Chapter 263. There's a freak breezing through the Sword Conclave Mountain 5
[ Academy-wide announcement.
Congratulations to first-year student Kailen Darkhaven for completing the berserk mission posted by Professor Ross 400 years ago.
The talent-enhancing elixir he made not only healed Arnold, his son's, destroyed universe energy pathways, the elixir also helped him to break through smoothly to the galactic level.
As a result of this achievement, he has received 12,000 student credits. ]
The announcement reverberated far and wide throughout the academy.
Several individuals couldn't believe their eyes.
The guy had really completed the berserk mission?
Just how was this possible?
The alchemy department especially had fallen into a palpable, suffocating silence.
In a large lecture hall boasting flamboyance, about the size of a stadium, the head of the alchemy department, Professor Aurelius Zaynar, stood completely silent with a small smile tugging at the edge of his lips, at the announcement that had undoubtedly interrupted his lecture.
Staring at him currently were several thousands of rank-2 alchemist students, each one of them various experts in the field of alchemy.
They were proud geniuses, some of whom had attempted to complete the berserk mission during their hot-headed years after enrolling in the academy.
However, reality had taught them all a hard lesson.
The Seragun Planes was a death zone.
The fact that they returned from that place alive had been a testament to their decision to flee the moment they appeared there.
Also, had they been able to locate the Solar Achelum Herb and return to the academy with it, the mission may still have proved impossible.
Why? Because the herb would only be effective with an extremely high purity level—above 90—for the alchemical product it would be used to manufacture.
A purity level most of them did not have and could only hope to perhaps someday attain in the far future.
After all, a 90 and above purity level was the stuff of famed alchemists across the empire and beyond.
It took years, centuries, sometimes even thousands of years of experience, skill, and comprehension of the fundamentals of alchemy to get there.
This was why the mission posted by Professor Ross had been deemed a berserk mission.
It was an impossible one.
Anyone who took on a berserk mission was branded a delusional bigot—someone who overestimated themselves.
That's how they had all viewed Kailen Darkhaven for a while now, inasmuch as he had made an alchemical product with a 98 percent purity level and met one of the requirements for completing the mission—simply because never in their wildest imaginations would they have thought he would find the Solar Achelum Herb in that dangerous hell of a land.
Their initial thoughts about his return had been that he gave up on the mission and fled the Seragun Plane, just like they had.
But reality had proved them otherwise.
How was this possible?
How had he done it?
Was this guy some old monster disguising himself as a young fellow?
Even if he had stumbled upon some ancient inheritance, this shouldn't have been possible.
So how?
Their thoughts reeled, thinking of different situations that could allow someone at his level to complete this mission.
Yet…
There should have been only one conclusion—it was impossible.
Yet reality had proved differently.
Kailen Darkhaven had shattered their opinions.
"So this is the guy the sect master wants us to kill? How narrow-minded."
A male figure from the witch race, with black hair and deep unsettling eyes, sighed, muttering inwardly.
He was one of the senior-year students—Pan Halfoy, a genius alchemist and a member of the Arcane Society, part of the Arcane Empowerment Sect.
He saw the decision of the hot-blooded sect leader to get rid of this person who'd undoubtedly become a powerhouse in the universe one day as very unwise.
"Screw the sect. I have to get close to this guy, even if it means renouncing my allegiance to the sect."
He made his decision quietly.
Several others had similar thoughts—thinking of ways to befriend this future powerhouse.
Whether or not he was a seventeen-year-old or a first-year student didn't matter to them.
Moreover, that only spoke volumes of his potential.
How many of them had been able to accomplish such feats when they were first years, or even at his age?
None of the genius alchemists who carved incredulous feats for themselves during their time in the academy and even across the sea of stars had been able to accomplish the feats of this monster during their time in the academy.
Some people were only worth befriending.
Some in the lecture hall who thought otherwise, however, and were starting to harbor thoughts of getting rid of him because they deemed him some sort of competition and threat, silently gave up on that idea.
The way the dean of the alchemy department was laughing meant that he had taken an interest in this kid.
Even if he didn't take in Kailen Darkhaven as his disciple, they wouldn't be foolish enough to test the waters.
There were others, however, who had never been more certain to nip him in the bud.
As cliché as it seems, people would always be people.
Jealousy and malice would forever remain traits of sentient lifeforms after all.
The stifling silence in the room was broken by the professor, whose smile attempted to tear his face apart.
"A monster has appeared in the alchemy department, don't you think? Class dismissed."
His voice was full of glee as he spoke.
With that, he disappeared from the lecture hall, leaving the students to their thoughts.
Aurelius had to visit the former dean of the academy, Ross, to congratulate his old friend on the good news.
Only he knew how much the misfortune of his friend's son had broken Ross—so much so that he even stepped down from the position of dean of the academy, a position that even the Royal Family had to give absolute face to.
One thing was certain though—
A storm of change was starting to brew in the academy, and Kailen Darkhaven was at the center of it.
