Chapter 56-Sleep...
Silence, silence remained as Xiao soaked in the words of Yun Yurou. The words traveled deep into Xiao's heart as memories of a similar older Yun Yurou's promise came to his mind. For a second, Xiao felt his heart skip a beat, but he quickly shook his head to get rid of the feeling. As he turned his head aside unwilling to look at Yun Yurou.
Seeing it, Yun Yurou smiled happily. For some reason, these words were beaming deep within her soul, quivering to be said out loud. Meanwhile, Xiao was sighing deep within his heart. From all that he saw till now, he could understand that Yun Yuoru would not give up. In the past, he could keep saying that she was just young and that it would fade with time, but that's no longer possible.
Never underestimate the burning feelings of a Phoenix.
These are the words that are known everywhere. A phoenix, the beings of purity, grace, and laws, would be the most terrifying when they battle for the one they love. And it would be better to never mess with a phoenix that's in love. Once they were set on something, they would not give up till death.
Xiao could see that Yun Yurou was set on him, and making her forget him was next to impossible. Truthfully, Xiao has no idea how he would deal with it. It's not like he's some expert on dealing with matters of the heart.
'Sigh... let it be like this for now...'
In the end, Xiao decided to let fate take its course. Right now, Xiao already has a fiancée, and in no way was he going to cheat on her. And he has no desire to make anything hard for Li Lan. Even though Xiao never had a romantic relationship, he did have his own fair share of dealings with women.
Back then, he walked the demonic path. The women who walked the same path weren't exactly all that pure. Back then, he too was a young man in his teens; hence he did have some 'rendezvous' back then, but nothing at all was serious. Though that ended up being stopped after Yun Yurou had entered his life.
Shaking his past memories of Yun Yurou, Xiao focused on the problem at hand. From what he could gather, it seems that he, along with Yun Yurou, was brought to the Beastial Era, an Era where several divine beasts reigned supreme. It was a long-forgotten Era that had its glories lost within the sands of time, an Era of rise and fall.
In fact, Xiao didn't know much about it. All he had was just bits and pieces that he had heard along his journey, but he knew of the key part of the Beastial Era. It was the era that marked the birth of humans. Humans didn't exist since the beginning of creation; no, they were born at the end of the Beastial Era.
In fact, not all creatures existed since the beginning; some were just brought into existence, and humans were birthed during the Beastial Era. But the problem was that they were scorned. Unlike all other beasts, species, or monsters, they didn't have any specialty, no bloodline, no special talents, no claws, or heaven emblems, nothing.
They were given no specialty, hence they faced a lot of scorn and disdain. In fact, they had to face a large amount of oppression. But what others didn't know was that they were surpassing monsters far beyond their imagination. It was true that humans didn't have any specialty, but it also meant that they could be it all.
So they didn't have a bloodline? No problem! Just kill the dragon and take the bloodline for themselves! They didn't have power-crazy speed? No problem! Hunt and kill the legendary griffins and take their wings for themselves! Didn't have an affinity? Again, no problem! Kill the legendary Qilin and take its power of lighting and use it!
All the beings that looked down on the humans later trembled in fear. Humans, since they didn't have anything special, just took the specialty of others and outdid the rest on it. Soon, they became powerful enough to threaten their masters. In the end, a huge war broke out on its ending, and the rest of history is unknown to all, lost within the depths of time.
All that everyone knows is that humans won, but it was at the cost of losing a huge chunk of their heritage. Their secret to rip out the talent of others for themselves perished, but thankfully humans had already taken a huge step forward, and their foundation was rock solid. They were recognized by the Heavenly Dao as their prestige was set.
From then on, humans only flourished. But right now the situations not the same; humans are looked down upon, and they have only begun their rise to power. But before Xiao could continue his thought, he sent a shout towards Yun Yurou.
"Please! Can you stop that!"
Xiao spoke so that he could get peace of mind from Yun Yurou's poking. As he kept thinking, Yun Yurou would playfully poke his cheeks, desiring a reaction from him, and it was truly getting annoying. If possible, he would push her away. Alas, he couldn't! Yun Yurou's cultivation was much higher than his, but even then he could bring himself to be harsh to Yun Yurou.
He was a softie when it came to his people.
"Nope, I like it!"
Yun Yurou said with an enchanting smile. Her current smile with her looks was truly deadly. She was just like a little fairy that took one's breath away. The more one would look at her, the more one would be drawn towards her. In the end, he could only shake his head at her antics. Somehow it reminded him of the past, where he spends his time with her.
"So, what do you think about this, Yurou?"
Hearing Xiao's question, Yun Yurou remained silent as she focused on her thoughts. A few seconds later, she parted her lips as she spoke.
"Truthfully, I am still in shock at what happened. One moment I thought I would lose you, and the next I was like this. And now here I am hearing about the Beastial Era. It's truthfully too surprising..."
Xiao didn't reply to her as he nodded his head at her. After all, Yun Yurou hadn't gone through much in her life, and her experiences are small. In the end, Xiao furrowed his brows as his thoughts turned serene. Suddenly his eyelids felt heavy, and he slowly fell into sleep. Xiao might have not felt it due to all the rush, but he was truly mentally tired.
Of course, at a higher cultivation level, sleep becomes redundant, but it's different if one drains one's entire mental and soul energy. Even a being of unfathomable cultivation would need rest. Meanwhile, Yun Yurou's eyes turned gentle as she looked at the sleeping figure of Xiao.
She moved his body gently as she made sure that he slept in a relaxing position. Done with it, she sneakily hugged him as she kept her head on his shoulder as she relished in Xiao's warm body, taking his scent in. Her eyes turned blurry as she too fell asleep; she too was tired.
