Chapter 30: c30
Surprise events and negotiations
-Poniente. Asgard. Winterfell-
-Room of the King of Asgard-
Hariric felt his head hurt. He was having a hard time thinking at that moment. But he ended up opening his eyes. I was in his room which was good. What he didn't expect was to have two women in his bed. One was his wife which he would always agree with since only an idiot cheats on a woman (especially one who knows how to kill with magic).
It was the other woman who surprised him. Her olive skin. Brown hair. He didn't have to be a genius to know who he was. Elia What the hell was she doing in her bed? Trying to remember she got into her occlumency. Despite what many might believe, with occlumency you had access to every memory you have and you forgot nothing.
With sovereign effort he began to catalog his memories. It wasn't too difficult to reach Eia's memories and find out what was going on. Last night she was explaining to them both that there was someone with magic out there who was dedicated to possessing people. Elia had immediately freaked out and Ashara had responded by taking out the Whiskey.
After that the questions and contributions began. Ashara made it clear that if it was possession magic, the best way to prevent it would be through enchanted magical artifacts to avoid that. Obviously Elia had agreed with the danger of a person not being cared for properly.
Things got wild after that. Ashara began by telling Harry that Dornish women were not like those of the other kingdoms. Where the women of Asgard were tough as dirt, fierce as a wolf and resilient beyond a doubt, the women of Dorne were hot and passionate. And she ended up proving that by kissing Elia right under her nose.
Despite the magical resistance he had, he had taken a Fire Whiskey by himself which had more than affected him. Needless to say, seeing his wife kiss her best friend and the other not rejecting her and actually starting to grope her was something else he had not expected (When she was a nymphadora it was the same, the number of lovers she brought to house was amazing).
Then Elia got up and started dancing. A slow and sensual dance. He couldn't take his eyes off her actions. He ended up on her lap rubbing himself and giving her some heat. And then she kissed him before Ashara looked on. And well the rest was history. Drunk adults who were very tense sex is a great stress reliever.
He growled. She should have known that his life was not simple. However, one look at Elia was enough to tell him that she was happy. Fuck, what kind of life had she had to not have a damn smile behind a night of sex? Was sex with the dragon bastard so fucking bad?
Ashara felt her husband wake up and smiled. For a while now she had wanted Elia to join them in bed, her reason for that? Piss some more on Rhaegar's grave and make her best friend happy at the same time. Besides that she had always liked a good fuck with an attractive woman and having her husband going at it was pretty good in her mind.
I knew he wasn't exactly upset about what had ended up happening. In fact he was happy. From the look he was giving Elia he knew he cared about her. He couldn't say that he blamed him. Her husband had a very complete gift for being attracted to unique women. And Elia was unique.
She didn't have to be a genius to know that her husband was giving her a very bad perception of what Elia's life had been like. Not even the sex was good enough for her? Damn what a shitty life that must have been. For her, she knew that her husband saw an intimate situation as something that should brighten your life.
As she looked at her friend she realized that what her husband thought was true. Only judging by Elia's peaceful look did she know that she must not have had a good time. That bastard didn't even give his wife a decent life before thinking of her grandiose plans. Idiots like him deserved much worse than death for their actions.
She felt her husband's power in Elia. She wouldn't be surprised if he got her pregnant. And knowing Elia she wouldn't be unhappy either. It's been three years since he made sure to cure her. Of her poor condition because of what was her premature birth. Of Pycelle's poisons. Yeah. Harry had been a better lover and much better than he could ever hope to be Rhaegar's bastard.
She also had to admit that seeing her friend so damn happy brought a smile to her face. It was pretty obvious if you thought about it that Elia wouldn't be missing out on the opportunity to keep this up. Loneliness sucks. Feeling alone because you don't know if you will be loved is even worse. Really, her friend had her little trust issues.
Looking at her husband she began to place kisses on his neck. She didn't feel him tense which meant he already knew she was awake. Damn her ability to feel was still terrifying. Seeing him look at her with the same love as always made her know that he was happy with how things were for the two of them.
''She looks very happy. I never thought she would have such a bad life to think that being with a person who almost cost her and her daughter their lives would be a big deal.' Harry looked at the sleeping woman and thought about how bad her life had to be just to be happy next to her. She was getting her hopes up. She almost got herself killed and that should be on her mind.
