Chapter 5: c5
Plans in Motion
-West. The North. winterfell. Year 268-
Hariric calmly watched from his bedroom window. Five years ago he returned to the North and began what was obviously his mission in the world to make sure by all means that the North could put Southerners in their place. Nothing special or important. Just that he wanted to send a don't fuck with me loud and clear. But to start he needed money. Money is a freakishly large source of power after all and you will always need a way to get people to work. You could not expect people to work for free, no sir, since in the end that would kill people's love for you, although he arrived with many complications, he always had a plan.
If there was one thing he had loved about his grandfather Marius, it was that he taught him science fiction and science. With science fiction she learned about possibly the scariest subject of all: robots. The idea of a structure made of a super powerful alloy capable of moving like a human coming after you was terrifying. Of course he couldn't conjure a robot. It was impossible. That was why he created his special magic (which when his grandfather Arcthurus found out he was stunned) that he called the tide of shadows (altum Umbrae) was basically a massive spell that basically used matter such as stones, logs and other elements he gave them human form before giving them a more human aspect and that was a good use
Contrary to many idiots, Hariric thought that using Golems was not a good idea. A Golem was basically a structure of mud, earth, stone or even crystal and magma that had a cube-shaped core loaded with magic and power that was commanded by a magical being. Although as a massive attack force idea it was a good one (a single golem could be up to five meters tall with a body as hard as diamond itself if you wanted) they weren't fast so they were useless. That is where his spell was born since it replicated human qualities to give him the ability to do human work. From a single use he could create ten of them. But what nobody knew is that using the idea of the nucleus could keep the ten and create more.
The idea was good because when Hariric returned with everything he returned, he decided that it was time to start some plans that would make House Stark the most powerful of the houses of the seven kingdoms and that at the same time would rebuild the North in the structure that everyone should appreciate. I also did this because the Umbra didn't get tired and at the same time you didn't have to pay them. That and that they were obviously much more capable in the sense that as creations they were more than obvious perfectionists. That gave him a solid advantage over the human builders.
-Retrospective scene-
´´I told you my dear that there was no real need to worry in the slightest about our son being in trouble of all things. You should know better than to worry too much about him``. Rickard laughed at his wife's look even though he had his eyes focused on the heavy trunks that her son brought. He was no idiot and he knew from what he could tell that the trunks brought a more than useful load surely for all of them. He knew full well that his son would in no way waste time bringing anything that was useless anyway.
''Stop saying these things like it's nothing. As a concerned mother I have every right to be a woman who feared for the future of her child. You know as well as I do that those southerners are capable of anything. Look at all these ridiculous fights they've had throughout the ages. It's not hard to imagine that they could do something. Lyarra got up and immediately went to see her precious son who was smiling at her affectionately. Her great son was possibly a more than imposing figure despite only being eight years old. However, no matter how imposing a mother's fear seemed, it was a constancy that no one could shake.
´´You have nothing to worry about mother as you can see I returned perfectly safe and sound so there was nothing to worry about in this regard. Although I won't deny that I have to say that the South is an incredibly annoying place. Hariric smirked at his parents who were obviously trying to shower him with affection over the fact that they had got him back. He reminded her a lot of his aunt Andromeda of him. He sincerely felt that if it weren't for them he would not have felt any real ties to the North. But for the love of his parents, he was capable of anything to ensure by all means that they were healthy and safe, of course.
´´We will be the judges of whether you are well or if you are bad, Hariric, however, it seems to me that you are perfectly fine, so there is no need of any kind to question how you are. Although I have to admit that seeing you as you look bigger. You would have thought that after what southerners are like you wouldn't have eaten properly``. Rickard approached his son carefully. Despite only being an eight year old he looked like a thirteen year old. He would always be grateful for the speed at which his son's body matured and truly thanked the heavens that he was like that. But at the same time he wondered, had his son quickly lost his childhood because of this?
''What your father says is true hariric. You must understand that we haven't seen you in years. We didn't know how you were. We were afraid that those people from the south had somehow thought of harming you. I know it may seem a bit exaggerated to think in such a way but at the same time it couldn't be helped in any way``. Lyarra feared for his child and how he might have been. It was understandable. But her son reassured her with one of her cheerful smiles. Those grayish green eyes always filled her with joy because of how well they looked on her son. Lyarra was glad that he was more than okay if she had to be honest since he was her treasure.
''Mother, I think I'm fine with coming home. That's all I care about. However the good news is that I managed to discover the things that I had a great interest in if I have to say. It was good luck for me though you should have seen how hard the maesters went to keep me from learning as much as possible``. Hariric smiled at the look of his parents. Obviously they had been more worried than he thought but of course the South had a way of being more than unique and they were possibly afraid that they or possibly the masters themselves had tried something to prevent him from doing something important in some way. Very noteworthy to take note of to avoid being outdone in any way but at the moment there were more things to discuss.
''Your mother has reason to be concerned. Southern people do things one way. If the Freys even knew you weren't in the North they would have possibly tried in some way to get their hands on you. Walder Frey is a man that even I do not understand how the people of the South continue to tolerate his presence in the slightest. Walder Frey was the scum of humanity in his humblest opinion. A man who wouldn't hesitate in the least to slaughter and destroy everyone just to have a little more and who wouldn't be in the least surprised if he kidnapped his son to get something out of him.
