Chapter 27: c27
-West. The North. The neck
-Camp of the six kingdoms-
Jon Arryn looked at the impressive structure that was the city on the south side of the Twin Wolves. That structure was one of the biggest problems when planning any kind of plan for a northern conquest. No matter how much he thought about it, the city split in two was well defended enough to deliver a good message.
It had taken three months to get this. A lot of work and effort in which they wanted things to go well in order to have a chance. Unfortunately it was not easy.
Originally they had thought of having Hariric Stark come to the south. But after that it turned out that it wouldn't be possible due to one simple fact: his reputation was stained by him. Due to the actions of the previous king things were far from merciful for them. In fact they got worse if he had to say it himself since the good old Stark had made it very clear that it would be a very cold day in hell before he set foot in the south so that he could be imprisoned and used in some way.
The plan had been so simple. Lure Hariric Stark south and take him prisoner. Of course some would say it was without a lack of honor but it was Tywin who would take the blame and the man seemed to have no problem with it.
However, to his misfortune, he quickly discovered that this was not going to turn out as he wanted. Damn Hariric Stark seemed to know his intentions before he rained the shit down on them.
Which meant he had to have deep-seated spies. And that terrified him. How many possible plans could Hariric Stark have in mind for all of them? How much could he know about it that he didn't want him to know?
He made a real effort to plan his way out of this mess and problem but everything he thought of was thrown out. If Harirc Stark didn't go south he knew they had to go north and that wasn't part of the plan.
He didn't want to step foot in the man's territory fearing he would take them hostage or something. Knowing that it was something that he could do to that man, it was logical that that same man would think of the same idea if you stopped to think about it. It wasn't a nice thought but it is what it was and there was nothing to change it. That's why he was surprised when Hariric met in the open in front of the Twin Wolves to have a discussion.
Jon sighed. The last few months had been exhausting. Tywin Lannister had wasted no time making it clear that the only way for him to support the crown was for him to marry his daughter to Robert. With Lyanna dead, Robert no longer had the excuse that he was compromised of all things. It didn't matter how you could see it and it didn't matter how much you could think.
In the end Robert had no choice but to marry Cersei Lannister. Said wedding had consolidated in a few words the crown with a super power. Now all that remained was to bring the north back into the fold and lower their tempers about it. The problem is, well, they didn't have an easy way to do it.
For Robert it was simple and they had to remove Hariric Stark from the position he was in. Obviously they could try. But no one in the North would accept it. All the lords of the north had accepted Hariric Stark as their lord and it was pretty easy to tell if you stopped to think that they somehow believed he was okay.
With his intention to become independent, he will have made more than one lord feel comfortable with him and more than one see him as the action to be expected from a true Stark. It didn't matter how he looked but what mattered in the minds of many is what you are capable of and he was not wrong when he said that Hariric Stark had the attention of all the lords of him.
Of course Robert was determined to see his best friend in the exalted position if he had to say so himself. It was a position that would be strong for them but that depended a lot on ned. And knowing Ned as he did he knew that he was very loyal to the family so the chances of convincing him to join a coup to depose his brother were low.
And that's not counting, of course, the situation that the North of all things wouldn't accept one who turned against his own family. If the Boltons still existed he would have entrusted it to them but they had been wiped out. Hariric Stark obviously lacked compassion for his enemies which actually made him feel afraid.
I was looking so intently at the structure that I didn't notice when a man was coming. Tywin was also looking at the impressive city. Its black walls of Valyrian technique. The door made of stone instead of wood. All he screamed was power. Only a jerk would challenge power and Tywin realized more than anything in this case that the odds were against them in any case.
No matter how many ways you could see it, North had the highest position. That is why he had been so in favor of the plan to see Hariric Stark trapped in order to have a bargaining chip against the North but it seemed that Hariric Stark had more brains than it seemed because he quickly learned of the plan from him.
''It's hard to believe. For so long we have been mocking the North. Delayed. Weak. uneducated. That and much more is what we have been calling you and look at us now. We are in a weak position with respect to them because of these actions.'' Tywin hated many things. He hated being outclassed of all things and most of all he hated being outclassed by the North. But here he was.
''for too long we have looked at the houses of the north as mere shadows. As if they didn't matter. The Targaryen house took advantage of them for years without caring a bit about what happened to them. And now we can say without any doubt about it that House Stark is clearly outpacing us which is the worst thing that could happen to us." Jon sighed.
''It is what it is because we gave them too much freedom. We should have made sure that the North was by no means growing so strong by itself. But instead of taking things seriously we have joked with them that it was a simple matter and now we have this against us in the worst possible way.'' Tywin was well aware that if this had happened it was due to his own incompetence.