''You might be surprised how bad life is in that snake pit. How could a mother willingly send her daughter to be raised and married there? Just imagining what could happen to anyone who has no control over their life is horrible.' From Ashara's point of view the very idea of having to go to the capital was complete bullshit.
''Everyone is impatient, fighting over who gets where and everything. Frankly I've always found it stupid. Your main concern should be your kingdoms. Your families. You'll tell me how they can think that gambling on that well is worth it.'' The mere idea of imagining what it would be like to have to deal with southern politics made him want to vomit.
''It is what is expected of us my love. May we just be pieces on a big board. The truth is that if you stop to think about it, you Northerners were the smart ones. "You had more shit to worry about than the stupidities and waste of time of politics." Before Hariric arrived, the northerners had concerns to address other than politics.
''ha. Possibly that shit won't be in the cards anymore. Now the lords of the North will look happy and capable and will think that anything to increase the prestige of their houses will possibly come in handy.'' He didn't give it one hundred percent since all the gentlemen had enough to do but he could see the mentality grow over time.
''maybe. However, it is difficult for me to see things happening just like that. Especially when you have the army on your side. No man will want to start problems. And unlike the dragon lords, you do have power. Ashara scoffed. The dragon lords were weak and useless while hariric was anything but.
''I'm not attracted to headaches and I prefer to leave it to others. However, I will be the first to say that if anyone plans to turn my kingdom into one of vipers like the south, I will have their fucking heads on a stake.'' Hariric growled. The very thought of his precious kingdom turning into shit like the south infuriated him.
''You have always had things clear. But tell me, what do you think of Elia? I know you have your mind racing a mile an hour thinking about what to say about her. In trying to reach conclusions. And I ask you not to think anything less than pleasant of her.'' Ashara didn't want her friend to be unhappy in hell. And Harry had been an excellent example of a father to little Rhaenys.
''Ashara I was almost responsible for the death of your daughter and yours. If he had done better he could have gotten Lyanna back and we wouldn't have this fucking problem. Instead I thought that since they had screwed me over they must suffer for their actions too.'' There were times she hated nemesis blood. Yeah. She gave him great power. But the consequences worried him from time to time.
''What happened was not your fault at all, husband. If Rhaegar hadn't been an idiot this wouldn't have happened. If the imbecile fire priests had not insisted, that would not have happened. In the end, what matters most, my love, is that the culprit was not you in any way.'' She sighed. She knew that her husband might have some time to consider himself guilty. The funny thing is that he blamed himself more for what he almost happened to her friend than for what she did to others.
''Possibly it wouldn't be anyone's fault. But the truth is that things could have been resolved in many more ways. Damn, I'm sure I could have seen more of a fucking solution to that than just trying to have their heads on pikes.'' He would no longer allow himself to be dominated by the blood of Nemesis. Letting himself be dominated by it was so bad that it wasn't worth it in his mind.
''Well at least you have things clear. Anyway, do you see her unhappy? Yeah. She was close to death. She was close. But you didn't allow it. Instead of letting her die you saved her. I can almost call you her knight in shining armor my love." Ashara laughed amused and smiled even more when she felt the anger in her husband, obviously upset by it.
''I am not the hero of anything or anyone. But I will always be a person who takes what she does seriously. Letting something happen to Elia when only her damn husband was responsible for her? Let something happen to Rhaenys? Damn, it's not going to happen in any way." Harry refused. Not after he learned of Tywin's intentions and what he had planned. There were monsters. He was possibly the worst type.
''and that is why she is madly in love with you, my black wolf. How can you not fall in love with a person who takes responsibility for what he does, huh? How can you not fall in love with a person who makes decisions according to how things really are?'' She smiled at her husband. It was just too funny to watch him trying to say things weren't one way.
''You, my wife, can be a true lady of conscience. Well I won't deny that she is attractive and if I have to be honest the truth is that she is very nice. "I just hope nothing bad comes out of all this." Harry smiled at the woman happily knowing that things were far from bad for her. If she had to say it, Elia would have a better life even than she could imagine herself.
