Hogwarts: Legacy of the Necromancer

Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Aler’s Seven Sacred Relics: The Holy Crown of Thorns

"What should I do?"

Kari Klaus was a bit flustered. This was her first time using the magical skill of the dagger. Along with her panic, there was also excitement.

"I can't keep reminding you. Figure it out yourself!"

Aler's words instantly sobered Kari Klaus. For hundreds of years, she'd always relied on herself. Even when she sought foster families, it was only to exploit their sympathy.

If the dagger became stronger, she would become stronger. If the dagger required seven sinful souls, then she had to gather seven sinful souls. However, Kari Klaus had a principle—she wouldn't kill anyone with her own hands. So naturally, she could only achieve this by using others.

"Do you feel humiliated? Do you feel resentment? Do you feel pain? Kill him! Kill him! Kill him!"

Kari Klaus instinctively took out the dagger and held its hilt to her lips like a microphone. Whispers of Confusion activated automatically. All of Kari Klaus's thoughts were transmitted into the boy's mind. Even if he had never harbored such ideas before, these words would compel him to act on them. That was the terrifying part of the Whispers of Confusion curse.

"Kill him and you'll no longer suffer humiliation. Kill him and your resentment will fade. Kill him and the pain will end."

The boy, who was bent over the desk with his butt raised, had long grown used to the assault from behind. The priest had told him it was God's will, divine pleasure—he only had to stay in that position and enjoy it.

But now, everything had changed. The boy seemed to understand his situation for the first time. All the humiliation, resentment, and pain exploded within him. Why should he be deceived by the priest? Why should he endure all this? The humiliation the priest had inflicted on him, the burning resentment in his heart, the pain wracking his body—no one would save him. Only he could save himself. He had to kill him! Kill this bastard!

Suppressing the pain from behind, the boy turned his head and looked around. He noticed many items on the very desk where he was being violated.

At once, he shoved the priest off him and stomped down hard on the source of his suffering—again and again.

The priest howled in agony, rolling on the floor. He had never imagined the obedient little boy would suddenly rage like a lion and inflict such harm. He had to punish this little beast, make him understand that as a shepherd of God, he was untouchable. How dare a beast defy a messenger of God?

But the priest had no more chances. Just as he tried to raise his head to speak, what greeted him was his deluxe edition Bible. The thick, hardcover Bible—hard as a brick—smashed into his nose, breaking it instantly, and then slammed into his forehead, knocking him out cold.

And it wasn't over. The boy's goal was to kill him.

He grabbed a cross necklace from the table—one of the priest's most treasured possessions.

The cross, made primarily of platinum, was inlaid with gold thorns winding across its surface. At the center was a large ruby. The entire cross was dazzling, two inches tall and perfectly proportioned.

This wasn't something an ordinary priest could afford. Most priests only wore wooden crosses, but this priest was wealthy and had commissioned this ornate piece. Little did he expect to die by his own jewelry.

The boy shoved the cross into the priest's mouth. Though only two inches tall, it was more than enough to choke someone to death.

The priest, who had fainted, instantly awoke choking—but was immediately knocked out again by a blow from the Bible. Now he drifted between the pain of choking and the numbness of unconsciousness.

Even Kari Klaus, the one who orchestrated all this, was stunned by such a torturous and brutal death.

The boy struggled for more than ten minutes before finally killing the priest. Blood poured from the priest's mouth, soaking the cross. His forehead, beaten swollen, was now split open and bleeding.

Having accomplished his grim task, the boy collapsed unconscious beside the body.

"As expected of a sinful soul transformed from a clergyman. The power of this soul is exceptionally strong," Aler murmured with the satisfaction of having just sipped a rare vintage.

"We should leave now. Someone was killed here—it won't be long before the police seal this place off."

Now that she had obtained the sinful soul she needed, Kari Klaus was ready to leave.

"Don't rush! It's rare to find such fine material. It would be a shame not to take it with us. And don't worry about the police—I've absorbed this soul, so naturally I now know everything about this priest."

'Aler's words made Karlie Kloss stop in her tracks.

"This boy is the gardener of this small chapel! And the only priest is the one lying on the ground."

Karlie Kloss couldn't help but look down. Apart from herself, the priest's corpse and the unconscious boy were the only two present.

"So that means… we're the only ones awake right now."

Karlie Kloss found it hard to believe—it was as if a thief had wandered into an empty castle. It was almost too good to be true.

"The real question is… do we grab what we can and run? Or do we take over the whole operation?"

'Aler' reminded Karlie Kloss that they had the opportunity to seize everything. This chapel could become their sanctuary.

"Are you sure we can really do that? The church, the government, the local residents—have you considered any of that?"

The more she spoke, the more Karlie Kloss began to doubt herself. Could it be that after hundreds of years of experience, she still couldn't see through a situation like this?

Impossible. These were nothing but unrealistic fantasies.

"What's so impossible? You need to understand—I'm practically a priest now. Every memory in his soul is now my wealth and power."

Karlie Kloss could almost imagine the dagger 'Aler' picking its nose in contempt. She was being looked down on.

'Aler' had indeed absorbed all of the priest's memories—how the church operated, how wealth was managed, how the boy was manipulated.

So many memories, countless in number, had been sifted through. 'Aler' had learned a great deal.

"Alright then. What do we do first? Whether we're grabbing a quick haul or taking over completely, I'll follow your lead."

Karlie Kloss had never imagined that after gaining her powers, she would encounter something like this. A single spell had brought her opponent down, and the soul she claimed afterward had revealed all their secrets. She had never envisioned solving problems this way.

All of this was the result of power—or rather, strength. Without it, nothing could be done. With it, everything could be crushed beneath it. Whether they took a quick haul or seized it all was merely a matter of choice.

"Let's deal with the scene first."

Under 'Aler's guidance, Karlie Kloss pulled a necklace from the priest's mouth. The cross-shaped pendant had gotten lodged in his throat. It took considerable effort, but she finally managed to get it out.

"Thorned flower? I wonder if this cross could be part of the complete collection of holy artifacts."

'Aler' sighed as the cross was pulled out, his voice filled with anticipation.

"What? Does the pattern mean something?"

Hearing 'Aler's words, Karlie Kloss held up the necklace to examine its decoration. She noticed that thorny vines adorned the cross.

"That represents the Holy Crown of Thorns. According to the Scripture of Ordination, since Jesus was said to be the King, the soldiers mocked him at his execution by fashioning a 'crown' from thorns and placing it on his head. The thorns pierced his scalp as they jeered, 'Hail, King of the Jews.'"

'Aler' suddenly sounded so scholarly that Karlie Kloss felt a bit out of sorts. Was this really the same wicked dagger that used to laugh maniacally about rivers of blood?

"But this still isn't the real Crown of Thorns. It's just a decoration on a jeweled cross."

Karlie Kloss replied indifferently.

"Karlie, you don't understand. This isn't about authenticity—it's about symbolism. If you happen to collect seven jeweled crosses, each with a different design, while also gathering the seven sinful souls, that would carry extraordinary symbolic power."

'Aler' tried to convince Karlie Kloss, though the girl seemed far more interested in the jewel-like nature of the cross than its spiritual meaning.
