Chapter 14: c14
winter wedding
-West. Northern Kingdom. winterfell
-Lady's Room-
The lady's room was a room in the fortress that had been left for Ashara's personal use. Some would say that hariric had just fallen in love with her body and was already under her control. Ashara scoffed in her mind. Fools. If that had been true of her a long time ago she would have fallen for the good graces of any fucking whore. Frankly Ashara hated how people seemed to think that her husband-to-be was more of a simpleton than anything else. Especially the simple. She found it funny how people could come to think such a thing when her husband if she could be honest was anything but simple by the gods
Since he had arrived in the North several things had happened. Her stay in the capital of the north had meant, on the one hand, accustoming her more to the North and how the place was simply much better than the South. She certainly missed certain things but hariric had given her the world of hers and damn she was fine with being alive again and more importantly with the chance to spend time with the man she loved. If she had to be blunt it was much better than the option of standing on the other side helplessly and watching someone she didn't give permission get cool with her man of hers. She'd gouge out any bitch's eyes so she dared even look closely at her husband.
The more he thought about it, he was also very surprised when the northern lords accepted his idea of creating a bank. When her husband introduced each lord of her important alliance about her bank, there were doubts. First things first. The interests of the North above all else. People wanted to understand her reasons for wanting to found a bank. It wasn't like in the South where veiled comments were made and then expected to just be sabotaged. The northern lords told her that her idea was useful and they could see the potential in her and would be supporting her. That told him a lot about the faith that the lords of the North had in hariric
When she finished explaining her idea of the bank that she wanted to call the Winter Rose bank, the gentlemen asked her for a moment to discuss it. Hariric once again the sensible man that he was and masterful manipulator that he was left so they could discuss in secret. She questioned him because she just didn't use magic to convince them. It's not that she did such a thing to the gentlemen of her husband, but she was just curious. When her husband just raised an eyebrow she knew he had something done. It was then that she was surprised because he had made it clear that he trusted them and that they would make the right decision to turn the idea of the bank into something that worked. There were days when she was surprised by her gift for understanding people
After that it wasn't hard in the least to see that the northern lords wanted more ideas. They wanted to know everything she had started for the bank. For what she wanted and much more. Her answers were what she ended up making them understand. She wanted the bank to have administrators who would make sure that the money would not be lost. She wanted the bank to ensure that you could have trusted people making investments on behalf of the North. That and much more led the lords of the North to grant him permission. Of course she knew that she would take a while. It would take a year or two for the people to be educated as well as the construction of the different branches and much more.
Ashara was surprised at how accepted her idea was. If she had to be frank she hadn't expected it much but she was much happier with it knowing that the North now had a piece of her. She since then she too had spent time getting to know the lords. The men and women who ruled or would rule the North. It was clear in Ashara's mind at least that her husband had wisely chosen the people to fill her position. They were still simple. But when she found out what the northern officers' academy was, she knew that her husband was intent on making sure that the people of the North were not left uneducated hicks. An educated kingdom has potential
Ashara had to admit that her lord husband had shown long-term thinking. Melania was smart, she wouldn't deny it. But she lacked a certain education. If she had to be honest, Melania Martell was lacking in certain ways. There was also the fact that her husband was a man who knew how to work people. How to motivate them It wasn't just charisma. Many had said that Hariric was a man of his word and so they believed him. If she had to be frank, the mere idea of it made her believe that her husband knew even more what he expected in the North in a short time.
His thoughts were jolted by Elia's arrival. Ashara was still wondering what dress to wear. Her future husband had given her the option to choose the dressmaker and everything. The woman in question had made several dresses for her since in her own words she had to be excellent for the future wedding. She laughed. She was torn between a dark red wedding dress and a deep purple one. She, like her, was always indecisive. Even despite the weather, she was also surprised by the white or black fur accessories for her to wear on top of her. Her future husband had always been very detailed when it came to making her as happy as possible.
''I see you happy. I see you very happy. Not that she can blame you. You're getting married. I wish my future wedding could be said to be somewhat similar to how happy this is." Elia looked at Ashara. She had seen the happiness in her eyes. He basically knew and could tell that Ashara was pleased with the idea of her marriage to Hariric Stark. She couldn't blame her. First it was a good game. Second, if her current data was anything to go by, the North would soon become the most powerful kingdom of the seven kingdoms. There was no easy way to say that she didn't have to be happy to get married. However, she was still worried about the problems that would be in front of her from now on.
''you see concern on a person's face when they're in front of me. You don't need to be so bad. Although it may seem that this is not the case, in reality I am sure that all the problems that I may have in front of me will have a more viable solution anyway. Ashara didn't need to be a genius. Elia was an incredibly empathetic woman. She was able to bond with people very easily. Elia was worried about her because once married she would become a very powerful woman. Not only the South but Essos would want what the North has. It would be a war of politics and it would not be easy. Fortunately she knew well how to deal with the pathetic annoying existences in life. She was sure of it actually
''I can't help that what is a sister to me in everything but blood is basically going to be in the crosshairs of God knows how many. Tywin lannister to start. He will do everything in his power in an attempt to win back what he thinks is his right. You must not believe the possible amount of crap that will be thrown your way, my friend.'' Elia knew Tywin lannister well. The man was ruthless. He lacked empathy. His own children were more than anything tools. One to secure his legacy. The other to get a powerful alliance. And the last one just a stress reliever. If she had to be blunt she would rather not have him as an enemy.
''Believe me I am perfectly aware that Tywin Lannister is a serious threat to the northern government. The man will not allow anyone or anything that could threaten his precious legacy. However, although it is certainly dangerous, I am more afraid of a cockroach than of a man like him. Tywin Lannister. He was such a simple man to understand. As she and Hariric himself knew, when you understand the politics and ideals of the people then you are able to know exactly what they are up to. It was just fun to say that she knew what that man was up to. She was simple and at the same time a nuisance since she knew that her family would be in the crosshairs.
''You shouldn't underestimate him…he scares me. That man is incredibly dangerous. And I don't like it as a mother and Doran is trying so hard to marry me off to Rhaegar just so they can put me on as queen and use my future children as some kind of extension of Dorne on the Iron Throne and thus dominate the seven kingdoms'' . Elia growled. His children. The precious future children of him. His mother and his brother intended to make them into tools for his schemes. She despised that with a passion. Her children were innocent children who didn't deserve that shit in life. She could see Ashara tense. Although Ashara could love Melania as a mother, she knew that she would never give her authority over her children no matter what she asked about it.
''It's another reason I like to get married up north if I have to be honest. I am the one who has a voice and word in my children. No Doran. Nor anyone else. And believe me if Doran tries to open the attachment letter so he can tell me what to do with my kids I'll shove a spear deep up her ass. My children are not pawns of anything or anyone''. He knew Doran wouldn't hesitate to try to do that. Of turning her little children into little more than tools of some kind. To be able to do with them what he wanted. She didn't make her happy and from what she could tell if Dora even suggested that her husband would kill him in the most painful way possible.
