Chapter 255. Ranking battle 2.
Kailen and Esimo's ranking battle drew a lot of attention.
In the span of a few moments, the news had spread to several first years and even some seniors lazing around in the academy.
Many flooded the ranking arena to watch the match.
Also, there were several matches happening in the ranking arenas, so there were already a lot of people around .
When Kailen and Esimo made an appearance, many assumed what was gonna happen and word spread around quickly about their match .
Actually, some assumed it was a match between Kailen and Everlong, as she was also with them.
Under their gazes, Kailen and Esimo walked towards one of the arenas, confirming the thoughts of those who assumed the first ranked and the second ranked of the first years were gonna duke it out.
The moment Kailen and Esimo's figures touched the arena, some sort of phenomenon occurred.
It was like their bodies were separated from their consciousness into a different space.
This was definitely some use of the law of space that separated their bodies into a different dimension, so that they could only battle with their consciousness.
Let's say it was like virtual reality, happening in real life.
Kailen deduced that the academy did this to prevent mortalities from happening during the ranking battles.
After all, it was just battles to claim rankings of highly ranked students, nothing more, nothing less.
If people wanted to kill one another, there were life and death arenas for that.
The duo, with their consciousness, appeared on a large ocean teeming with ginormous, tempestuous waves.
The roars of diabolic beasts looming beneath the ocean resounded in their ears.
"This is very lifelike."
Kailen could not help but mutter.
This was like being in the virtual universe.
Kailen's gaze snapped sharply towards Esimo who stood a few distances away from him.
The guy looked completely different from before.
He didn't look socially awkward or timid.
He looked extremely confident, his eyes pulsing with palpable battle intent.
"Permit me to go all out. I know you are very strong after all."
The moment Esimo spoke, Kailen chuckled inwardly. This guy was really weird. A few minutes ago he couldn't even talk to him, but now, under the gazes of thousands of students and even some curious instructors, he was talking?
Anyway, Kailen brushed those thoughts away.
If this guy was gonna go all out, he couldn't also underestimate his opponent.
The guy had a tier two elemental mirroring, which meant that Esimo's elemental energies could boost his battle prowess to higher heights.
Quickly, Kailen activated his shadow armored form.
He adjusted the shadow armor form for it to assume the same height of the towering Titan before him.
Under the gazes of several students, the duo had an unspoken agreement.
For the first few exchanges, no one would draw a weapon.
Azure flames and lightning flickered around Kailen's form.
Esimo's form was coated with some ice armor.
Searing orange flames and lightning danced around his figure.
Suddenly,
They moved.
Like phantoms.
Their speed, extremely profound, the air bending and shattering in their wake.
Then, under the gazes of the onlookers, who were shocked about whether or not a rank 1 and a rank 2 beginner stage Ascendant level lifeform could demonstrate this level of speed, they clashed.
Booooooooooommm!
Ripples spread outwards from their clash.
Then another clash.
Their arms met several hundreds of times in the span of a few moments, cataclysmic booms resounding with each clash.
Their figures moved above the ocean like streaks of black and orange phantoms, clashing over and over again.
One of the senior year students, a second year's eyes narrowed in shock, having come to a sudden realization.
"Kailen Darkhaven is holding back."
A young lady at his side, his closest friend and girlfriend Anaya, a witch, knew that Lian Yu was not one to joke about these kinds of things. He was a genius of his own right. Plus, his judgement was really sound.
"Interesting." A glint of battle intent flashed through his eyes as his gaze refocused on the battle.
Anaya knew that look. This guy had taken a liking to Kailen Darkhaven.
After several relentless clashes, Esimo realized he was being pushed back.
Also, a sudden realization dawned on him when he saw the crazed look in the eyes of his opponent.
He knew that look too well. The guy was a battle maniac. Also, he studied Kailen's breathing and attack patterns — they were precise, unpredictable, strangely similar to his own, and deadly.
Is he predicting my attacks and copying my battle style?
He found it absurd. Yet, it was happening.
Just who was this guy? How could such a monster appear amongst the human race?
What kind of gruesome battles had this guy fought to hone his battle instincts to this level?
Plus, he had the sudden feeling that the guy was holding back.
Images of the entrance exams flashed in his eyes as he recalled the fight between Kailen and the rank 5 beginner stage Ascendant level opponents, and how he crushed them effortlessly.
"He's holding back so that he can enjoy the battle with me? While I'm using all of my physical strength? I'm a Titan, yet I'm being bested in my area of expertise?"
Esimo thought with inward incredulity, as he launched a ferocious kick towards Kailen's jaw.
Kailen didn't even block the attack.
There was no need to.
He may have been holding back, however his defenses were not.
The attack whistled through the air with lethal ferocity, landing on his jaw.
Claaaaaannnnnnnggggg.
Kailen stood firm, calm, and steady.
Esimo felt painful vibrations spreading through his legs as he recovered them quickly.
Managing to separate himself from Kailen, he decided to take the battle to another level.
No doubt, he knew he was gonna lose.
If at first, he had thought that because he had not used all his trump cards in the entrance exams there was a chance he could rival his opponent or defeat him, now reality had slapped him in the face.
He couldn't win. Heck, even his defenses were like pieces of paper before his opponent.
From their brief exchange, he had realized that Kailen Darkhaven was a monster who could have ended the battle the moment it began.
Esimo had defeated higher ranked opponents in the past who had weak reflexes and battle instincts.
Yet, Kailen was not only of a lower sub rank, he had a tier one elemental mirroring, way inferior to Esimo's elemental mirroring.
Yet the guy was more powerful than him in every area. He had a weird battle style that could copy the battle style of his opponents and predict their attacks, he had this monstrous shadow affinity that made his defenses extremely monstrous.
And he was a battle maniac.
Also, thanks to the use of his elemental mirroring, the kind of universe energy he saw radiating from the guy was... limitless? Were there really beings who were not at the universe level, yet had endless reserves of universe energy?
This guy... where did he come out of?
Esimo knew he'd be defeated in the end, but strangely, his eyes were burning with desire for battle. Even if he had to lose, he had to enjoy this battle, right?
Never had he been this eager to fight someone.
Everlong saw the look in his eyes from the bleachers.
"I know that look," she said, with a knowing smile tugging at the edge of her lips.