''and that's what I wanted to hear. Plus you can't deny in the slightest that it's fun. Besides, I think you love her daughter as much as if she were your own. Don't try to deny it my husband. Ashara laughed at the annoyed look her husband gave her. It was quite obvious that he hated it when people reminded him of a great truth that was beyond annoying.
''You really can be a pain in the ass darling. Anyway, I better get up. A very hectic morning awaits me. I have to respond to complaints and comments from people in the different production areas. And then I have a meeting with the representative of the iron bank and with Asshai.'' No. It wasn't a morning he was exactly comfortable with if he had to be frank.
''A very screwed up and hellish morning awaits you. One with many people waiting to get your approval and much more. Frankly I feel nothing but sorry for you. You better go get ready for the day.'' She didn't feel so sorry for hers since she had her own job. She was also in charge of what was the bank of Asgard and she had a lot of work to do. And if the deal with the iron bank went well it meant that the work would be later for her.
''You don't seem too happy. Well I leave you. Frankly, having to deal with those idiots from the bank who think they can come to our kingdom after the monumental mistake they made makes me have little desire to deal with them.'' Harry growled. After the betrayal he wanted nothing more than to tell them to go to hell, was that bad for him? He didn't fucking care.
''don't kill him for the moment. Who knows, being able to see them squirm could be the most fun. Just remember that they are not beyond all kinds of dishonest tactics to get their way somehow.'' No. You didn't have to be a genius about it. If the bank didn't come out happy there was a good chance they would try anything.
''If I had my way, those bastards would know my intention. If they had their way you would be dead. Our children would be dead. Everything I have built swept across the earth and destroyed. No. I'm not exactly in the mood to forgive them.'' And it wasn't just his Nemesis blood that screamed for revenge. As a father he knew that his family had been in danger just because of that.
''You won't see me against it. In fact, I can assure you that you would have my full support to see them reduced to ashes. To see your so-called fabulous bank become less than nothing. But you have to be patient. Let them believe that we are not angry enough yet my love.'' Yeah. That was his patient and waiting nature. Because if she were Nymphadora she would have completely said about eradicating the entire city.
''Well. Leave. Enjoy your time in bed before you leave.'' With a final kiss Harry stood up showing off his physique before putting on some clothes and leaving, leaving his wife calm on the couch.
Ashara smiled lovingly at her husband. This is what she liked most about him. She took his words seriously and most importantly she tried to do things the smart way. Besides that she was not blind at all and she knew how to see the consequences of his actions which she was much more than most noble idiots.
As she thought about it, she realized that things were going to change a lot, although she would not deny that she was happy with the changes. If things went well for her family they would soon begin to expand. This would also be good since although Asgard had a lot of ground to cover they still had to create more and more cities that were responsible for more and more businesses.
As he thought about it, he smiled, feeling his stomach. She didn't know if it was possible but she believed it was possible for her to be pregnant again. She could imagine her husband's look at that. He loved babies and he loved his children. The idea of raising his children was possibly one of the things she liked the most and made him smile in her life.
But while he saw that he thought that things would also get difficult for them. This magic practitioner, where did he come from? The older the magician is, the more powerful he becomes but at the same time his resistance is impoverished. This person was able to make this possession which was no joke. They couldn't trust him and leave him to his own devices.
He would have to put his own skill into it. She was a very good practitioner of rune-based magic so she boasted of being the most capable of ruining the day of her enemies. She had an idea of how her magic could be more effective and she had a lot of knowledge of magic modified by her father since although a doctor was always interested in magically improving herself.
With a final sigh he was smiling more than anything thinking about how happy he was. It's true that she didn't have a television and damn she thanked the gods that her husband reinvented plumbing and hot water. But here she had opportunities to learn magic and much more. She frankly just felt that life had given her a wonderful opportunity to be happy.
As he thought about that he realized that Elia had not moved at any time. She considered it for a moment before approaching her. Her response was immediate because Elia almost stood up and gave her a slight look of shock at what she had done while Ashara just laughed in amusement at the look she was giving her.
Elia had woken up a while ago but the feeling of the warmth of a human body was one thing she couldn't escape, could anyone fucking blame her? Even when Rhaegar got married he preferred to be away from her by being in her own room. She did not have her needs met, which back then were still nothing compared to now.