''The North getting out of control is certainly the fault of all of us. If we had just done our job with them, things wouldn't be like this, would they, Lord Tywin? That is what you are implying. That we should have watched the North more closely to make sure they weren't doing anything that could get out of hand.'' The truth is that if. He blamed himself for it.
''If the North continues to advance the way it is, it will leave the South completely in the dust. Even if we manage to convince them to stay in the seven kingdoms we would have to get their secrets to be able to deal with them and get the same upgrades they have.'' If only the damned citadel would do her job.
''It's only a matter of time before the citadel finds out how they do things. How do they make glass? Where do their resources come from with how they make their elements live in the coldest climate. All of that will only be a matter of time before the citadel breaks their secrets and we can all live with the same luxuries as them and break their monopoly. From Jon's point of view, trusting that the citadel would be able to pull it off was a very high-level priority.
''I wouldn't trust the men of Arryn lore that much. They have been unable to discover the secrets of the north. Devils have been unable to uncover these very secrets for as long as the North got their hands on them. House Stark is too far behind. We have to do something of our own and you know it''. Tywin knew more about Jon than most. He knew how to see a long term planner.
''It's a little difficult then for us to find out. We don't know how he does it. Hariric Stark possesses the knowledge and has protected it in many ways. The only way I see that we will find out the secrets is if we find out the workers and therefore are able to convince them to side with us which will be difficult.'' It didn't matter which way you looked at it but he was sure that Hariric Stark had made sure in many ways that those who held the secrets of the different types of resources from the north would never share them with the south.
''then we should focus on surrounding him with people who are LOYAL not to him but to us. Getting him people in life who are understandably more loyal to us than himself is always a good way to get around him. Their lords may be protected but their little ones are not. A threat here. A favor there. That kind of thing always actually works.'' For Tywin the best way to get what he had in mind was by manipulating people and it was always possible if you knew how to push things.
''And yet have you ever stopped to consider the possibility that Hariric Stark could learn from such a move on our part? What if he finds out about our intentions and then acts accordingly? If he finds out something like that it could have unpleasant consequences. He didn't like it but they were defensive.
''I'll leave it for now. However I have to admit that I am curious as to how you have planned to convince Hariric Stark that it is in his best interest to continue being part of the seven kingdoms. Why should I? He has more to gain from what independence actually is than from simply obeying your orders so you know. It was not a good thought in Tywin's mind.
''the truth is that even I have doubts about a good plan that works in this regard. At the moment I would like to have conversations with Hariric Stark about what is important and how if he leaves the seven kingdoms he would be leaving many people without possibilities and benefits that with his help could be realized. Jon has always been a believer in appealing to people's hearts.
''You hope to sell him that he is owed more than anything that can be trusted in what is the end result of the people of the south. You will appeal that without him and his help, many poor people in the entire south will suffer less than pleasant fates. I can't say it's a bad plan if I have to say so.'' It wasn't a bad plan.
''It's a plan that occurred to me. It doesn't have to be the best of plans. But people like Hariric Stark can't sit still. Look what he did for the North. I'm sure he'll be motivated to help the people of the south if he can sell himself the right way.'' It was a good plan in his opinion. Show him that the people of the south were in need.
''It's not a bad plan. Hariric Stark could be forced and forced in that case to understand that he must above all think of the benefit of the people of the south. But tell me, how exactly do you expect him to accept it? He doesn't have to do it and I think you yourself will agree that whatever he tries to impose on him will end more than badly. He didn't like the idea of not being able to overpower Hariric Stark.
''That's the biggest complication. I don't know exactly how to plan it but I have a general idea. Hariric Stark wants to become independent. However if he does we can force him into our trade agreements where obviously we could also exploit him in some way. Without our sales he will lose money after all. For Jon it was a very simple plan.
''It wouldn't work that way. The people of the south want their products. If he sees that he cannot sell them at the price he is interested in, he will simply not sell them and we will be the screwed ones. You better think of something else. And believe me, it better be in a hurry. Because today we will have an important meeting that I don't want to fail in any way.'' The idea of being surpassed. That someone does it better than him. That single idea in itself bothered him a lot.
''I just hope that irritating woman doesn't end up screwing up all of this. With her son trapped as well as many lords, things will be far from good. Robert has already been quick and made it clear that he has no interest in retrieving the captured storm lords. He considers them traitors. The lords of the Stormlands had learned that Robert did not hold them in as much esteem as many might think and had abandoned the lords who stood by the dragon.
''Things are far from the best of ways if I have to say. That woman is only interested in recovering her son and her lords. We better be ready for whatever she can pull up her sleeve with the intention of winning them back. She was massively distrustful of Olenna Tyrell.