''on that I have to agree with you lucky bitch. Without my mother and Doran on top of you, you can basically raise your children however you want. That's pretty good if I have to say so. It really makes me envious. I'm also envious of the man you've managed to snag as a husband if I have to be honest.'' The man was an imposing figure indeed. But every time he looked at Ashara he could see real love in those gray-green eyes. The same could be said of Ashara's violet eyes. Really, how the hell had her friend been able to fall in love so easily with the man in question? It was just intriguing
''what can I say. I'm a lucky bitch. However hariric is a man who has also made it clear to me that as a lord he must especially follow the rules. This Northern officers school is a must that all future northern lords will attend. If I have to be frank, the idea of taking my children away from me kicks me. That was true. Fortunately, thanks to magic, she would be able to see them every weekend and, more importantly, talk to them every night. It was good for her. However Hariric was right in what he did. If any favoritism was seen on his part, his lords would turn against him for some reason without further ado and that would not be a good thing.
''In the North, the rulers have always maintained order because they inspire by example. While the southern lords mock the Northerners for the fact that in their own words the Northerners lower themselves, the North is arguably the most unified kingdom of all. The stupidity of people always amazes me nothing more''. Frankly in Elia's mind she would always look favorably on the North. The North had shown unity. Job. And much more. Where in the south the rulers are fighting over the least in the north they worked together with the intention of making the north the most powerful kingdom. He sincerely felt that southerners should learn from them.
''What can you say. The North knows how to do his job or rather the Starks. Everyone makes fun of them but I can tell they just needed the spark. The spark to be great. And the gods have blessed the family with the birth of my husband. He is after all the one who has given so many opportunities to the north.'' Ashara was not lying. The North has always stood together. But they needed one last push. A blow to the rear. And I arrive. Hariric arrived. And now the North surpassed the other kingdoms and had a monstrous growth rate. They were simply above the other lords and I had no doubt that with each passing generation they would be stronger and better positioned for the future.
''I agree with that. However, I have to warn you of something. I saw the queen of thorns. I have no doubt that bitch is up to something. Possibly going to make one of her bullshit plays for power and try to see you out of it or possibly your lord husband. He went to say that and Elia was surprised when Ashara's face changed. Behind her the joy had gone when an absolute coldness settled on her face. Such a deadly cold. She was afraid if she had to be blunt because if there was one thing she knew it was that Ashara WAS her mother's student. She wasn't nearly as cruel, but she was as capable and as dangerous as herself.
''If that old witch tries anything, she will understand that there are much worse things than a rose with thorns that is capable of stabbing itself and poisoning you. After all, not only roses can carry poison. That woman had better be preparing to leave my husband alone. Ashara had heard of her. The woman of the vine they called her. The queen of thorns. She felt that he was a serious threat to her but not because of the power but because of the alliance. Maesters could be a real pain in her ass if she had to be blunt. Even more so now that the North had definitively expelled all the masters of the North
''It's not a maybe. She will do it. You and I know it. That woman sees the advance of the North. I'm sure she will soon learn how to do the wine enhancement technique for the Dominion as well but there are still too many advantages that the North has. Glass. Silk. That much more. It's too much of an advantage she can't take advantage of.'' Elia could tell that this is what was going to happen. Olena was here to find a way to ensure that the North delivers her precious secrets to her house. The mere idea was incredibly idiotic but she wasn't surprised that the woman thought of it anyway. she was just being the typical woman who wanted to see her house evolve
''I couldn't care less what that woman wants Elia. This is a very important day for me. It's my wedding day. The day I'm getting married to a man that I can honestly say would be capable of love without a doubt. If that old hag tries to screw up this wedding in any way, I will kill all of her descendants and sow her home with death. Ashara did not leave anywhere near a little imagination as to what she would do if she was offered the chance. She was very clear actually. Nothing and no one would escape from her if they even thought about screwing up her plans for a beautiful wedding in which she could enjoy the presence of the man she loved the most in this life.
''…you know for a woman who has been trained by my own mother to be able to use men instead of being used by men you are very attached to him. And yet so little time has passed. It's just fascinating if I have to say so.'' Elia curiously looked at her friend very carefully. She knew better. Ashara was not one to believe in that nonsense of true love and the love of a crush. She had actually made fun of stupid southern women falling for handsome armor clad knights many times. Hell, she once verbally attacked some idiot who thought that was perfectly fine to be and that a woman should only be a mother and a wife.
''I know. I understand. Lady Melania made a real effort. A woman who dominates men with her body. She that she uses her brain to slowly make sure that things go according to her own plans. That's what she wanted…until I met a man who can make Lady Melania look not only retarded but also a bit incompetent. With pardon of the words to your mother Elia''. The truth is that Ashara had a healthy respect for Melania. She was an intelligent and capable woman. She certainly deserved respect. But she compared to a man like Hariric she was simply inefficient. Not only did her magic give him a significant advantage but he was that unique if you had to think about it.
''I don't have any taken though I hope you understand that I am curious as to what you think is so significantly important about that man. I think I wish I could know. Who knows I can learn one more detail or something like that''. Elijah had fun. Ashara had always had great respect for her mother. Her mind. Her sharpness. Her coldness. Her consciousness. All. It could certainly be said that Ashara had sought to emulate her mother. For her to say that her mother was lagging behind a man who on top of all things was from the North of hers made her feel a bit curious about it actually. Hell it made her question things
''Your mother is amazing. No one will take that away from you. She is the bitch of bitches. But haririrc…is not like the others. He sees the world and he doesn't see the big game. He doesn't see people fighting. What he sees is his kingdom. He wants to make it strong and powerful and he learns how to do it. He once he can get going he shapes it and when something gets in his way he kills it out of hand. He had seen plans for the Boltons, Ryswell and Hornwood. He had plans for his territories and since they were enemies he was plotting to deal with them somehow. Honestly, instead of making a complex plan, he had just made a simple and simple plan without further ado. it was one thing even she could tell was kind of scary…and it made her pretty horny
''You are saying that he is a person who does not see the so-called Game of Thrones as something valuable. Just a waste of time. You kind of think that while people play this great game their kingdoms suffer. As their realms suffer that means they cannot reach their full potential. There are too many divisions of loyalties really.'' Elia couldn't help but wince at the point. Hariric had sought to unify his kingdom. To turn it into something united. He was still at it but he wouldn't take time. Then he had given them tools to grow strong. And in time he would give them more. He had practically tied them to House Stark. He was not surprised that Ashara found him so imposing.
