved teaching others, incredibly excited. He went around explaining the meaning of "niubi" and even demonstrated its pronunciation enthusiastically.
For a while, the set was filled with various voices yelling "niubi," making Ethan smirk at the absurdity of the situation.
Soon, everyone finished their impromptu Chinese lesson and stood neatly in front of Ethan's camera.
"3, 2, 1…"
"Niubi!"
The thunderous shout even drew the attention of passersby outside the set. The crew, meanwhile, burst into laughter, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction.
"Thanks, Ethan!" Quentin hugged Ethan, giving him a cheek kiss as thanks for the photo shoot.
"No problem, Quentin. I have a feeling your movie will be a box office hit."
"Really? Then it'll definitely be thanks to you. What are your plans next, Ethan?"
"Me? I have a watch endorsement to shoot, and after that, I'll start working on a film."
"Memoirs of a Geisha?"
"That's the one."
"I'll be sure to catch it in theaters!"
After bidding Quentin farewell, Ethan exchanged a knowing glance with Jessica before leaving the set.
The endorsement shoot for Richard Mille watches had been delayed due to the release of their new models, which had just arrived. When Ethan arrived at their Los Angeles branch, he was warmly welcomed.
"Ethan!" The vice president personally greeted him and escorted him to the studio.
As a photographer, Ethan rarely found himself in front of the lens. Even at the MTV Awards red carpet, he had mostly played a supporting role to Avril.
Today, he got to experience being directed by another photographer.
Thankfully, this photographer was polite, offering gentle guidance instead of sharp critiques, using subtle instructions to guide Ethan into various poses.
After the shoot, the photographer brought the camera over and asked, "Ethan, is there anything you'd like to change?"
Ethan glanced at the photos and shrugged. "Not at all. You did a great job!"
"Really? I've seen your work and am a big fan. When are you holding a photography exhibition?" the photographer asked, delighted.
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Probably in a few months. A proper exhibition requires a lot of photos, and I'm not ready yet."
Truthfully, Ethan didn't plan to rely solely on his existing dark-style photo series. Those photos had already lost their novelty.
To him, a photography exhibition wasn't just about showcasing skills or techniques. It was a platform for networking and broadening his influence.
Hollywood stars and upper-class socialites loved to indulge in discussions about art.
Photography, being a form of art, fit perfectly into this narrative. While not as costly as painting or sculpture, it still held artistic and collectible value.
For instance, Australian photographer Peter Lik's work Phantom had sold for an astounding $6.5 million.
By hosting an exhibition or auction, celebrities and socialites could flaunt their taste, while Ethan could expand his connections and influence.
His ultimate goal was to turn the exhibition into a charity gala, inviting stars, fashion icons, and influential figures. If successful, it would catapult him into the spotlight of the social scene.
However, he still lacked the necessary collection of works, which would be his next focus.
For now, his priority was the impending legal battle with Naomi. The court date was fast approaching, and he needed to settle the matter decisively to pave the way for his future plans.
Plans that included photographing private portraits of both male and female celebrities.
Yes, that was Ethan's real theme for his exhibition—embodying desire, channeling Aphrodite.
If others knew what he was planning, they'd likely call him crazy. But to Ethan, it was a triple-win scenario: the stars gained exposure, Ethan reaped connections and money, and the audience enjoyed a visual feast.
Better yet, it required little investment. If his photography gained a reputation for bringing good luck to films, stars would naturally flock to him.
As Ethan stepped out of Tom's car and returned to Jessica's house, he reflected on how much closer they had grown in the past few days.
Their relationship had deepened rapidly, but the intensity of their affection sometimes left Ethan feeling physically drained. Young women, after all, were passionate and insatiable.
Fortunately, Ethan was still young himself. Otherwise, he might not have kept up with their frequent and energetic "bonding sessions."
While waiting for Jessica on the sofa, Ethan chatted with a few other women.
Scarlett, fresh off her award-winning role in Lost in Translation, was now one of Hollywood's rising stars, swamped with offers.
Avril was in the middle of a nationwide tour, her music resonating more than ever with the youth.
Kayden was busy appearing on talk shows, her status as a national sex symbol firmly established.
Anne Hathaway, on the other hand, enjoyed a more relaxed pace, filming near New York while staying with her family.
After sending messages to each of them, Ethan couldn't help but think his life was becoming too hectic—but he was enjoying every moment.
"Ding dong."
The doorbell interrupted his thoughts. Ethan got up to greet the workers he had called earlier.
Meanwhile, on the set of Sin City...
"Cut!" Quentin clapped his hands in satisfaction. "Great job, Jessica. We're done for the day."
"Woo!" Jessica let out a playful whistle as she jumped off the stage.
"Jessica, how about grabbing dinner together?" A handsome male actor stopped her in her tracks.
"You're treating?" Jessica raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, I have plans today. Maybe next time."
"That's a shame," the actor said, clearly reluctant. "Are you coming to tomorrow's party? The directors will be there too."
