Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Trapped In a Butterfly Sim (Heroes)
In an unnamed dimension, within the Bureaucracy of Magic, there is a special room designated for special use. Specifically, for the Magical High Commission to conduct trials for special cases with each member serving a specific role; Rhombulus, the crystal-headed councilman with snake heads for hands, acted as prosecutor for the trial; Hekapoo and her numerous clones functioned as stenographer and jury; Omnitraxus Prime, master of space-time, sat as the judge; Lincoln was the defendant, siting in the middle of the court room cross-legged with his appointed defense attorney standing nearby. To start the trial, Omnitraxus hit the gavel.
"We bring forth today's case, Lincoln v. Magical High Commission. The defense is on trial for the following charges: Study of Dark Magic, Obstruction of Justice, Conspiracy against the Butterfly Kingdom, Aiding and Abetting a Fugitive, Arson, Fraud, Larceny, Opposing Predeterminism, Continuously delaying the patent officiation of 'Man with the Plan', and the Second Degree Murder of approx. 100 Mewman citizens." The giant skull lowered his head. "How does the Defendant plea?"
Unconscious, Lincoln couldn't give an answer.
"GUILTY!" Rhombulus accused. "Look how he refuses to answer! Clearly the sign of a guilty conscious!"
"Under regular circumstances, I would rule it so." Omnitraxus spoke. "However, we cannot over look the multitude of good the Defendant has done for both Mewni and Earth. Does the Defense's attorney have any words?"
Stepping into the overhead light, councilman Lekmet stood. "Bah~"
"Not guilty." The judge hit the gavel. "Let the proceedings commence!"
What marks the start of a new Era?
Most times when history is made, those who do so are ignorant of their own contribution. Eras of peace, war, prosperity, or ruin are named. The third of era of the Butterfly Kingdom was named, 'The Age of Heroes', and was marked by the birth of the first Star Queen since Estelaria. It would be a glorious time for the kingdom, marked by Queens who committed heroic deeds. Aesteria, the Mother of Stars, was remembered for one of her two most impressive feats, the establishment of an official calendar that coincided with the ten constellations in Mewni's sky.
This would be new era for Lincoln Radio as well, along with a backstory to reflect it. Years ago, an ancestor by the name of Lillian Radio left the kingdom because she couldn't agree with the royal family and council on the treatment of non-mewmans. She believed that people should treated with fairness and equality; when Lillian took over as Grand Mewnister, she renounced her position and left the kingdom along with her children and loyal followers who shared her views. Many nobles thought she was foolish, but with the use of her magic and education, she created her own kingdom.
Lillian Radio's magic specialized in enchanting objects to perform wonderous affects. Performing a ritual on Radio Tower, she conjured metal legs like a spider to walk the tower out of the capital. Over time, more people came and more buildings were enchanted to walk the continent. Lillian's heir and son would marry the head of a traveling circus; as his proposal gift, he constructed a magnificent colosseum for her troupe to perform. As more and more people joined their caravan of nomads, more and more buildings were constructed and enchanted. Soon, the wandering kingdom of Radio was formed.
Lincoln Radio, born the middle child of twelve, was crowned king at the age of 11 years. Under the wandering kingdom's laws, only the member of the royal family with the strongest magic affinity could rule when they reached a adolescence or older. Despite the jealousy of his older sisters, the family supported Lincoln taking power. Three years before he would be crowned, Queen Rita Radio, ordered the kingdom head to Butterfly Kingdom to form an alliance with their former monarch. After hours of negotiation, Queen Festivia agreed to an alliance on the condition that the Radio Kingdom settle around the capital for at least five years. Queen Rita agreed to her condition, but only after she agreed to give citizens of both kingdoms the same protection regardless of race.
It was during this time that the Radio children would meet Asteria, the first princess, and was the same age as the future Radio King, Lincoln. Despite their similar age, the royal princess did her best to avoid him in favor of his younger sisters. The one activity they both enjoyed was visiting the Firefly Library; the boy's favorite things to read were the books in the forbidden section, of which he would sneak into whenever the chance presented itself. Soon, Lincoln turned elven was named king of the wandering country. More time passed, and the the two royals turned fourteen, and Asteria inherited her family's wand. Having grown up together, the two had established a genuine friendship; the Butterfly princess being welcomed as another sister for Lincoln and his siblings. Yet, peaceful times did not last.