''the great game is an ambitious goal in which each person tries and seeks to fortify his family in some way to climb in life. Hariric being the simple man that he is saw the weakness that is to his kingdom and has made sure to nip it in the bud. Believe me when they try to play him people will learn the hard way that this is a gigantic mistake without precedent.'' The big game was a complete waste of time for her husband. She felt it was silly and meaningless. She couldn't blame him for it. In fact she agreed. If each kingdom first focused on the inside and then on the outside they would be more powerful instead they would be left behind
''That's what you call him. That he is not like the others... and in part you are happy with it because by preventing the great game you are one hundred percent sure that your children will never have to fear the betrayal of those around them. I must say that if it is only for that reason I must agree. It's much better that way too if I have to say so.'' Elia made a sincere face. The problem with the great game, at least in his mind, was that he stood a good chance of having vipers surround you, waiting to sink their venom-filled fangs into you. Some fangs that would end up killing you when you least expect it and then your family will be in danger
''That's another one. It has become clear to me that I will never see his relatives as pieces of a game. How can I not love that, Elia? How can I not love a man who is clear that family is more important than a stupid attempt to grow stronger? I have to admit that for that alone he has my heart. That and much more is what really makes me be with him.'' Ashara was not going to say that she loved him because she showed her love in the past but besides her past was her present. Hariric loved her and he would never do anything to hurt her so he was happy. With that she looked at the purple wedding dress and she smiled determined that this was the one she would wear along with the black bearskins. They would suit him quite well, she decided. She also had to admit that her taste in clothes remained
Ella made a face. She couldn't deny it. In this world of shit, husbands fathers and mothers usually saw the offspring of their daughters and sons as mere bargaining chips. Even if they were nobles. She hated that. That Ashara was able to escape from it made her overjoyed in her mind. She made her feel that at last one of them had been able to escape the cruel fate that noble women had in a world where men had so much power. She could tell that she was happy to know that she didn't really have to worry so much anymore and that was good.
With a single movement the women began to arrive to help dress Ashara. She had to admit that the northern style of clothing had radically improved. Although of course she also had to admit that if it weren't for the furs she didn't know how she would be able to just go there. However, she felt happy for her friend and walked away from her to see how they dressed her until another woman came from her informing her that they had to do the same with her. He was surprised until he saw a couple of pretty dress up sets for her. She had to admit it. Lord Stark certainly knew how to do things.
-Husband's room-
Hariric was already dressed. Unlike his wife (or any woman he had known) he was not one to waste time with clothes. Despite his taste for a good suit, he knew that these were more than anything to deal with braavos and what was the southern nobility in the south. However here in the North he dressed differently. He wore boots of a black color with a scaly touch which spoke of reptilian clothing that ironically came from a basilisk that he had personally killed since the damn beast had been detected in what was the swamp and sensed its presence and would rather deal with it. her personally. Basilisks were dangerous
Next up were leather pants. Of the same material, only with the difference that it had a belt made of dark red leather with a buckle in the shape of a wolf's head of black color made of Valyrian steel. The pants were made with the soft part of the basilisk's belly while the belt came from a fire worm that had been found in Essos and had bought, although not before making sure that there would be future offspring. The buckle was made personally with his magic. Hariric could only imagine the angry glare of the Valyrians at what it was like to know how to deal with his mystical metal. In fact, he knew that it was very possible that they would hate him even more for the fact that he knew how to improve it much more.
Next up was a black colored shirt with silver threads on it and the buttons being made of the same silver. Once again this had been done by him. The new silk of the North was of much higher quality, resistant and warmer than the silk of Essos. As if that were not enough the silver threads he made himself by personally transmuting the lead and shaping it into silver. While Flamel may have needed the hariric stone, he knew the chemical composition of each element and knew how to alter it. Between that and the environment he was able to alter any element to give it the look he wanted. He required a certain amount of power but hey he wasn't the big monster for no reason
The next thing to point out was a signet ring. It was another thing that she had made fashionable. The signet rings were basically emblems of the power of the house. His was made of Valyrian steel in a platinum color with the image of a direwolf in all its glory. The ring also served several purposes. Lie detector. poison detector. Possession detector. That and so much more. Actually Hariric had only originally created it as a let's fuck so called spotlight masters. Because Valyrian steel was magical it could be useful. However, he had included his own blood in it, thus binding him only to his bloodline and allowing him in a nutshell to use magic.
The next item to highlight from his outfit was the Valyrian steel wolf pendant. It was the same pendant he had been seen wearing in Dorne. The pendant not only represented the Direwolf but also had a set of runes on it. He acted as a protector against magic. After having found out in the library of the masters of the different magical factions that right now were under the command of the red priests, the pendant was used for that. It had the runes and then the diamond that was used to absorb energy. Then he would redirect the energy against the one who had thrown it at him of all things. This invention was one of his biggest jobs
Finally there was his black leather jacket made of the same basilisk, only in this case it was from the back showing its rougher texture. What no one knew was that he had made many additions to the clothing to ensure that no bloody daggers would hit him. This at the same time made it so that nothing could hit him from behind. The only chance to hit him was from the forehead really and well if you could somehow get to him it was just a matter of whether he wanted to use his magic more or whether to use Ice to eviscerate the person who was idiot enough to hit him. to actually tie it up
Hariric was having a glass of his favorite wine. Right now the Northern Winter wine was classified into three types which had given it an advantage. He was having a glass of rosé wine because he liked it. However, his mind was racing at a thousand an hour. Something that no one knew was that there were only a couple of things that he could honestly say that affected him. Getting married had been one of them. In fact he had been very much against marrying because he had considered it an insult to the only woman who loved him but that he knew he had to do to secure the bloodline. At least his parents chose wisely in their mind
That Nymphadora had been reborn as Ashara filled him with joy if he had to be honest. He couldn't see himself without being with the woman he loved. Ashara was Nymphadora. But at the same time you could see the differences. Her Nymphadora had been a woman full of life, yes, but she was certainly immature as well. However as Ashara she was much more mature and capable. Hariric realized that this was possibly courtesy of improving herself in some way. Not that she cared. All that mattered in his mind was that she was once again his wife which brought an extremely dangerous look to his eyes at that very moment courtesy of some information.
Shelia's intelligence division bless her soul had discovered the exact purpose of the presences of the three different parties that were here in the North. The Tully house wanted to forge a marriage agreement between Catlyn Tully and her brother Ned hers. The point of it was so obvious it was insulting. They wanted to try to kill him and then ned to become lord. Ned's calm image confused people. Contrary to half the idiots he had ensured that his brother's education was superior. His brother was not a simple weapon with which to aim. He was a true human being. If they thought he could use it they would learn it the hard way. Not that Hariric cared much what they thought anyway.