''The worries both mine and your father's are for a good reason son. We know that you are very independent of yourself after all and at the same time I know that you are more than capable of taking care of yourself but one should never risk it for the greed of another person``. Ella lyarra looked at her son with a serious look that let her know that she was worried for a good reason. To her surprise, her son only gave her a look back with affection as if he understood her reasons more than anything for the mere fact that he knew that she was worried more than anything what everything was to her. a real consolation
´´I suppose there is a compelling reason to worry about the Frey. Those bastards wouldn't hesitate in the slightest to do a thing if they think they can get away with what they think will give them an advantage. I guess then that as a good son the only thing I can do is say thank you for worrying the way you do for me``. Hariric smiled at his parents in amusement as he earned clearly annoyed looks from both of them. Not that he could blame them. Possibly they were thinking that he was somehow joking with them or something like that. Not that he cared much. He really meant it. He was sincerely grateful that his parents thought of him in such a way and were genuinely concerned about him.
´´I only know that one day I will end up having serious problems. Anyway hariric I think I have to say there's a good chance you've had a few productive years judging by these chests you're bringing, is that all you got from your visit to the maesters?``. Rickard felt like his head was going to explode. His son was maybe making fun of them a little but he could tell at the same time that although he was making fun it wasn't really that big of a deal or rather it wasn't that much of a problem if you had to think about it. From what he could tell at least that was his personal opinion anyway. Although he could see that his wife was not in the same way on the same path
´´Hariric we understand that this may seem like a joke to you but it is not. You've been gone three years. Those three years you have spent in one of the western cities led by one of the families that most despise House Stark. Let me tell you, my son, that this is not the simplest or the easiest thing to do. I'm considerably surprised that you're actually in one piece. He lyarra looked at her son with a strong look that let him know that she was serious with hers. Her son looked at her for a moment before sighing clearly seeing that she was worried and Hariric clearly sighing for her mother. Not that she could say anything other than she was worried. What else could she say to her son? It was a losing battle
''I understand mother. And I'm really delighted that you are worried about me because that shows the immense love that you both feel for me. But as heir to House Stark my duty above all else is to ensure that the Stark family thrives above all else and survives whatever hell we find ourselves in. It is that simple``. Hariric sighed. Except for Andromeda and Melania, he didn't have much connection with emotionally close people except for his wife. He was so used to getting by himself that in this case he could tell it was more trouble than good.
''Your mother and I love you with our lives son. We will never let anything or anyone hurt you in the slightest but you must understand son that the only way we are able to take care of you is that we can all protect each other. I know this may seem incredible to see but it is very difficult to take care of yourself if you are far away and in the south``. Rickard sighed. He knew that his son could take care of himself. He had really shown it but that was not to say in any way that it was easier for him to accept that his son had been outside the northern borders especially in these dark times of all things.
´´Your father tells the truth, son. How would we be able to take care of you and in the same way as we would be able to keep you safe if it turns out that you are far from where we are? We are your parents and we will always worry about you. We want it or not. So don't scare us anymore with things like going south and other points like that``. Lyarra looked at her son with real concern between the war that had been between the firedark and the crown she supposed that getting to her son would have been one thing they could have tried somehow and that was why she hated that her son was so far away. Because it was a concern that she was so afraid of that he would end up in bad shape.
''I never thought of it that way if I have to tell the truth. I was just thinking of doing my part for the North. In helping the Norteños to have more dignified lives than the ones they have. To have the opportunity to really enjoy life instead of thinking that life is just the harshness that they have to live with day after day``. Hariric growled. If there was one thing he hated, it's how idiot Southerners wasted money and food and Northerners had to fight over the smallest thing. That did not mean that Northerners were less worthy of living a full life in his opinion and it is for that very reason that he did not respect Southerners in the slightest and would not deal with them unless necessary.
''You're fine son. We understand that what moves you is the interest of each Northern person. But we as your parents also have our desires. Seeing you live a full and complete life is one of these things so it's only natural that we want to make absolutely sure you have a good life``. Rickard sighed at how difficult his son of all things could be to deal with. He was very mature of that there was no doubt but at some points his son was still a child the proof was in the point that he had wanted to do everything necessary for his people without thinking about it
''But as your father said, our world is you. You and your brother to come since I think you should know that I am pregnant. You are going to be a big brother very soon. Lyarra laughed in amusement at how excited her son looked. Little did she know the endless love Hariric felt at that moment. One of the things that I never forgave Voldemort or Dumbledore for was depriving him of his entire family. He had a younger brother that he could have taken care of but was taken away from him. He didn't sit well with him. That's why she was doing everything she could to correct that and she felt that this was a perfect opportunity. Little did Lyarra know how happy she made her son with her words.
that's good. A brother…makes me happy. Mother father. I have to tell you something. I have been observing and learning the best I could. My intention has always been to help the North. And it was with this that I discovered that the maesters knew of foods that could be grown in the North. It wouldn't be easy but it would still be possible of all things``. Hariric could see raw anger appear on the faces of both his father and his mother. One of the main concerns of the North was food. Food had always been what to tell them now that there was a way to get food and thus be able to start having their own food without problem? If before they had anger against the teachers now it was much worse of course
''I should have known. He should have known that these rats would have a solution to the problems of the North and they would never give it. Always the same. Since we are northerners and we worship the old gods, please give us good. But since those of the south follow the Andalos and their faith of the seven may they be happy. Rickard was very tempted to go for Ice and start chopping heads. He was not happy at the time. He hated how House Stark had been hurt for so long and he hated with a passion how the North hadn't benefited from many things but this was already the point of no return if the maesters thought they could get away with it.
