Chapter 176: Dear Me
"…All I need from you… is to help me kill Alustus."
Adam's voice was steady, cold and unshaken when he said this.
He was dead serious on these orders.
"Lure him in. Lead him on while you pretend to heal him. And when the moment's right… drive this blade into his back, directly into his heart."
"Hehehe, even better I think I finally figured out how his damn internal barrier works."
Adam muttered, eyes narrowing behind his bone mask.
"It is like he is redirecting the vectors of my attacks, then splitting the force, scattering it so it never hits evenly."
He clicked his tongue, his vision sharpening, as the memory of his previous fight flash in his mind.
The words hit like a thunderclap.
"Man... at first, when my eyes saw through him, I didn't know what the hell I was looking at."
Adam muttered to himself, voice low but audible.
"It looked wrong. I mean, on the outside? Yeah, sure, he looks normal. Muscles, bones, skin. But inside...
He paused, narrowing his gaze, tone shifting into curiosity wrapped in unease.
"The bastard literally had no organs. Literally none. Just a skeletal frame, and a single inhumane looking heart floating in his body, alongside his brain, and everything else is just water like blood that fill's his interior shape."
He exhaled slowly, piecing it together aloud.
"At first, I thought maybe it was some kind of illusion. Some advanced regeneration, maybe. But then I started paying attention to how my attacks were reacting."
"Every time I landed a blow on that asshole, it never hit evenly. It was like the force just… slipped off. Or got swallowed whole."
Adam clicked his tongue, almost admiring it.
"It is not just defense on his part, rather his internal barrier is rather redirection. The impact hits him, yeah, but instead of taking the brunt, it spreads out. Like dropping a stone in a tub of water, it ripples shoot outward, and the energy disperses."
"But in his case... it doesn't just disappear. It keeps moving through him. Constantly. Like his whole body is vibrating on the inside, absorbing the shock and swirling it around. Just building up pressure."
He let out a small laugh, dark and amused.
"And when he is ready... he throws it back. More refined and multiplied. The kinetic force he gets hit with? He stores it, twists it in any part of his body, and launches it back two, three, maybe even four times harder depending on how much kenetic energy he ha save."
Adam's fingers curled into a fist as the truth settled in his chest.
"So calling it a barrier is too primitive."
Adam muttered, almost laughing to himself as the pieces clicked together.
"This asshole is basically a living pressure chamber. The longer you fight him, the more you're feeding him power. You're helping him win in way."
His chuckle grew deeper, sharper, half out of amusement, half out of frustration.
"Still, no ability is perfect. Everything needs a source, some kind of fuel. And the more you drain that source...
His smile widened under the bone mask.
"...The weaker the effect becomes."
He took a step forward, musing aloud like a mad scientist mid-dissection.
"I also noticed something else. Even though it's passive, that pressure chamber thing? It works a lot better when he is aware of the incoming attack."
"When he knows it's coming, it activates at full efficiency. But if he is caught off guard, if he doesn't see it or doesn't expect it, there is a delay. The reaction time lags basically."
He cracked his neck, letting the implications roll around his mind.
"Unconscious attacks, ambush strikes, they can slip through. With enough force, you can disrupt the flow entirely and bypass the barrier. But... it is hard. His entire body is made of mostly blood and vibration. No organs, no fat to cushion anything. Just that dense skeleton, that heart, and liquid mass."
Adam let out a slow breath, thinking aloud again.
"For a martial artist or someone who relies on raw CQC? He is a nightmare to deal with. Physical strikes just help him build more energy. He doesn't block them, he uses them. So unless you're prepared with something disruptive, something that twists the rules."
His voice turned low, predatory.
"You're just throwing fuel into the fire."
"Still though, that's why I have isn't that right Empussa, your going to be the key to my victory. With the weapon I have plan, a suprise attack from you who he trust is bond to get through, especially with his weaken state."
