Chapter 170: Adam vs Alustus VI
『Master...RUNNN!! Base on the information in the Archive...that object is currently ranked as an Anti-World Weapon』
"Anti-World Weapon? Can't say I've heard of them before."
Adam commented his thoughts outwards, still he remained serious, this guy was way more tougher than he gave credit for.
Meanwhile the System responded.
『Anti-World Weapons were made and used by the Monster Kings of old. They are said to be weapons of great power, some strong enough to even seriously hurt or wound a Monster King』
"Why the fuck does he even have this?"
『Most likely through his System no doubt』
"So there is more than one?"
Adam asked, his tone cautious.
『Yes, there are』
The System replied.
『According to the Archive, a total of 33 Anti-World Weapons exist. However, I don't have detailed data on what most of them actually do』
『That said, I can identify one if it is presented to me』
"I see... Shit."
Adam didn't dare get any closer, something about that strange, triangular object in Alustus's hand screamed danger.
He stayed back, wary, but even then… it was already too late.
Alustus raised the black-and-red triangle high into the air. Instantly, a menacing aura radiated from it, one that bent the air and twisted the sky.
It was like he had just turned a key in the lock of reality itself.
Adam's gaze snapped upward as a presence—massive, ancient, and suffocating—descended from the heavens.
Above the thick mists and green clouds, far beyond the world barrier, something stirred in the green abyss of the sky.
Then he saw it.
His eyes widened in horror.
An eye the size of a moon blinked into existence, parting the clouds of the Monster World itself.
It was inhuman and monstrous. Its sclera was a sickly violet, and in its center, a blood-red eldritch pupil pulsed with sentient malice.
It was like looking into the abyss, and having it look back.
And then came the tentacles.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Millions.
Some as thin as hair, others larger than entire planets, descended through space at terrifying speed, plummeting like divine spears.
From Heaven to Earth.
Alustus stood calmly, within a shimmering barrier and smirked, the key gave him energy like never before.
To the point of using that energy to create a nigh indestructible water barrier that could redirect all external forces outwards from it.
Protecting him from the horrors to come.
"Let's see how you deal with one of these you bastard."
Adam's instincts screamed.
He tried to teleport, using Memory Point.
But the System's voice interrupted, with an urgent and cold message.
『Master, all your Lore Abilities have been shut off by a stronger Lore Ability』
"What?! HOW?!"
His voice cracked with panic.
From below, Alustus chuckled.
"Not so tough without your teleportation, huh? Heh... I love to see it."
He pointed to the sky, to the abyssal eye and its descending horrors.
"There is a reason every monster fears these things... Or as we all known them by Reality Eaters. They don't just kill you, they feed on you slowly. Once their gaze is on you, they can shut down your powers, your Lore ability, your magic, even your natural born powers."
His smile widened, teeth bared.
"The closer they get, the worse the effects of their power gets. That is how they hunt you know. They nullify what makes you strong, then they grab you and drag you past the world barrier. And once you're there... they feast on you."
He laughed viciously.
"There is no escaping this you bastard. You're finished."
Adam was speechless.
His Lore Abilities were gone, his heat vision, his black wing, they had all vanished. His natural abilities remained, but something fundamental had been severed.
Desperate, he tried to cast a spell, warping space to create an escape portal...but it failed. The magic wouldn't respond.
He could still feel the Astrum within his body, but it was like something had put up a wall between him and it; like reality itself refused to let him cast.
So he shifted strategies, using the Sidhe Water Affinity to open a water portal.
He tore open space by making it water, and tried to fly through.
But he couldn't.
His natural ability still activated, but its purpose was blocked. The world rejected its function, like the ability had been robbed of meaning.
Even his vast Monster Energy fought back against the suppression, yet something above, something far stronger, kept it pinned. Its power dwarfed even his infinite reserves.
He was trapped.
Above, heat surged, and pressure built.
The massive tentacles fell from beyond neon green clouds toward him, dragging their own gravitational fields, pulling everything upward with irresistible force.
"Fuuuuuck…
Adam cursed, helpless, his body trembling as the full weight of what was coming slammed into him from above.
This was the end, and he knew it.
"Don't tell me this is... another dead ENNNDDD!!..
And just as the largest tentacle descended, burning the sky with its arrival.
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
"Ha?!"
Adam's eyes widened in disbelief.
The world around him, the clouds, the crashing ocean, even the colossal tentacle mid-fall had all come to a sudden, absolute halt.
Time itself had stopped.
"What sorcery is this?"
Alustus muttered as he also looks around.
But his attention soon shifted one he realizes it.
Lifting his hand to his face.
He soon realize that the key he had been holding up, was gone.
Completely vanished as if somebody grabbed it from his hand.
But at the same time his attention shifted to side of him.
A sharp, rhythmic sound echoed across the paused world.
Clack! Clack! Clack!
The sound of wooden getas striking stone could be heard as it approaches closer to the two.
Then right after a woman's voice echoed into the distance.
"You've got a pretty interesting little weapon here, small fairy man."
Alustus's eye twitched.
"Small fairy man? Woman, do you have any idea who I a...
But before he finish he stopped mid-sentence. His breath caught in his throat, as his eyes widen in suprise at the sight of the woman before him.
He recognized her.
"...M-Minerva."
Hearing her name been called she looked infront of her, and gave the man a sly smile.
"Hm? So you do know of me. That's cute... Funny though...I have no damn clue what kind of monster you are."
"However...
She sniffed the air, amused as she commented.
"Peak A-Rank… ohhh, I smell it now. A pureblood. Child of the Force lineage. No wonder my little man's having trouble with you hehehe."
Adam opened his mouth.
"Big si...
But she cut's him off.