´´Rickard calm down, there is no need to let anger take over your heart. The maesters have obviously tried something to make sure we are weak but our son has finally broken his interest so I think your son of mine will have a well thought out plan of some sort to fix this``. Lyarra was not happy to place so much pressure on her son but she knew better than anyone that if there was someone to trust in all this it would be her son seeing that he was the one who had clearly brought what was her salvation or at least she could see it in the face. shape of one of the trunks. At least that was the opinion that Lyarra had about it.
''Mother I can understand the anger of the father. We have had in our hands the opportunity to make our people live more safely. Of not needing to buy food from the damned fish and therefore having to pay the Freys. I understand the father's anger. But although it is true that we have been offended, I believe that there are better things to do than let ourselves be guided by anger, father. We have to think about this in a much smarter way. Hariric could understand with his father. These people were his people. In a few words, they were under his protection and that meant in a few words that the teachers, by doing such a thing to them, had put him in a bad position that he did not like in the least, which is why he was as enraged as he was.
''I suppose you must have something or some kind of plan to make sure things don't go back to the way they are with the maesters, right Hariric? I don't like the idea of failing our people the way we have even if it's only through the action of the maesters we failed them first and believe me son when I say that doesn't make me any less happy``. Rickard was very tempted to decapitate Wallys and obviously send his head to the members of the citadel but he knew better. There would come a time when revenge would be available for his use but that time had not yet arrived. Had to be patient about it
Yes father. While I was in Oldtown I discovered exactly what foods are capable of growing cold and I also discovered much more information that in our hands will give us the opportunity to make sure that the North does not have to buy a single fish food ever again. which will give us full permission to start beating the Freys if they launch one of their damned Neek`` raids again. Hariric could see the vengeful smiles on both his father and his mother since it was a more than painful point that they could not intervene in any way in what was the Frey action because the bastards had them by the balls proverbial
''I see son that you have become something good. However, we still have to question exactly how we hope to do in order to get the money for the items to buy. If they are so resistant to cold, they should not be exactly cheap, so I am more than sure that it will not be easy for us to do``. Lyarra frowned, thinking this might put a nasty point in her plans to hit the fish back. To her surprise, her son smiled again before opening one of the trunks that was filled to the brim with sacks of different seeds so she could tell what earned her a more than significant surprise.
''I couldn't get seeds of all the different vegetables, fruits and other foods that grow in a cold climate mother but I spoke to a dealer who from what I understand should deliver a shipment of all other seeds in a little less than a week in Whiteport. In this way that means that we can certainly start possibly some good farm fields``. Hariric smiled amused at seeing his mother's face who was obviously surprised by what he had achieved while his father also looked at him more than impressed but the question was still there of all things if he had to say it how he had gotten the money for remove in a few words the seeds that now they had before their noses
´´This is very efficient work on your part, Hariric, however, forgive me and your mother for questioning you on this one, but how did you get the seeds that would be so needed for the North to flourish? And more importantly, how do you plan to plant them and where exactly for them to grow? Our glass gardens are big but not that big``. Rickard looked at his son with an interested look, obviously knowing that he could be in for a pleasant surprise that would be good to have in his hand if he himself had to be honest. His son seemed that he had made a real plan for the North if he had to say so himself which made him feel more than proud at that moment that his son clearly had a plan
´´It was not difficult but it was not easy either. Getting the seeds was child's play once I started to have considerable capital. It turns out that in the south they make betting games on their jousts and of course in the vicinity of Oldtown there is at least one joust every six moons so it was not difficult for me to get the money by betting on some knights who could win the jousts` `. What was not said is that he used magic so that the knights with the least chance of winning the joust would actually win so that in this way he would take out a considerable amount of gold that at the same time he won an incarnation of him since he could not let it go. knew that he had made a bet in case someone had the idea of coming after him
´´That was risky on your part but I guess in the end it was a sure win on your part from what I can tell anyway. Hariric I have to say my son that was good. But that's just one chest. What's in the other two chests that you found essential to show us so we can make God knows what plans you have in mind?``. Lyarra chuckled in amusement as her son made an amused face at that point. But at the same time she wondered what they could get in those chests that would be so worthwhile for her son. Little did she know that this would lead to seeing what was in a nutshell a complete sea change in the lives of the Starks.
-Present time-
Hariric smirked. From that meeting he went further. In the first chest there were the books about the skinchanger ability and many books about what were the foods that could be grown in their climate although in reality these books were basically created by Hariric himself who thought it would be better to make use of them. of said books if he had to be honest. This obviously brought a plan in his father's mind for what was the action of what had to be the increase in food production in the North. A good plan if you had to say so. What Rickard did not know is that Hariric had returned to do his thing
The different seeds he had obtained had a growth life a third shorter than most normal foods and a resistance to cold a third higher. He couldn't do much more but it was enough, at least in Hariric's mind, to put his plans into motion. That there were various farms throughout the territory not only of the Stark house but also of Dustin, Tallhart, Umber and Manderly. Saying that each house was surprised by the fact that they received it was funny of course but of course it was natural since nobody expected it.
