Chapter 392: Chapter 391: "I Can Marry You"
Supporting the wizards who sought refuge under his umbrella wasn't a particularly big issue for Murphy, but he felt it was somewhat wasteful.
Moreover, despite Umbrella's vast scale, he worried that excessive monopolization would render the entire market stagnant.
He had already earned enough money through Umbrella and had no interest in becoming an economic dictator of an industry.
After all, what he sought wasn't money but the progress of productive forces driven by capital, which required the support of a vibrant market. Hence, he was more eager to see innovations that emerged beyond his contemplations.
The entrepreneurship support program was born out of this vision.
Murphy indeed put a lot of effort into this program from many aspects.
Having been isolated from the Muggle world for three hundred years, most wizards—especially pure-blood wizards with decent economic standing in the wizarding world—knew almost nothing about the Muggle world.
Even a ten-year-old child knew more about the rules of the Muggle world than they did, making it a pipe dream to think they could make a mark in the Muggle world with just a magic spell or a unique magical effect.
Even Muggle-born wizards, who had spent the majority of their lives in the wizarding world, had a basic understanding of Muggle society that remained at a childhood level. They were severely disconnected from Muggle society, making it difficult for them to adapt to its complex operating rules.
If they, with their magical products, naively entered Muggle society, they were likely to be exploited by clever Muggles, ending up with nothing left.
Therefore, they needed someone who truly understood the operation rules of the Muggle market to help them clarify their thoughts, find the right direction for their entrepreneurship, and also help them obtain legal Muggle identities, establish legal companies, comply with Muggle laws, etc.
Other issues such as funding, personnel, connections, etc., all required guidance to prevent wizards from facing severe setbacks.
And these were all areas where Murphy could offer assistance.
While providing various forms of help, Murphy, in fact, also controlled the industry rules and core resources of the entire magic-related market. This way, he could regulate the entire market, ensuring that all wizards wishing to venture into Muggle society were effectively supervised by him.
This was the integration of magical and Muggle societies under his leadership.
This beginning would allow the two societies to understand each other better in a gentler manner, explore and compromise with each other, and then merge as one.
This approach was the most harmless optimal path Murphy found that could benefit both sides.
For the sake of both societies, he truly exhausted himself.
I, Murphy, a saint!
The kind who deserves a monument.
"Pff, Mr. Murphy, do you think you're so great?" In the evening, Murphy and Sofia sat on the Terrace of Heaven, looking down at the brightly lit streets of the Holy City below.
"Not that great, just a tad more magnificent than you mere mortals," Murphy joked.
"In any case, I think this is also a good thing for the wizards of Arkaim. The wizards in this city are even more unfamiliar with the Muggle world. If they want to contact the outside world, they'll need even more help."
"Many of them might not be interested in earning Muggle money like the British wizards." The Empress said, "But, I'll announce your support plan."
"Why don't you go and announce it? You're the Shaman of the Protectorate, and making the announcement in my name would have the same effect."
"You've only been enthroned for a few years, and you're already slacking off?" Murphy teased.
"Hmph!" Sofia puffed her little nose, "You're making fun of me."
"A negligent ruler, and here I am, your Shaman of the Protectorate, not even beating you up for it."
"Pff." The Empress was amused by his joke. Only Murphy dared to joke with her like this.
After laughing for a while, Sofia sighed, "I used to think I couldn't let anyone take the position my mother passed down to me. Plus, I didn't know being an emperor was so tiring."
"How about I adopt a constitutional monarchy like the Muggles? Would you like to be the Prime Minister?"
"Or I could just abdicate in your favor."
Murphy tapped the Empress's forehead lightly with his knuckle, "What are you babbling about, silly? You're so young, why are you always thinking about abdicating? Besides, I'm not even from the Soviet Union, how could you abdicate to me?"
"I can marry you," said the Empress.
Murphy was startled and stared at Sofia, who said without blushing or skipping a beat, "There have been many precedents before, like Catherine the Great, who wasn't from the Soviet Union either but still became an empress."
"And you've saved Arkaim twice; you don't know how high your reputation is in Arkaim. They wouldn't oppose it."
"Stop, stop, are you serious?"
Sofia looked at him, her eyes, turned crimson after becoming a vampire, were enchantingly clear. She remained as straightforward and gentle as before.
"The narcolepsy hasn't shown signs of improvement. Arkaim doesn't need a sleeping emperor." The Empress said.
"Besides, compared to you, I'm still too immature. I believe you can lead Arkaim in a better direction."
"So, it's about responsibility," Murphy said.
Sofia's expression dodged slightly, "Not entirely."
Murphy smiled softly, reaching this point in the conversation was probably Sofia's limit.
He extended his hand, suddenly holding hers.
Her hand was slender and cold, small and soft, struggling in his palm for a moment before giving up resignedly.
"The Human Genome Project has been completed," Murphy said softly, "The wizarding gene map will also be completed soon. A cure for vampire symptoms might also be available soon."
A few days ago, Murphy had handed the Time Accelerator over to the Human Genome Project team, along with two prototypes of third-generation sequencing technology. They had achieved significant results recently, having completed the human and wizarding gene sequencing.
"Is that so?" The Empress was surprised, beginning to despise her life away from sunlight.
"It might take a little more time. After all, the genome is just the foundation. The corresponding proteins and traits still need to be identified. But by comparing Muggle and wizard genes, as well as wizard and vampire genes, we can still discover a lot."
"So, narcolepsy might not be an issue," Murphy said, "Even so, do you still want to marry me?"
Just moments ago, the Empress, who had appeared indifferent, blushed, her excuses blocked by Murphy. To say yes now meant admitting her feelings.
This made her somewhat shy and nervous.
But, she feared that if she denied it now, Murphy might take it as the truth.
The Empress was in a dilemma, but the warmth from Murphy's hand gave her a bit of courage. She opened her mouth, about to respond, when Murphy suddenly laughed.
"Alright, I'll stop teasing you."
"By the way, how does one propose in Arkaim? How much dowry is usually expected for marrying an empress?"