Rhaegar was the worst kind of husband. He was not a good father. And she had learned that he intended to have her marriage annulled and take her daughter from her while having him kill her and then force Lyanna Stark to be with hers. Through her he intended to recreate the Targaryen dynasty. She kept talking that from them would come the great power of ice and fire.
She felt disgusted with the man in question and there was nothing she wanted more than to tear him into pieces. But what could she do, huh? She was a woman in the south. The level of power women had in the South was negligible to say the least. In the best of cases, a woman in the south could act as regent and that was it.
His mother had thought she could cajole the prince. Turn it into an important piece of Martell power expansion. His poor mother. If only she had known how false that was. The prince was a bastard who only thought of himself. He had no sexual appetites. He only did what he did to have an heir.
Once the maesters told her that she couldn't have any more children. At least she had the decency not to tell her father, but he was already thinking about killing her, so she didn't see why she should care. At least she knew with joy that this man who had saved her from her valued her more than that bastard could have done, which was putting it mildly.
And then he healed her. She didn't know how she did it but she healed her body. If only she knew. Elia Martell didn't know it, but Hariric had used dragon blood that the maesters had stored in Oldtown as well as other magical medical elements to cure her of everything. And the result is the splendid woman you had here lying in bed.
Elia felt surprised. Hariric didn't care that he had killed so many people in the war. He had not cared about the merciless massacre of several houses, including some in the north. No. The only thing that had mattered to him was that because of the war she could have died. She just stood there stunned. She never liked to think about what she could have been.
Many in the south may think that Hariric Stark had no conscience but she knew better. If she had a conscience. If he had an ability to know when he had done something that he thought was wrong, how did he feel about that? Well she could tell that it was a pleasant feeling that made her think that she had more good in a being like Hariric than even in her so-called mother.
''You are a very naughty girl. Eavesdropping while your lovers talk. You should be punished. What could I do with you? There's so much I could do to you and I'd have you begging for so much more.'' Ashara laughed amused. If she had to be honest, her sexual magic had always been a good taste that she had and she knew that Elia would go crazy for her.
''I was just listening a little. Waking up in the arms of a man is something that I have to admit is a more than satisfactory feeling. I have never been able to say that he shared the true warmth of the bed with anyone.' Elia smiled at her friend. The night had been truly crazy if she had to be honest. Who knew that her friend was as skilled or as powerful as her lover.
''Just enjoy this luck for a while. I guess that can be done. But just so you know, Harry is really worried about you. I guess he still has some feeling in that stone heart of his.' She knew that Elia was possibly affected by what was essentially her husband admitting that she worried him.
How am I supposed to feel Ash? The number of men who would care like this about a person in our situation is low. "Either we are a relief for them or we are just the mother of their children and a way to satisfy them." Elia was surprised that Harry admitted that he was interested in her and he was very nice since he made her feel happy.
''Yeah. Most idiots are raised with that. In the north most marriages are for love. His parents married for love and believe me when I say that Hariric married me as much out of duty as love. If he cares about someone he will and nothing will stop him.' Ashara laughed, amused just by the look of her friend. Who was going to tell her? Elia was affected by her husband's feelings.
''It just seems incredible to me. It's just hard to understand, he doesn't care about killing thousands and yet he cares about something? Let me be the one to say that it is a complete rarity that makes me question reality itself.'' Yeah. She didn't know what to think about it. What could she say about it? There were so many things that she didn't know how to express them.
''Well, if it makes you feel better, my husband is not only soft because you are a friend of mine. He meant it true when he admitted that he feels responsible for your situation. He thinks he is to blame for you and your daughter almost dying. I think that should tell you something.'' If there was one thing he would always be remembered for it was that he was and he felt responsible for his actions and no one would blame him for it.
''You know what that says, don't you? A man who knew me for fewer years than my blood brother cared more about me. Doran did not listen to my requests to leave the capital. I asked him for help, do you know what he responded with? "That it would look bad for the future queen and mother of the princess to abandon her kingdom." Elia didn't know what else to say about his brother.
''Doran was always an idiot who didn't know how to value human life. For him all things are seen in a game and he thought he was in control. Hell he thought it was a great idea to keep Lyanna kidnapped in the tower of joy where he thought he could use her to blackmail my husband in case he won.' He talks about stupid. He frankly found such thinking idiotic.