When the work of establishing the farms near the different rivers or in the case of the Tallharts in the lake together with the Stark house was explained in a few words, it meant a lot since they soon began to see large amounts of food . Houses in the north had finally stopped buying food from the south in five years, which was excellent news. That along with the change in weather led many children in the North to believe that Hariric Stark was somehow an envoy of the Old Gods due to the fact that it was soon learned that it was because of his actions that they now had food (it was Stark himself). hariric the one who spread the word of his action of course)
But of course, before all this was done, Hariric had to put his plan into action to make sure that the spies and maesters of the North did not dare to send a message to the south in any way. Information is power. The best way to ensure that the North was protected was to contain as much information as possible from the North as it was receiving large amounts of food, so to do this he did three completely different things but at the same time they were immensely useful to the North in preventing the spread of information to the North. South which at the same time helped with the spies of the North although only two were working at that time
For that he had undertaken three steps. Number one was to give the lords of the Neek the book or rather a copy of the skinchangers. This was done more than anything to be able to employ some as spies in the North. In return, he also handed over the rice that could easily grow in the swamps on their land. This not only earned him the immense loyalty of said inhabitants but the ability to keep themselves fed which was a considerable advantage. Added to this, he also helped to have skinchangers to protect himself from the frey games that apparently Walder had turned into something like an event for each of his children once they reached adulthood.
With the skinchangers, he created his own spy network that his father obviously backed and supported, but to prevent the crows from reaching the south, he decided to go one step further and on top of that he did the incredible thing by creating a bird whistle. With this whistle you could easily control what was in a few words the journey of the crows which was a priority of very high importance to know who was speaking to whom. It was discovered that each mestre apparently intended to inform the chiefs of him and at the same time there were numerous spies from the Dominion and the riverlands. This increased Hariric's annoyance against them but instead of launching himself he thought and acted differently as he knew moving without thinking would be bad.
The last mode of action was easily the most difficult of all, which was obviously a still-in-progress plan deployed to his own agents in the south. Unlike the hariric north he would never ask the lords of the Neek to endanger his people in the south in any way. It could be many things but hariric would never put his people at risk in the slightest so he was searching and trying to find a way to do such a thing without endangering his people. It didn't matter much. Knowing what was happening in the south was an option but not necessary at this very moment in his opinion
With the food in his hands, Hariric soon began his second part of a plan and that was to inform him that the range of mountains south of Winterfell was littered with gold. A whole range? His father was shocked by it. So he did the obvious and wondered what to do to which Hariric replied that with the gold that he still had on hand they could get workers from both the north and the south to work on a fortress and at the same time mine for the mountains. Of course that would mean having access to a very important resource and only part of his plan. His father and mother agreed with that although it was more difficult to convince them to do the following plan because in their minds it was something they would not have expected.
Hariric wanted to completely rebuild Winterfell. Not that Winterfell itself was wrong or anything but hariric felt that if the Starks wanted to send a message of power and strength they had to make it clear that they were the complete power and ruling force in the North. His father and mother looked at him strangely for a while until he showed what his plans were for the construction of possibly one of the most important and remarkable fortresses ever known in the entire world, which at the same time made his parents surprised, although of course they questioned where they would get the material for it to which Hariric responded kindly
The reconstruction operation was mostly based on magic. It was to be the stronghold of House Stark. He not only wanted the place in such a protected way that even the gods would not want to enter it, but much more. The technique used for the construction was the most advanced for the future using techniques to create stone structures fastened by first quality cement maintained by iron bars. Of course you also had to take into account the plumbing that was not only to keep the entire fortress with water but also hot which was not easy at all if hariric had to be completely honest actually since the construction was difficult especially in Winterfell because of how things were
The good news is that his Umbra worked fast. The first thing that was done was to demolish the two walls that surrounded the fortress and move them away by enough, tripling in a few words the available space, which was a good idea. First, what was expected was done and the perimeter network for the two future defensive walls was established. The first would be a wall one hundred meters high and the second one hundred and seventy-five meters high with a distance between them of about thirty meters. The construction would use granite stones and be held together by a mixture of iron and cement although that was only the first part that took their Umbra a single month to get done (thank heavens for tireless workers).
When they finished the work, they created a moat between the two walls that would be filled with a special magical mixture that in case of aggression would turn the moat into a death trap. Also between the two walls there would be connections with drawbridges but instead of being made of wood they were made of magically strengthened glass. This was more than anything as a saying look how good we are. Although it might seem excessive, he would like to be able to send a nice message to fuck you. The glass bridge would be from the bottom up so it would be easier to defend if it had to be moved somehow and at the same time could be used as a way to easily send soldiers to the lower wall if it had to be done.
The gates in the walls were made of solid Corundum stone. It was not easy to make two doors but once again thanks to the knowledge of science plus the power of magic it was possible. To move the doors a chain system was used that made the doors open not in the expected and typical way of the doors but as a dam that was more efficient. However, Hariric did not stay still. Once the walls and gates were finished, Hariric using the knowledge of the Valyrians applied the Dragonstone making its walls a terrifying black color in the opinion of many people. The towers that there were actually a total of ten for each wall looked like war nests. What no one knew is that if everything went as he wanted they would soon improve even more.
The next point was the construction of the fortress. For a while he didn't know how to do it. He had so many ideas. So many thoughts but she didn't know how to do it so he decided to do what he knew best and try to do a trick. The first thing was to create what were four large towers. These were ten stories high each one of them which meant a height of thirty meters with a width of three hundred square meters. The first would be the tower of education as he himself called it. It had an elevator since each floor had its different interests with the last one being the aviary and each one of the previous ones destined for a different function (laboratory, library, home of the master of that moment, etc).
The second and third towers would be just as big and would be the towers of the Winterfell workers. That is, where the guards, butlers, stable workers as well as the workers of the different glass gardens within the fortress lived. The tower had all the basic measurements if you stopped to think about it. Hariric was a firm believer that the best way to get your people on your side is to make them both happy and afraid. This was the point of keeping them happy of course.