The next party was that of the Lannisters. Gerion Lannister had been responsible for the creation of the powerful fleet of the West. In theory there were more than sixty Dromones. All made of good quality and much more. Gerion was smart. But his goal was to test it out. Tywin Lannister would then operate according to what he thought of him. For one thing if he proved to be a threat he would kill him. If he proved to be just an inventor he intended to tie him to the West. Hariric honestly found Lannister an…acceptable enemy. However, his reputation had written his way of acting which made it predictable. Tywin, like himself, had no honor, but there were differences between the two. Although those differences didn't mean much to the
The last faction was that of the Tyrells. There was Olena Tyrell herself. The so-called queen of thorns. A truly dangerous woman. A woman who could be a real pain in the ass too. But like Tywin you could easily see the way she acted that made her a predictable person. However with her came a maestre who intended to kill him. The man had received orders from the citadel to kill him. On the one hand, due to their elimination from the masters. On the other hand, for the simple fact that he was leaving them in a bad light. He talks about sore losers if he had to be blunt. A sigh escaped his mouth just from the crap he had to put up with on occasion.
Hariric snapped out of his thoughts as his younger brother entered. Ned was dressed very similarly to him only where Hariric had his hair up in a ponytail he had it loose. But they both enjoyed keeping clean. A picture is worth a thousand words he had once told his brothers and he was glad that the three of them understood. While some might have said it was an exaggeration, no one could deny that they looked much better. The most important thing, none of them seemed less northern because of it, since they had their beards trimmed, but it was good that it was much better and that it was actually better. He helped most of the lords were happy with how things were
''You look very calm for the man who is getting married. If I were your brother, I am more than clear that he would be scared to death of the idea of commitment. Ned approached his brother before taking a drink himself and pouring himself some of the wine. It was one of ned's greatest pleasures. Knowing that his brother had built all this. Some (Jon Arryn) had once tried to exploit that as a weakness. However, his brother had had that in a blunt way. He was Ned Stark. He was capable of his own stuff. They were different. No one could deny it. But Ned just had to be himself. If someone didn't like it they could give it up the ass since that meant they weren't worth the time
''I'm more nervous than you can believe little brother. I am getting married. I am committing my life completely to my wife. It's not that I started chasing women before, but do you know how scary it is to think of making a woman happy? Especially Ashara. She's obviously a women's woman.'' In the time Ashara had been in the North she had earned much approval. She followed the old (the religion of the seven seemed too corrupt and actually too extreme for her taste, reminding her of the monotheists of the earth) and believed that each woman made her own destiny. Needless to say, she has to say that Northern women immediately liked her.
''I guess that's true. I really don't envy you. You are now the lord. Now you will have to put yourself to work more than before and before you had all your projects and everything. I sincerely feel sorry for you brother. But you will also have to pay a lot of attention to your wife and much more.'' Ella Ned winced knowing full well that there were some idiots who would possibly try to use Ashara's status as a Dornishman to make herself an untrustworthy woman. He honestly felt angry because her brother seemed so in love with her. Hariric seemed to be able to easily read what was going through Ned's head, who only sighed, although you could also see something and anger in his eyes.
''There's no way to help it Ned. People like to complain and complain. Ashara is a Dornishman and people like to call them hot-blooded women. Good for them actually. But that means nothing to me. It just means that I have married a really magnificent woman. If someone doesn't like her it's because she's hurting them in some way. Hariric only scoffed at what was the idea that people don't like his wife. If they didn't like it, they could find a wife who was in accordance with his so-called ideals of perfection. She was his, however, and anyone who disturbed her would pay in blood.
''Most of the lords and many of them from the North will be waiting for you to answer that. In fact, I bring you information that the Boltons and their allies have sent an apology that they cannot attend but that they still wish to give her a lot of happiness for her wedding and that they hope it will not be a short marriage. Ned had intercepted a message from a Bolton soldier. Seeing the man's look when he saw his city and much more was fun. The man also looked very pissed off at how things were looking for House Stark. Not that he could blame him. His father had already explained to him at the time that anything that makes the Starks look better made the Boltons very angry.
''Of course they wouldn't come. Because coming would mean somehow having to accept that they are outclassed. Just sore losers. Not that it matters that they don't come I'd rather not deal with men and women who seem to think they are above me for some completely idiotic reason.'' The Boltons were an affair. But the Ryswells' reason was just plain stupid as they seemed to have grown arrogant while the Hornwoods were just an envious bunch by the way. Honestly, Hariric did not feel any compassion for them, but if they tried to threaten him again in any way, there would be bills to pay, that was more than clear to him.
''Is it really necessary to keep them like we've been doing brother? I know Lord Bolton wishes to seize what is the power of House Stark but I would have thought if we offered them a hand in friendship then they would have been on our side in short.'' Ned did not want the North divided. He didn't like the idea of Northern people killing each other in any way. Yet at the same time he couldn't exactly go against his brother. His brother had shown so many times that he knew what he was doing about it that it was as if his brother simply knew better. That didn't mean he wasn't looking to somehow complete things anyway and know what his brother had in mind.
''There was actually a time when I wanted to do that. He wanted to extend the olive branch. To offer all the houses of the north the opportunity to flourish and to convert all together into a mighty little brother kingdom. I'm not happy with what it's like to see the people of the north killing each other. I find it not only stupid but a waste of time…but then the Glovers proved to be such idiots.'' The Glover incident was stupid. They allied with the Boltons only because they were offering a powerful alliance and more benefits as well as taking control of Sea Dragon Point. Eliminating them hadn't been his greatest pleasure but he had done it. It was that day that he knew that there were simply branches to prune unfortunately
''I guess I should have known better than to question you. I know you only want the best for the North. But as you yourself already know, I think there are more problems to face than a fight against vassals like what we seem to have on our hands, brother.'' Ned realized that his brother did not like having to kill them. But he would. Because if the North had to flourish, it had to be done in an efficient way, and they couldn't allow internal sources that could be harmful to them. His brother had proven to be the most sensible about it and he had to admit that his job was not that easy. Being a lord was hard. Being a great lord was even more difficult of all things
''Ned let me make it clear to you. As long as it's in an environment like this, you can question me all you want. A leader who is not questioned does not have people to rely on. He has mere puppets. And when that leader seeks advice in his hour of need he will lack the source of support because no one will have the courage to tell him anything. Let it be clear to you little brother. Hariric smiled at his brother knowing that he was just trying to understand him as best he could. His brother had grown up well if he had to be honest and he was well on his way to becoming a great lord. However, that did not mean that he would not help him from time to time.
''I thanks. By the way, are you aware of the Tullys' intentions? They sent their eldest daughter with the intention of seeking a marriage contract. She was trying to impress me. She's not a bad girl but well I guess she had to let you know about it first.'' Ned knew that his sister despised the Tullys. How they had practically forced the Northern houses into a bad situation. As the Tullys had taken advantage of the winters for the North in the past. His brother did not forgive and certainly did not forget. He had witnessed his cruel punishment and knew it was only a matter of time before Tully did something more idiotic.
''I am perfectly aware of your interests. They are not as invisible as they like to think. In fact they are quite retarded if I have to say so. Their ways of acting are so predictable that it's boring. Hell, I think even you've figured out what they're planning to do after they get married.'' Hariric had no sympathy for the Tullys, not just for what his brother thought. The Tullys were never kings. In fact they were mostly cowards who preferred to run for their lives and let others fix their problems. But since the forge of the seven kingdoms they had too big a head which really pissed Hariric off.