''do not remind me that. At least the faith hasn't sent anyone despite its constant demands that we have to do something with the power-wielding pagans of the north that only the gods and their most loyal vassals should be allowed. God forbid they end up offending Stark." In these times he absolutely did not want those things to come out.
''I'm afraid it is what it is. Anyway, I'll go get ready. When the time comes for dialogue at least one should have a plan in place to make sure things don't end up blowing up in our faces in the worst possible way.'' Tywin sincerely doubted that Jon had a good plan in mind.
Jon sighed. This would be the first crisis of the kingdoms and he had to overcome it by all means. It was not just the position of the seven kingdoms that was at stake. No. There was also the need for yes or yes from the north. Only in business the North generated a million and a half gold dragons. What harm could the loss of that wealth do? It could be a considerable loss if they weren't careful and he couldn't afford it for the world.
However, I knew very well that this was going to be an uphill job. He was not just convincing the North. The citadel and the faith were up in arms. One wanted to research magic and wanted to be allowed to send a group of maesters north to study and understand magic while the faith just wanted to see the possibility completely eradicated.
It wasn't a good thing if he had to say it and frankly he didn't want anything like that to happen since it tasted good and he could even tell that things would be far from well for all of them if they weren't handled properly. He couldn't afford to piss off what was already north by any means.
Of course there was the fact to convince him. He had his plans. His ideas and much more. Would he be capable of such a thing? He does not deny that it was a difficult job. He left immediately and for a moment he looked at the golden flower that was at that moment scaring him the most. Olenna Tyrell was a master manipulator and a master at convincing people of her own agenda but he wasn't stupid. She wouldn't leave here without what she wanted and she sincerely feared what the woman's plan might be in that regard.
-Twin wolves southern city. Keep-
Hariric did not want to be here. He had more things to deal with. The last few months he had made it very clear who would be the new lords of the new lands. Dareon would take over what was the former Honrwood territory. Meanwhile Tykren had obtained the territory of the Boltons and Shelia obtained the territory of the Ryswell family.
To say that there had been people with long faces was an understatement. Apparently, according to them, he had to give the lands to people from the North who had proven their loyalty or some such nonsense. He had been very tempted to kill some people because he thought they might question him.
The fact that the northern lords had dared to question him had pissed him off. He had given each lord ways to increase his economy and much more. And yet as a result he obtained neither more nor less than what these people essentially think as if they could order him. So after making it clear that he wasn't anyone's dog, he had made it clear that his decision was final.
Of course some lords had been forced to leave their positions by their own heirs. Almost all the heirs knew him and agreed that demanding more when they still have to exploit all the territory they had in their hands was the action of a good brainless idiot. The fact that many Northern lords were seeing an increase in wealth just because of their jobs should say a lot about them damn well.
And yet, despite this, these heirs thought that their parents were being incredibly greedy and that it could get them into shitty trouble that neither wanted at that point because at the end of the day they owed everything to House Stark.
It was just that the heirs had shown intelligence that he had decided not to do nasty things to their houses. But the next time some idiot even thought of doing such a thing he was going to make sure people didn't fucking think twice. He would take care of those who even thought they could fuck with him in any way.
It was not the time to clean up but this had made a reality clear to him. Even if he established a strong and powerful dynasty in the end, the vassals could be a point of weakness. He would have to deal with them somehow. It's not that he didn't trust his friends but his descendants you never know. Better be careful about it.
While he was thinking things through, he saw his wife getting dressed. A little sex never hurts and her wife was not in a good mood and she had to find ways to distract her. She was giving him a massage when she turned horny and if there was one thing she had learned it's that when her wife wants something you give it to her no matter what. It was better not to beat around the bush with her and he was capable enough to keep her satisfied.
So now she was getting dressed to meet. A laugh threatened to escape him. Unlike the typical women of this era, she dressed in leather pants. Certainly her wife knew how to get on people's nerves since she knew that that was not going to be funny to the southerners.
That brought back some memories. Sending Arthur to the mines had been painful for her but she had done it. They had sent a letter informing Lord Dayne that thanks to Arthur's misdeeds things in Dorne were going to turn bad. But to make sure House Dayne isn't the only one to blame, she made herself aware of Doran's maneuver and how Oberyn had been part of the guard contingent protecting the tower where her sister was.
did you feel sorry for them? The truth is, no. I didn't feel sorry for them. Not after your sister has been kept in such a state. The fact that her sister was not properly cared for could have led to her death. Of course the midwife had died since the woman had orders that if necessary, force the delivery of the child by killing her mother. The woman was dead and hariric had been very, very tempted to tear Oberyn in half by the fact that she was a part of him. Only Elia's and Ashara's hand had stopped him.