Empussa's eyes flew wide open. She looked up at him in disbelief, her voice barely more than a whisper.
"Y-You want me to… stab my husband?"
"N-No way… I—I can't do something so… so despicable…
Empussa's voice cracked as the words left her mouth. Her knees buckled slightly, red skin trembling with fear.
She even contemplate if all these sudden events where nothing more than a nightmare.
A lie she tells herself to save herself.
But deep down… she knew that was not the case.
Denying reality simply because she can't accept it was not going to make things any better.
She had no choice in the matter.
Muchless any power, freedom, or future anymore, given she forfeit her True Name to this monster.
Adam on the other hand didn't even flinch at her words.
Rather his voice was steady, as it was cold.
"Then die."
He said those words casually and simply, and just long enough for the meaning to settle in.
"Actually… even that is too generous. Given your abilities is too useful for you to carry them with you in death."
"But then and again, I don't need you to be conscious, muchless aware of anything really for you to be useful to me, Empussa."
Adam said in a calm voice, disturbingly so, he continued.
"I can just turn you into a puppet and call it day. Strip your mind bare. Erase your personality and overwrite it with one more… agreeable."
He flew closer to her, and lean in slightly, the pressure of his presence alone making her lungs tighten.
"And If your memories are gone, you're gone, it is no different from death at that point. Ultimately it is up to you though, so stop wasting me time, do you want to end up as puppet? Or do you want to live as my loyal servant. It don't mind either outcome to be hones, I still get what I want in the end."
The truth hurt more than anything had before.
But her will to survive burned hotter than guilt or shame.
Empussa dropped to her knees, bowing so low her forehead touched the ground.
"I am sorry...just... please, ease don't kill me. I'll do it. I'll betray him."
Behind his bone mask, Adam smiled to Empussa fixed attitude.
So after hearing this his own energy, and flesh began to coiled in his hand as he began crafting a weapon.
That weapon being a large dagger.
One forged from a blend of multiple monster DNA. Its edge was shaped from hardened werewolf claw-bone, while the hilt pulsed with energy-reactive muscle fiber.
But in reality It was more than a blade.
In actuality it was a conduit more than anything else.
It focus designed to amplify and refine power. By channeling your power through it interior, it would multiply its output, sharpen control, and extend range.
Even minor abilities, when cast through this weapon, could strike with unparalleled force and potency.
Adam then turned his gaze to her.
And asked.
"You're half Succubus. High-ranking, too, thanks to your mother's bloodline... So this should be relatively easy."
"Tell me...can you put people to sleep with your bloodline abilities?"
Empussa nodded, hesitant but honest.
"Yes... The weaker they are, the easier it is. But even stronger targets, if I touch them, I can force a dream into their mind. It's like injecting my will into their subconscious, tricking their body into thinking it's already asleep."
She paused, then added more quietly.
"I can craft the dream myself. Shape it. It doesn't always work on those stronger than me... but if they're caught off guard, or weakened... Then with the power of Dark Healing I could hit them with a make belief fantasy."
Adam tilted his head slightly, intrigued, it would seem her Dark healing had a variety of support base capabilities.
"So with direct contact… you could override someone's mind in that way too eh? Slip them into a sleep they can't wake from, as you power take affect slowly."
"Yes."
She responded quietly.
"But it has to be fast...and clean. And the dream must be strong enough to hold them."
Adam looked down at the dagger, then back at her.
"Good. Then it's time we test how useful you really are... Take this, you know what to do."
She close her eyes, she already accepted her fate.
On the other hand, Adam began to think to himself.
"Now, I just need to inform my past self, how he is pulling this off, and what to do so we can finally beat him, the question is though how can I do that without Alustus noticing."
And the moment Adam said that the system actually gave him a good means by which he can accomplish his goal.
『Master if you want I can send a message directly to his System, informing him of your plan to defeat him』
"Wait you can do stuff like that as well?"
『Yes』