''it's just she seems to find us fascinating. She has been asking a lot of questions. I've made sure no one responds to them or seeks to avoid them however she seems to find the north improved or something. It has been very difficult for me to make him understand that the only thing that the North has that is better is that now as a kingdom it is more advanced in techniques and little else.'' Ned had found the girl interesting. But he didn't think she was smart enough to know the amount of shit she'd get into if she drew too much attention from the wrong people. At least that's what he he believed of course. She had a lack and a massive ignorance and a way of thinking too southern in her mind
''You'd better be careful ned. I won't say who you should marry. I do not believe that the North should seek alliances outside of our territory. They are completely meaningless. But if for some reason you chose to marry her you should know that it would open a really bad can of worms.'' The can in question would be that the North or at least the lords of it would be offended by the fact that both the first and second sons married outside the North. Not that Hariric cared too much. The problem is that too many northerners liked the southern houses especially the Tullys for their part in screwing up their house. Better not mention the Valyrians in any way
''I didn't mean to cause you trouble brother. I am well aware of the great difficulty you would face if that were to happen. But you must know that sooner or later they will seek to marry me and frankly at the moment I don't know who to choose for a possible wedding. At least if I marry the Tully girl I might get rid of the riverlords as future nuisances.'' With his future position as lord of the Twin Wolves and as lord of what was the Grand Northern Canal he would be in a lot of contact with the river lords. An alliance would be beneficial at least in his mind. He knew his brother didn't give two shits about the Tullys but getting them off his back could be good.
''we'll see ned. I do not promise that this will end up happening. I don't like fish for a good reason. But if we see a successful alliance, I'll agree. Although you must know that neither the father nor the mother nor myself would see it as bad that you seek to marry a girl from the free cities. They may not be important noble ladies but many of them come from big wealthy families and you might be surprised by some of them.'' Hariric felt sorry for his brother. However, he was also proud of him. However he was not happy. He felt that his brother deserved more than a woman who would try to order him how things should be done and he would possibly try to break the law of the north in some way.
''I am perfectly aware brother. But at the same time I believe or at least feel that this is the best I can do for the North. I know it may seem like an exaggeration but getting rid of the lords of the rivers will be beneficial. Although I would prefer that you negotiate the agreement just in case. I don't trust in the slightest that they can't think of a trap''. Ned knew that double standards were always a possibility. Besides, he knew that if there was a person who knew how to read people quite well, it was his brother. Hence his confidence that he would be able to see what could be the possible ways of people that he could try something.
''I guess I can do it ned. However let's leave that. It's time to get going. My wedding is coming up and it's time to tell the world to screw the single life. A real pity. I haven't even been able to enjoy it in any way like the rest of the big idiots. By the way ned good job keeping your education partner from coming over.'' Hariric knew that if Robert Baratheon had set foot in the North there was a very good, if not very good chance that he would end up dead. Insulting his sister like he was doing was unacceptable. In addition to young Mya, the man had left another woman pregnant. He had already made the move to get the boy to safety. He could be potentially useful but above all he was afraid of what others could do.
''no offense brother but I am perfectly aware that if Robert had set foot in the North the moment he touched some woman's finger or something there is a very good chance that you or the father would end up breaking it in to pieces for their audacity''. Curiously Ned counted himself as one of Robert's few friends despite not feeling the same way. Robert seemed to think that since he was always telling him without mincing words either way that he screwed himself or that he had to change his ways it made him a loyal friend. Ned had been hitting his head several times and branda didn't even understand that he was going through the mind of the baratheon
''Don't forget Mother Ned. Never forget our mother, where do you think all our ferocity comes from? Our father may give us a little of what is his but never take our precious mother for granted because I can assure you in many ways that she does not mess around when it comes to putting people in their place, you can believe me. about it''. Hariric laughed. Just imagining his mother wielding one of her Valyrian steel daggers and repeatedly stabbing Robert Baratheon brought a smile to her face. His mother adored his sister. It would be a hell of a lot to take if someone tried to do shit to him.
''I suppose it would be the mother who would put him in his place. It cost me a bit anyway. But luckily a crow from Storm's End arrived and that was enough to make the man go there. I certainly don't like Robert's way of thinking about Lyanna as if she's just a thing with no more bro any luck getting him out of the marriage?'' Ned knew that his sister was already in love with someone else. But what is more important. His sister would be a hostage in everything that matters to House Baratheon or the Arryns. She would be used to give up in some way and he knew that her brother would be under a lot of pressure because of it.
''I have ideas and things like that. In any case, it is better that we leave the serious topics. It's a happy day. I want it to be a happy wedding. And more importantly I want the mother not to give us a deadly look because we have spoiled the day in some way. You should know by now how it can be when one of her plans went awry. Hariric actually shuddered. Even with the power of him. With his abilities. And with his mind he had one thing clear: he feared his mother. Some would call it weak. He would call it loving his mother and preferring to avoid unnecessary fights with the mother he brought into the world to avoid headaches of some kind.
Ned nodded and swallowed the remaining contents of his glass before starting to walk. His brother was right. Fucking up his mother's day somehow was the easiest way to end the day somehow. He honestly preferred to avoid problems with her. However, he couldn't help but keep his sister's problems on his mind. But he decided that if he could trust one person it was his brother. There were few people who could in any way get in his way and try to do him any wrong. With that very clear, Ned set off so he could meet with his mother at that moment and let her know how happy he was for this day.
Hariric on the other hand had many other things on his mind. He felt that there were certain things that were better to be controlled. His mother being happy was a gift to him. He wouldn't admit it but every day he saw her smile was a great day for him. Knowing that his mother would be happy was good. Making Ashara happy made him happy. So yes. In his mind the whole day was good and he didn't want to screw it up in any way. With one last drink he got up. He cast himself a calming spell as best he could without looking like a fucking robot and he started walking. The wedding was coming and he could not escape from it and besides that the sooner he got something from the market the better for his life
-Big room-
The Great Hall was essentially the envy of all lords at that time. The room featured walls made of granite covered by black colored wood while the floor had white colored marble. The Great Hall had a construction rather with a first octagonal table at the top and several more tables throughout it. This was done more than anything to bring people together. It was not like the more common celebrations that were held either outdoors or in different rooms. But this was done for big celebrations: weddings, births or the saddest deaths. Hariric thought of it to be good but what caught people's attention were the colored glass sculptures.
Some might argue that this was hariric giving people a real kick in the ass but he didn't care what people thought. The sculptures both on the door and on the top were direwolf. Everyone saw the black glass with red glass eyes and was shocked. Other sculptures were large bears. Others were the sculptures of marine men like those of the manderly house with a trident included. There were also crystal trees made. Those and many more to decorate the living room. Hariric showed quality in his work but it was far from the only thing he had put up that there were also punctures on the walls of the great hall.