'' Your punishment will be to never hear from your sister or your niece again. You will never see a trace of them again. You will never be able to hear them laugh. Their laughter from the past will turn into pain for the loss you have. Let it be known forever Oberyn. And if your brother plays a trick on me like that again, I'll kill even the little children in your family. Until the last Martell''. It hadn't been his best day if he had to say so but in his defense that jerk could have killed his sister.
Hariric wasn't the only one upset. Ashara was less than happy and if his wife was less than happy then it was a bad day for people. Ashara had made it clear that Arthur was a jerk because of what she thought she was. Arthur's blind faith in Rhaegar had cost the seven kingdoms dearly. Certainly he had had plans for a separation but it wouldn't be because of blood damn it.
Instead he had had to put the northern armies to it. It's not that he didn't feel sorry for what he went through with his enemies. Only the poor victims that were in the way. The armies had hardly any professionals and almost all there were people really equipped and armed but without the training.
As Vlad once told him, he sacrifices an entire village to save ten. By completely destroying a town and leaving no survivors, the other nine would leave without touching as they would surrender yes or yes. However in this case he had had to do it for more serious reasons. The North was neither respected nor feared. A mockery. A laugh. That's all they thought of the Norteños.
He had to make sure that the idea in question was put out of their heads and that was why he had done what he had done. In the end what he had decided on was a human action designed to make sure that future enemies of his would think twice before screwing her over.
''it's such a quiet day don't you think? The day is shaping up to be a normal one. And yet it is the meeting of two forces that if they are not careful they could go to war. I don't think it's the best of things to happen if you know what I mean husband.'' Ashara had moved closer to her husband to look out the window. The southern lords had come accompanied by a serious force.
''The day is shaping up to be a truly beautiful one. Too bad we have to spend the day here not dealing with people when we could be quietly at home with the kids. Gods know the kids deserve a bit of a chance at some quality time with us.'' Sincerely since he returned his children had not wanted him out of his sight.
''with complete honesty I will say that this is a waste of time as well. The South won't want us to leave. They would be losing power and control and as everyone can attest when people lose power they are clearly offended and don't react well to it.'' Ashara just stared with hard eyes in the direction of the southern group.
''They expect us to kneel to them. Tch. What a lot of arrogance they have in their fucking minds. I'd honestly like to know where they get the damn idea that they even have the authority to somehow claim that they're entitled to this shit.'' Hariric was not in the best mood. Far from it.
''I think you know what they want. On the one hand they want the north subject to them. A willing piece of his so-called great power play. what a joke But at the same time we have to see it from his point of view to know the ways to be able to counter them properly. Ashara knew and had an idea more or less of what his enemies could expect from them.
''Okay, let's start. Why don't you want to see us go? Because they think that we are good dogs to have taken care of. I honestly think Arryn had hoped that all this war had somehow forced us to ally with them. Unfortunately, it's not the same to face a professional army than a bunch of idiots who only know how to attack in a mob''. Although many would be surprised that the North won, he did not see it as surprising.
''They'll be shaking their boots in fear right now because they think we're a threat that can't just be let go. Hell I'm sure this whole war has been a rude awakening for them and they want nothing more than to make demands. Honestly I have more important things to attend to than this whole shit.'' She honestly she was still furious that Oberyn and Doran have done what they have done and that's not to mention Arthur's mentality.
''I wish I could say that what they think is complete idiocy but it is what it is. They are anxious to make sure we don't leave and I honestly believe that as queen you are the right person along with me to kick their ass by saying that this is our last act as members of the seven kingdoms." In Hariric's mind he could understand where his wife was.
''according to our information our exit would affect the loss of a million dragons of monetary loss, can you really see southerners of all things saying that it is possible for them to lose such a large amount of money? Because I do not think so. That those people wouldn't accept it." Damn they would never accept that they just leave just for that.
''a million and a half is a good amount if you stop to think, dear wife, how much good would we be able to do with that million? Oh yeah. Right now we are using it in the three new fortresses we are working on.'' The Dareon, Tykren, and Shelia strongholds were already beginning. He had sent for the workers for it, what nobody knew is that once again he would be using his ghost workers.
''money that is spent wisely on what it is to be able to do a good job. The truth is that Dareon and the others benefit from this. And if I have to be honest I'd rather spend the money on more things than give it to the people of the south for their own personal shitty projects.'' Frankly in Ashara's mind money spent wisely is money spent on resources for the entire north in the end.