''Doran really didn't even think about it. He didn't even try to reason it out. He just believed that what he was doing was the best. And now a man arrives who makes me feel like a woman and what is more important is incredibly affectionate with my daughter like a father would be. "No wonder you were loyal to him above Dorne." Elia knew how loyal Ashara had been to her mother and said a lot for her to go to Hariric.
''It wasn't that simple Elia. To tell the truth, things were rather complicated. When i married hariric i had a plan. Move him slowly to convince him to support Dorne. Did you know he wanted me to support a campaign for Dorne to conquer the Stepptones Islands? "That was my plan." Yeah. It was kind of true. Before recovering his memories, his plan was to only subtly manipulate the man.
''If that's the Ash that grows up in Sunspear. The woman who was not afraid to manipulate, use and leave behind those who were inconvenient to her plans. And yet she turned her back on that.' Elia couldn't blame her friend. Frankly, Hariric did not present himself as a manipulable ruler. He had a partnership with his wife. He wishes more husbands were like that with his wives.
''Yeah. And then I realized that he was far from being a manipulative imbecile idiot, intelligent? Look at everything he has created, ruthless? No comment. But the most important thing is that when he committed to something he fulfilled it. And that won my heart very easily.'' It was reality. Ashara had to admit that it was her dedication and work that made him become her confident husband.
''and then Doran demanded that you choose between remaining loyal to Dorne where you would have nothing or being loyal to a husband who had given you heaven itself if you had asked him. "There was no point of comparison." Doran should have done her homework when she tried to use Ashara to kill her idiot husband.
''Yeah. But it wasn't just that. I thought about what it would mean to me: a wife who kills her husband and then refuses to advance military forces to eliminate those who were against the interests of her house? No. My children and my lineage would never recover from that shit. "There would be all kinds of problems." It was just the smart thought if you stop and think about it.
''Doran put you in a situation where you had to choose and in the end you chose what was most valuable to you. Hariric Stark gave you the world if you asked. And instead Doran asked you to give up everything just for a worthless guarantee.'' Yeah. Doran hadn't stood a chance. Doran's inability to understand people was his downfall.
''If only that were my friend. No. What definitely turned me against Doran was that he basically didn't care about the fate of my family. He was just a pawn to be used. With hariric dead my family could be used however anyone wanted. And he was there like a shark about to sink its teeth.' Yeah. That was also something else. She realized that she could only trust her husband and her family.
''By the gods, what a fucking problem. Hariric at least knows how to win over people at least well enough to be able to make families grow strong and powerful which is more than anyone can imagine.'' Elia laughed amused now. Where her brother made sure to break all possibility of emotional contact, good old Hariric was capable of competing for him.
''Indeed, how was I supposed to compete between a man who put me before me as one of the most valuable things in the world and a man who would throw me away like I was trash from another day? There was no fucking point of comparison. Yeah. The difference between hariric and Doran. Doran would sacrifice his family without hesitation. Her husband would erase the world for his family. Big differences.
''Well that's a decent thing. Anyway, we better drop that topic before something gets out of control. I think what I most want to know or at least think about is my new lover being so affectionate. What do you know about what we could do now with all this?'' Elia laughed at what it was like to have a loving lover who adored her. Damn if every night was like the last it would be hell.
''ah, for now I have work to do. Harry left me in charge of the Stark seat on the winter bench so it makes sense for me to check on him to make sure there are no problems. If only you knew how much work there is.'' Like Ashara she had always been interested in the bank. When she was Nymphadora she had no interest in that. Damn how things change.
''Then I better look for a job. Look for a job. What a unique idea. Most of the ladies in the six kingdoms stay at home doing nothing and I'm thinking about getting a job. I wonder what face they would all have in response to this action.'' Just imagine the look on most of the uptight shit bitches who seemed to think they were above everyone just because they were married to southern gentlemen.
''pffff please don't even say it, can you imagine the face of that uptight queen of the south? "That Lannister is an idiotic bitch who seems to think she is above everyone else just because she has blonde hair and green eyes." Ashara just laughed in amusement. The idea that said woman would even think about comparing herself to them in any way was very funny to her if she had to be honest. Her friend looked at her for a moment before nodding.