The paintings were essentially not showing people. They showed fascinating things. Valyria according to an image before the hecatomb. dragons. Wolves. Big beautiful forests with snow in them. When people saw and enjoyed the images they were stunned even more. Of course once again there were presentations. A bear fighting a squid. A Giant fighting with smaller men. A silver sun that illuminated the morning. A man armed with two axes. Many more images could be seen on the different walls with different paintings. Many gentlemen were amazed, although you could see even more jealousy in the eyes of certain southerners when they saw this, of course, which was not a pleasant moment for people.
The final point was a vault in the ceiling. The people looked amazed. When the night light illuminated it, everyone looked fascinated. We also had to count the winter game torches that caught people's attention. In short, the more the Great Northern Hall of Celebrations was seen, many decided that they had to make requests to Lord Stark. See such works of art. Especially for Cersei Lannister who even went so far as to think of ways to attract the artists in question to be able to enjoy her works especially when she was queen. Not that it mattered much since it was something that belonged to the North, she just didn't know it at the moment.
As if that wasn't enough Lord Stark was sitting with his beloved bride who was now showing off her dress without the furs showing a little more work than nothing. For Cersei Lannister, anger grew in her. Ashara Dayne looked literally gorgeous. She also wore silver earrings with amethyst colored gems and a matching pendant. For Cersei, who boasted of being the most beautiful woman in her seven kingdoms, seeing the woman before her made her gnash her teeth. After seeing this from her he stood up from her and offered her final greetings before leaving with her brother behind her. On that day was the beginning of Cersei's creation of hatred for the north. And it was only just beginning
Hariric on the other hand was looking at everyone. He knew some might complain about everything but when his fellow northern lords said the Great Hall was what it was. To celebrate the best moments of the north. To celebrate the end of conflicts. To mourn the losses of his companions and comrades. It was this big to remind everyone that when you celebrate you have to go big. It was funny how they all agreed. But they were all looking too, and Hariric smiled, saying that they could always save little by little before buying them. These he had made himself. That surprised his fellow nobles. He only said at the time that making this art was a form of relaxation for him. His classmates said that he could do the same with a woman until he pointed out that he was now married.
To Ashara everything she saw proved hariric. On one hand she had wanted to show off. The great hall looked exactly as she knew he would make it look. But at the same time as her there was always art in what she did. The glass sculptures showed a considerable amount of manipulation. She knowing him she had used fire magic combined with transfiguration. Just fascinating. It was one of the reasons she loved him. He was not only a politician, a witch or more. He was an artist when she really needed him.
As they ate they all enjoyed the delicacies that were before them. It was another thing that hariric had done in creating the cook guild. He had recreated many books about the different elements of food and had posted this. Although some would consider this inferior, Hariric had stated on more than one occasion that it was the cooks who kept them fed, so it was better never to contradict them, lest they have problems with them. It was that good at explaining how things worked. At least that was hariric's intention in all this. He also knew that cooks were a kind of art that should above all be treated with due respect.
''You have worked hard. I practically know there aren't half as good dishes in the South. I honestly think you should be worried with all the lords looking at this with envy. Possibly some are already thinking of laying their hands on your cooks honey''. Ashara laughed as she took a lump of meat. They all saw her enjoy it. The meat was chicken and it had been done well. There were different dishes ranging from meat to fish to many more foods. She frankly she could tell that her husband had tried to bring variety to the seven kingdoms with food from what she could tell she was glad otherwise it would be very boring from now on. He just gave his wife an amused look.
''really madam wife? Believe me if someone tries to lay a hand on my cooks we will have fights. I don't have a problem with them sending people to learn how to cook as long as they pay for it but fuck me if they think they can just take my people away.'' Hariric enjoyed talking with his wife while he received funny looks from his parents and his younger siblings. Lyanna looked especially amused at the moment. Hariric could also tell that Lyanna seemed pleased with Ashara's presence which was good since for a while he feared that he simply didn't like her being here for some reason. His sister could be very picky actually
''Hariric, don't go against your wife. It's a very smart thing to do. Going against a woman who can easily make your life miserable is never a good thing. Look at me. I know it's a really bad idea to bother your mother after all.'' Rickard laughed at his son as he gave his wife a loving look as he looked at the new daughter he had and realized that she was a great fit with his son. That made him extremely happy because he knew that thanks to that his son now possibly wouldn't need to depend on himself. Having what he called a sounding board would be pretty cool.
''Any father would know that it is a very bad idea to bother a woman especially if said woman is your wife and future mother of your children. I find it just too much fun to mess with her alone. She is lovely in her way if she may say so my wife. Hariric laughed along with his father as he gave his lady wife a unique look. Ashara just gave him an irritated look at the admission that he enjoyed picking on her of all things. Ashara was very upset at the very thought of it however she at the same time she could tell that she liked her family because she was not as serious as she had thought.
''Forgive my husband and my son. They are great comedians more than anything. They like to make people laugh a bit with their antics. Let me just say though that I'm happy with how it looks on you. You'll be fine here. You'll just have to keep my son a little more focused than necessary.'' Ella lyarra looked fondly but exasperated at her eldest son while the other children laughed at what was the mother's cold gaze on her son. Not that any of them dared to laugh at the fate of his older brother. They all knew all too well what bad news it was to get into Lyarra's crosshairs when she was like this.
''there is nothing to forgive lady lyarra. You just have to train the lady, her son, a little. Don't worry in time I'll be able to teach you some manners. I'm sure I'll even be able to make him do a few poses and a little more just so you know.'' Ashara laughed at Hariric's annoyed look while Lord Rickard made a small face. The three youngest just laughed in amusement at how they treated each other at this point. Lyanna looked positively wild about it. Ashara could feel a growing bond with the girl from the North. Obviously she was a wild spirit that couldn't be tamed. He had heard of her marriage and felt sorry for her since he didn't like Robert Baratheon too much either.
''son, now more than ever I regret having sought this wife for you. She is obviously a tough creature to fear. Ella be very careful or else I will see you having very bad nights. Remember that your wife is the one who decides who enters her bed. Rickard grimaced, though he found the look on his two youngest children amused at the mention of getting into bed. It was just fun. He could also tell that this young woman could be very good for his son. Obviously he had brains and humor which would be necessary for her at this time as a future mistress. His son just gave him a dead look at his comment.
''Yeah, I already know about it. However, there are more things for which I would never bother her. She is my wife and she has the right to be able to do certain things with me. And you two stop making faces. In time I will also find you suitable partners in this regard so that you could feel the joys of a partner in your life.'' Hariric shot his younger siblings a look that could easily melt ice. However, his two younger brothers had a look of panic. Lyanna clenched her teeth while Benjen was giving his older brother looks of sheer panic. Obviously, both were opposed to the idea of marriage, although it was only due to different ideas in both cases, although they were also understandable.