''Well, it's money that can be invested in things for the North itself if you stop to think about it. And I also don't feel comfortable having a relationship in the South knowing that these people can spend our hard-earned money on only things that are of interest to them.'' That gold could be used in more projects like improving the strongholds of his other lords.
''Do you know what makes me most amused about this meeting? That they think we are being irrational. I still remember the last report of how they think you are exaggerating things to be able to declare independence. What a bunch of motherfuckers with a damn ego problem.'' From Jon Arryn's point of view they were exaggerating all this.
''I don't see it as much as a problem. Besides, once we settle this, it's over. I'm tired of them sending me shit and if they think I'm just going to sit around and wait for them to tell me I can't declare my kingdom independent after the shit they've done they're in for a very painful awakening if I'm being honest ''. Seriously in Hariric's mind he couldn't understand how these people could tell him to his face that he couldn't be independent.
''I feel you more than a little eager to get this over with. I can't say that I blame you. There are more things to attend to and I honestly don't want to waste my time dealing with the southerners and what they think should be done.'' Ashara was less than happy with wasting her precious time discussing things. Not when she had more things to do.
''that is not all. There are more things to do than just argue with people who expect us to just obey. In other words, they are partially responsible for the shit that happened and we are expected to forgive them without further ado. Look, there are people who can be considered idiots if I have to say so.'' Hariric wasn't in the mood for this either.
''They wouldn't leave us alone until we sit down in negotiations. You know what's funny? That they seemed to think they could just invite us south without us expecting an ambush or anything like that. Talk about the most idiotic people. Especially with their precious reputations.'' One's reputation was how one saw it.
''They would expect us to just do what they would expect. The truth is that just because of that insult I am more than tempted to send them to hell. I could have agreed to meet and everything but let people make no mistake this is more than anything because I want to settle this issue and put things in order with the south.'' From Hariric's point of view, pointless arguing would get him nowhere if he had to be honest.
''I still don't like being in the same close proximity as Robert Baratheon. That man deserves a good kick in the nuts for even thinking that he could have forced his and Lyanna's marriage. Honestly the fact that the man thought that he could just demand it like in the last letter was most annoying. For Ashara things were crystal clear.
''it got into his head. I seem to remember that this is how it always is: you want what you really can't get. Robert got an idea of Lyanna and thought that she was perfect for him. Which is complete bullshit if I have to say it. If something deserves a good kick in the ass just for that detail in question, since thinking of my sister as an object annoys me a lot''. The mere thought of him seeing his sister as just a tool. An element to use and this was already something that made him very angry.
''You know that they will ask how he died, right? They may even have ideas. And if Robert even suspects that Jon is the son of that silver-haired jerk, it could spark a full-scale war if you think about it. It's not the healthiest idea he had in mind.'' Frankly, she didn't care if Robert Baratheon was upset because Lyanna had had a child with someone else. No. What she cared about is how far the pair of jerks would go to kill the child.
''If some asshole even thinks they can lay a hand on my son they will learn the hard way that this is a huge mistake that they never should have even imagined. The consequences would simply be greater than anyone could imagine and I would make sure to have the entire Baratheon family on a pike." That child was his sister's son. Whether from a rape or not.
''It's problematic but it is what it is and we have nothing to do but be sensible about it. At least if we're lucky we can say that Jon will be safe for a while. However, we'd better get ready. Speaking of which, did you really have to fuck them up that big honey?'' She was obviously referring to a certain item that was in Hariric's possession.
''I do not know what are you talking about. It's not like I had any compelling reasons to find any excuse so I could mess with a man who thought he could screw me in any way. At least I hope things show even more how inferior they are compared to us anyway.'' Hariric laughed with a certain amount of mischief.
''You are honestly a big boy sometimes if I have to say so. But he can't say that he can blame you either. Not after knowing that this man would be around our neck like the king's hand trying to force us to comply with his fucking demands. Just so you know, that's what keeps me from getting mad at you and thinking you're just childish.'' Yeah. Ashara could mess with her husband quite well, could anyone blame her?
''honey please if I really wanted to mess with him somehow I would just be hitting hard and painful where I know it hurts the most. What I'm doing now is just making it very clear how far below he is compared to me and how we have escaped from his personal interests. It might seem like an exaggeration but from Hariric's point of view it wasn't.
''There are times with complete honesty that I have to wonder how the hell you are capable of half the things that you are capable of husband. Anyway, I'll let it go for now. Let's settle this matter and go home. I want above all to be with my children. With her final words said, Ashara left to go to the fitting room.
Hariric watched his wife leave and smiled. The truth is that he was very upset by the interruption of these southerners. He had sent a letter and had made it very clear that he was going on his own. Why did they even think they could somehow come and demand that he think twice?