After the princess's birthday, Lincoln and his older sisters were needed to aid an allied kingdom who was in the middle of a civil war. For six years they had to be away from the rest of their family and loved ones to fight in the war. Leni Radio died in a fire while Luna was taken in battle, by the time the remainders returned, their hearts were broken and hollow. When Asteria, now Queen of Mewni, saw the Radio King and his remaining, she ran to hug them in a strong embrace along with her new husband, Orion Firefly. For an entire year, Lincoln kept to himself in his tower, too heartbroken to face the world again. If the following tragedy had not occurred, the real Lincoln might have never left the dungeon.
On the dawn of the day following Mewnipendence, the celebration of the Butterfly kingdom being founded, both Queen Butterfly and King Radio received news that more than a hundred children under the age of five disappeared. Search efforts were made, but after two days no sign of the children or their captors were found. Tired of the excuses, both ruling monarchs left to search for them along with Asteria's pet albino alligator. The Queen used her ancestor's compass spell, leading the duo to the body of a girl drowned in the river; then it towards the Forrest of Certain Death. The two followed after giving the child a proper burial with help of Lucy Radio.
Hours later, they found the missing children in a mountain cave by a band of monster mercenaries. From what the two overheard, the monsters were hired to capture Princess Etheria, Asteria's five year old daughter; but when that failed, the flutist who used magic to hypnotize the kids got a plan to ransom the kingdom for their captives. Seizing their opportunity, the two mage practitioners, one a veteran, ambushed the mercenaries and rescued the abducted children. They could have gotten the ill children to the kingdom sooner, but a storm kept them from progressing so they needed to find a shelter for them all. Running off on his own, the pet alligator exchanged sounds with a wild member of its own kind at the edge of a lake. Seconds later, an ancient structure rose from the lake that was big enough for everyone.
That first night in the sanctuary, the only adults in the room spoke about the situation; intuitively, Lincoln whistled, allowing him to see her heart and end the story. Seeing each other as they truly are, Asteria thanked her friend for trying to save the children, even if it didn't change anything in real life. Once she vanished, Lincoln cried for a moment then proceeded to the next story, Etheria the Knight.
"And so, Judge Omnitraxus, on the grounds I just stated, it should be evident to the court that this boy is completely, and unrefutably, guilty!" Rhombulus finished his argument.
"Very thorough. The defense may now state their case!"
Stepping forward on Lincoln's behalf, Lekmet cleared his throat before speaking. "Bah~"
"Objection!" The crystal man hit the table. "That statement does not pertain to this trial! Also, without evidence, there is no validation to his claim that I unjustly crystalized him before!"
"I'll allow it. For now."
While the court continued, outside of the building was a small group making a plan for entry. To keep the risk at a minimum, only IMP, Star, and Marco would be doing the rescuing. Hiding behind a cluster of boulders, the rescue squad talked about how they'll commence the operation.
"Let's just rush those fucking doors and get my baby back!" Decked out in weapons like a commando, Millie got a bazooka ready.
"We can't act too recklessly." Marco checked to make sure they weren't discovered. "From what Glossaryck said, the Bureaucracy of Magic is maze. If we go in unprepared, we could be lost forever at best; or we could be captured and crystalized at worst."
"We could sneak in from above?" Loona suggested. "Maybe use some spell to get us to the roof and then I use my sense of smell to track him?"
"Wonderful idea, Loona!" Blitz gave his adopted daughter a hug, resulting in him being pushed away.
"That might work!" Star agreed. "Millie could fire a hole into the roof, me and Loona go in to find Link, while the rest of you raid from below!"
Millie cocked the firearm. "I like the way you think, Princess."
"It might help us get in, but how do we get through all the security and the Commission?" Looking through the binoculars, Moxxie doubted the idea. "I wish we had Lincoln here, he would form one of his great plans with a long codename, then we would play it out, accomplish our goal, and then go home!"
Pondering the notion, the blonde mewman looked at the magic building. "What would Lincoln do in this situation?"
Loona, exasperated, snapped. "Lincoln is the most manipulative, scheming, puzzling little bastard I have ever met! He literally got sent to HELL, and in the first day got the backing of it's big wig's brat, and blackmailed a royal into teaching him to do magic tricks! He would just talk his way out of this!"
"Maybe." Star didn't argue. "But whatwould he do?"
"A situation where there is no way we could get in without getting caught?" Blitz sarcastically responded. "If I know him half as well as you and your Twink know him, he'd just turn himself in!"
An idea formed between everyone in the group. A minute later, everyone was outside the Bureaucracy with their hands in the air. Speaking through a megaphone, Star Butterfly addressed the building.