"No need to talk, Adam. I told you to kill the leader, but I didn't expect him to be holding this kind of thing."
She turned her gaze to Alustus, eyes sharp.
"Tell me, fairy thing, who gave this to you?"
Alustus wasn't shocked... rather he was mesmerized.
The woman of his dreams was standing right in front of him, radiant and terrifying.
"Lady Minerva… it's an honor to finally meet you."
He said without shame, and almost in awe.
Minerva raised a brow at the sight of this.
"The fuck is wrong with you? Just answer the question."
Alustus swallowed.
"Sure… I borrowed it from my first wife. It's her clan's greatest weapon you see."
Minerva blinked slowly, then chuckled.
"...Hahaha, I was working on it."
He responded playfully, and she commented.
"Your wife, huh?"
Minerva tapped her chin, thinking.
"Hmm… the one Adam killed? Then you must be talking about the Shoggoth woman. Rare to find one of her kind living this deep in the Abyssal Sea."
She gave a small sigh.
"Either way, Shoggoths are a pain to kill completely. Being from the Line of the Body makes her one of the toughest monster species, especially for a B-Rank race."
Without much thought, Minerva casually tucked the Anti-World Weapon into her boob space, muttering.
"Yeah, no... A weakling like you shouldn't be carrying something this dangerous. I'll be taking this back with me."
Then her voice sharpened as she turned to Adam.
"Oi, Adam."
"Yes, big sis?"
He looked over, a bit tense, wondering what she was about to ask.
Minerva gave him a sly smile, and said.
"Hurry up and kill this bastard, will you? Stop holding back."
Adam grinned beneath his helm.
"Haha… I was working on it."
Minerva rolled her eyes.
"You've got more than enough power to end him. Just finish it already."
She pointed toward Alustus, her tone turning serious.
"He is tough, yeah...but that's the Line of Force for you. They are known for their insane defense abilities, and reality-bending bullshit. But all those big attacks? They're burning through his reserves. Keep the pressure on. Diminish his energy and that god-tier defense will crash like a meteor."
Adam nodded, shortly after replied.
"Got it… Just wait for me, okay? It's already embarrassing enough that you had to step in."
Minerva smirked at Adam, his pride wounded because of this.
Still he cheers him up by saying.
"A Reality Eater is a bit much for your weak ass to handle. But still, you're an Apostle of Echidna...the youngest and weakest so far, but an Apostle nonetheless. But even an Senior Apostle would struggle against something like that boy, that thing is way beyond your pay grade."
Minerva folded her arms, her eyes looking upwards at the collosal monstrosity.
"Besides, I can't let Echidna's spawn die like this. She would kill me otherwise, or try to atleast. Even weakened, I am still no match for her if she went back to her old self."
Adam glanced at her, mind turning over her words.
"Apostle"
He question as began to ponder.
'That means I follow her, right? Is that… good or bad?'
Minerva chuckled, clearly reading his thoughts.
"Don't overthink it, brat. I'll explain later. It's not official yet. You still have to take her trials. But as her firstborn, that makes you a True Son of Desire."
She smirked.
"Echidna's a variant Monster Lord ya see, made using the Monster King of Desire's gene, so she is an outlier, even among us Thirteen Crowns."
Her eyes glinted playfully.
"I can't wait to see how strong you'll be once you hit your sixth… Like Nyx, my own Apostle."
Before Adam could respond, Alustus's voice cut in, confused and irritated.
"Wait... this brat is an Apostle?"
Minerva raised a brow.
"Yeah... What of it, weakling?"
Alustus twitched.
"Weakling!?"
He growled, clearly insulted.
"I'm not weak. In fact, I would make a better mate than this brat, wouldn't I?"
He tried to smile, to appeal to her, but Minerva's expression went cold. Her smile vanished as her eyes locked onto him with pure disdain.
"A better mate?"
She repeated softly.
Then, her voice sharpened like a blade.
"When did the bacteria of this world start speaking so boldly?"
Alustus instinctively stepped back.
"You're not even a speck compared to Adam."
She continued.
"The one I've chosen, groomed for years, won't lose to something as low as a germ."
The words hit Alustus hard. He yearned for Minerva, craved her. But her dismissal cut deeper than any blade. His humiliation turned to fury.
"You cocky woman."
He snarled.
"Fine... I don't need you to want me. I'll make you mine. You'll regret turning me down, I'll show you my strength by killing your mate!"
Minerva paused, folded her arms, and tilted her head.
"You've got a big mouth for someone within killing range, maggot."
She laughed softly.
"How bold. I like it...still...
She turned and fly toward Adam, who hovered in the air beside her, small compared to her towering presence. She looked down at him and smiled.
"You're not going to lose, are you?"
She asked, her voice very low but serious at the same time.
"I'm just stating facts here Adam, since instate it you have to confirm it without fail."
She turned to Alustus again.
"Adam, why don't you offer me his head as a gift? I could make a keychain out of his skull."
Adam chuckled.
"Of course Minerva."
"Good."
Minerva brushed past him.
"I'm expecting this to be the final round, brat. Don't disappoint me."
Then she stopped, looking up toward the frozen, looming horror that was the Reality Eater.
"Hmph. Oversized abomination. The dream realm could use a new nightmare."
Her eyes began to glow with a brilliant violet light.
In that instant, the Reality Eater began to fade, piece by piece, its entire existence being overwritten, and converted.
Minerva was rewriting its reality, turning it into a dream.
Adam stared in awe, as he said with a shaky voice.
"That's… kind of like what Nyx did back then."
A second later, Minerva's form dissolved into purple mist, merging with the surrounding miasma, vanishing to watch the final round unfold from somewhere safe.