It's almost as if they thought they had authority over him in some way. The very idea was pissing him off but luckily for a lot of people she knew enough of control to keep his fury from escaping completely. But the anger would still be there. A rage that threatened to hit someone painfully if disturbed.
Her concern was with Jon. Lyanna loved him so much. It was her son. He might be the product of rape but he was still a son. For a moment he thought about what the southerners could do to him and he was furious. Use it in political games. Threaten his life. Just the thought of people even thinking they could do such things was enough to unleash his anger.
Fortunately his nemesis blood was partially satisfied. He still had to punish Arryn but she was no longer pressing. No. He would be patient and in time would have the head not only of Arryn but of all those who had prospered under him.
Sighing, he went to dress himself at this time. Although he had little desire to do this, he agreed that it was time to meet with these people and settle these issues in a final way. The time when the North had been part of the seven kingdoms was over. He he knew. While some may have doubted it somewhat he he he could say it differently.
-Meeting point-
This was an event that many would classify as unique. The meeting between the North and the South. Many thought that the North could never be a threat to the power and strength of the South. That the brave knights of the south were great forces that had to be reckoned with above all things and that the great lords of the south completely surpassed. The hour of the wolf had changed that.
The southern lords were seated on one side while the table was formed and placed in the middle. No one was above the others. On one side was the south. With men like Hoster Tully, Tywin Lannister, Jon Arryn and of course the King and Queen. Robert Baratheon and Cersei Lannister. If anyone looked south they would say they were trying to look imposing. Four gentlemen and one of the so-called most beautiful women. Behind them was a contingent of soldiers clearly there for protection. But the North was not far away because there were also several people there who should be recognized.
Ned Stark. The silent wolf Half meter eighty. His body was well built and he had his hair up in a ponytail. At his waist he wore to the Winter's Lament a Valyrian Steel sword. As if that wasn't enough he was dressed in decent clothes and had a hard, gray look that screamed strength.
Another person was Jon Umber The Giant of the North standing at eight feet of pure muscle with his sword a Valyrian steel greatsword on his back who was called the Chain Breaker.
But the two that stood out the most were Hariric Stark the Winter Wolf with the modified Ice sword on his back and his wife Ashara Dayne with her gae Bolg spear at her side. The two of them looked better than fine and with their own crowns. Where the southern crown was gold, the northern crown…was Valyrian steel in a shade of ice blue.
The two powers looked at each other intensely. It didn't take a genius to see the tension between them. Ned watched calmly but he could feel Hoster Tully's intensity. Jon looked calm but in reality he was looking annoyed at the entire North for their weapons and the image of him. Tywin looked annoyed by the Valyrian steel weapons. Then there was Cersei who just glared at Ashara herself realizing not only how beautiful she looked but also clothes that fit her so much better. But the most intense gaze was that of Robert Baratheon towards a hariric Stark who seemed interested in taking him down with his gaze.
Robert baratheon was looking intently at Hariric Stark. He was aware of how much the man disliked him. He was aware of how Stark had been against his wedding to his sister. To say that he despised the idea without hesitation was an understatement. The man wasn't buying it and he'd made it clear that he wasn't worthy of his sister. But Robert hadn't cared back then. What else could he care about his opinion when this had been decided yes or yes? It didn't matter in Robert's opinion. It was just the opinion of one more man. But then Robert began to feel small and incapable.
How did this happen? Simple. The North began to expand and open up. To become a true power. It didn't matter how you saw it and it didn't matter how much you thought about it. Hariric Stark rebuilt a kingdom for himself. That would only make it go down in the history books. Like another of the great men. It didn't matter how much he thought about it. And then he started getting along with the king. First a Valyrian steel sword. Then glass material and top quality silks. No matter how much you think about it, Hariric Sark was planning something and Robert Baratheon was far from being an idiot. Could he be plotting to get rid of him? Stop him from marrying his sister? The very thought began to infuriate the Baratheon.
Then the war broke out. She had thought it was her time to shine. But jon said they would wait until the north called for help. A mischievous smile appeared on his face the day he was told such a thing. He was just looking forward to the thought of the great harirc Stark coming for help. And god was going to milk him. But then it happened. Hariric Stark went to war...without allies. He alone. Itself. Then they discovered that the north had a powerful professional army. The very thought chilled his blood if he had to be honest as he watched as the northern army crushed force after force without mercy. He froze her blood.
Hariric went to war and won it. I kill Rhaegar Targaryen. I destroy the armies of the south. He did that and much more. Without compassion. Without mercy. And then something else was added to the legend of Hariric Stark. He not only he was a creator. He was also a military leader. He planned each battle to finish and crush his enemies. And then it turned out that he had another power: magic. The very idea was giving him more and more problems. When would it end? When would the man who hated him be lowered? When would the man he wanted to subdue by all means stop growing into a fucking giant?