"We are here to turn ourselves in!" She announced, everyone uneasy. "We came here to rescue our friend, but now we turn ourselves in! Come on, take us to the council so we can face punishment!"
"Not question you or your girlfriend's plan, but are you sure this will work?" Moxxie whispered to Marco at his side.
"I am... about 30% certain this will work." The Hispanic teen answered.
Moxxie considered this response. "Not zero at least."
Exiting from the building was a moose-like creature in a security guard uniform. He walked up to the group confused by their assembly. "Um, hi, I'm Sean, the security guard. I, ah, never really have been in this situation before. You all are turning yourselves in?"
"We are here to face judgement for our crimes! Please, take us to the Magic High Commission!"
Sean covered his ears after Star spoke on the megaphone again. "Oh, sure. I guess I'll bring you guys in." He opened the front door. "Please, come in."
Peacefully walking in, Millie took a moment to whisper to the blonde girl. "I still think we could have done your plan."
"Me too. Me too."
Etheria the Knight, the first princess to be trained in the ways of chivalry, and one of the most beloved queens of the age. Lincoln entered her story the same as before, when he was 8 years old and his family came to Mewni to establish an alliance with their old kingdom. When they were younger, the two had a nice friendship; but it slowly changed when they began knight training under Sir Berry, along with his other squires all of them nobles from Mewni families. Although he wasn't exemplary is most of the training, Lincoln proved himself to be unmatched against his peers with a sword. However, despite being welcomed by the princess, he was not accepted by the squires; and slowly, Etheria stopped spending time with him as well.
"On the riverbank shallow, she stood sweet and callow, calling 'Hams and Yams, One moon for both'~"
It was a joyful night at Butterfly Castle, for it was the princess' Lonely Star Ball, a coming of age ceremony for the Queen's daughters when they turned 10 years old. While the local nobles were celebrating in the castle ballroom, Lincoln Radio faked being sick to spend the evening with his friends. Something that was unlike the previous lives, this Lincoln Radio had the Action News Team; their story alternates actually. Unlike him playing the part of a mewman, each of his friends was a monster in this story. Rusty, Zach, and Liam were kappa like Ludo, Stella was a slime, Kara was a frog man, and Clyde was a septarian; the group became friends before the Radio Kingdom arrived in Mewni, but because of public view of monsters, Lincoln is often bad mouthed for his association with them. Returning from a night of shenanigans, the group sings a folk song as they walk through the garden.
"Is this really what House Radio has come to?" Sitting under the pavilion was the girl of honor, Princess Etheria Butterfly. A girl the same age as Lincoln and his group, but mewman and with lavender hair and deep purple eyes, along with fleur-de-lis symbols on her cheeks. "Do you think so little of your own people that you would seektheir company?"
For the last couple of years that they've known each other, Etheria shared the majority opinion of monsters. To maintain good relations with their kingdoms they had to be civil with one another, but the he barely got along with her or the other children.
"Oh, I didn't know you had to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth to be in the castle!?" Confronting the princess, Rusty took charge. "From what I hear, at least we're better company than your boyfriend!"
To get under her skin, Kara and Zach acted out the princess and her 'boyfriend'. "Oh, Princess Butterfly, you are the most beautiful and gallant lady in the kingdom!" Zach fake swooned.
"Germain Fields, you are my one and only!" Kara acted. "Always giving me your love, even though I'm boring, spoiled, and annoying!"
Unlike they were with Lincoln, the monsters in the group didn't have a high opinion of mewmans of Butterfly kingdom. As they laughed at the joke, Lincoln couldn't take his eyes of the signs of unease Etheria had on her face. "Gang, could you leave me and her alone for a moment?"
"Sure, Buddy." Clyde led the others out the garden to give the two some time alone.
"I'm sorry for that. My friends aren't usually so rude." The white-haired boy approached. "Sorry, I missed your ball. I didn't think you would notice."
"You've been in my company since before we started our training to become knights, and you thought I wouldn't notice?" She did her best to hid her anger.
"The other squires don't like me." Lincoln spoke bluntly. "To them, my family are traitors. I can't imagine why you would want me at the ball."
"I can't want someone I've seen everyday for two years to be there at an important event?" She did her best to remain composed. "That I want you to be there with your sisters to celebrate. I want you to have a better relationship with our fellow squires. I want you to be accepted here. I want you... it doesn't matter." She sat on the pavilion step. "Why did you leave?"