''I never plan to get married. And especially not with some jerk who just thinks that because they've given him some kind of permission I'll let him put a dirty hand on my body somehow''. Lyanna nearly roared but she caught herself in time. Her brother had always treated her like a person and she knew that screwing up her day was very bad of her. But the mere idea of getting married. Her being subjected to a man of all things that she could just tell him what she should do and what she shouldn't do made her feel bad. So yes. She was furious with her brother for even suggesting that. On the other hand though, she knew it was just a joke. Her brother gave her a soft look.
''actually I would like you to look for a good boyfriend sister without whose children will I pamper? I may not be able to afford too much pampering but I'll still need someone else in this family who has children to be able to give them some appreciation, don't you think?'' Hariric felt very sorry for his sister. From the North only a few would not try to be like that with her sister although some idiot could think of only screwing her to screw him which would not be pretty. And the less said about the southerners the better. Those people did not know the appreciation of family. He was a black first and foremost. The family before anything. This is how he would always think and they would never change his mind
''Hey, what am I? I could also marry and have children with someone. You should also show my children the proper treatment, don't you think?'' Ned knew where his brother was going knowing that he was trying to avoid his sister's storm of anger. Not that he could blame her in the least. Every time the word marriage was mentioned there were two things. The first was thinking of Robert Bartheon, which Ned had to admit was the worst possible match for his sister. Second was the fact that his sister liked to be free and most men even from the north liked to be in control. It wasn't a nice thought if he had to say it, let alone for his sister.
''Well ned is that you are my brother. But she is my little sister. Do you know how difficult it would be to imagine yourself as a woman? No sir. Besides everyone in the family, she is the one who has inherited the best traits. I would like to see the children she has. But hey, if my sister is so against getting married, I feel it's better not to put pressure on her." Hariric knew that his sister would be approving of those words which was good. He didn't want any kind of fight with his sister. Also if he had to say it he only knew one man in the whole kingdom who was worthy of her. Now he just had to prove himself to her worthy of such things actually which was a task in itself. His sister could actually be very picky if she had to be honest.
''That's completely unfair. It's not my fault that I was born a man so you know. However, I couldn't imagine Lynna being a mother. Not for nothing sis. It is that you are very wild in fact and I am not able to imagine you with the difficult task of being still taking care of a baby''. Ned made fun of his brother. But he wasn't lying when he said that he really didn't know how he would be able to see his sister being a mother. Yet he also knew that his sister would love any child he had. She was that good actually. Nothing and no one could prevent it either. At least this way he felt that his sister could also relax.
''Actually, I do see her as a mother. It is because of that to be more wild. She will treasure any child she has. My little sister would be a great mother. She would love them and make sure her children grow up strong and well that she is more than can be said for some worthless oaf that I am thanking whatever deity for keeping away from my wedding. If Robert Baratheon had set foot in his wedding and messed with his wife, he would have killed him. If he had tried to sleep with any northern woman in his presence he would have castrated him. And if he had done anything else he would have made it disappear. It was that simple in his mind
''Yeah. I hear that you are in the sad position of having to marry Robert Baratheon. Let me be the first person to give you my condolences. No self-respecting woman should marry such a whore. Oberyn may be a little more than wild in her tastes but at least he doesn't say he's in love and a lot more shit. Before awakening her memories, her opinion of Robert Baratheon was bad. After she woke up, his memories were that said jerk should have been put aside a long time ago because of his attitude towards people and constant disrespect towards the opposite sex, especially his future girlfriend.
''thanks for the support. The father and brother are looking for anything to get me out but it is difficult. The thing is, that Jon Arryn bastard negotiated a very iron contract with the help of his father. It's just unfair to me and worse because he would have to leave the North that I love so much. It was crystal clear to Lyanna that if it were hers she'd rather not deal with Robert Baratheon even if the world was somehow going to shit. The man was not only the worst kind of swinger possible but before he did shit he liked to throw his love into the air. The bastard could die for what she could say more with her dick in a whore
''understandable. Some will say this land is cold. But the same would be said of Dorne that it is hot. Yet it is our home. So when someone basically tells us that we have to just drop it and tell us that we have to spend our lives in a situation that we don't like believe me girl in the end you get angry about it in many ways. Ashara could sympathize with the young girl. She could obviously see that Lyanna Stark loved the North. Not only that but in addition to loving him she knew that in the South all he would be is a broodmare to a worthless bastard with delusions and grandeur. It was just sad if you stopped to think about it too
''It's not just that, too. Robert I have met him twice. Both times he talks about his plans. Plans in which I have no say. It's my fucking life and so I should have my own decision on them but no. In his mind I am not a person. I don't have any rights. I'm just one more piece to be used, no more, no less, and I'm sure that when he gets tired of me, only God knows that while I'll be locked up in the fucking south.'' Lyanna's unadulterated fury came out courtesy of everything she felt. From everything she held back. How she had to endure. To her surprise Ashara was not looking at her with any complaint but she was giving him a look of sympathy and much more.
''believe me I know what you're talking about. My biggest fear has always been marrying a man who would basically put me in his bed and do that to me. She would make me the mother of children in whom I would have no voice and finally I would be nothing more nor less than little more than a broken woman. That's why when they told me I was marrying your brother I was intrigued. I knew that northerners view women in much the same way as southerners, although obviously they could do something with inheritance laws. Would be the best''. Ashara also felt that it was better not to mention that if this had been the first child she had, if it was a boy it meant the husband was dead and the bad was over. Of course I wouldn't say that to the girl
''then you're lucky. My brother despite great pain in the ass that can be with his character and everything is a man among men. You will not find a person who is more loyal and hardworking. You will not find someone more intelligent but incredibly cunning. Not to mention that he has the biggest pair of balls of all time. I think he still has to give you your two wedding gifts.'' Lyanna only had good words to say about her older brother. Was she supposed to say bad things about him? She didn't look capable. Not with a man who had supported her more than anyone besides her parents.
''Wow thanks sis I didn't know you had such a high opinion of me. However, I would have liked you to leave the subject of gifts. It was a matter that I would have liked very much to be a surprise for my lady wife. Hariric gave her sister a slightly serious look who only stuck her tongue out at him. Throughout this whole thing Benjen had been quiet watching the whole thing. But when he saw his brother say that to his sister, he was surprised. However he was debating whether he could ask the question. He was certainly intimidated. To her surprise, Ashara seemed to notice that he was nervous and she glanced at her brother at that moment.
''Hariric your brother seems incredibly nervous. I think he wants to ask you a question but he is afraid to unleash fury on him of all things. You'd think they're being taught to think about you about it beloved''. Ashara filed for another time about the gifts. Knowing her husband, they would be valuable gifts with symbolism behind them. She felt that it was better not to interfere for the moment and she preferred to focus on the little brother who was incredibly scared at that moment with looks of pure panic in her eyes when she saw that everyone was paying attention to him. Hariric however showed once again the gentle side of him. She knew that she had it. She had seen how she treated her children from the afterlife after all.
