Harry Potter: Return From Future

Chapter 65: Dinner in Great Hall

Harry and Hermione after spending their blissful moments together arrived in the great hall of Hogwarts for dinner. By the time, they reached in the great hall almost all of the students had already arrived and were enjoying their dinner.

Harry's eyes, as he stepped inside, wandered around the hall locating few people. Daphne and Tracey appeared to be almost isolated as they were eating their dinner on the Slytherin table. All the students, it seemed, were maintaining a distance of one hand from the duo.

Ron Weasley was busy shoving the food in his mouth and though the red haired idiot spotted Harry, he did not react. Most probably, he was hoping for Harry to come and apologise for the morning incident which Harry was definitely not going to do.

Harry also spotted Minerva McGonagall and the leather gloves she had worn on her right hand. A smile tugged at his lips as he contemplated Dumbledore's reaction about the breach of the contract. He had not actually expected of Minerva to go to this extent to placate Hermione.

And thus, he also spotted Dumbledore who had been leaning towards Severus Snape and was engaged in some conversation.

"Snape," Dumbledore scowled in an irritated tone. "I had warned you that whatever happens in your house remains inside it…"

"How did Harry Potter and Hermione Granger were able to learn about the situation of Daphne Greengrass?"

"Have your house turned into a house of fools… what were they thinking doing something like that on Hogwarts express?" Dumbledore was really irritated. "A lot of people could have seen all that…"

Snape's eyes flickered but he had no response at which Dumbledore's irritation only grew.

"No matter what, control your house immediately," Dumbledore said. "I do not want any more thing about Daphne Greengrass coming out."

"With the Granger's nature, she is not going to let it go easily," he added. "So, it would be better if your students control their actions for some time."

"Yes, headmaster," was the only thing Snape could reply in response.

[If you are confused, then this conversation was not heard by Harry. It is for the readers.]

Harry, on the other hand, spotted two empty stools and sat along with Hermione. And he was quite far away from Ron Weasley.

The red haired idiot scowled at this but then busied himself back in shoving the food back to his mouth.

Hermione and Harry mostly enjoyed their dinner in silence. Hermione kept herself busy lost in her own thoughts- about what measures could she take about the Daphne Greengrass? Her mind also wondered with the possibility that Daphne might not be the only student going through such a situation.

Harry had his eyes focused on Daphne. Although, he had made a deal of friendship with Daphne, he knew that it came with risk- not for him but for Daphne.

In all probability, Slytherins could plan and do something more worse as a revenge or maybe that Hermione's interference could force Dumbledore and Snape to suppress these matters for a while.

After all, nothing was more important for Dumbledore than to keep Harry unaware, uninvolved and ignorant of the wizarding world, its politics and of Harry's heritage.

Daphne could very well face another assault in her house and Harry could not simply sit and ignore things happening to her.

While he was mid way through his dinner, Daphne and Tracey after completing the dinner got up to leave the hall.

An invisible spell left Harry's finger and struck Daphne. It was a kind of tracking spell and would keep Harry updated about her situation. Although, he would not be making a move so soon unless things really go out hands. If things remained as they were, Harry would choose inaction.

Daphne and Tracey walked in the corridors of Hogwarts towards the Slytherin common room- the dungeon of the castle.

And no matter how hard Daphne tried to mask her anxiety, it was clearly palatable on her face.

"Daphne," Tracey said in a low tone. "Don't you think you should have asked for Harry Potter's help?"

Daphne understanding the concern of her best shook her head, "And what would I have said?"

"He did not even ask about the incident on the Hogwarts express," she continued. "I am not even sure if making friends with him was the correct option."

"Maybe from tomorrow he won't even care a little about me," she added in a worried tone.

Tracey nodded and hesitatingly, "But maybe… if he knew… he might have helped…"

"You saw," she said hopefully. "When Hermione Granger was insulted, how much angry did he become…"

Daphne nodded, "Yes…"

"But she has been with him for three years…" she mumbled. "I just hope that when the time comes… you know the actual crisis for me and my family, he would take up a stand for me and my family."

"I do not expect him to do anything in short term," she added.

By the time the conversation reached at this point, the duo had arrived at the gates of Slytherin common room.

Daphne took her breath and calmed her nerves, "Tracey… no matter happens, do not interfere."

"Even at worse, they have certain bottom line they could not cross," she added. "At least for now."

Tracey gave a stiff nod and Daphne mumbled the password and entered inside the Slytherin common room.
