Chapter 9: 9
I arrived at Slant Alley at eight in the morning, as agreed. I put on my Imperial cloak, assuming that my discussion with the lord would clearly not be about exchanging pleasantries.
Pov View from the side
People passed by, turning and glancing at the platinum-blond boy who looked to be about 13 or 15 years old. He was tall and slender. He was dressed in a blue robe with a high collar, his belt was decorated with blue sapphires, and all of this was fastened with a silver chain. The boy's appearance suggested that he was clearly not an ordinary visitor.
A man of about thirty-five approached the teenager. His clothes spoke of the strictness and seriousness of his master. He sat down opposite the young man. Without consulting each other, they both cast a spell of silence and illusion around themselves. There was no need for others to know what they were talking about.
"Mr Potter, unfortunately, we only know you through my daughter. My name is Edward Green Grass. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me.
From the outside, it might seem that a serious man was humiliating himself by behaving this way in front of a teenager. But, knowing what the conversation would be about and under what conditions, Lord Green-Grass was simply being polite to his benefactor.
"Don't mention it, Lord Green Grass, it's no trouble to help you.
"Just call me Edward.
"Then you can call me Aldwin.
"I've always wondered why you have such an unusual name. Would you share the meaning of your name? Mine, for example, means 'spear bearer'.
"Hmm, that's an unusual request, but I'll tell you. Aldwin means 'master, devourer, destroyer'. That's the whole meaning of my name.
"A powerful name," said Edward with a smile.
After chatting for a while about nothing in particular, observing the etiquette of negotiations, Edward got down to business.
"I thought Miss Potter would be present for such an important decision.
"I handle all of our family's affairs. My mother, to put it mildly, is not very knowledgeable about financial matters. I have studied economics since childhood. So I assure you, I can manage money.
Twenty-five million galleons is a considerable sum that could help my family get out of this predicament. What do you want in return? My daughter? Which one? Perhaps a seat on the Council of Mages? Or... my family's vassalage?" Edward grimaced at the last suggestion.
"I don't want anything. I'm just interested in helping you. By the way, why are you so against becoming vassals?
Edward thought for a moment. It was clear from his expression that he was deciding whether to tell Alduin about his family.
"My family are descendants of magical knights. Even in Merlin's time, my ancestor served the King. Our family serves only true rulers and leaders. Families of magicians have their own traditions. We cannot become vassals to businessmen and merchants, which is what the Malfoy family is. Are you really willing to just give away that amount of money?
"Yes, I am ready to give it right now." Alduin smiled and took a purse with Runes engraved on it from his wide sleeve. "There is the required amount. The purse has an expansion spell on it.
"Thank you. I won't ask what your motives are. I'm just grateful that you helped.
After sitting and chatting about nothing in particular for another ten minutes, the man and the teenager went their separate ways.
End of Pov Side view
I definitely like Edward. But that won't stop me from taking everything away from them if Daphne doesn't live up to my expectations. Why should I judge the whole family based on her? She approached me, even if it was at her father's request.
Lily and I decided to just buy a plot of land near Hogsmeade and build a house ourselves. We went to a magical construction company and gave them the blueprints for the house. They promised to finish building it in about a year.
The rest of the holidays passed... Well, Lily still hadn't completely come to terms with our relationship, but she no longer blamed herself for being with me. In the end, she started to show some persistence herself. This made my ego, which was truly dragon-sized, grow quite rumbling, while Lily lay on my chest and listened, amazed by the fact that dragons could rumble.
I received several gifts for Christmas. The first was from Lily. When I unwrapped it, I found a two-way mirror. I kept one for myself and gave the other to her.
The second gift was from the headmaster. It contained an invisibility cloak, which I burned without regret. Lily watched, clapping her mouth shut, until I told her that I could make one myself, and even better.
The third present was... From Weasley? A sweater and a letter that was soaked in a love potion. The letter congratulated me and said that the sweater had been knitted by Ginny Weasley. Examining the sweater, I found a hidden needle, again coated with love potion. It was supposed to prick me, administering the potion when I put the sweater on. Without asking any questions, I burned it.
The fourth gift was from Daphne, which made me happy. It was a book about spells. Inside the book was a letter thanking me for helping her family.
The fifth gift was unsigned, but I could smell one of the blondes. The gift was a T-shirt enchanted to strangle whoever wore it. It was very sweet, and I remembered the gesture. I burned it.
All good things must come to an end. The holidays were over.
Arriving at the platform and, under the illusion of saying a passionate goodbye to Lily, promising to call her more often on the mirror, I sat down in a free compartment. Taking out the book Daphne had given me, I began to read. The book was quite interesting, devoted to some of the peculiarities of the magic of this world.
There was a knock on my compartment door, and a second later Daphne opened it. Looking at each other, she asked me an obvious question without words, to which I nodded, allowing her to come with me. Daphne looked at the book and smiled slightly.
A couple of minutes later, a red-haired creature flew in without knocking, responding to the name "Ron."
"Alduin, hello. What's Slytherin doing here?! She's..." Wabbajack didn't let him finish. Then the guy grew a rooster's beak and tail. Another wave, and the bird was thrown out of our compartment, closing the doors behind him.
Daphne just nodded to herself, took a book out of her bag and started reading.
A minute later, again without knocking, the doors opened. Three people entered our compartment. So, Draco with his henchmen, Bim and Bom. Draco looked first at Daphne, then contemptuously at me.
"Potter, don't expect my father to..." Another wave of Wabajack made the three guys hug each other. One wave, and they were kissing. One wave, and they wouldn't be able to tear themselves apart until they arrived at Hogwarts.
I finally decided to lock the doors with a spell. Sitting down in my seat, I continued reading.