''Benjen you must know that it doesn't matter what goes through your head. If it's a silly idea we can't know until you tell me so if you're afraid of someone at this table then I can assure you no one will judge you for it. You are after all the youngest I think you are entitled to a little slack from what you are told''. Hariric smiled at his little brother. He really felt sorry for his younger brother. He knew that Benjen was certainly intimidated by his presence at least a little. But at the same time he knew that his brother had to grow a column so that in the end he would be respected as a future lord.
''I…I just wanted to say that I didn't see the point of getting married. I mean, I'm just the last kid. There will be nothing for me. Why would a woman want to marry someone who can't bring her anything?''. Benjen looked down embarrassed, expecting his brothers' taunts for it. He expected to go the complaints. In fact, he had heard of the night's watch and was thinking of joining them. However his comments went to hell when he saw a hand placed over his. A kind hand. Raising his head he noticed that she was his brother's wife. He couldn't help but be embarrassed by the look of the woman in question. He could tell that she was very beautiful and intelligent. His brother was very lucky if he had to say it.
''Don't ever be ashamed to say what you think. I only know your brother a little and I think I can honestly say that what he knows about him is that he takes care of his family. It's honestly one of the traits I like the most about him. That he doesn't see the family as pieces in some intricate game. He sees family as family.'' Ashara smiled at the boy. He was scared. He didn't know his place in the world. He obviously feared what would become of his life in the future. He couldn't blame him. When did he get the quality to see a man who has so many sons be able to hand out settlements to all of his sons? It wasn't really easy at all. But she knew her husband to think about it
''Benjen I understand your concerns but you shouldn't worry so much. I always have my family in mind above all things. You don't have to be afraid of anything, I can assure you that whatever you want, you can and you will always have my support. Hariric frowned. He hadn't realized that his brother felt that way. How could he have missed such a thing? He didn't make sense in his mind if he was to be honest. Yet at the same time he could honestly say that his brother could be intimidated by his presence. Ned was the same at first until he realized that he could actually shine on his own.
''It's just what I said big brother. I am only the third child. Even Lyanna is seen as better than me. I have also heard some people say that normally the third children are thrown out of the home so that there are no fights over the inheritance. I can assure you that it will not be like that by any means big brother." Whatever benjen expected what he didn't expect is to be pulled into a tight hug. When he realized it, he noticed that he was being embraced by an Ashara. She was giving him a loving hug while at the same time giving him a very serious look. There was pain in his eyes, too. His siblings and even his parents were now looking at him with wide eyes.
''You are part of this family and even if your brother said shit I am very clear that you would not be leaving this family without another child so you can believe me when I say that you have nothing to worry about in this regard. However, I think that before you get an idea like that, you should ask your brother what he thinks about it, don't you think?``. Ashara smiled at the boy. She knew he possibly had this eating him up and seeing the wedding only made him more nervous. Although a happy celebration, no one had realized how bad the child was. She could already see her husband kicking himself.
''Benjen…look at me little brother. I have nothing against you. I'm not angry or anything for the fact that you say what you think now. I'm actually pissed off with myself. You are my brother but you have been suffering a lot in this time. If I found out, I could have stood up sooner. You're not just the third child. You are my brother. It would take something worse than a god to separate you from me." Hariric gave his little brother a sad look. Let his brother think of such things. He felt like someone had hit him square on. He couldn't believe he'd even thought of it anyway. But he couldn't deny that his brother's fears could be for a reason.
''But not being able to contribute anything. You are brilliant. Intelligent. Look at all you've done. And now you have married a very pretty woman who is clearly the one with your heart. You will leave me alone. I'll be alone brother''. Benjen looked down terrified at whatever he was going to say. Whatever he was expecting, he didn't expect his brother to give him a rather serious look. He expected a little trouble. Or even a mocking comment. And instead of that his brother got up from his chair. He walked over to where he was and pulled him into a hug. It felt so good to be held in such a way if he had to be honest. It was a feeling that made him feel warm
''listen to me and let me tell you one thing very clear. It doesn't matter to me what anyone says. For me it doesn't matter what opinion anyone has or anything like that. The only thing that really matters to me is that my brother is happy. May my family be happy. So stop thinking that bullshit. You're part of this family whether you're my last brother of three or even five, okay?'' Hariric could give his brother a sympathetic look at this point he should have thought about it. If ned was back then with his own problem then he would be too. Hariric admonished himself that it was a mistake. However, before he could say anything else, it was his father who spoke.
''anyway benjen you shouldn't think like that. Your older brother has never abandoned you in the slightest. In fact you should know that Black Wolf Port in what is Sea Dragon Point will be waiting for you when you are older. So I don't think that you are without any land is true child.'' Rickard looked at his youngest son. He didn't know where he got such thoughts from. The third son thing he could easily see coming from some idiot from Essos trying to scare him off. He would have to talk to his son to discuss that issue. If anyone believed that he could just fuck with his children they would be learning the hard way that it was a big mistake to think
''You are my precious son. I would never leave you behind. Yeah. You are the third and what the fuck? No matter what you think it is but never forget the most important. I love you for who you are my son. He lyarra looked lovingly at his youngest son. He didn't know he was having such a bad time. But he should have known. He should have been able to see that his precious son was having trouble somehow and deal with it anyway. But that didn't matter anymore because luckily for her it seemed her son hadn't been able to contain it anymore and her son and her brilliant wife had been more than capable of resolving the matter effectively. Needless to say, she was happy with how her son had resolved the issue of Benjen's fear.
''You are my brother Benjen. If you had told me, he could have informed you immediately that any fear you have is negligible. Hariric would always have cared for us. But that doesn't matter now come here for me to hug you big idiot''. Ned could see his brother actually suffering for it. In fact he could be honest in saying that his brother Benjen looked a lot like him when he was younger. Insecure due to the great achievements that his older brother had. However, just like when his brother dispelled them, he also did it with Benjen. He gave his brother a grateful look for being as capable as he was and the big brother that he was.
''look how stupid you are. I may not be the sharpest tool and all but even I know our brother would move heaven and earth for us. I have no doubt that our brother was looking for ways to be able to resolve what is the dilemma that you were the third brother. Don't be an idiot anymore.'' Lyanna looked at her brother hard. He was just being a bit of a fool in her mind. But in the end he was a very big fool in her opinion. Distrust her brother. A brother who moved earth and sky for them. He was incredibly short what he had done with the way he thought if he had to say so.
Benjen had to say that this is not expected of his family. He had almost expected a little shouting match. Instead he felt this… he had no more words to say what he felt than being able to say that he was very happy.
''Well before the jerks come asking me to strip and shit, why don't we question Harry about the gifts he had in mind for me, huh?'' And so another can of worms was opened on that day