Lincoln looked away. "The world of royals isn't all parties. My family may have betrayed your kingdom, but we did so because we believe people should have the freedom to live as they wish."
"You say everyone in the Radio kingdom lives as they wish?" Etheria stood.
"No, that would be a childish fantasy. But 'freedom' is not about 'what is', but to have the choice of 'what to be'. Even if what we wish never comes to us, to have the freedom to seek it is a right ever creature has a divine right to." Standing resolute before his peer, the two were equally stubborn but Lincoln was the one who laughed. "You know what I just realized?"
She considered the question. "You're denser than steel?"
"No, we may be the only two in this kingdom who can be called equals." He saw her confusion. "As the ones who will take control of our respective kingdoms, we are of truly equal standing. Our parents are above us, and our friends, my sisters, every other person in our lives are below us."
"What does that matter?"
"A person's true character is best shown in how they treat their equals." Link's eyes became dull. "From how we've treated each other, it seems we have failed as the people who will one day shape the future."
"Amazing..." Etheria lightly nodded her head. "That was complete nonsense. I asked why did you not attend the ball. Tell me."
Flushed, he looked away. "I overheard our moms speaking, Queen Butterfly thought it would be unwise for me to attend knight lessons. That we're growing up, and I should... in two days, I leave for Elfendor."
"What!?" She broke composure. "I'll talk to my mother. You can convince her to change her mind. I don't know why she..." After a moment of thought, she understood why.
"Congratulations, I wish you a happy future." Lincoln smiled before walking away.
What came next was the second occurrence of a story breaking apart. As the white cracks shattered reality, Lincoln was sent to the next story, Skywynne the Queen of Hours.
"If there are no further statements, we shall proceed to conclude the trial." Omnitraxus turned to the Hekapoo clones. "Has the jury reached a verdict?"
The real Hekapoo, acting as jury foreman, stood. "We have. The Me's of the jury find the defendant, completely, fully, without a shred of doubt-"
"Um, excuse me?" Sean peeked his head through the door. "Sorry to interrupt, but we have some criminals who say they want to turn themselves in."
"Turn themselves in!?" Rhombulus stood up. "That's a first. Okay, bring them in."
Obeying orders, the rescue party entered with a bang. That is, Millie used her bazooka to blow a giant hole in the door. "Listen, hand over my boy right now, and I'll only kill most of you!"
"The jury asks for a quick recess to kick some ass!" Hekapoo got excited to fight of the group.
"Sustained." Omnitraxus hit the gavel.
"Let's fuck this trial up!" Blitz lead the charge, firing at anyone he saw.
Supporting the feral Millie on melee, Marco watched her back against the clones. Going against them from a distance, Moxxie shot down councilman while Loona and Star fought with Blitz on the frontlines. The marksman imp's mission was the most important, securing Lincoln during the chaos. Closing in from the sidelines, Moxxie reached his coworker and picked him up; taking advantage of the situation, he got them both out without getting caught. As he carried the boy over his shoulder, Moxxie kept running down the path he memorized coming in.
"We're out!" The imp cheered. "Just hold on! After Marco gets to the rendezvous point we'll go someplace safe!"
"You think he can take you anywhere I won't find you?" Talking from around the corner, Hekapoo appeared cross-armed.
Panicked, the imp assassin pointed his rifle. "Don't come any closer!"
"I'm not here to capture him." She placed her hands behind her head. "If you want to keep him safe, I recommend a better place than Mewni. Follow me." Hekapoo opened a door to a dark room.
"What is this place?" Moxxie couldn't see in this darkness.
Hekapoo snapped her fingers and candles lit the room, revealing a spell circle just like the one Lincoln drew from before. The symbols were different and it was made using candles, but Moxxie understood his coworker's artistic flare anywhere. Stupefied, he dropped his gun.
"How... how did you make this? Why!?"
Snickering, she pulls out a letter from the neckline of her dress. "Simple, small fry, I had instructions on how to make this and when to do so."
Moxxie unfolded the letter. "This is Lincoln's handwriting! When did he give you this!?" Things got a lot more confusing for him. "Wait, it says... 'in a week'? He gave you instructions on to make one of his circles in a week, and here? How would he even know to have this planned!? I mean, it's... he gave you this from the future!"
"Congratulations, you can read writing on the wall." The red-haired woman sarcastically applauded. "I made the circle, it's supposed to send him somewhere he's supposed to go."
"Where in the multiverse would he want to go?"