''Yeah. You are doing nothing. I don't feel like spending the morning plotting and trying to improve my political situation. Drinking all day would do little good. I won't say no to getting laid but Harry has ruined other men for me. So I have to say that things are not easy.'' Yeah. Elia Martell was not afraid to say what she thought. Was there a problem? Well, screw anyone who thinks it's a problem of some kind because she didn't care.
''Then become whatever you want. I highly doubt anyone will tell you shit about how things are. Hell, if just one person wants to tell you how things are just because you want to work, send them to hell yourself.'' Ashara scoffed. She could remember Lord Karstark's complaint that she should not have a say in the bank since she was a woman. Fuck him is her response.
''Yeah. It seems that despite your husband's attempts there are still those who are incredibly idiots who are incapable of thinking about anything other than that they are men and therefore above women. Frankly it's annoying." She had once seen Harry put an uptight noble boy in his place by saying that women had to stay home. Said boy saw firsthand the king's cruel opinion of him.
''Yeah. Most people ask us: Who do we plan to marry Belladonna to? And we have our difficulties. Because every man will treat her like property and I honestly see my husband put a sword to the first idiot who tries to think that they have authority over her.'' If there was one absolute reality that Ashara could say, it was that anyone who treated her daughter like shit would come out badly.
''At least we can say that we are lucky. There is a person who does not treat us like prizes. "I wonder what he will do to make sure our girls don't find themselves treated like glorified prizes once they get married." Elia couldn't see letting that man marry Rhaenys nor his own daughter in the south knowing that they would be little more than hostages at best.
"Knowing my husband the way I do I have the guarantee that any idiot who simply thinks my daughter is a game piece or a toy will face a slow and painful death at the very least." Ashara had to admit that the chances wouldn't go well for any moron who somehow thought they could use her daughter in such a way.
''well let's wait. Now I think you have to go to work. I will go elsewhere to look for any possible job. I wonder what I could have as an opportunity. Elia smiled, amused at the possibility of being something more than a trophy wife or woman. If she had to be frank the idea of not being any of those things was better than anyone could think.
''with the attitude you have and your kindness...doctor. You have that air of kindness. Doctors must be empathetic people and you are. Plus you have a good head so I can see you being able to take control of the hospital which is much more than anyone can expect.'' Yeah. She could tell that her friend had enough potential to reach high in her chosen career.
Elia smiled at her friend and felt good about herself, how else was she supposed to feel? The truth is that being a doctor seemed good to her. How many times did I want help with her condition and they just said, screw you, that's what you have? Yeah. Being a doctor sounded like a field in which she could see her time wisely invested.
Besides that, if I had to be sincere, the idea of being able to tell all those narrow-minded maesters that there is a woman much more capable and skilled than themselves is saying something. If she had to say it, things could get much better for her given the way her things were. Being able to help other people didn't seem bad at all so she decided to pay attention to Ashara.
Ashara saw her friend's intention and decided that what she was thinking was perfectly fine in her mind. If she had to say it, knowing that Elia wanted to be something more and do many more things was perfectly fine in her mind. Why the hell wouldn't she be? In her personal opinion Elia would have to do more with her life than thinking about what she could have been.
Meanwhile he sighed and stood up. He would have to go to work. He worked at the bank and controlled House Stark's money and investments. She had a very important job and she would be damned if anyone thought she would let anyone steal even a single copper from her. With that decided she stood up and took one last look at her friend before going to the bathroom. He hoped Harry would be gone by now or he would have a memorable moment and maybe even be joined by Elia.
-hariric's office-
Hariric was studying each of the claims that had been made courtesy of merchants and other people. Every day he allowed up to five complaints to arrive for attention. It could even be more but today that couldn't be because he had two meetings. And no one would take away his time from spending time with his kids.
The good news is that things were reportedly good, more or less. Nobody was going to complain about being worked to death or anything like that. In addition to that, it had been shown that now, thanks to the new Don that previously belonged to the Guard, they had more farmland, which was good. The Cassel house transmitted nothing but good news about what was happening up there.
The most surprising thing is that clans of women and children had been found coming from the north who wanted to cross the wall to make their lives. It was only after much caution that such a thing had been allowed and quickly the city of cassels filled with people. As usual, there were some problems but the women who were great fighters found it good to serve the city guard.