"Now I'll be ruined at the faculty. The Malfoys are very influential. They won't do anything to the family now, but they can make life difficult for the children.
I looked at the girl, trying to decide what to do.
"Tell me, why did you come and sit next to me, knowing it would cause you more trouble? Why did you make the situation worse instead of telling the guys from your faculty that you seduced me for money? That would have earned you a few brownie points.
"I wanted to go with you," she said emotionlessly.
"I told you you didn't have to be with me. I told your father the same thing. I just helped you out.
"I don't have to, but I can if I want to. Do you mind?
"No, I don't mind. As for the faculty, I'll take care of it." I said, smiling to myself. Daphne is living up to my expectations so far.
The rest of the journey passed in peaceful silence. There were a couple more knocks at the door, so I cast a silence spell to ignore the persistent people.
Upon arrival at the school, there was a festive banquet, where the headmaster welcomed the returning students. Daphne, by the way, was sitting at my table, making the snakes grind their teeth and look at her in bewilderment.
Catching Dumbledore's eye, I nodded at Daphne, then at my faculty's crest. The headmaster just smiled and nodded.
After the feast, I took the girl by the hand and led her to an empty classroom.
"From now on, you will study in my faculty. I'll give you clothes tomorrow. It's not right for a wizard to walk around in such rags as these school robes. Now I'll cast a spell of invisibility on us and take you to Dova's room. No one must know where it is. You'll get the invisibility charm tomorrow as well.
"But you can't transfer faculties, and invisibility artefacts are very expensive.
"There's never been a new faculty with only one student before. There's a first time for everything. I'll make the artefact myself, it won't cost anything.
I cast an invisibility spell on us and led Daphne to the eighth floor. Near the door, I wished for another bedroom to be added. I opened the door and let the girl into the room.
"Just wish for Dova's room to appear, and it will. There's a swimming pool, and behind that door is your room. Wish for your things to be here, and they will appear.
"It's a magic room!" the girl said enthusiastically, smiling and rejoicing. She ran to her bedroom, and a couple of minutes later ran past me into the pool. Another enthusiastic cry, then silence.
I had to ask for the room to be rearranged again. Now there are two separate bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom.
Daphne came out of the pool about forty minutes later. She was wearing a white robe and slippers with rabbit ears. Quite cute. She went to the bookcase, picked out the book she wanted, and sat down in the armchair next to the fireplace.
"What's a rescue room?" I asked.
"You live here and you don't know what it is?" - The girl said again, emotionless. Apparently, she had managed to calm down.
"I just wasn't interested.
"This room is a Hogwarts legend. No one but us knows exactly where it is. It takes on the form of whatever you want to see in it.
The conversation continued as usual. I learned about Daphne's father, her mother, and her sister, who would be going to Hogwarts next year. I would have to talk to the headmaster about the new student.
We chatted for quite a while until I noticed that the girl had started to nod off and eventually fell asleep. I picked her up and carried her to her bedroom. I laid her on the bed and left.
The following days were rather boring, except for the headmaster's announcement that Daphne was being transferred from Slytherin to Dumbledore's house. Many began to protest, and some girls asked to be transferred to my house as well.
Draco could only glare at me and make plans to take cruel revenge on me for humiliating him and ruining his father's plans.
Daphne received the Black Wing from me, which she happily put on. Indeed, this costume looks much better than a school robe, and there's no need to even mention its comfort and magical protection.
I made her an amulet in the shape of a dragon's eye. It was made of gold, with a pattern around the edges and a sphere resembling an eye in the centre. Now Daphne can walk around school without attracting attention or being detected by artefacts or search spells. And what was her face like when she received the amulet and heard about its properties...
Towards spring, I was sitting in my room, talking to Lily in the mirror, when I suddenly heard crying. What struck me was that it was the Newborn Dragon crying. I shoved the mirror into my pocket and rushed out, following the sound of the crying baby, forgetting that I was only wearing shorts. I ran out of the room, down the stairs, and out of the castle. The crying led me to the forester's hut. I kicked the door open and saw...
The baby dragon looked fearfully at the giant, who was holding him in his hands, which were covered with oven mitts. In front of the giant stood a cauldron of hot water. What was he going to do? Cook and eat him? In desperation, the baby dragon let out a small flame, singeing the murderer's beard.
I lose control and transform halfway into a dragon. Horns crown my head, my teeth become sharp, and scales appear on my body.
Sharp claws pierce the giant's eyes, forcing him to let go of the dragon. I catch the little one and place him on my shoulder. The cub sensed my aura and the will of the Supreme Leader and clung to me with joy.
I jump on the giant. Even in this form, I am taller than him, but this beast is still bigger than me. I hold his head with my hands and brace my feet against his chest. I open my mouth and breathe fire into his face. He thrashes about, trying to throw me off, screaming and hitting me with his hands, but to no avail. My sharp claws dug into his skull, scales and reinforced body, ignoring his blows. My flames burned the forester alive. He falls, and I hear screams behind the door.
I run out and see Draco running into the castle. Kill him or erase his memory? Killing him probably isn't worth it, the forester is one thing, but the son of an aristocrat is another. Even though I don't care about them, I'll have to kill the whole family.
"Vuld-Na-Kest!" A cry of swift movement, and I knock Draco off his feet. I turn him to face me. In his eyes, I see fear, despair and pleading.
Only now do I notice that Wabajek has been left in the room. Good thing I always wear the ring.
"Oblivion!" - I erase the last hour of the blond's life from his memory. He closes his eyes and falls asleep.
I leave him lying there and go to my room, casting invisibility on myself as I go. I tidy up my body, and the little one rubs against my neck, sensing the Dragon and, even more, the Master.