"Not where, but when?" She said, cryptic. "But also where? If his instructions are correct, this will send him someplace in time. Where, when, and why, I don't know... . Alright, let's get him in the center!"
"Are you insane!?" Moxxie backed away. "You think I'm going to let you send a child to Satan knows where all alone, unconscious, and with untold dangerous waiting!?"
Hekapoo calmly approached. "It doesn't matter what I think. What matters, is do you trust your boy's judgement?"
Moxxie had never called Lincoln his boy, but the sound of it didn't feel wrong. Holding the child in his arms, serene and ignorant of what was happening around him, the imp took a deep breath before handing him over to Hekapoo. "Stay safe, Lincoln."
Placing the boy inside the circle, the forger of dimensional scissors followed the instructions. She took one of her blades and made an incision on the boy's hand. As the blood poured out, the candles began glowing in a rainbow of colors. The flames spiraled around Lincoln as he levitated above the ground. A second later, a portal of white light appeared above him and drew the boy inside. Watching the child he's gotten to know vanish, Moxxie cried silently as the spell came to an end.
"If it's not too much to ask, what was the verdict." The imp asked.
"Guilty." Hekapoo cheerfully answered. "He did kill those people." She looked into the shorter being's eyes. "But if he hadn't, many more people wouldn't exist right now. Me, the Council, and who knows how many more he saved."
Moxxie gulped. "I feel like I don't even know who Lincoln is."
She patted the imp's back. "You know who Lincoln is, you just don't know everything. Trust me, he'll tell you more about himself when he's ready." The two left the room.
"Thank you, Miss." Moxxie was grateful for her aid. "Are me and the others going to be killed?"
"Nah, Glossaryck told us to let you all go before we captured your friend. Well, everyone but Rhombulus, but we weren't gonna crystal Lincoln."
At ease, the two continued walking back to the others. "If it's not too personal to ask? Why do you listen to that... floating, blue fairy?"
Hekapoo laughs. "You could say me and the rest of the Council are to him, what Lincoln is to you."
He had left the Age of Heroes, but the memories of his time continued to haunt him like a dream he couldn't escape by waking up. The final three queens proved to be more of a challenge than he could have anticipated. Skywynne the Queen of Hours, Soupina the Strange, and Galaxia the Clairvoyant, exceptional people and friends he regretted parting from.
Skywynne was a brilliant magic user whose innovation surpassed Lincoln's own, much to the white-haired boy's jealousy. They at met as children but never truly upgraded from acquaintance to friend until they turned fifteen and the princess Skywynne was given permission to study at Elfendor, and Lincoln went with her to study for himself. Away in the University Dimension, the salmon-haired princess studied Astronomy in her first year while training in magic, later advancing to a specialization in Astrophysics. Meanwhile, the Radio king took to the study of Chemistry and Molecular Physics, joining his new friend Skywynne in her magical education after classes. Four years later, at the age of eighteen, the two graduated as two of the university's most honorable students. During their time as students, they had the privilege of studying under Omnitraxus Prime after one of Skywynne's experiments lead to a loop in time. The time to free her soul would come a year later when she learned of her parents assassination; at the end of her story, the two former colleagues shared a bow of mutual respect.
Soupina Butterfly, compared to her mother, was an easier person to befriend. Because of her sweet disposition, the princess was greatly loved by the Radio family, particularly Leni and Luan; Soupina and Leni were both airheaded, and Luan liked that her friend was an easy pranking victim. Truly, it was a peaceful youth, but it was always filled with the odd whispers from people who commented on Soupina for her strange fixation on soups. Like a good friend, Lincoln defended her, with intimidation from his sisters, and never let what people said about the princess stop him from being her friend. The people who mocked her were proven wrong when a pandemic hit Mewni, affecting crops and citizens, with Soupina's healing soup saving countless lives. Unfortunately, the story reached its finish when Soupina failed to save her fiancé from dying of the plague; Lincoln comforted her along with their other friends, Osmond and Sir Hollow. After performing the whistling spell, Lincoln was face to face with Queen Soupina; the apparition gave him a powerful hug and thanked him for being the brother she never had.
Finally, Queen Galaxia the Clairvoyant, the last queen from the Age of Heroes. The two shared a similarity, being that they were the future rules of their respective kingdoms, and they both had white hair that made them objects of ridicule outside their families. Although Lincoln only had strange hair, Galaxia was born with a form of albinism and had to live cautiously of sunlight. Their friendship was so strong, that when the princess went with her Grandmother, Skywynne, to the Plains of Time when she was ten, Lincoln was asked to join. On their trip, Galaxia fell into a river of time and nearly died. A month later, it was her Lonely Star Ball, and every boy she asked to dance the waltz refused; as a sign of generosity, the newly crowned King of Radio asked his friend.
