Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 29: Chapter 29 Owl Shed

The four of them brought apple pie to the Owl Shed, where many owls were kept in cages; these were the property of Wizards, so they dared not disturb them, planning to experiment with the owls belonging to Hogwarts instead.

Soon, in the dim Owl Shed, they found a lone brown owl.

It was tilting its head, curiously looking at them, its plump, round face full of innocence and bewilderment.

"Hoo-hoo." It extended one leg towards them, expectantly flapping its wings, eager to try.

"...Is this not very good of us?" Howard looked at the cute owl, feeling a pang of guilt.

"I'll do it." James volunteered, tearing a piece from the apple pie.

"Come on, haven't you had dinner yet?" James grinned, enticing the owl.

It paused, its extended leg stopping in mid-air for a moment, then immediately retracted, and it extended its beak, snatching the pie in one bite.

"It worked!" James happily waved a hand.

The owl munched on the apple pie, quickly swallowing it, then extended its leg again.

"What does that mean?" Howard didn't understand. "It wants to deliver a letter after eating?"

"It extended a leg before we fed it," Gary analyzed. "After we gave it food, a subconscious thought should have formed in its mind. This time, it extended its leg to ask for more food."

"Oh, oh." Howard tore off another piece of pie and fed it to the owl.

Lovegood was observing the Owl Shed, occasionally looking at the top of the shed. Gary felt he was looking for some strange creature again.

"Mr. Lovegood," Gary called softly, "we've already fed the owl two pieces of pie."

Only then did he walk over and tease the owl.

"So cute..." Lovegood stroked the owl as if petting a cat, and the owl comfortably narrowed its eyes.

"Hic." The owl's body suddenly trembled, its beak slightly open, emitting a sound similar to a human hiccup.

Its eyes immediately widened, all its feathers puffed up, and its head rotated 270 degrees, scanning the four of them, as if trying to find the culprit.

"Hic." It trembled all over, then slumped down, resigned to its fate.

"Poor thing." Howard said sincerely, the owl's body trembling uncontrollably even when hidden under its feathers. "We can't let it hiccup for a whole month, can we?"

"...You could buy it," Gary suggested, "and you don't have a pet anyway."

"Then I'll come see Mr. Pringle tomorrow morning," Howard brought his plump face close to the owl. "Look how well your size matches mine. Remember not to run around, I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

The owl hid its head under its wing, otherwise the hiccups were too loud.

"Thank you, Mr. Lovegood." Seeing Howard communicating with the owl, Gary and James chatted with Mr. Lovegood nearby. "If it weren't for you, Howard would have suffered greatly."

"This is what I should do." Mr. Lovegood's voice was gentle, as if it had a calming magic. "It's getting late, we should go back to sleep, otherwise the Harassing Gnats will come out to cause trouble tomorrow."

"What's that?" James had never heard of such a thing before, his strong Gryffindor curiosity prompting him to ask.

Gary wanted to stop James but didn't make it in time, regretfully slapping his thigh. He knew Mr. Lovegood was about to start a lecture.

"Harassing Gnats, your eyes can't see them, they fly into people's ears and mess with your brain." Mr. Lovegood said earnestly.

James quickly reacted, "How could such a creature..." Before he could finish, he was dragged away by Gary.

"See you, Mr. Lovegood." Howard tidied up the apple pie and also said goodbye.

Mr. Lovegood watched the three of them descend the spiral staircase, his head bowed, deep in thought.

"Strange..." he mumbled, shook his head, and also left the Owl Shed.

...

The next morning, Howard went to find the caretaker, Mr. Pringle. After spending twenty Galleons, he finally brought back the hiccuping owl.

"I advise you to let it out to forage," Gary suggested, "otherwise its hiccups will keep both of us awake."

Howard was always obedient in this regard, and dutifully placed the owl, Julie, by the window. Julie let out a loud hiccup, then narrowed her eyes and flapped her wings, flying out.

Unfortunately, they couldn't find Snape to settle scores in the following days. Ravenclaw and Slytherin had no overlapping classes except for Flying Class and History of Magic, and coincidentally, both of these classes had already finished before Christmas.

Professor Flitwick instructed Lucy to count the number of people going home for Christmas. Gary and his three friends all signed the departure register. He and Al thought about taking the train, and only then remembered that the safety issues concerning the Hogwarts Express had not yet been reported. The two of them planned to write a detailed report and submit it to Professor Dumbledore after Christmas.

On the morning of the Christmas holiday, students boarded the Hogwarts Express after breakfast in the Great Hall. This train departed from Hogsmeade, and by the time it reached the Hogwarts platform, some adult Wizards were already on board.

Some people looked strange at first glance: some had their entire faces covered with scarves, only their eyes showing; others exuded a nauseating composite smell of mixed Potions, and many young Wizards dared not enter the compartments where they were.

Al and Gary exchanged glances, worried.

Their plan to find Snape on the train was also forced to be cancelled.

Fortunately, there were four of them, and they managed to occupy a compartment in the middle of the train. Howard was teaching Kona how to play Muggle poker, while Al and Gary discussed the division of labor for their paper by the window.

After determining the outline, the two decided that Gary would collect the arguments, and Al would be responsible for writing and polishing the paper.

As dusk fell, the Hogwarts Express finally arrived at King's Cross Station, and Wizards, carrying their luggage, scrambled to get off the train.

The Shafeek Couple were already waiting at the exit. Gary waved goodbye to his friends. Mr. Shafiq held Gary's hand with one hand and Mrs. Shafiq's hand with the other. With a spin, space twisted and tore before Gary, and with a "pop" sound, they left the station.

The next second, Gary stood on the carpet in his home in Godric's Hollow.

"Long time no see, Dad." Gary looked up at Mr. Shafiq.

Mr. Shafiq had flowing black hair, stood 6 feet 2 inches tall, and was a tall, strong man with a perpetual smile on his face, exuding a strong sense of security.