I couldn't bear it. And then it happened. Hariric Stark claimed the independence of the North and the founding of the kingdom of Asgard. It didn't matter which way he looked. It didn't matter how you thought about it. No. What mattered in Robert's eyes was that the North was flourishing at levels never seen before and he wanted to stop it. But how? How did you stop such advances?
It was the strangest thing he had ever thought in his entire life. She couldn't see a way to stop it. And then here she was. She looking at him with that cold look and fury in her eyes. He was not a happy man in the least and from what he could tell he was less than pleased with this meeting. So he was about to end this.
''I hope that in addition to taking a look at those present there is a compelling reason for all that meeting. You southerners may like to leave things unattended but I'm not the same way and believe me when I say I'm serious about doing my job.'' Hariric Stark's voice was devoid of warmth. There was no positive emotion coming out of him.
''we are here for several reasons boy. We are here to find out what will become of the hostages you hold. You have my damn son in your power and I would like to know that he will be his. Olenna was sitting in a separate part as if she wasn't wanted. She was furious about the fact that she was treated like this.
''Although I think this meeting could begin in many other ways, the truth is that I agree with Lady Olenna. You have many heirs and even southern lords in your power and we would like to know what you can do with them. We could start talks for their recovery.'' Jon sighed knowing that Olenna Tyrell could be classified as a nuisance but he didn't deny his words.
''tch you should consider yourself lucky old lady. Especially seeing as that son of yours was stupid enough to be in on this shit. Many of us have been of the mind that your son and the many other lords of the Domain should have been killed for you to know.'' Jon was not happy.
''Jon you don't need to bother so much. After all she is scared that we decide to use her child as a bargaining chip. Like the other gentlemen. To be honest he was very tempted to execute all of them and let that serve as an example of not fucking with the realm of Asgard anymore.'' Hariric watched as everyone's eyes widened.
''It's not that I'm surprised. Once wild always wild isn't it Hariric Stark? Tell me again, what did your men do with every soldier they've faced, huh? Without the possibility of surrender. Mercilessly. You don't have the features of a gentleman. Just another tyrant who enjoyed killing everyone who got in his way.'' Olenna glared at the young man hoping that was enough to make him feel bad somehow.
''I'm not a gentleman. I am a king. The King is the one who carries the most arduous and hard tasks of all my dear Olenna. To this day I am only doing the right thing. Make sure that nothing and no one dares to try to fuck with the North again. How many men will help your lords to fight from now on knowing that their enemy…is me, eh?''. Hariric could see the disbelieving look on the woman's face.
''People will rise up when we ask them to. Sheep don't understand lions like we do and should make a real effort to avoid our attention in all things. I don't think those sheep understand what their life is without us.'' Cersei glared at the so-called King of the North with pure hatred. How dare this man of all things treat them this way?
''If that's your way of thinking, I can assure you that you won't last too long. Truth be told you call them sheep. I would call them the pillar on which we all work. If you stop to think about it, it doesn't matter which way you look, but the important thing is that if these people become rebellious you will starve, your armies will not move and they will kill you while you sleep.'' Ashara scoffed at the sheer idiocy of this idiot woman.
''We've gotten off topic. We are here to talk and engage in a dialogue about the recovery of the different lords that are trapped. So forgive me for saying this but I think the important thing is that we get back on topic and discuss his release please." Jon was a little…scared. Ashara Dayne's gaze was not that of a weak woman, far from it.
''They all rose up against House Stark when they were having a problem with House Targaryens. Each and every one of them became enemies of the Sttark house at that time. As a rule, you should execute all of them and settle the issue where it is. This is how I see it and there is nothing that can change the direction of my thoughts without further ado.'' Hariric was clear.
''We understand that you are affected by your loss. And actually we agree that pain is a serious reason but I agree that strong relationships can be achieved if everyone who is trapped is freed with good will.'' Jon didn't like how this was going.
''compassion is a trait I lack right now because these people got into a matter between House Stark and the crown I once swore to. It was a problem between two. And yet houses from every fucking kingdom got in the way with the thought of taking advantage. Believe me lord Arryn my fury is far from sated at the moment.'' Far from it damn it.
''What my husband says is true, Lord Arryn. House Stark never wanted violence with the crown. The previous Lord Stark Rickard Stark himself went to the capital to start a dialogue and was captured and taken hostage so that the north would submit to the will of the crown. It was a conflict between the Stark house and the Targaryen royal house. Where should the other kingdoms go, huh?''. Ashara could see that Lord Arryn was not happy for her.