It would be nearly twenty years before Lincoln could end the story. During that time, the two learned magic from Glossaryck while performing their royal duties. Galaxia found a partner in Condor Redbird, the two marrying five years after Soupina abdicated the throne to her daughter. Four years later came the 1st Mewnian War, an continental conflict that resulted in the deaths of about ten million soldiers and civilians across Mewni. For the first couple of years, both kingdoms Radio and Butterfly stayed out of the war, but when it became clear conflict would not end soon, the monarchs acted. Not one year later, the Treaty if Gorge was signed, and the 1st Mewnian War officially ended. The chance to end the story would come a year later as Queen Butterfly and King Radio attended the yearly Tournament, the two went to the tent of fortune teller who red the Queen's future, bringing the story to an end.
As Lincoln had now completed the Age of Heroes, the door to the other side presented itself. Before he left, Galaxia stopped him and gave him her final prediction, 'A traveler's journey is to return home, not as the same as when he left, but as a foreigner to their homeland'. Departing with those words, the devil-tailed Lincoln exited back to the road; now he was on the outskirts of Mewni, with crowds of people happily going about their lives on the paved road.
"How did it go?" By his side, Crescenta asked.
Smiling, Lincoln responded. "I believe they're are peace." Happy to have a familiar face with him.
Merrily, the two walked down the road, a never ending parade the whole journey. As they kept walking, the white-haired boy noticed something was in his pocket; he pulled out one of his Knight pieces, glowing a lavender light on the inside. Realizing what that meant, he moved it to his breast pocket. After almost a fortnight of walking, taking rest in inns when tired, the duo reached the next gate. It was dark, contrasting the bright atmosphere, and gothic aesthetic that would have made Lucy marvel. On the gate read the words, 'The Dark Ages'.
"We could look for another way?" Crescenta spoke, nervous. "Maybe you could leave and resume another time?"
"There's no certainty." He turned down. "What do you do when I'm off the road? Does time pass differently?"
"I don't notice. I see you walk in, I close my eyes, and you're back, but now the road's different."
Steeling his nerves, Lincoln approaches the door. "Wish me luck." The gate opened, and he entered the 'Longest Night' in Mewni history.
It was a dark and snowy night. A strong blizzard had hit, blanketing everything in snow. Walking through the white landscape was three cloaked figures, two were a father and daughter acting as guides. The person they were guiding paid to be taken to the source of a mysterious sound. Calling to them like an emergency siren, the sound got stronger as the group reached an empty clearing in a dense woods.
"Here we are, the place you wanted to come." The father spoke.
"If you can tell us, why come to a remote place in the Knee?" The daughter inquired.
The Boiling Isles was a dangerous place to live, especially in places like the Knee where temperatures could reach below zero in daylight.
It was hard to see the third figure's face, but they wore large circular glasses. "There was a premonition sent to my Coven Head from the Oracles that required investigation." They looked around, pinpointing the source at a small lump in the snow. "Wait a minute."
Kneeling, the figure dug through the snow and found a child whistling. The child looked like a boy with snow white skin and strange, white outfit that perfectly camouflaged him in the landscape. The whistling felt familiar to the figure; as they inspected further, they found the child was using magic to warm his body with sound waves. As bizarre as it was, the feature that surprised the figure most was the piece of paper in the boy's hand. They puled it out and saw that it was instructions to perform a spell that they had invented.
They inspected further and make a startling discovery. The child was burning up and didn't respond to any attempt at waking up. Furthermore, a strange dark substance released from his pores.
"The boy doesn't look well." The father noticed that the child found in the snow was unconscious and unwell. "Let's get him to a healer."
"No." The third figure pocketed the paper and lifted the child in their arms. "I will look after him. I have plenty of supplies at my home and friends in both the Potions and Healing covens."
"You have to admit, the child is impressive. Survived in this weather for hours without help; he's not conscious but he's using magic. Have you ever heard of a witch or demon like him" The daughter saw the child had his hands shackled. "What was you name again?"
The figure removed their hood, showing middle-aged person with brown skin, mint-green hair, and green eyes. "Raine Whispers." Raine looked down at the child fighting for his life. "Don't worry, I'll get you to safety."