The next structure was the Keep where those visiting the North would be expected to stay for dialogue or diplomatic talks with Lord Stark. It was as much for the lords of the North as any lords of the south who come to see the North of course. It was also the place where a greater degree of comfort would be expected, not because of anything special, but because he knew the people and knew that if someone looked at the little ones and felt that they were not treated in the best way, they would get angry. that simple
All the turrets had a connection to the main castle caused by none other than fixed glass bridges. However the gates were only open from hour to hour. It was the great central castle that would impress everyone. The big castle had what was an entrance hall from which you could go to any of the castle towers. The seven towers were basically different structures. The lowest tower was actually a spa for House Stark. The second tower, which had three floors, had what was basically the kitchen and pantry. The other towers were basically House Stark's personal libraries, the state guest quarters (ie royalty and other high lords) and House Stark's personal laboratory.
The main room that was reached from the entrance had several things. On the first level was the reception room, which was basically where the nobles and pequeños came to request an audience with Lord Stark. The second level was basically the living quarters of the family members with up to twenty different rooms. The third level that was covered by what was a glass dome was the banquet hall. All well thought out so that the Stark family can boast of strength and power, all done with the most delicate art. And in all the towers, grounds and in the fortress there were wolf figures made of dragonstone on the outside with blood rubies in their eyes while inside the great fortress the floors and walls were made of white marble, high quality wooden furniture. quality and tapestries
Hariric knew that some would say that he had crossed three fucking towns just to show off House Stark but he had done it with purpose and hadn't spent a dime. All the money that had supposedly been used was actually a lie since his father did not know about the work of his Umbra that even after five years they were now working on the Winter City to turn it into the most wonderful form of construction. Meanwhile, his father had the workers finish the Winter Mines that were in the mountains and they had already started mining, which would be excellent for his next plan.
Hariric was sitting in his room looking at the data in front of him because thanks to Hedwig and his ability to fly and his connection he had been able to easily establish what was the information he wanted to know what Sea Dragon Point was and also of course the Stony coast. This was more than anything because he intended to make them and Moat Cailin the next strongholds of the family. He had three brothers after all and each of them deserved in a nutshell a stronghold to call home.
''My lord I have just been informed that the final lords have arrived. As expected, Lord Bolton and his allies were the last to arrive. From the information I could see they were more than a little upset about the rebuilding of Wintercity and at the same time they were looking enviously at Winterfell``. Howland Reed had become Hariric's information hand. As heir to the Reed house, he would become the information lord of the North after his father, which meant that he would have under his care the obligation to care for and protect the interests of the north above all else and ensure their protection from there that he was so close to the young lord Strark although it also helped that the neek was immensely loyal to him
"Let me guess Lord Bolton has already started spouting his comments about how we wolves are letting the interests of the southerners consume us by building a great fortress like we have, haven't we?" Hariric smiled. This harvest festival was the first that could take place after the winter they had spent. A mild winter thanks to his magic though it was due to this winter more than anything that the Winter Mines had finished after only five years of hard work though Hariric was happy with the way things were of course. Everything was good for him as long as he had the opportunity to fuck with the red alliance
Yes my lord. Lord Bolton is commenting with the other lords of his alliance that House Stark has obviously let your education in the south go to their heads if they are obviously wasting money on building this great fortress. Howland was actually impressed and when his mistress informed him that he had plans of his own for the neck for the Reed household to enjoy he knew immediately that he would be fine. Of course I knew that with the Moat reclaimed for House Stark it would mean that House Stark would have more of a presence but that wasn't all a bad thing in everyone's mind as it would mean that if the Freys moved a single finger they would end up in a very bad light.
´´Typical Bolton way of thinking. Since he doesn't like what he sees he feels it is his obligation to make it known that he believes he is above all else. One thing, is Dareon with the others learning right now?``. Dareon Rogare and one of his most important friends was a young man who had quickly distinguished himself in the fortress. His combat instructor had been amazed at Dareon's great skill and at the same time had been beyond delighted with his dedication to learning. Dareon as well as himself had become the example to follow for his brother Eddard. His sister, who still had to grow up at four years old, also seemed to have an interest in learning from what she had seen.
Yes my lord. Young Dareon Rogare as well as his sister Shelia are currently with the various teachers. Maester Wallys is even more unhappy than before though nothing could be done as he finds that the lessons taught by the old ex-maesters are more efficient than the old man``s. Howland had never trusted maesters as they had this unpleasant tendency to say what was true and what was a lie that in his opinion was a colossal mistake. Who were they to say such a thing in any way? And Maester Wallys didn't stop glaring at Hariric because he exposed him on many occasions in the worst possible way.
´´So from what I can tell it was a good idea to recruit more than obviously all these former masters who grew discontented with the order``. It wasn't easy but it was possible. Like any organization, the masters had a tendency to despise some of their members, among these members they were the least delighted. Some of them due to the poor progress in medicine or the lack of study of many topics. Hiring them had not been difficult thanks to your time in the citadel that had allowed them to know and discover what it was in a few words to people who were truly remarkable and to be taken into account. People with vision that is something that did not like to order. They liked the way things were
''You must know that Maester Wallys suspects that his letters are somehow intercepted by someone and that someone has reported an interest in something being done about the advance of the North. Wallys has found out about the mines and all the farms in the allies of House Stark after all this time``. Howland could see that his partner from his North was thinking carefully about the points to take into account. Obviously thinking about what action and what decision to make about it. But a dark smile appeared on the face of his northern companion, which did not mean anything pleasant.
