Chapter 43: Chapter 43: After The Stone
After he finished speaking he located his wand and cast a Patronus, bursting from the end of his wand was a doe. "Aww, Sev you never told me we matched." Lily's slightly drunken voice said from the corner of the room.
Professor Snape held up one finger before whispering into the doe's ear, the doe then ran through the wall to locate the Headmaster. Professor Snape then turned towards Lily before saying, "It wouldn't have mattered anyway since I blew my only chance by calling you that awful word."
"I have already forgiven you for that Sev. I am just glad Oskar convinced you away from the dark path you were walking." Lily replied, looking as if she remembered fond memories.
"Yes, I am also glad." Professor Snape said before turning towards Grace, Daphne and I and continuing to speak, "I thank you for bringing this to my attention, I have told the Headmaster so it will be taken care of."
"Professor, Mom, are you two going to be dating? Does that mean I will get less homework?" Grace asked cheekily, trying to take advantage of their semi-drunken state to tease the two adults. "No, it does not mean you get less homework, and your mother has yet to answer me on the other point," Snape said while ushering us out of the room. However, before he could do so fully, the headmaster's reply came.
"I am regretful to say I am on my way to the ministry at this current moment as Cornelius has summoned me to aid him. I will be unable to return until later or unless someone manages to remove the stone from my safeguards." Dumbledore's voice reverberated through the room as the news of his leaving brought dread to Grace and Daphne.
The three of us headed back to the entrance hall to meet up with Harry, Ron and Hermione. "What are we going to do? The thief clearly intends to steal it today and sent Dumbledore away with a fake summons." Grace asked the 5 of us while looking mildly panicked.
"We will just have to stop them ourselves then," Harry answered receiving nods from both Ron and Hermione. "We will need to make our way through the safeguards put in place by the teachers and stop whoever it is trying to steal it."
Grace could think of many reasons why not to do what her brother just suggested but the outcome would be grim since the dark wizard she knew to be Voldemort would get the Philosopher's Stone. "We don't really have a choice since the teachers are taking a wait-and-see policy. What do you two think?" she asked while turning to me and Daphne.
"Well, I don't mind going along with you since you may need us if it is the same dark wizard that attacked the three of you and if we go you will have better odd's of stopping them." Daphne said while answering for me as if she was already my wife. "I have nothing better to do so I can tag along." I added in a bored voice.
We quickly left the entrance hall heading for the 3rd floor corridor while trying to avoid any snooping eyes or teachers, we ducked into a lot of shortcuts since we kept coming across Filch's cat who seemed to have sensed that wrong doing will be happening in the area. After slipping past the overly smart feline, we made our way to the forbidden room.
"So we need to use music to get past Fluffy?" Harry asked while thinking of ways to play music to put the dog to sleep. "That's right does anyone know how to play a music instrument?" Hermione answered while regretting that she hadn't learnt how to animate music instruments to play themselves.
"Daphne and I know how to play the piano." I said receiving shocked looks in return making me turn and look at Daphne before speaking again, "I guess you lie about that being a normal downtime activity."
"Well that is all well and good but unless you have a piano in your pockets that will not help." Weasley said while trying to stop his jealousy enter his voice, "Actually summoning a piano shouldn't be a problem" Daphne replied while flicking her wand into her hand. Gathering her thoughts she waved her wand and aimed it at an empty piece of floor.
The looks on the others face were priceless when the saw the piano appear but their laughter followed as they saw a small piano on the floor. "That was a good attempt Daph dear but maybe visualise the size at the same time." I chuckled while enlarging the piano into a playable size.
Harry pushed the door open to find Fluffy already asleep as a harp charmed to play sat in the corner, the group followed behind him filling into the room seeing for the first time the true size of the dog. "It's quite cute while it is sleeping isn't it?" I said while flicking my wand towards the harp to recast the animation charm that it was under.
After passing the first hurdle by pushing the large paw that covered the trap door to the side, we all looked down into the dark hole. "Well people I shall jump first if that is all good. Just to make sure it is safe." I spoke before casually stepping into the hole before anyone could stop me.
"Erik!?!" Daphne shouted while trying to catch my falling form, Grace similarly panicked while the other three were to stunned to react. My form fell into the darkness before they received my reply, "It is a soft landing, it seems to be a plant down here." I said while the Devil Snare wrapped around me.
Before I could tell them which plant I heard two thuds as Daphne and Grace landed near me, followed by the other three shortly afterwards. "Well not to be a spoil sport but I didn't exactly say it was safe. Especially since we are sitting on a Devil Snare."