Non-combatants from the True North welcomed the job opportunities. Thanks to the improvement of agricultural methods and much more it was easier. It was still hard work but it wasn't that bad. And thanks to medical care people had a much better life which was good news in Stark's opinion.
The arrival of the savages I miss. But apparently the women who came were trying to escape from something, which led him to believe that the specters were becoming more active. Between living up there and dying with their children and the option of being down there and growing up and seeing their children live, it was pretty obvious what they preferred and what they decided on was something he had to admit was a good thing.
Of course the presence of the savages was received in a mixed way. Some gentlemen were openly against it, like Rickard, who had declared that it was stupid to let them pass and that they should die of nothing more than hunger in the wasteland that was up there. Others commented that if it was possible to unite both populations it would be better because it would mean an increase in population.
With each passing day I felt that trusting Rickard was rather an exaggeration since he seemed to pick fights over the slightest. The man seemed to think that because he was family he wouldn't punish him. Arthur Dayne was paying for what he did so in his opinion he could punish him in the same way and ruin his family which was much more than could be expected at least.
The situation in the North was not bad. He trusted Ashara to take care of the economic affairs while he ran everything in the kingdom. It was certainly a headache that required dedication and time. More importantly, some idiots could be a real pain in the ass to deal with.
Apparently some minor northern nobles were of the belief that he should change certain things. For example the first night. Seriously he had to ask if they had so little confidence in getting laid that they needed to ruin any man's wedding by being able to do it.
They had talked about the right of lord and more shit. Look what most of the gentlemen are like who knew that there were things that they couldn't even touch. So he decided to be simpler. He only answered if what they wanted was that when they were going to have a relationship, their superiors made the same demand that they were making.
They shut up very quickly. And just in case he had assigned guards to make sure no northern lord thought about that shit. When he caught one he made sure the punishment was exemplary. And the reason he was respected and feared is that with him it didn't matter who you were, you broke the law and you were screwed.
Anyway after leaving that absolute bullshit he got on with his own things like preparing for an iron bank meeting. The bank seemed to think that going to it could be good news and that it would even give them good treatment. After the shit they did to him by colluding with the Boltons he was very tempted to fill everything bravos with Valyrian fire and light a match.
He waited patiently when a few moments later a well-dressed man entered through the door of his office. Obviously his suits were making a name for themselves since the man was wearing a suit. The guy had a dominant appearance. Obviously this was not a small fish. No. They had sent a fucking heavyweight from the bank in order to make the negotiations work effectively.
The man was obviously no idiot. He had that look. The look of a person who was tending to another predator. He naturally wasn't one of the bank idiots who seemed to think that just because they were from the bank they had an advantage of any kind and therefore could do anything shit. Well that was good of him.
The banker looked at the man in front of him and his assessment was accurate. He wondered what the hell those idiots were thinking when they did the shit. They had a good deal and they completely blew it. It was natural for this man to be furious so he was the one who had to smooth things over to try to fix the shit everyone was in.
''It is a pleasure to meet you, King Stark of Asgard. At the outset let me say that I apologize for the serious mistake made by members of the bank. "They were adequately punished for what was the loss of the contract." A little-known fact about the bank is that the bankers were held responsible for the loss of any contract. If it was simple bad luck, nothing would happen. But if the reason was poor management, the punishment was exemplary.
''A sorry doesn't fix anything. My sister was kidnapped and raped by that bastard of a prince. My wife could have almost been killed if they had won. And my children would be dead. No matter which way you look at it, things are not good." Making things very clear is what had to be done in this case no matter what. There was no middle ground in this.
''Believe me, Your Majesty, if you could go back in time, you would personally have put an end to the idiots who even suggested the idea of breaking an agreement. A word for a banker is the most important thing. "His actions had more consequences than his majesty can imagine." Yeah. If he could go back in time he would kill them. Where did they get their ideas that the North was fucking weak?
''I can imagine very well the consequences of what the destruction of that contract was like. It was not only the monetary loss of the contract itself. People now look carefully at the bank fearing the consequences of making agreements with them fearing that they may break them. "It was an idiotic move." He was just telling it like it was.
''We both have to agree on that. It was the poorest strategy. You'd think they were taught to see it. I fear it was jealousy as well as confidence born of the belief that numerical superiority would triumph over your kingdom.'' They should know better. After all he looks at what the Unsullied did against the Khalasars every time they fought.