''Then that means he has committed treason against the North. At the moment we will not do anything against Wallys. Moving against the man is stupid and pointless at the moment but at the end of the day his life is completely in our hands, any reports to be noted about the rest of the state of North Howland?``. Hariric smiled. He had wanted an excuse to get rid of the northern maesters. Maybe using the sense that the maesters especially the Stark maester was not loyal to the Ruling family would be good enough? Perhaps it would be the best option if he had to say it and that he promised to quickly end what was the threat of the maesters in his lands and thus eliminate a spy network from his domain. It would be a good idea although I still needed time
''My lord is as you feared. As soon as this was done, several groups have tried to take over the places. The Ryswell family has attempted to attack the Dustin family's various farms. The Tallharts have been attacked by the Glovers. The Umbers for the Boltons. And the Manderly House Plantations by the Hornwoods. However, neither attack has been efficient``. Honestly, he had to question where the brains of the members of said houses were when they thought that they could attack the people who were under the protection and defense of the Starks without thinking, since obviously there would have been consequences of course to such an action.
´´Well it seems that the way we have done things has hindered the action that is all that really mattered to me. I suppose Bolton and Glover houses have been the least affected. The Ryswells may not have fared as the Dustins aren't idiots and I guess the Hornwoods have tried to make some even more stupid game``. Hariric sighed. Although some would think it was strange, the truth is that he knew that the attacks would not have as much effect since he had ordered the construction of walls about ten meters high around the farms to protect them against attacks by bandits. They had all agreed that they would become a possible target for sure although in reality he knew that there was a good chance that they would be their rival houses.
´´Actually all the attacks ended with the deaths of the assailants completely. No survivors were left. The raiders seemed to think it would be easy and simple but all the houses fully followed his advice regarding the defense of the plantations and also put up considerable amounts of security. Apparently the number of southerners who have arrived has allowed the creation of a more or less acceptable safety net``. First rule of warfare if you want to get as far as useful things always prepare for a bloodbath unless you are smart. The assailants proved to be complete idiots who thought the screaming would be enough to scare him off.
let me guess. The workers are southerners while the guards are northerners. No wonder then that the attacks have failed. Along with what is that there are small walls, archers and people capable of fighting. And no house could afford to field large units. Maybe groups of ten for each of the villages. I guess we'll have to send a message``. Hariric smiled knowing that this could be excellent news more than good for him. But Howard hadn't finished giving him the good news about what could be seen at that moment since the man had much more to say than he had actually thought and this had to be a surprise.
''Actually my lord I think I have to tell you that the little people of the lands of Bolton and Ryswell are leaving their lords' lands in large numbers. Although it is true that there is no difficulty in acquiring certain things, such as working in the mills and little else, the harsh reality is that they want more work that would allow them to better feed their families. Ryswell and Bolton try to contain him with their troops but he is not doing as well as they would prefer him to. The few mills that he had were used to grind the wheat that was obtained from the south of before. Now it was quite obvious that the North would see a radical change of power just because of this point and well the reason was that the lords of both lands were not the best people.
´´I suppose it was a possibility that really should have been considered. The Boltons see their little people as mere insects and Ryswell are no better. The Umbers follow our example for the series of benefits it has been for them but in the past they would have been just as hard on their little ones in reality``. Hariric smiled. Everything worked perfectly if he had to actually say it. His plan was to weaken the houses and make them slowly lose ground and that was working perfectly if he had to be honest. Besides what Hariric could tell, the loss of small would mean a decrease in land control capacity which was more than excellent.
´´House Glover as well as their main vassal house the Whitewhills are slowly losing more and more people to the Forresters. The Whitehills have complained to the Glovers and have actually started a series of disputes with them. The Glovers are planning to call in both lords to sort it out but in reality they plan to settle the issue in favor of themselves and the Whitehills not only to seize the Forresters' grove but also to remove the main threat to their position``. The Forresters were a threat to the Glovers so they were obviously thinking of treating them as such. Little did they know how inconvenient it was for them and how Hariric would exploit this right then and there.
´´The Glovers were once one of the greatest allies of House Stark. He was about to let them be. Making an example of others but obviously it is better for us to have the Forresters as allies than I can really say. Well said, House Stark will also benefit from this, seeing House Glover lose a large amount of power and being threatened with direct intervention from House Stark``. The best way to say to settle it was by letting Mr. Glover know that the issues were known and would be discussed here and not in a place where it would obviously be two against one after all. It was the best way to settle the whole matter
´´While it is true that in their day they were vassals of House Stark and incredibly loyal my lord, you are forgetting that House Glover was once a house that was queen of its own territory. They think of themselves as kings and only bowed to the power of House Stark. The current Bolton has poisoned the mind of the Glovers making them believe that House Stark is weak now and they think they will get away with it. They obviously didn't think so well. Howland sighed. He knew that his current lord would not take kindly to the betrayal of those who were his vassals. He had proven that those who were loyal to him received great gifts (the plantations were only the beginning after all) but if you were a traitor there was no hope for them.
''It is a sad pity. Anyway for the moment we will do things as planned. We'd better go. Our parents are possibly waiting in the meeting room where each of the gentlemen will be. I'm 100 percent sure this is not going to end well if I have to be honest. Hariric could see the Bolton family making demands of what was happening with House Stark. At the same time he could tell that some of his own allies would ask questions. It was time for him to shine and to show that House Stark had a new diamond in the rough that would make the world look in a completely different way than ever expected.