''I understand. So, what would you like to do to be able to resolve this diplomatically, gentlemen? If it's for the price of a ransom, the truth is that I really don't know what to do. I hope you both agree that whatever is in mind is not an exaggeration.'' Jon could feel Tywin's desire to speak.
''That's why my husband and I came up with this. A contract. In exchange for a thirty percent reduction in taxes for what is trade, we agree to return each of the hostages alive and in perfect condition. As you can see here will be the three ports well four since Lord Arryn would also sign for the port of the valley lands''. Ashara could feel the lords thinking. Possibly they were thinking of the great idea that they could get away with it.
''Things are not that simple. They never are. If they were, the world would be simple. Tell me Kings of Winter, how did you plan of all things to ensure that the terms of the contract are fulfilled?''. Tywin was looking at the contract. In addition to what was the tax discount for the sale of merchandise, there were more things to mention, such as the reprisals that would be carried out in the event of being involved in some type of action such as an attempt to sabotage the ships, steal the boats either directly or indirectly and much more.
''ah, who said that those contracts are simple? Those contracts will be tied to the blood of everyone present and that includes all family members. If only one of those who sign breaks the agreement, then he will suffer the consequences, which is why retaliation is basically mentioned in case of breaking the contracts. We call them geas contracts, aren't they a wonderful invention thanks to magic?'' Ashara relished the look of pure horror that came over everyone's faces as Jon peered more carefully at the contracts. Great Jon was laughing.
''You wouldn't think in any way that I would just be leaving this to happen without a consequence right? Magic is a wonderful thing. The choice before you is simple. You sign the contracts and therefore we are all bound. I return without touching any of the nobles in my power. And in return you comply with what was agreed. It's that easy''. Hariric was sure they would raise questions. But what was not expected was the immediate response of reading more intensely. Hoster looked especially incensed by the contract of all things which he was not saying little. But hey he was savoring it. After thinking about it he saw Olenna sign the contract as if she had no choice.
As one all those present began to sign. He could see the annoyance in each of them and heck you could even tell they were less than happy but Hariric and Ashara couldn't care less. No. They knew there could be sabotage attempts. For example, there would be people interested in sinking the ships they had or taking their cargo for them, so they would take more measures. But having the lords and lords of the different port cities under control would mean in a nutshell that shit wouldn't happen any way and only an idiot would try it.
''With that said, I know you have more things to discuss. The separation of the North. The kingdom of Asgard has declared its independence and I have no intention of turning back. There is nothing you can say that would convince me differently and there are no offers that can be made either.'' Hariric decided it was time to go for the elephant in the room.
''The North swore an oath to submit to the Targaryens. And I've claimed the iron throne because of my Targaryen blood so you're bound to me whether you like it or not you fucking asshole.'' Robert was tired.
"ahhh really? If you've taken that then…you've taken his debts shall we start with it? First the taking of my father as a prisoner. Second the kidnapping, rape and death of my sister. Third provoke a war. Fourth, breaching the pact of ice and fire, do you want me to continue around? There are many insults that the house targaryens have given to the north and if I have to be frank I am more than a little anxious to claim the damages caused friend. Hariric was beyond pissed off that they thought they could get out of here without paying.
''I think you're exaggerating. This is a new beginning. A chance to lead the seven kingdoms to the top. Just think of all that we can do together between the north and the south. Separately we are strong together? We would be even stronger.'' Jon didn't like how this was going.
''I don't need to give him chances. I don't need to sit with you. The north separates is the point and end. You have had close to three hundred years to ascertain that. And yet the case is that my kingdom has been attacked, trampled and beaten. If you consider yourself so superior, here is your prize. That's it and a settled point for me.'' Hariric could see that they were not going to stop.
''Please think about it for a moment. We understand all the damage that has been done by the south. We understand that we have taken advantage but you must also understand the damage that the separation of the north of the seven kingdoms as a whole would do. She couldn't believe it. Hariric Stark was making it clear that he had no problem breaking ties with them. This was bad. He had to find a way to keep him tied to the seven kingdoms. He had to somehow get the north to accept
''Lord Arryn with all due respect. Why? Why should I care what happens in the south when we in the north have our own concerns? You have been three hundred years old and you will not change, do you think I don't know? The one you call king was already plotting to milk us somehow. The different gentlemen thought of putting demands on us so this is what I say: no more''. The time for accepting the demands of other lords was over in the eyes of Hariric Stark. Why was he supposed to obey the demands of the people? Why did she have to accept his demands?
''There is no longer the kingdom of the North. We are Asgard. And we declare ourselves independent.