''You have come here to negotiate. However, I warn you right now that I have no intention of returning to the same agreement. Due to your actions we had to spend money and resources rebuilding the eastern fleet to make it more capable of supporting the commercial weight as well. "That is money spent that will take a while to be amortized." Yeah. It was money that would take a while to see again in their coffers.
''I don't blame you for what the action of the members of my bank was and believe me, I'm not here for that. I know trying to recover lost business is stupid. No. What I have come to do is ask if the kingdom of Asgard would be willing to enter into business with the city of Braavos.'' Yeah. I at least knew that the monumental screw-up had to be smoothed out somehow.
''Forgive me for putting it this way. What guarantees do I have that the iron bank would not try any trick of any kind to screw my kingdom? You've already done it once. You took the side of my enemies. Once is enough from my point of view.'' In his opinion, trusting someone who already betrayed you once is the stupidest idea you could have.
''I guess suspicion is to be expected. I don't know if there is anything I can do besides tell you that the new administrator will make a contract in which he will specify that there will be severe consequences for anyone who even thinks about breaking the contract.' He cursed. He cursed the idiots who tarnished the bank's reputation. The damned greed had cost them a fair amount of reputation.
''I can't make a decision like this lightly. Now I represent an entire kingdom that must be interested more than anything in its benefit. Before I could more or less act. "Now I'm afraid I will have to discuss this very carefully." As far as he was concerned he wanted to tell him to go to hell. If they had betrayed him once they could do it again.
''I understand. And in fact he has my support. The attitude of previous members of the bank was less than adequate. "They acted on promises that even I consider impossible and their consequences would have been more than unpleasant." If an offer is too good to be true, don't screw it up. You had to be an idiot to believe that prince's word.
''I'm glad we both agree on the same thing. I will agree to meet with you at a later date to arrange this. Give me at least a week. "I have to meet with several people and from there we will come up with a plan." He would have to meet with his wife who was one of the members of the Asgard bank and also meet with his economic minister. He talks about headaches.
''That's all your majesty could ask of you. Have a nice day.'' At the end the sigh. It was the best thing he could get out of all this and the bank representative knew it. By remaining as people who could break his word they had destroyed much of his credibility. The previous members of the bank had lost everything but the bank lost even more.
Hariric sighed as he considered things. He didn't know what else he could say about it. His instinct was screaming for him to distrust the bank. Contrary to what the banker thought, he knew more or less what happened that day. It was Prince Rhaegar who went to the bank and offered them new opportunities and advantages that would clearly be very favorable in exchange for support.
the reason why they acted? It might be surprising but the reason they acted like that was more than anything because certain members of the bank resented how their representative had grown in power. He managed one of the most efficient accounts that handled the largest amounts of money. And they didn't like that so they had wanted to put him out of business for being an upstart.
After the war ended he explained things to his representative who agreed to leave the bank. The only reason the bank didn't kill him is the threat of him letting it be known that they broke his word and tried to steal his kingdom's business. In the end the bank knew that he had a lot to lose if his reputation was dragged through the mud. They were more or less intelligent.
Harry wanted to growl at the situation he was in but he didn't have time to do anything else when the door to his office opened and let someone in. He was dressed up in robes which meant you couldn't tell who he was or what gender he was. However Harry's magical senses were practically awake at that moment due to what he was feeling.
''Greetings your majesty. I have to say…it's an honor to know you. "I have a lot to say but I guess the first thing is to say thank you for what it is to bring down the faith of the god of fire and shadow." The stranger was a man and his voice was soft. The man was looking at the king of Asgard with interest from beneath his cloak. What surprised him was that even though he didn't look like it, he was alert.
''so you are Asshai's representative. The city that is where most magicians go to see their arts have a chance. I have to admit that I'm curious about whatever you have for me. What exactly do you plan for me?'' Harry knew how to see a person with interest when he had them in front of him so he didn't need to be a genius to know that whoever he had in front of him had his own plans in any case.
''You could say that I have to come because my city wants to reach an alliance with the kingdom of Asgard. In return...the doors of knowledge of eight thousand years of magic are open not only to you but to every practitioner of magic.'' And if. That was a very generous offer.