''With all due respect my lord it was obvious from the start that things would turn out this way if I have to be honest. However, if you say things the right way, it doesn't matter what the Boltons think or what the other houses believe, because in the end, the one that will triumph will be the Stark house. You just have to know how to raise it``. Howland knew that his lord could speak. But in the North only power and strength were respected. When Lord Ryswell or whoever he is talking to tries to make him look bad he would have to make his point clear to make sure that no one and nothing dared to contradict him in any way. Brute force might be necessary
Hariric for his part knew that today was the day he had to show that the Starks were a wolf for a good reason. Bolton house. Ryswell house. Glover house. Hornwood house. All of them would question whether they were making the right decisions. They would all be taking up the question of whether House Stark was in its right mind. Well, biewn would be sure to make it clear to all of them that House Stark would be in the hands of the right person in his future. And that if they didn't want to earn his wrath in any way in the future they should do their best and shut up unless they want to have a problem with him of some kind. And he would make sure they learned it the old fashioned way
-Winterfell: Meeting Room-
Redsart Bolton was a cold man. He felt that the North belonged to House Bolton, and for the past nearly three hundred years his family had slowly undermined the support of House Stark with the hard work of making them understand that they were cowards. That they were weak. The Bolton family was proud of his work indeed and happy to be turning the people against the Starks against him. Unfortunately for him there was a point and that is that the common people preferred the Starks over the Boltons because of their ways of being less harsh with the little ones and exploiting them in the same way that should be done
He had the backing of Glover, Hornwood and Ryswell. Three powerful houses against the Stark house, the Umber and the Dustin. The Tallharts and the Mormonts were weak, and the Manderlys were easy to break. Now he had been working on winning over the Karstark who for some time although they backed the Starks along with their own faction were also more than a little annoyed. And he found it unprecedented when the eldest Stark son was sent south to learn. He scoffed at the stupid move. He had thought everything was fine…until three years ago when things began to happen that he had absolutely no leeway against.
It turns out that the son had returned with unexpected knowledge. She knew more and she knew better. He had obtained food seeds that could grow in his climates and then distributed them among his allies so that they could grow them. He soon saw worse in the form of the pequeños from each of the houses vanishing in a constant trickle or in the case of the Glovers having the matter that they were losing them to the Forrester house which was a very strong ally of the Stark. All because of the doomed boy who had somehow made possible a dream of making Northerners basically self-sufficient in all things and couldn't stand it because he was backtracking on his plans.
He and his allies had sent raiders to attack the farms in the hope of doing great harm to the Stark boy. What neither he nor anyone else counted on is that although the places were not heavily fortified it would still require a truly military attack to be successful and that would immediately target all of them as part of some kind of conspiracy to attack members of houses. He slowly he could see the power that House Bolton had created completely shatter under the power and dominance of House Stark something he was beginning to hate with an immense passion if he had to be blunt. And he got so much worse now
Because now he was in the Stark seat of power and he was stunned. The city that was forming around the Stark Fortress looked like it was going to be huge. Besides that there was the point of the Stark structure. It was basically colossal and a message of power and strength. How could the Boltons really compare to it? There were also glassware and all the work done. No matter how you looked at it, House Stark had just made the impossible possible and become an even more formidable enemy. He could see his allies shudder knowing that the Karstark block would never side with him because this structure meant one thing and one thing only: money. House Stark had access to money somehow.
With one last look he entered what was called the meeting room. In the meeting room he was in what appeared to be an elevated position that had been reached through what he heard was an elevator. Once inside he was greeted by a room with white marble walls and floors with a table as black as night with touches of silver on it and comfortable chairs clearly made of quality wood and fine leather. There were two chairs per place, one for the lord and one for the heir. Behind him, his son Roose shuddered because he met Hariric Stark's eyes, eyes that even today were scary for his son.
One by one the gentlemen began to sit down while a group of ciradas entered with crystal bottles filled with an amber-colored liquor. Then the crystal glasses were placed and each received a portion of the drink. Lord Stark sat with his heir on his back as he got into position. Rickard Stark was a big, strong man, but his mind was just as dangerous. Redsart shuddered. If he knew that his coalition had somehow been attacking food farms he could see his head beyond severed. He honestly preferred not to be in the middle of his wrath thanks to him because even though he could be dangerous he had no doubt that he would be hit.
''Once again we gather after a winter at this harvest festival. I'm sure there are people with questions. I'm sure there are people who think you have lawsuits. I'm going to settle matters immediately and we'll do it our way. Now tell me, ladies and gentlemen, what do we start this meeting with?``. Rickard could practically see the anger in the eyes of some certain lords while others viewed things with open interest. In the case of his allies, they were obviously more than interested in how all this could have been possible, of all things, wanting to know above all else what exactly was happening at his house.
´´I think I speak for everyone when I question you Lord Stark to know how it is possible for you to live in a place like this``. Lord Ryswell could not fall. He caught Bolton's look but didn't care as in his eyes this was completely won just by pointing out that the Stark lord of all things lived a life far superior to the people who were supposed to be under his wing. care of him. However, Lord Stark just looked at him. He stayed where he was looking at him like he was dumb in some way. To the lord of the horses he was clearly seen as insignificant and he did not want or intend to tolerate that in the slightest. But before he could say the least, Lord Stark decided it was time to respond.
