Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Untitled
Chapter 68: Untitled
In Sara's continued narration, the Third Kazekage was ultimately defeated and killed by the combined efforts of Sasori and Kakashi.
The Third Kazekage's body was quietly taken away by Sasori. The Dragon Vein entrance within Rouran was forcibly destroyed by the Sand ninja who witnessed the Third Kazekage's death. The entire country was utterly devastated by the rampaging Dragon Vein energy, the ancient city turning into nothingness in an instant.
Except for the citizens hiding underground, the Sand ninja, the Queen of Rouran, and all the ninja on the surface died in the great explosion. Kakashi and Mei Terumi were severely injured and on the brink of death when they returned to the reserve room, where they were treated by Sara. During this process, Sara's affection for Kakashi grew stronger. Furthermore, because the remaining Rouran citizens were saved by this silver-haired youth, they spontaneously supported him to become their Prince.
Sara didn't continue narrating what happened next, because she couldn't stop herself from crying as she spoke.
Bound by the deceased citizens, all her following days were spent atoning to the living, feeling ashamed before her mother and the many citizens for not having protected the Dragon Vein.
The root of all this was her excessive trust in the Sand ninja and her blind faith in her own abilities.
Kakashi, who had anticipated the Queen of Rouran would break down and cry, waited for a while before finally placing his hand on her red hair.
Her way of crying was just like Mei Terumi's.
Sara, having suppressed her emotions for too long and needing an outlet, wasn't satisfied with such a light touch of comfort. Driven by her emotions, she threw herself into the youth's embrace, looked up, and met his lips.
A few minutes later, Kakashi, his mouth full of blood, pushed the Queen of Rouran away. He wasn't angered by this retaliatory kiss but continued to patiently comfort her until Sara's emotions subsided.
"Feeling better?"
"Sorry."
Wiping the blood from the corner of Kakashi's mouth, Sara leaned against his chest for a long time before standing up again and returning to her seat. At this moment, she had recovered into the strong Queen of Rouran.
The time for this queen to relax had passed. The resentment and pressure accumulated over these three years without help were vented. Kakashi being alive was already the best news. Even if it was the him from the past, he could still bring hope to this desperate country.
She couldn't ask for too much.
"Will you leave?"
"Leave?"
"Meaning, return to the past."
Mei Terumi, eavesdropping outside the door, felt her heart tighten. The question she didn't dare to ask had been easily voiced by Sara. How could this woman be so bold? The Mizukage held her breath, afraid of missing a single word. The surrounding civilians and Kirigakure ninja had been dismissed by her, so she was now unceremoniously leaning against the door, her ear pressed tightly against it.
"Maybe."
"An ambiguous answer. My Lord Husband, you really do want to go back, don't you?"
Calling him by that intimate term again without any reservation, Sara had already prepared for the worst.
"Mm."
Despair after being given hope is the most terrifying. It was better to state his intentions early; otherwise, the pain and despair of parting would be even greater.
An old pendulum clock on the wall ticked away, "da, da, da." In this silence, one person's thoughts determined the future of many.
".....As long as... it is my Lord Husband's thought... I accept."
With sobs and clear tears, Sara didn't struggle with her thoughts anymore. She had no right to ask the youth, who had already given so much once, to sacrifice his future again for this ruined country and such a desperate self. This was also expected, a matter of course.
"Mei Terumi, stop eavesdropping. Come in."
Calling out the Mizukage who was listening outside, Mei Terumi opened the door and came in. The "Water" character hat was now gone from her head.
"Can't you stay here?"
"I can't."
"I've already lost you once. I don't want to lose you a second time. Sara, you think so too, right?"
Mei Terumi cleverly sought the Queen of Rouran's opinion, adding weight to her own plea.
Sara didn't answer, nor did she want to. Her gaze remained fixed on the youth before her, not wavering in the slightest.
"It's impossible for the past me to stay in this world. Returning is inevitable. There is a cause for every effect. History can be changed; I will change your destinies."
Gently shaking her head, Mei Terumi flipped her hand seals.
「Water Release: Mirror Reflection Jutsu!」
A flat mirror made of water rose from the ground, reflecting Kakashi's body. It slowly distorted, and scenes of battles from various countries appeared within it.
"The war is still ongoing. The civil unrest in the Land of Water didn't end after I became Mizukage. A large number of remaining rogue ninja are attempting to regain control by defeating me. The wars between the Land of Fire, the Land of Earth, even the Land of Lightning, and the Land of Water are also still continuing. I live under the threat of assassination every day. Sara's situation needs no further explanation. The next time I come to deliver supplies will be half a year later. In the meantime, who knows how many Rouran civilians and warriors will die of thirst and starvation."
"This is the destiny you want to change."
"Honestly, I don't believe you can change anything by returning to the past. None of this will change because of one person's actions. Peace is a distant dream."
"Even so, you still want to go back?"
After saying this, Mei Terumi's aura was imposing. She didn't use a pleading tone but used cruel words to force Kakashi to make a choice.
He listened to her questioning words. Against the brutal backdrop of war, the future had already become this grim.
But this couldn't be a reason to stop him from returning.
"You have indeed grown up, grown to the point of threatening me with other people's lives. Do you think I will change my mind because of what you've said?"
"Mei Terumi, or rather, the current you, do you still understand me?"
"No one understands you better than I do. Even Sara can only be considered your lover. I've never seen her as a competitor."
"Hmm?"
Kakashi looked at Sara, surprised to see her not refuting it.
"Then what if I still insist on leaving?"
The air gradually filled with a hint of gunpowder.
The Mizukage, who had reached the pinnacle of the ninja world, would not compromise. Sara also leaned towards Kakashi staying. This issue couldn't be resolved through words in a short time.
Trying her best to exert influence was Mei Terumi's original plan.
But now it seemed to have backfired.
Walking to Sara's side, Mei Terumi took a deep breath.
A showdown with the person before her.
"Take us with you."
"Or, defeat me, then kill me."