Tomorrow marked their last day in the Los Angeles studio before moving to another location.
"Hmm, I'll see if I'm free," Jessica replied noncommittally, unsure of Ethan's plans.
"Alright, I'll ask you again tomorrow."
If it had been before, Jessica might have entertained the conversation longer. But now...
All she wanted was to go home and fall into someone's arms.
After changing out of her costume, Jessica drove home. However, as she approached the house, she noticed the lights were off.
"That's strange. Is Ethan sleeping already?"
Unlocking the door, Jessica stepped inside, finding the house eerily dark.
"Ethan?"
When there was no reply, she fumbled toward the cabinet to retrieve her phone, using its faint light to illuminate the surroundings.
The beam revealed dark streaks on the floor—unidentifiable but unsettling.
Jessica's throat went dry, her breathing quickening. Following the trail, she noticed a covered object on the coffee table.
Heart pounding, she reached out, gripping the fabric with trembling fingers. Closing her eyes, she yanked it away.
"Boom!"
A burst of confetti startled her, and the room suddenly lit up.
Looking around, Jessica saw the walls adorned with heart-shaped balloons and colorful decorations.
On the coffee table sat a large cake, topped with intricate chocolate decorations and a small plaque bearing her name and four words:
"Happy Birthday!"
Ethan emerged from behind her, clapping and grinning.
Jessica stood stunned for a moment before covering her mouth, overwhelmed with emotion.
"Ethan!" She threw her arms around him, playfully pinching his arm. "You scared me!"
"Sorry, Jessica. I just wanted to surprise you," Ethan said, soothing her with a gentle pat on the back.
Once she calmed down, he led her to the dining table, where an array of dishes awaited.
"Did you make all this?" Jessica asked, astonished.
"You wound me," Ethan said, feigning offense. "Of course I did!"
"Really? Ethan, I love you!" Jessica showered him with kisses.
"Come, my angel. Let's light the candles and make a wish," Ethan said, his tone warm and affectionate.
After Jessica obediently lit the candle and made her wish, Ethan and she began to enjoy their dinner.
Once they finished eating, Jessica suddenly grabbed Ethan's hand and pulled him upstairs to the gym.
"I also want to surprise you, Ethan. Wait for me a moment," Jessica said, walking into the changing room.
Ethan looked around. The gym was fully equipped, and there was a white curtain blocking the other half of the room.
Just as he was curious about what was behind the curtain, Jessica came out after changing.
Ethan's eyes lit up because Jessica was wearing a tight gray yoga outfit, which highlighted her curves in an incredibly seductive way.
In fact, due to the lack of some protection, certain details were even more enticing.
Then, she lifted the curtain, and Ethan saw that the other side of the room had a steel pole reaching from the floor.
"Pole dancing?" Just as this thought crossed his mind, he saw Jessica grip the pole with both hands, lift her feet off the ground, and invert her body on the pole.
This intense movement caused certain parts to bounce elastically, making Ethan involuntarily swallow.
"Damn, this girl has such a big surprise hidden away," Ethan muttered as he stepped closer. Jessica looked at him with seductive eyes, continuously rising and falling in front of him.
The various poses were dazzling, making Ethan feel parched.
But that wasn't the end. After several minutes of pole dancing, Jessica suddenly reversed her grip on the pole and pressed her back against it. She spread her legs wide, like crab pincers, and locked Ethan in place.
"Wow!" Ethan exclaimed. This time, he was the one unlocking a new pose.
Jessica laughed softly and said in a low voice, "Come on, Ethan, love me."
"Whoosh!" The white curtain was immediately lifted, blocking the view of the two.
What followed was a live pole dancing lesson, full of vitality and charm.
The next day, when Ethan woke up, he was still savoring the movements from the night before.
"Ethan, are you staying today?" Jessica wrapped her arms around his waist and slid her finger down from his chin.
Ethan kissed her forehead. "The court is starting today, you know."
"Are you talking about Naomi, that bitch?"
Well, it seemed that everyone around Ethan had the same description of Naomi, indicating that no one had a favorable opinion of her.
"Yes, I have to testify in court."
"Do you have confidence?" Jessica asked, worried.
"Don't worry..." Ethan smiled. "The clues I've gathered over the past few days are enough to nail her to the shame rack."
"That's good. I wish you victory." Jessica held onto Ethan's waist and gave it a little squeeze.
Ethan immediately felt his body come back to life.
"You're so naughty. Looks like you don't want to get out of bed yet." Ethan reached for her waist.
"Haha, Ethan, no, don't do that!" Jessica immediately started to laugh uncontrollably, begging for mercy.
After a while of playful teasing, they finally got out of bed.
After dropping Jessica off at the filming location, Ethan put on his sunglasses and said to Tom, "Have the witnesses for the court been contacted?"
"Yeah, there are five in total," Tom replied while driving.
"Okay, that's enough. I'm sure the judge won't believe someone with such a tarnished reputation." Ethan smiled. "Also, contact the media. I want the news of her defeat to spread across America as quickly as possible."