´´To respond to your words, Lord Ryswell, I will say that it has been incredible. First, House Stark does not have the need to buy food from the South thanks to the newer farms that the North has. Umber, Dustin, Tallhart, Manderly. All these houses now produce a great deal of food in the North. Along with House Reed and the lords of the swamp. Now for the first time in years we produce our own food, which is more than before``. Rickard could clearly see that everyone in the room was paying attention to him. Perfect, that's what he wanted. But at the same time Glover didn't seem happy at all. It was the most normal if you had to think about it since the man looked like something incredibly annoying still
´´And yet you live here in an impressive house that we can say is monstrously big and good while the so-called gentlemen who are your friends and are producing food from the north do not have the same luck``. Goblet was about to say something else when a quiet laugh was heard. All the lords looked at the young Stark heir. He had a kind smile. Some would even say nice. But he had cold, stone-hard eyes. But with a shade of green that was scary. Everyone in the room felt like they could have stepped on some proverbial deep shit if he had to say it which was not a nice thing to know in his opinion.
''Excuse me Lord Glover but it almost sounded as if you were saying that the money I earn in the south through many jobs would have to be given to each lord. I used it for House Stark and the benefits it was. Right now the Stark house had the need for said profits and I honestly don't see why you of all people are someone to tell me the least I do with my money``. Hariric looked annoyed at the lord who thought his plot had gone completely unnoticed. Unfortunately the other lord was short tempered and being spoken to in such a manner by the young stark lord was not something he wanted but something hariric knew he would do at that very moment.
´´Why is a fucking child that has barely hatched from its mother's breast speaking at a meeting of lords?``. Nobody saw it coming. It was too fast. Hariric got up from his seat and before anyone could do anything Hariric had crossed the distance that separated them, he got on his back and slammed his face against the black wooden table causing an unpleasant creaking sound. All the gentlemen clearly looked at the act without knowing what to do, but Rickard only sighed knowing that this would be the response of his son before hitting him two more times against the table in the area where he was sitting. Each lord looked at the young Stark differently and they were all clear that he was not good at fucking with him.
''I am Lord Stark's son. I don't like it when a vassal of mine talks to me like I'm a dirty part of the wall. Although my father could decide to be nicer I am not. Get lucky this isn't the south. If it were, you'd be dead on the way home. Your children would have died and your wife raped in the worst of ways. Remember that when you compare me to those pussies from the south. Hariric grunted though inwardly he was satisfied. One thing he would have loved was to use his personal pain curse but slamming his face into the table was enough in his opinion and still incredibly satisfying if he had to say it himself since he sent the right message.
´´It seems that my son had to put it the hard way. The money used in rebuilding not only Winterfell but Wintercity as well as Winter Mine in the south are courtesy of the gold that Hariric got in the south since it seems the pussies of the south did not take kindly to a boy from the North coming to earn a knowledge that they did not want to give him in the least``. Rickard could see clearly surprised looks from all the lords of the North who were now looking at him in surprise for not knowing exactly what was going on in his mind. What the hell had his son done, is what they were possibly wondering? Not that it was a problem
´´I find it hard to believe and with forgiveness I say this that a child is capable of paying for the work of thousands of gold dragons. Sorry if I'm curious but I find it hard to believe of all things that you have somehow come up with a way to earn large amounts of small gold``. Ryswell spoke coldly again with what was a touch of anger. The idea of Lord Stark's son being much more intelligent was a dangerous idea if he had to say so himself as it completely threatened his plans. If the boy was clearly smarter than he looked then that would be enough to make House Stark look better.
´´Well is what you get when you know how to play games of chance. I also earned a considerable amount of resources from southern lords who instead of paying with currency they paid with resources. As you can see this fortress and what surrounds it is curiously the work of the nobles of the south who kindly paid for it without any doubt and if you have doubts you can always ask my father since he is obviously the one who watches the profits arrive``. Hariric smiled seeing the gaze of the noble lords. All of them obviously dissatisfied at that moment clearly with what was a child who was smarter than them, although using magic he made sure that they did not ask the important question, how did it take so little to make this construction?
´´It seems that the Stark heir has more where he comes from honestly. I really like what I see if I have to be honest so thank you kid for this. However, is it true that it was you who discovered the plantations that are capable of withstanding the cold of our beloved home? Because according to the teachers there was nothing like that. It would be quite a kick in the ass for their pompous asses if I have to say so. Jonrum Umber laughed in amusement as he saw the different lords who obviously had no affection for the young Stark and the alliance lords put in their place. In his opinion it was a great victory that should be appreciated for what it was in his personal opinion.
´´Yes I did and thanks for the appreciation. Not that it was an impossible job or shit like that. It was just a complication because maesters don't like anyone telling them they're so full of shit. In any case, despite this, I think I can say that things turned out well. I came back with money for the projects I had in mind and here I am``. Hariric laughed. The Glover's look of pure unadulterated fury was there but the man was smart enough not to say anything more about it obviously fearing the consequences of saying even one thing that hurt him. Obviously knowing that he would no longer stop
You've mentioned projects so I'm guessing your young Stark has some plans you want to bring to the table. My exact question is what are you planning for the North and what could be its more than obvious effects?``. Wyman manderly was calm and seated. At his age he knew that this was no ordinary child. The young Stark before him was anything but a worthless child as the other lords saw him. He was possibly a very threatening young man if he had to say so himself. Very curious if he he he had to understand it. He could say with complete certainty that it would be something to see in the future to see House Stark flourish as it appeared to be.
´´My more exact question is: What is this Winter mine? We had no idea of such a tract of House Stark land. Lord Bolton thought he had seen a weak point but he fell when those eyes looked back at him. Why? Why did he feel like they were looking right into his fucking soul? He was pointless in his humble opinion. But Hariric did not lose his smile
´´…they are my plans to make the north the most powerful kingdom``. And so the pandemonium broke out
