Chapter 201: Chapter 201: The Unrestrained Wizard Apprentice
"Aquarius is running smoothly. The crew has always been fully staffed, and new recruits are constantly joining."
[Si]seemed to imply something, but quickly led Regulus Black to the command cabin.
What kind of sight was the interior of the Aquarius submarine?
Even Regulus Black himself, who had once designed it with his own hands, felt a chill. It was utterly Cthulhu-inspired.
This was especially reflected in the crew. Back when Regulus Black had devoted himself to all sorts of research, he had created many strange species from his cauldrons—one of which was a brand new kind of octopus, which he named Extras.
Extras: A magical octopus-like creature with cross-shaped pupils and spiked skin. Its appearance was inspired by the octopus monster in the movie Deep Rising. Its eyes, skin, nerves, and ink can all be used as magical materials.
Not only could it move nimbly underwater, but it could also inflate its head and float through the air, adjusting its direction using jet propulsion.
In addition, it could devour and fuse parts of other organisms, then parasitize them—usually by consuming and integrating their heads.
Because of these traits, Regulus Black had named them Extras.
Now, all the crew members aboard the Aquarius submarine had octopus heads. A monkey suddenly jumped up onto [Si]'s shoulder—an octopus-headed monkey, in fact. It was the very one Regulus Black had used to test the Extras' abilities.
Every captain has a pet. Parrots and monkeys are the top choices: one can fly, the other can climb—traits that make them less likely to die at sea. So, after letting a young Extra devour and fuse with a monkey for experimental purposes, Regulus Black had gifted it to [Si], along with a batch of Extras.
Back onshore, after a brief and painful struggle, the policeman ceased to resist. The octopus completely consumed his head—they would now be as one.
The creature stood up, gathered and disposed of the officer's original gear, then leapt into the seawater of the harbor.
The Aquarius had already departed the port, but something needed to remain behind to observe the area and deal with any subsequent investigators.
A policeman investigating a case had vanished—something the police wouldn't easily overlook.
Soon, the London Metropolitan Police system began circulating rumors of mysterious disappearances near the small docks. Any officer entering the area at night would inevitably vanish, with no trace of life or body ever found.
After deploying a second team to monitor the first, they discovered that the culprit was a humanoid creature with an octopus head. Scientists joined the investigation, only to find that the monster's body kept changing. Every time one of the monsters was gunned down, its head would vanish, leaving behind only a rapidly decaying, headless human corpse—which, upon examination, was confirmed to be one of the previously missing officers.
It felt like a war. The police and military kept sending more personnel, while the monsters continued to attack. They had an endless supply of new bodies, and any injury sustained by the octopus-headed creatures could be healed by simply consuming more corpses.
After several months, the government could no longer bear the heavy losses of law enforcement and military personnel. They marked off a quarantine zone and evacuated everyone.
But Regulus Black would not allow his docks to go unused. Before long, he used his connections to buy his way back in and resume business. As for the illegal dealings—they continued as before. The police no longer intervened.
Why the monsters didn't attack the dock workers became a mystery.
All that, however, was a matter for later. Regulus Black had already set off for America.
In less than a day, the Aquarius arrived in the Great Lakes region. The magically enhanced submarine could navigate even seemingly impossible shallow waterways. Regulus Black soon reached the prearranged location.
Once ashore, his custom automobile was deployed. Captain Nemo's car had also been magically modified. It didn't even need a proper dock—it simply flew through the air toward their destination without hesitation.
Of course, they still had to use the roads. Upon entering the city and locating the address, Regulus Black instructed [Si] to bring the car down.
The previously invisible vehicle appeared on a deserted path.
At that moment, Lucy Piddle was also in America. The path Regulus Black had appeared on was the back entrance of Lucy Piddle's office.
"Regulus, you've finally arrived. Without your participation, many things couldn't move forward."
As soon as they met, Lucy Piddles showed no surprise and immediately placed the work-related documents in front of Regulus Black.
"You already know, I still have a very promising assistant teaching position at Hogwarts."
Regulus Black sat down first and signed the documents Lucy Piddles handed him. After all, his assistant had been waiting for these signatures for quite some time—this wasn't a joke. The young lady was genuinely upset.
Regulus Black walked behind his aloof assistant and gently placed his hands on her shoulders."You've worked hard. Let me give you a shoulder massage."
She had thought her lover might try something indecent, but instead, he lightheartedly gave her a shoulder massage, which made her burst into laughter.
"I'm not mad anymore!"
Lucy Piddles took the mischievous hands and guided them to her chest. As Regulus Black's fingers moved, she began to hum an enchanting melody.
Even for deeply affectionate lovers, long-term separation can erode feelings over time. And Regulus Black and Lucy Piddles weren't just lovers—they had an employer-employee relationship as well. Prolonged distance made Lucy feel like nothing more than a tool, even suspecting she was just a plaything. But all those thoughts were dispelled by Regulus Black's goofy shoulder massage.
A man who sees a woman as a mere plaything would never go out of his way to make her happy. They only deceive and harm, offering empty promises even they don't believe in. Yet the women—being in a vulnerable position—have no choice but to cling to those lies as if they were hope.
But that wasn't the case between Regulus Black and Lucy Piddles—not even close. Especially since Regulus was still willing to make her smile.
"It must've been tough being alone in America."
Regulus Black guided his magic gently across her body, loosening her clothes and sliding off her skirt. He softly pinched two "grapes" between his fingers, eliciting a long, drawn-out breath from Lucy Piddles.
On the large sofa in her office, she sat on his lap and gave a detailed report about work—venting all the frustrations and difficulties she had encountered.
"How's your magic training going? You didn't forget just because of a busy workload, right?"
An hour later, the two of them were still cuddled up. Lucy Piddles had already fully given herself to Regulus Black but remained in the same position, afraid the moment would fade.
"I've been practicing my magic. You only taught me ten spells. If I can't even cherish and master these, then I might as well admit I deserve to be a Squib."
Lucy Piddles had previously undergone a class transformation through the Red Nightmare Witch Monastery, becoming a Nightmare Girl of the Nightmare Demon Race. She then chose the subclass path of a Trickster Warlock—essentially a necromancer specializing in bones and poison.
"Look at this! I made them myself. I've been wearing this bracelet and these rings all the time."
It was a bracelet made from animal fangs, and two rings crafted from snake skulls—worn on her ring and index fingers.
Proudly, Lucy Piddles shook her left hand and showed off her creations to Regulus Black.
The necromancer profession typically required close affinity with bones and the undead. Ideally, one would even sleep in graveyards and converse with corpses to enhance their learning of necromantic magic.
The bone-crafted bracelet and rings were a decent substitute. After all, times are changing, and ancient practices are hard for modern society to accept.
Regulus Black hadn't told her to do any of this. The fact that she came up with the idea on her own already showed she was a remarkably clever apprentice witch.
