Hogwarts: Legacy of the Necromancer

Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Shut Up, Rufus Scrimgeour

Rufus Scrimgeour, current Head of the Auror Office at the Ministry of Magic, once criticized Kingsley in the original work for his failure to capture Sirius Black effectively.

After the Battle in the Department of Mysteries, he succeeded Cornelius Fudge as Minister for Magic. He often clashed with Dumbledore and was later killed.

Of course, it wasn't Dumbledore who killed him—he was tortured to death by Voldemort's followers. Even in death, he never revealed Harry's whereabouts.

At the end, he kept the secret that Harry Potter was hiding at the Burrow. In that sense, he could be considered a hero—he chose to die rather than betray Harry's location.

During his life, he repeatedly tried to get Harry Potter to publicly support the Ministry. Unlike his predecessor, Cornelius Fudge, he had a better understanding of Voldemort's power. Though he often disagreed with Dumbledore, he was an upright man who achieved some political success. He aligned with the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office and supported Muggle protection.

"All in all, he's a good man,"Regulus Black thought to himself.

"No need for tea. I'm waiting for Sirius Black to arrive so I can arrest him and send him back to Azkaban."

Scrimgeour tapped his wand repeatedly in his palm, as if no one present deserved his respect—not even Dumbledore or Fudge.

Take that back—this guy only looks like a decent person on the surface.Regulus Black rolled his eyes at Fudge discreetly.

That was clearly a rebuke to Minister Fudge for poor leadership. Fudge's eyelid twitched, his anger bubbling to the surface.

"Watch your words, Scrimgeour! We're here to investigate the truth of what happened back then. Sirius left Azkaban with the approval of both the Wizengamot and the Auror Command Office. What if your obsession with arresting him ruins this entire operation?"

If this lion-headed fool were his son rather than a subordinate, Fudge would have slapped him just to shut him up.

"Calm down, Cornelius. Mr. Scrimgeour is simply focused on doing his job."

Dumbledore didn't want an argument in his office, so he set down his half-eaten cockroach cluster and tried to soothe Cornelius Fudge.

Hogwarts' Headmaster still commanded respect, and Fudge had no choice but to stop scolding his subordinate and sit back down.

"Dumbledore! I have something important to report—uh!"

Snape and Hermione had just returned after delivering Ron to the medics. They immediately came to the Headmaster's office.

Snape hadn't expected so many people to be there: Minister Cornelius Fudge, Auror Office Head Rufus Scrimgeour, four other Aurors, and Regulus Black.

Clearly, this was either a strategic meeting or a response to tonight's events.

"Darling, how was your night?"

Regulus Black shamelessly extended a hand to Hermione, gesturing for her to come to his side.

With so many people present, Hermione didn't dare throw herself into Regulus Black's arms. Still, she obediently walked over and stood quietly beside his chair.

"A lot happened tonight. I don't even know where to start."

Regulus clasped her small hand in his, and Hermione blushed to the base of her neck under everyone's gaze—but she still responded clearly.

"You were present the entire time and witnessed everything personally?"

Regulus wasn't asking for the details—he already knew them. The question was meant for everyone else to hear.

"Yes! I was there from start to finish and saw everything."

Hermione glanced at everyone in the room, then replied firmly.

"In that case, there's no issue. Hand the brooch over to Headmaster Dumbledore. I have something else I need you to do."

Regulus set down his teacup and stood, signaling Hermione to give the brooch to Dumbledore.

Hermione gave Regulus a questioning look, then unpinned the brooch he had given her and placed it before Dumbledore.

"Headmaster, I'll be stepping out for a bit. My foolish brother still needs picking up."

Regulus took Hermione's hand and led her to the door. As they passed Snape, he paused.

"Oh, and I'll be bringing back my brother's godson too."

"Hmph."

Snape knew Regulus understood everything that had happened tonight, which meant Harry Potter's safety was assured. Still, being used like a pawn left him bitter.

Yes, Snape's intuition told him he had been manipulated.

"Hogwarts professors really are… unrestrained. That girl's probably only in third year."

Rufus Scrimgeour was clearly displeased with Regulus Black's blatant "flirting."

"Allow me to correct your mistake. Regulus Black is not a professor at Hogwarts—he's just a teaching assistant."

Though Snape didn't always get along with Dumbledore, he took Hogwarts' reputation seriously and immediately rebutted Scrimgeour.Love the school! Love the house! Love Lily!—those three principles never changed.

"Oh, come now. Regulus is still a young man—he might remain young forever. Besides, they're both willing participants. I believe children deserve the freedom to enjoy love."

Dumbledore fiddled with the brooch as he spoke up in defense of his assistant.

Oh yes, this brooch was a magical device capable of recording visuals—very delicate and quite valuable, judging by the gemstone.

"Shut your mouth, Rufus Scrimgeour! You've crossed the line several times today—completely unbefitting of a Ministry official."

Cornelius Fudge was seething. This Head of the Auror Office never respected him, and today he hadn't shown the slightest regard for the Minister's authority.

Still, removing him wouldn't be easy. The man was a real thorn in his side.

"Dumbledore, what's the purpose of the brooch Regulus left behind?"

After scolding his subordinate, the Minister finally turned his attention to the brooch in Dumbledore's hand.

"This appears to be a magical device that records images. I've just examined it. All you need to do is this: Legilimens!"

As Dumbledore chanted the incantation, magical energy surged into the brooch.

Originally, the Legilimens spell worked one-on-one—you used it on someone to extract their thoughts and memories, all without a third party's knowledge. It didn't produce visuals.

But with Regulus Black's modifications and a micro magic array embedded in the brooch, it now captured and replayed actual footage. Simply casting Legilimens would publicly display the recording.

Like something out of a futuristic sci-fi world, a 3D projection appeared before everyone in the headmaster's office.

"There's an opening beneath the Whomping Willow. Through it, you can reach the Shrieking Shack. With your skills, taking one person along should be no problem."

"When I get back, we'll go over tonight again."

Hermione flung herself into Regulus Black's arms and kissed him deeply.

Everyone watching seemed unsurprised. But the couple in the projection were no longer in the room—which made things far less awkward.

Then came the scene of Hermione arriving by the Whomping Willow, where Harry Potter was being battered by its branches.

"Hermione made excellent spell choices—Protego Totalum and Avis were used with perfect timing. Regulus trained her well."

Dumbledore offered a thoughtful remark. Fudge nodded in agreement. Only Scrimgeour looked displeased, clearly unhappy that Dumbledore was ignoring the "inappropriate relationship."

After a long journey through the underground passage, Harry Potter and Hermione reached the Shrieking Shack.

The door opened behind them. A scruffy, dirty man with long hair stood there grinning foolishly.

Hermione drew her vinewood wand and stood in front of Harry protectively, like a mother hen shielding her chick.

But Harry pushed her aside and lunged at Sirius. The two began to wrestle—or rather, Harry attacked while Sirius was caught off guard, with Harry gripping his throat tightly.

"To think I used to trust you, Professor Lupin! Who were you trying to kill? Harry? Ron? Or me?"

Hermione mustered her courage and stepped forward. This had to be made clear.

"Peter Pettigrew! It was Peter Pettigrew! That traitor—I won't let you get away. You're not escaping today!"

Sirius shouted, jumping free of Lupin's arms and pointing furiously at the three children.

The rat, Scabbers, squealed in terror.
