Chapter 57: Beginning of Friendship
Harry's unexpectedly stubborn behaviour had caught Minerva off guard. She, again was caught in a tight spot as she could not really deny Harry's words. People like Draco Malfoy had indeed been given a lot of free runs without any consequences. She was not shameless enough to do so. But someone was shameless enough.
"Oh!" Mocked Snape. "What can be expect of a Potter... arrogance, conceit and false pride is all that you can show."
"Considering oneself above the rules... denying punishment from professors... just because you feel so. What can be expect from you?" Snape sneered. "The hero of the wizarding world."
Harry narrowed his eyes. He was about to give a nasty reply when Dumbledore made his presence known.
Dumbledore waved his hands, not a wandless magic but control over Hogwarts wards but enough to fool the students, and the massive table which had been cracked was all patched- it appeared as brand new as ever.
"Enough of this issue," Dumbledore said with an air of authority which had been targeted at both Snape and Harry. "Since, it has not caused any harm, the matter will end here."
"Harry," he said in a gentle voice. "Take control of your anger. Loosing your calm over minor issues is not a good thing."
Harry simply nodded.
"And, Mr. Malfoy," continued Dumbledore but he lacked the gentleness in his voice. "I would also urge you to refrain from making such comments about other students."
"Yes, headmaster," Draco replied in a stiff manner.
Dumbledore did not say any further and walked away and so did the professors.

Harry put up a smile on his face as he turned towards Daphne.
"Miss Greengrass," he said. "I am waiting for your answer."
Daphne had still not been able to make up her mind but at the moment she steeled her heart and extended her hand offering it as greeting.
Harry's grin widened as he took Daphne's hands and gave it a gentle squeeze as if reassuring her of something.
"A start of new chapter, Miss. Greengrass," he said. "Friendship between a Gryffindor and Slytherin."
"After all this is what headmaster Dumbledore wants," Harry added loudly. "Love and forgiveness is what teaches us."
Dumbledore who had just occupied his seat and had taken the first sip of tea almost choked hearing Harry's words.
'When did I asked to maintain friendship with a Slytherin?' He cursed inwardly but maintained a smiling face on the outside.
On the other hand, Daphne's eyes dulled a bit as she 'realised' that Harry Potter was doing it because Dumbledore had asked him to do so.
Meanwhile, a majority of the Slytherins had ugly expression on their faces. They had never expected for Daphne Greengrass to actually agree to that proposal.
Harry cast a glance in their direction and said in a loud voice for everyone to hear, "Miss. Greengrass, it seems to me that a lot of your fellow housemates are not very happy with this development."
He continued, "And it also cannot be ruled out that they might try to harm you or take revenge about this matter."
"Hence, I must make it clear," Harry added; his voice serious and firm.
"If anyone tries to harm you in any way- direct or indirect then they must be prepared to face the wrath of Harry Potter," he declared with a little extra emphasis on the word Potter.
Daphne's face brightened at these words and she spoke for the first time.
"Thank you, Mr. Potter," she said. "And since we are friends, you should call me Daphne."
"Daphne," Harry repeated with a gentle smile.
"You can also call me Harry," he added further.
Daphne gave a small nod.
After the declaration of his friendship with Daphne, Harry returned back toward the Gryffindor table under the astonished faces of his housemates. Though they were not as outlandish as Slytherin, Harry knew that a majority of students of his house would not appreciate his friendship with a Slytherin.
He was bound to be asked a lot of questions but it was the time for the classes. And transfiguration was the first one.

"Harry?" Ron almost screamed in the corridor as they were walking towards their class. "Why did you do that?"
"Do what, Ron?" Harry asked.
"Friendship with that snake," Ron screeched.
"Because I felt like doing it," Harry said bluntly.
"And you are probably a red haired lion?" He added further in an irritated tone.
"You..." Ron halted abruptly. "You are making fun of me because of that Slytherin."
With these words, Ron stormed off leaving Harry and Hermione.
Hermione gave a questioning look towards Harry but he merely shrugged his shoulder.
The transfiguration class as usual was with the Slytherins. Nothing worth mentioning happened in the class except that Ron remained in his own anger zone and at some distance from Harry and Hermione.
And Daphne Greengrass kept sneaking glances towards Harry and Draco who had been sitting behind her clenched his fist in anger whenever he noticed it.
After the class was over, it was a free period and while everyone quickly left the class Hermione stayed back as she had 'something' to talk to Minerva.
Harry despite knowing the outcome did not interfere with Hermione's plan and walked towards Daphne with the intention of spending the free period with her.
