Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Ranger Companion

Though the conflict stemmed from a misunderstanding, it was far from meaningless.

For Alaric, Alleria's actions during the skirmish gave him valuable insight into her abilities and the overall prowess of the high elf rangers.

As expected of the renowned high elven rangers.

It wasn't just Alleria's swift reaction—drawing her bow and aiming at a dragon in mere moments—that impressed him.

The fact that she casually detected Garona's stealth spoke volumes about her exceptional ranger skills.

Garona, after all, was a top-tier infiltrator. Even during their infiltration of the heavily guarded royal palace of Lordaeron, no one had managed to detect her.

Yet here, Alleria had seen through her in an instant.

Although Garona's slight carelessness contributed to this, it still underscored Alleria's keen perception and unparalleled tracking abilities, far exceeding those of any human.

As for Alleria's subordinates, while they might not match their commander's excellence, even possessing just a fraction of her skill would put them leagues above 99% of human archers.

This superiority explained why, in history, even small detachments of high elves greatly enhanced the Alliance's ranged combat capabilities during the fight against the orcs.

Meanwhile, Alleria, on the other side of the conflict, felt a palpable sense of danger emanating from the half-orc Garona.

Observing her closely, Alleria couldn't help but admit that apart from herself, none of the rangers present would be a match for this stealthy adversary.

The realization that Garona was merely following the mage named Sandriver further cemented the fact that this delegation was not to be underestimated.

Moreover, Garona's appearance indirectly lent credibility to the rumors about the orcs.

After the misunderstanding was cleared up, Alaric asked one of Terenas' emissaries to present the royal decree and Commander Lothar's letter to Alleria.

Upon verifying the authenticity of the seal, Alleria finally acknowledged their identities.

However, the female ranger did not leave immediately. Instead, she began questioning Alaric about the orcs.

She was curious.

Alaric, naturally, was more than happy to spend more time with her and began sharing everything he knew about the orcs.

Behind him, Garona couldn't help but pout in dissatisfaction.

"...In truth, they share many similarities with trolls, though their numbers are far greater," Alaric explained, using a comparison to the high elves' most familiar enemy to make the description of the orcs more vivid.

"They're slightly shorter than trolls and lack their regenerative abilities. However, they're much more robust. If trolls are hunters and infiltrators, orcs are warriors.

They're bloodthirsty, warlike, and incredibly strong. But the most terrifying thing about them is their numbers—they hail from another world with an entire planet as their reserve force."

"That does sound quite frightening," Alleria commented thoughtfully, her attention fully focused. "I can't imagine what would happen to Quel'Thalas if it faced an entire planet of trolls.

If they are as aggressive as you claim, they are indeed a significant threat to Quel'Thalas."

"Who wouldn't think so?" Alaric sighed. "That's why I'm here. We desperately hope Quel'Thalas will join the Alliance and stand with us against these otherworldly invaders…"

"That's impossible." Alleria interrupted him bluntly before he could finish.

"What… did you say?" Alaric asked in disbelief.

"That's impossible. The Silvermoon Council would never agree to such a request," Alleria repeated.

"The Silvermoon Council—those old, stubborn mages… Of course, I don't mean you specifically. But they won't agree to your request.

They've always believed that high elves have already done enough for humans. After all, the orcs come from the south and pose no direct threat to Quel'Thalas in the distant north.

So, they won't acknowledge any obligation for the high elves to engage in a war against the orcs—I know them too well."

From Alleria's words, Alaric could sense her long-standing dissatisfaction with the Silvermoon Council, the true rulers of Quel'Thalas.

"I see," Alaric nodded, then looked at Alleria. "In that case, Lady Alleria, why are you telling me this?"

While he appreciated her candor, Alaric couldn't help but find it odd that she was being so forthcoming.

"Don't get the wrong idea; I don't have any ulterior motives," Alleria replied hastily, her face flushing as she waved her hand dismissively.

"I just believe that if your intelligence is accurate, the orcs pose a far greater threat to the high elves than they appear to. I sincerely hope you succeed in your mission."

After saying this, she hesitated for a moment, biting her lip, before finally making a decision.

"In that case, I'll accompany you to Silvermoon City," she declared firmly. "Hopefully, my presence can help you persuade those stubborn old mages.

Trust me, they're even more obstinate than the most intransigent humans you can imagine."

"So their stubbornness grows with age?" Alaric joked, earning a glare from Alleria.

Laughing, he said, "Of course, I'd be delighted to have you join us, Lady Alleria. I'm sure you'll be an excellent guide and ally."

"Of course," Alleria said with a proud tilt of her head, brushing back her hair. "And drop the 'Lady.' Just call me Alleria."

Though he still found her behavior somewhat puzzling, Alaric welcomed her into the group.

As for her hapless subordinates, they resumed their patrols under the leadership of Alleria's deputy.

With such a pleasant and capable high elf companion, Alaric no longer confined himself to the carriage for the remainder of the journey.

Instead, he rode alongside Alleria, who was mounted on her hawkstrider, using the time to learn about high elven customs and language.

Alaric found great joy in conversing with Alleria, asking her countless questions about the high elves.

Alleria, in turn, was happy to introduce her people to him. She even taught him some Thalassian, though his efforts only scratched the surface of the language.

However, as their relationship grew closer, Alaric's curiosity about her deepened.

High elves were known for their pride and disdain for short-lived races like humans.

Even though rangers like Alleria were less arrogant than the high elven mages, her noble lineage made her unlikely to casually befriend a human.

Through their conversations, Alaric also learned about the Windrunner family's long-standing disdain for mages, stemming from the tensions between rangers and the mage rulers of Quel'Thalas.

Alleria's dislike of mages seemed almost ingrained.

So why, Alaric wondered, had they become so close so quickly?

Could it be that all his stat points had gone into charisma at birth?
